Man, how rewarding must this be for the actors themselves? Pushing the limits to act a character out, and making the best out of the journey must be a fulfilling experience for them. And, cuz of this, they’re able to give the audience one of the greatest movie sequels in aviation out there.👏👏
Imagine the experience these newer actors must’ve had, doing this. Getting casted in a Tom Cruise movie? You know it’ll be good. Top Gun 2, with Tom the one behind it? It’ll be epic! No matter what movies they are in going forward, they can confidently look around the room at an award show and know that NOBODY ELSE there got to do a live action fighter jet movie with NO green screen! Must be a damn cool feeling 👏
I mean, it’s not only pushing them as actors but pushing they’re very existence and exceeding they’re own perceived limitations of themselves. Yeah I thought this was cgi as I would have never thought this would have even been possible. Simply craziness
Actually many reports say hes a self centered egomaniac to the point of throwing a literal temper tantrum and having to stand on a milk crate because a costar was taller than him. He also is taking a lot of credit for stuff in this movie that was actually forced on him by the Navy. No, am not a fan of his BUT they did do a damn good job with this remake/sequel
Finally got to watch this today, and I laughed, I cried, I laughed while I cried, and I left the movie theater feeling so happy. The amount of work, and dedication that went into film is unlike any other film out there. Absolutely incredible.
I dont think there will be any other movie like this one in my life time, and im only 28 years old. Imagine having watched the original Top Gun in the theaters and also this one, that must have been an epic nostalgia trip. I would for sure wait 34 years for another movie like this. On my top 10 movie list for sure.
Best sequel ever made, it’s a shame Tony Scott isn’t alive to be a part of it. Tom Cruise is probably the best actor in history, the fact that he insists on keeping things as real as possible with the flying (and his stunts in all of his movies) is a testament to his love for aviation and bringing the experience to millions of people. EXCELLENT JOB!!! 👏
Very interesting: there are just too many (0) Asian/Oriental characters in the movie????It seems like Asian sailors do not exist the U.S. Navy or in Top Gun movies???. The only good Filipino U.S. sailor is a cook or steward???
not really, this film is like the epitome of tom cruises action movie career. Lot of people forget he is good in many other genres too like thrillers, romcoms, drama, sci-fi you name it. He's the most versatile actor ever
Let me just say that this is the best movie I've ever seen. I grew up with my parents showing me and my brother the first Top Gun and I remember loving it. We saw this one last week and im introducing it to my friends next week and I can't wait to see it again․
@Malika Krag Lund-Nielsen Would you say it's your favorite movie ever? It's my new favorite movie ever! I've watched it already 9 times and counting! 🤣🤣
My friend i had the same feeling several times throughout the film, I was watching it with my younger brother (26yrs) am (33) and he didiny have that emotional connection, as you say a old friend ay 😎
@@magooch3288 It's a pity, I'm 30 and my brother 26, we literally grew up together watching the first Top Gun many times, we still remember a lot of dialogues 😄
@@mrbonesss26 nothing like the feeling of remembering like that, my brother was more into ghost busters, speaking of, the follow on from that great masterpiece this year was fantastic 👍
@@mrbonesss26 I know!!! ...I'll come across TopGun somewhere on the cable tv or a movie channel and I will speak the lines with the actors!!....lolol.....too funny.....✈️
My eyes welled up immediately after the music started. No idea where all that came from but I was instantly transported back in time to the story, the loss of Goose, and the soundtrack...wow! The soundtrack from the original is STILL amazing and while we all know sequels are 99% fails, THIS was ridiculously epic in every respect, and exceeded the first. A seemingly unimaginable feat, but they did it. And Goose's son? The dude's a dead ringer. WTH!!! The ENTIRE movie I'm thinking, "He has GOT to be related! No way he is not. No way." He's not. 😆😆😆
Wasn't epic in one respect - the soundtrack was utterly shite. To the point the last track made me want to throw things at the screen. Nobody is going to be buying the album for TGM!
Good point! Never gave it a thought til you mentioned it. Now that you have, I'm thinking that, besides the last song, what's to remember? And even now I can't remember that either. Soundtrack blows.
I didn't realize that I hadn't gotten over Goose's death until I saw this movie and I started crying from the get go. I grew up with the original Top Gun and it was like I got...closure.
The only movies I’ve seen twice in theaters this past decade was “Star Wars: Rogue One” and “Endgame”. I’ve seen “Top Gun: Maverick” 4 times now. I absolutely love every second of this film.
There is something about Top Gun movies that cannot be fathomed in words. It is pure emotion. I am not a pilot and everytime I want to be one i watch one of these and everytime i get goosebumps.
Just saw this at the movies, and it exceeds expectations by far. I'm sure I'll be watching it several more times! One of the rare movies nowadays that's not all CGI and special effects, real planes, really flying, real training, just awesome! Tom Cruise is a legend for all he does with these movie roles, for himself and everyone he works with
Despite assertions about practical filming in Top Gun: Maverick, CGI played a significant role in the dogfight scenes. Jets were initially recorded as references but were later replaced with CGI in many instances. Several aircraft featured in the final film, including the Dark Star, F14, F18s, and enemy SU57s, were entirely computer-generated. This fact was not explicitly disclosed in official documentaries or bonus materials. While many cockpit scenes were authentically filmed, CGI was used for various shot modifications, covering interiors, exteriors, canopy perspectives, and the overall environment. Filmmakers and studios downplayed the use of CGI, possibly due to contractual obligations, creating a disparity between the actual production methods and public perception. The film's nomination for an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category attests to the extensive use of thousands of VFX shots throughout the movie.
This movie is so awesome. It totally felt like a 90s movie. It's possibly even better than the first movie! (I watched it right after rewatching Top Gun 1.) I honestly thought making such an awesome movie became a lost art. It has great actors, great story, great directing and most important - it's not ripped to shreds by political bs. It's just about the movie experience (I so missed that).
Hearing the grunting and stick sounds when Maverick made his 2:15 run was I think what made me feel what pilots go through. So many epic scenes. Tom Cruise is a gift to the world.
This is why its such an amazing film, all the actors put 110% if not more into their roles and it shows. Tom Cruise really does put the effort into everything he makes and that's why he's one of the best actors ever, not a fan of his personal life but he really does entertain on a next level. 💯
Yesss finally someone who gets it. He's an amazing actor, il always watch his movies. May not love how he lives his life but damn his movies are always good
I've seen it twice in three weeks. Got to see it with my friend that retired as a Master Chief after 29 years. He was on the Kitty Hawk, the America, the Lincoln. When the Super Hornet came on board, he introduced it to his squadron. He really liked the movie. Lots of Hollywood in it, but he get it. He loved the F14. He said it was BIG, heavy and tough. Once they switched from the Pratt and Whitney engines to the GE's it transformed the plane. In his last year he was able to get a ride in the Mojave desert in an F/A 18. He said that was incredible. I'll be seeing the movie again before it leaves the theater.
This movie left me with a tight stomach the entire time from how intense a lot of the scenes were, knowing these actors actually trained and flew made it that much more badass.
No cgi. All real life stunts. Awsome work. Unbelievable dedication. Huge respect to all the actors. Thank you for delivering such an amazing experience.

There's a reason this film was nominated for an Oscar for Best VFX. This film has thousands of VFX shots in it.
the grunts under heavy Gs really make it, something you can't act, honestly this movie is such a breath of fresh air with all these overly done CG nightmares, having something that has so many practical effects and real equipment is just so cool and makes it feel so much more real.

I'd be lying if I didn't say that I teared up at the theatre watching this movie. Brought back some many childhood memories of watching the original Top Gun. Top Gun Maverick is a must watch!
Top Gun: Maverick is the kind of movie that belongs on the biggest screen. I saw it 7 times and can't get enough of this amazing movie thanks to Tom Cruise and his crew who gave us the most exciting blockbuster of the summer.
“A love letter to aviation…” indeed! I cannot count how many times I watched Top Gun in 1986-87. Just a teenager with lots of ambition! Looks like Tom pushed himself and everyone on that set! Awesome. Can’t wait to delve into 2.0! Hush!
I gotta admit - when the sequel was announced, I was like "NOOOO! Don't ruin the best movie of my youth!" This surpassed all expectations, across the board. Placing them in the jets, even as back-seaters looking at a bank of cameras, those G-forces can't be faked, and the placement gave some phenomenal shots of close "welded wing" formation flying. Bravo Tom, Bravo Jerry!!
Tom cruise looks like he can go 15 years more of acting. He's phenomenal & takes each of his movie roles serious. This movie made me sad & happy at the same time. It was so good. After watching this I went straight to watching the 1st top gun again to get the leveled experience
There is no member of the entire film crew that doesn't deserve appreication. The actors are one small but visible part in a giant machine involving thousands of people that make a movie.
I have not seen a movie this exciting since Ford vs Ferrari (which I was pleasantly surprised at). Top Gun: Maverick makes me feel the same way I felt when I saw the original. You just cannot beat that feeling of patriotism, pride and respect for what these pilots do in the service of our country.
Amen!!! These pilots and crew that do their jobs every day and night !!! Especially landing on a moving aircraft carrier and at night !! Heroes!!! Blows me away !!!
I met Tom Cruise about 10 years ago, by chance at Royal Windsor Horse Show. What a gentleman! He was friendly, chatty, liked my horse and wished me luck
@@amandanixon7819 my lovely (and sadly departed) father had no idea who he was. We were standing (with horse) awaiting my class, and Tom Cruise wandered up to watch (as we were) the carriage driving while we waited. Pa said something like “morning”, I was too preoccupied with my horse to notice who it was, and when I did they were calling each other “mate”. He was so easy to talk to, very relaxed. I assume some form of security was around, but we didn’t see any, nor was he bothered by anyone. It was early in the morning, but he seemed able to wander about without being recognised. He was there to watch the carriage driving which can be pretty dangerous and spectacular. Maybe he’ll include that in a Mission Impossible film 🤣
This is the best what I have ever seen. Top Gun 1 was good, but the 2 movie is never before and never again. No computer, all real. The best of the best, we make you better. Love it much. My respect
The movie is absolutely spectacular. It exceeded everything I hoped for by miles! The cinematography is absolutely unique, the story is fantastic and the follow on from the first film does it justice! I would go as far to say that it's the best film I've ever seen. Tom Cruise has absolutely blown the roof of the movie industry with this one.
Kudos to Tom Cruise and company who delivered TOP-GUN 2 thrills and chills designed for the big screen! You can feel the authenticity....IMPRESSIVE how the actors trained and prepared for their roles....Script is smooth and tight. Superb entertainment.
Tom had to have a blast making this film. Tom is graduated to a father figure for the young people who he helped train in this film. It's become his life. I'm so impressed with his growth as a actor but more importantly a man.
Saw this movie about 6 times...this isn't a movie, it's something else I can't describe...I'm an amateur pilot myself, but what Tom Cruise delivers is way beyond superhuman. 🚀
Tom, your passion for this project shows. I saw it today and I am blown away. This was possibly the best movie I’ve ever seen. It absolutely deserves an OSCAR for being filmed “live”. It was amazing and going to see it again!!!!!
This is one movie that I would pay to go see "The making of Maverick". To watch all the deleted scenes, the behind the scenes, the blunders, the scary parts, the different takes....I think we would all go watch it!
This is an exceptional movie, and it makes the original Top Gun look almost like a cartoon. This film has much more depth, and the way Maverick's character has been written is exceptional: he is still dancing out there right at the edge of what is acceptable, but he has matured emotionally -- as in the way he handles Rooster's resentment about Maverick pulling his papers to the Academy. The sense of life being much further along, of flowing away somehow, is tangible in the early bar scene with Penny, especially after he is thrown out. The scene with Iceman is very well written and exceptionally acted. The depth there is great, and Cruise deserves an Oscar nod. I have seen this film five times, and I plan to see it again tomorrow.
"I thought for sure one of them would tap out. Nobody tapped out. I lost a bet." Damn, my respect for these actors was already pretty high for what they achieved in such a short time but the fact that he said that really solidified how insanely perseverant they were.
The best movie I've ever seen... And to me the best movie ever made ! With this one Tom Cruise proved to everyone he's Unique. Noone, absolutely Noone, today is able to do or replicate that! Simply astonishing, jaw dropping performance. The guy does impossible things for real! 🙌
Aviation is my life and my career. Waiting for this to be strictly in theaters was absolutely the right call. I've been waiting a long long time for ANY action movie like this, let alone one featuring aviation.
I cried because it was so touching to my heart. Some scenes remind me of all the top gun memories. I feel extraordinary when listening to the background music.
Thanks Tom for bring us this, keeping the flame of good movies alive. We have so few things in life to bring joy nowdays, that every little piece of joy push our life away from death, depression and disbelieve. Thank you. And thanks Val for be in there too, holly crist, thanks;
What a surprise this movie is. I went with my dad (and mom) for father's day expecting a decent sequel. What I got was way beyond that, what a fantastic movie that got me emotional in all the right places, this is a rare movie that needs to be seen on the big screen and I hope to do that again!
Best movie I've ever seen in theaters. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Just a fantastic film from start to finish, no politics, no agendas, not so much as a hint of *"THE MESSAGE"...* just a group of remarkable and talented people working hard and going above and beyond what was needed to give longtime fans and movie-goers a sequel that they would enjoy.
They had the support of the navy, this movie benefitted the navy as much as it did the film crew. I'm sure they got access to a lot of amazing people and places.
My son and I were waiting so long to watch this in theaters, when it finally came out, this weight off my shoulders lifted, as the excitement in my heart went through the roof. My son who was 6 at the time thought this was the coolest movie as I explained to him most of the scenes were the real deal. I never served in the military but have always wished that I was. I'm a huge follower of everything military, and firearms and military aircraft. I can only hope my son can do what I always wanted to do, and that's to walk into a bar and say "yeah, I'm a fighter pilot protecting this great country of ours. Great job Tom cruise, you truly are an inspiration to so many.

Ever since I bought it on Prime 2 days ago I've watched it about 5 times and its just so great and real I can't stop its like an addiction! By far the best film ever made.
If it's still playing in theatres where you come from, please try watching it that way. It's immeasurably more impressive. And all the other humans next to you gasping or awwing at all the right places
I was absolutely blown away by how incredible this was. I put off watching for a good while, and my god, man. Absolutely jaw dropping. This is what happens when everyone isn't in a green room not even acting with other people. Can't say enough about it, truly. Best action movie in the last decade. This and Mad Max are absolutely what films should be all about.
Thank you everybody who worked on this master peace. Not just the best aviation movie but an absolutely great film itself. I rarely feel that after watching a movie I want to watch it again. But with Maverick. 1 watch isn't enough.
Best movie produced in a LONG time. Knowing it is all raw footage just adds to the excitement. Can't wait to see the awards that this thing pulls down.
I was not even born when the first Maverick came out. I loved the first one later on, and then this one just brought back all the memories from the 90s. Oh how much I loved this one. It's a feel good movie. Loved it.
Seen top gun last night. Wouldn't mind seeing it again. They let me in for free when I told them I was retired Navy. Lol. Seen the first one just as I joined the fleet in Coronado. The continuation 35 years later was worth the wait.
Been a long, long time since I cared so much about a movie, _after_ i have seen it. Been 3 weeks, and still watching videos about it. This will be the movie that makes me finally get a 4k TV. Ironically, after I built my first surround sound 5.1 system, first movie I played? Popped in Top Gun, and cranked up the intro. When the F-14s go AB and the catapult launched, and the music switched from Faltermyers theme to Danger Zone....... goose bumps.
This far exceeded my expectations! The small references to the first movie made me smile throughout the movie. The preparation in this must have been crazy!! I usually watch a film once and will watch again if in the mood. This film has had me wanting to watch over and over! Great job!
Nothing compares watching this for the first time. I loved it especially the flight scenes! Also can we appreciate that there is no cgi on these flight scenes bcoz those are badass! Kudos to Tom Cruise and the rest of the cast & crew and especially the best fighter pilots in the world they have recruited to this film ❤️
@@savonlofton They weren't even allowed to touch the controls, much less fly the damn thing. I highly doubt the military would do risky stunts in a nearly $70 million jet when they're already on the hook for 2/3 the cost of it being flown.... yeah... it's so expensive that the film studio couldn't afford to ACTUALLY fly these things, they had to rely on the military to pay for most of it.
There's something about this film, I watch it nearly every night. I've tuned off from cinema in these past few years, but this is so special to me, I think it's about Letting go. ❤️

ME TOO! Took me back to better days.

(I watched it right after rewatching Top Gun 1.)
I honestly thought making such an awesome movie became a lost art.
It has great actors, great story, great directing and most important - it's not ripped to shreds by political bs. It's just about the movie experience (I so missed that).

This is why its such an amazing film, all the actors put 110% if not more into their roles and it shows. Tom Cruise really does put the effort into everything he makes and that's why he's one of the best actors ever, not a fan of his personal life but he really does entertain on a next level. 💯

Don't ruin the best movie of my youth!"
This surpassed all expectations, across the board.
