Ok. Thank you guys for the comments! I stand by everything I said in this video but now (the day after posting) it’s clear to me that I’ve put myself in a place where I’m just trying a bit too hard to be nuanced, balanced and nice. Everything I said in the video is right but I think I should’ve made it more clear that: it’s too expensive for what it is. I’m not very excited about this synth because there’s just not a lot to be excited about. It’s not bad. But it’s just not exciting. Everything doesn’t need to be exciting in the first place. It’s a virtual analog synth from Korg - that’s it. I’ll rethink my video making process and go back to my unscripted, looser format. Still nuanced and reasonable but letting my personal opinions on things shine through more.
I think your comments were RIGHT ON THE MONEY! It's a great little synth. I owned the original one, and yes there are somethings they should have improved upon. An improved arpeggiator, with a couple of user slots, and the big one, reverb & delay at THE SAME TIME!! Maybe they'll be a firmware update coming, but I'm still getting one.
I once had a king korg(black) and I was able to summon up some great patches over and over. I sold it to afford the Waldorf iridium keyboard. I admit I do miss the simple immediacy of the king Korg. I certainly couldn’t program deep esoteric evolving soundscapes but to be honest, How many songs actually take full advantage of that kind of deep programming. Tge most important aspect of a synth is the QUALITY of its basic components. The oscillators and filters do sound pretty damn good. I have entertained buying another king Korg and if they included the analog tube on the Neo, I’d buy it.
BTW, you CAN go straight to each OSC volume level, by holding the 'shift' key whilst turning the 'tune' knob, after selecting which osc you want to change.
Great to see you on this review! I have the OG King Korg and I wouldn't mind grabbing this one as well... if just for aesthetics alone, but I love the sounds from it!
