This looks and more importantly, sounds like another winning Korg synth. I have the wavestate and the modwave - and whilst they're Raspberry Pi boxes - they're extremely good Raspberry Pi boxes. I like them - because: They sound good. They're light. They're compact - 3 octaves is good. Easy to carry, transport and take on tour The keybed is good enough - and I use them with a Korg 88 note keyboard live. The real-time control is essential for me. ( knobs, buttons and sliders ) They both have 4 gigs of memory - so all of the sounds are in the hardware - I don't have to rely on the VSTi's live I had been looking at getting a minilogue XD - however - this might be a better fit for analogue style sounds live. I can see the benefit of having a Korg Super Synth - with 76 / 88 keys And having this, the wavestate, modwave and op6 in the same unit.
From someone using Korg synths and sequencers since the 80s: - Make this a desktop module with 4-Part Multitimbrality. Effects+Dynamics+EQ per part - 3 assignable sets of stereo outs - assignable macro knobs to control key elements of all 4 parts from front panel for live performance - Class compliant multichannel audio over USB for easy multitracking in your DAW
The KingKorg Neo is an almost identical copy of the KingKorg (just compare the Parameters Guides), more expensive with two important "minuses": the overall Tube effect (a rare specificity of the KingKorg which had the advantage to add warmth to the sound) no longer exists in the NEO and of course this very small keyboard.
The concept and formfactor I really like (KingKorg owner) and the KK has great out of the box presets. MiniMoog and some spooky pads as phased strings and vocoder 😎 The different filters are classy as are the built in fx. The price is the toughest choice though a fantastic maschine 😀 As always Luke is a demo legend!
I do not hate the new form factor: looks like the raspberry pi trio base platform, that's fine... in fact it's a good thing. HOWEVER what I was hoping for kingkorg mkII was an aftertouch (if not poly) keybed, electribe sequencer, AND Radias like multitimbrality! This kkNeo and microkorg 2 release seems like a parts bin rehash. I sincerely hope Korg is not going the Modal way. I hope it doesn't. The Grandstage X looks and sounds gorgreous, and the raspberry pi trio MODULES are what I've been waiting for for 2 years. I'm just a bit puzzled with this one - a budget-tier version of the original? I still love kk btw (and if anyone wonders if tubes in kk are just a gimmick i hope you get the chance to check it out for yourself - they make fantastic difference when playing classic modelling - highly recommended). Thanks Luke!

I absolutely love my OG (black model) KingKorg. It’s one of the most underrated virtual analog synthesizers ever created. However, I’m a bit mystified by this “re-release”. The original- as good as it was/is - was noticeably lacking in a few key areas. First and foremost was the lack of an aftertouch sensitive keybed. The effects section is “good enough”, but nothing special. The VA waveforms are decent, and the filter models outstanding, but the PCM waveforms are - let’s just say it - not good, almost like a “hey we can throw this in for grins” kind of thing. This could have been a monster “upgraded” version, if they had offered an upgraded effects section, an expanded set of better-quality PCMs, and a AT capable keybed.
Except this is EXACTLY the same as their OLD KK, minus the tube (ouch) and the 61note keybed (subjective pref). So… No real value! Find an old KK in good shape for much less. There are many for sale regularly. And if you absolutely must of for this version because of the size, then you should wait a year. These will be MUCH cheaper VERY soon…
Now that was tasteful 2000's trance intro. These layered patches bring emotions and the classic representative are a blast throw back! Opinion from a non synth/piano player.
Yep. It's probably an overpriced vst in a box with some Arm proc board do the heavy lifting. The original KK had soul this is a cheap low effort money grab. No audio over USB no details as to the mod matrix capabilities and yeah guarantee this thing wont sell because of the price point (like the original KK) and they will fire sale it like they do their failures. At which time I might (strong might) be tempted to get one.
Hey Korg, thanks for including the mic, but put the keyboard on the top tier of a stand and see how far away your mouth is from the attached mic. Even Luke has to lean in sitting at a desk. It would be great to not have to pack a mic, cable & mic stand (or clamp) just to use the vocoder. 24" would do it, and use a right-angle XLR connector. Thanks!
Great demo , great synth , this chap is an excellent asset for Korg , BUT nearly a grand ? you can get the original half the price of this plus better key bed / size , no doubt this will be on special in a years time or just bring out a module for £400 ... hoping the new MicroKorg is more reasonably priced . Still love Korg gear
3 octaves are almost as bad as having slim keys. it would be nice to have this & the other "Pi" units as 4x octave minimum. 4x octave minimum or use as a module.
neat! love how M1 sounds can be loaded; this synth really craves for a bit more cleanness and tube warmness though for my style; effects are also meh. pretty cool, not sure if its gonna be the next big thing though, prolly not
As a software title in Korg Collection, this would be a no-brainer. But I can't justify that price for a synth made with a light plastic 37-key action and no "logue" oscillator/FX memory slots nor user sample memory. And how long is the boot time going to be? This is a serious question considering it's almost 3 minutes on the Nautilus!
Yeah, they dropped the ball completely with the E2 & E2S... They made us 2 new electribes that should have been 1 device & groovebox instead imo. They couldn't even give those new ones a proper new name as a electribe? Or get the product colours right to distinguish them. & they should just realise their mistakes & bring out a better all in one tribe in purple. A blend of both red & blue in the one box
Does it have midi 2.0 ? Does it have multiple voices over USB? Just like the ACCESS Virus. So it can play back midi over let's say 8 voices? And work like a plugin?
PEOPLE! (those interested) DON’T but this right away!! Wait a year, as it will be a LOT cheaper by then. Not many will buy this, at this price anyways. If you really care, go get a used Original KK and play with it for a year and see if you like it. If you do, but would prefer the smaller keybed, resell that old KK for the same price (pretty much) and get the KK-Neo for a lot cheaper at that point. End of the story.
Okay but when will you update the usb midi driver from being so stubborn VS everyone else on the market on average? Korg midi driver is what keeps plenty of people up at night when it should be a breeze to connect to a daw in 2024.
I wish all of these recent Korg synths with this form factor let you change the midi out to thru. I have the Wavestation and Opsix, and this is a pain point.
Can you change the patch without the thing losing the tempo or does it jump to another tempo. I have lost confidence in Korg being able to do even the simplest of things.
Korg, make a wireless (low latency Bluetooth) mpe, standalone/ midi keyboard with a large touch sensitive display and sliders. Also, design a small wireless (low latency Bluetooth) drum pad. It’s 2024!
Don't see the point you can get plenty of VST to cover this synth. You buy a synth like this for hands on vibe and more. It ticks the form but I'm not sure what else. Let's be honest you want be able to make a whole tune within it? What's the point of 24 voices of polyphony when you probably won't use it all?
@@TheBroDotTV Well you say that but I would say even the original KingKorg was a little limited in the "hands on" department. This version doesn't improve on that either. Also Korg have released both the Opsix and the modwave as software and you could argue your point with at least the Opsix. FM can use a lot of help when it comes to interfacing so what would be better than keeping it in hardware and hands on right? Lastly I would add the KingKorg engine itself would be an asset ITB more than hands on control hardware brings. Mainly because it is sort of a "best of Korg" engines combined into one instrument (DWGS, XMT, pcm, anthology of Korg filters over the years as well as some industry models etc etc). At least that's why the idea is attractive to me anyway. I can have a Korg anthology of sort ITB for this particular category. I am fairly clinical these days anyway I don't need to even play instruments just draw it in on the roll. This maybe isnt' for everyone but I can go either way. Play or just focus on fast composition and production. For those reasons I would prefer software.
@@Screaming-Trees I like hardware because you definitely get a nice vibe that you don't get via software but has to be worthwhile and integrate nicely within a set up. I dunno man I can't really see the point of this thing it just seems pretty limited for £1k. What's it really adding to a producer's set up other than some hands on control and like you say it's not even enough.
@@TheBroDotTV Yeah fair enough. Other than the Korg Anthology of sorts with regards to this particular category of synthesis, it doesn't add that much no. For me it's just that. That Korg sound of the last few decades (90s to recent times). You're right you can cobble together what the KK does using a bunch of other Korg synths (they got the whole Korg collection in software now) but the KK would still be convenient to have as a one stop shop of sorts when you're after that Korg sound of the last few decades. I have a bunch of analogue synths like the P10, the polybrute, Matriarch, Grandmother, Sub37 and a few others so I can relate on the hardware point. That said I make UK garage, techno, trance and few other electronica styles and for that the Matriarch and GM are the only hardware synths I use. I like the sound and I mean for electronica styles you can almost do it all with just a mono synth I guess. If I didn't have hardware I'd be fine with even just bare bones Ableton or Logic. When you start focusing on just composition and production you tend to be less picky about tools. Or at least this has been the case for me. I just fucking want to write a track not worry too much about aesthetics. But I am sympathetic to the other viewpoint too, ironically.
Excellent. I think vocoder has always been a hitch in my hip. Just unintelligible, when I really want stepped clarity with robotized sound from it so I don't have to mess with vocal processing after the fact.
OK, now I've tested it extensively. The fact is that the KingKorg Neo is not suitable for crisp and punchy bass. Somehow the filters and amp envelopes themselves do not generate any pressure. You can create punchy sounds with the KingKorg neo by mixing the three oscillators with different waveforms, especially sine and triangle, or even a PCM sample plus push up the Tone and Eq provides a lot of pressure, but the envelopes and the amp or VCA emulation are too weak even for crisp and punchy filterbass, so nothing comes out of it. Just like I can do that with the AL-1 in the Oasys, or the punchy Bass Sound in Paul Hardcastles 19. That's not possible here if you use a normal square wave and want to create bass with it, then it sounds pretty musty/tin and without bite and punch compare to other Synths. And i think the Envelopes are linear not exponential or logarithmic. And there is no Update on the Horizon, there is no Updater for KingKorg Neo on the Korg website. I don't understand any of this. The first KingKorg came onto the market in 2013. Now so many years have passed and there have been no more new updates for the KingKorg Neo, for example that you can also set the Envelopes to exponential, the Punch Level Parameter only increase more higher Frequencies like an Exciter but no low bass boost.
OK… I think I figured out the true reasons behind this awful weird move from Korg… They learned that Behringer was about to clone the KingKorg so they instead did it themselves. That’s the ONLY possible reasons sane minds at Korg could’ve decided to make the move. 😂
Lol. It's hilarious when they review features anyone buying this already expects. "You can pitch bend then add reverb & delay" whaaaaaaat🤯. Other than being tiny & white, how is this different from the OG KK? I'm tempted to buy an OP Six but can't find how the MKII differs from the SE.
About the only place worse for the headphone jack, would be mounted through one of the keyboard keys … 😂 Expensive, cutdown throwback. Don’t like the lack of wheels (joystick) and lack of AT, either. 😏
I really don’t get these mini keyboards where you can’t really call it a “piano” keyboard with full playing capabilities. When one is playing a soundtrack one plays from the very low end to the very high. Such as you hear the bass then the high tweeting sounds in a scary movie soundtrack.
Reverb+Delay impossible to use together, Korg, it's 2024 are you joke? and it's for the price - 1000$? No Vacuum Tube? Same engine, without a real updating? Such an amazing synth design and such a failure in everything else
Million dollar question, did they fix the useless MIDI sync for the arpeggio or is it still shit as it is on the original KK. The interesting thing as well is, will we finally get a firmware update for the original KK fixing all little stupid problems that seems to have been overlooked by KORG since the release of the KK back in the days..
A poor decision by Korg. Original King's can still be bought at the fraction of the cost of the Neo. Admittedly it looks very well laid out, but at $1000, these will sell in tiny numbers. Would love to hear from anyone at Korg trying to explain / justify the laughable R.R.P.? A keyless desktop module with actual analogue filters / BBD delay that responds to after touch @ circa $500 sounds feasible, Korg?
Korg is a disapointing company Imo. Upgrading older releases and asking top dollar. Like with the Wavestate SE and now this Neo. Neo cost 1.099,- euro. Compared it to the Roland Gaia2, what is a complete new synth, for 745,- euro. I'm not paying for pretty (with looks from the Access Virus TI2 Polar ).
@@SynthOSphere Yes I dare you are right. Korg is just warming up the Coffee, okay Roland does this for the last 30 years and they turn around 360 degree without ending. I would rather buy the 61 keys version and save my money. But I love my other Synthesizers I already own more 😍🥰

Now so many years have passed and there have been no more new updates for the KingKorg Neo, for example that you can also set the Envelopes to exponential, the Punch Level Parameter only increase more higher Frequencies like an Exciter but no low bass boost.
Yeah send me one Korg ill put it in my collection..
Is it as powerful as the King Korg?
No sequencer or a real-time recording in 2024 is a dealbreaker!
I wait korg new electribes series
Nice demo!
After a couple of years they will release kk neo mk2 with the tube and double the polyphony. 😂
king korg was 5 octave and that was what made it different to MK, it also had charm where as this, well, Korg you have lost it
About the only place worse for the headphone jack, would be mounted through one of the keyboard keys … 😂
Expensive, cutdown throwback.
Corporations and their marketing departments😅😅😅😅😅
Reverb+Delay impossible to use together, Korg, it's 2024 are you joke? and it's for the price - 1000$? No Vacuum Tube? Same engine, without a real updating? Such an amazing synth design and such a failure in everything else
Short king.
Just buy used electribe 2 for 300 and midi keyboard for 50. Its the same engine.
Still those pissy little screens though? Come on..................
finalmente aziende che fanno ste benedette 37 tasti con i tasti "normali " e non micro !!!!!
Sorry guys, love your stuff but that pricing is ridiculous!!!
"The Neo will be available from February priced at £949/£1,099."
Either Inflation has gone REALLY bad in the UK, or someone needs to be fired at Korg.
@@SynthOSphere Both.
Blows the gaia 2 out of the water anyhow
Million dollar question, did they fix the useless MIDI sync for the arpeggio or is it still shit as it is on the original KK. The interesting thing as well is, will we finally get a firmware update for the original KK fixing all little stupid problems that seems to have been overlooked by KORG since the release of the KK back in the days..
Welcome to bad gear, a show about the worlds most hated audio equipment
That price is a joke, better off with literally any other synth in the market 😂😂😂
It’s very much feasible… but by Behringer it seems.
@@SynthOSphere I wish they did.
$300-400 too high
I understand that it's just 2 parts so pretty useless on it's own. How can you build a track with that?
Pronounced, ‘tamber’. The word timbre is pronounced ‘tamber’.
NICE but over priced
[facepalm] The NEW KK is tagged as NEO, and yet the demo keeps bringing patches back from the past. Sigh. Come on guys!!! What NEW !?!?
Whats new in this synth but only less keys? 😂
And less TUBES… And shitty TINY joystick.
@@SynthOSphere Yes I dare you are right. Korg is just warming up the Coffee, okay Roland does this for the last 30 years and they turn around 360 degree without ending. I would rather buy the 61 keys version and save my money. But I love my other Synthesizers I already own more 😍🥰
recycle king. korg 😅
It’s crap ,,
Where the cv & gate imputs & outs
And all the midi ins outs ???
