    Thank you. Iohan still haunts my thoughts and dreams to this day. Like you, his journeys invoked a deep longing and sense of truth about what life and the world were all about, and why so many of us set out for the horizon. What is so strange is that he seemed to be living what we all inherently seek, seemed to discard the frivolous in favor of the salt of true connection, and yet he ended it the way he did. I keep wondering if it was the effect of the pandemic, claiming him the way it did so many others. I guess we’ll never really know. Nevertheless, this tribute brings a beauty and wholeness to his ending.
    Thank you, also, for calling attention to the support men need, and the tragic lack of support society so often has for them.
    And thank you for Gregory Alan Isakov’s song, whose music I first discovered through Iohan’s videos, and I’ve fallen in love with.
    Beautiful. Appropriate. Gracious.

      Thanks you for the most eloquent comment. Iohan lived a live many of us only wished, but his demeanour and character is what many of us aspired to. It was a combination of many factors, including COVID restrictions, that plagued him, and the result of it all is so very tragic. I only hope that through all of this, it opens eyes to the issues at hand. Men need support. And society needs to under that men in all walks of life suffer. Many in silence, too proud to reach out.

    Thank you so much Rob! Same thing here: why I am still in mourning, why is my soul still aching - caused by a man I never met. Oh Iohan: Had no idea through which valley of tears you went through, and how loaded your bike-packs were, too heavy to carry them on. We all wished we could bear a little of your weight and change your mind. Iohan, maybe the world was too small for you? Looking forward to your vast excursions throughout the universe - “let curiosity be your guide, and sleep with even more unfamiliar stars!” Thank you, Iohan - just shine on!

    I still like people; I'm old now, too. I just want to let you know I was right there in spirit as you said a goodbye tribute to Iohan. This world will miss seeing his smiling face experiencing outdoor honest adventures. Animals he would have encountered along the way will never know what they'll miss either. More lives should be like Iohan's was. I, nor anybody else can be there for Iohan while he faces struggles alone, but if anyone is hurting like he must have been, please reach out so others may be there for you. and remember, life is no promise one way or another. Many have it far worse than you, such as children suffering torment in burn wards. Find joy that this world ha plenty to offer the fortunate, because it'll be there for you too if fortune finds your particular door, and knocks. Oh, that we all could sit back and laugh at how wastefully foolish we've been all along. Yes, I think we all deserve a time of laughter, even at our own expense. Live well, laugh often, love much. Humor and laughter could heal this tired broken world, I just know it!

    Thx for this wonderful tribute to Iohan.
    I keep watching his films from time to time again. Mostly when I feel sad or I am lost in this brutal world. He gives me strength through his glory pictures.
    But there is a immense problem for people at risk of suicide. Iohan was allone! He was allone most of the day time and surerly at night time. Suicidal thoughts grow in these sircumstances a lot better then beeing intigrated somewhere in a society. I know that these thoughts can grow everywhere but when I traveled on my motorbike by my self, I quite often felt lonesome even under thousends of people. And lonliness is deffinately not good for suicidal exposed people.
    RIP Iohan

    • @SaltyBeard_Adventures
      @SaltyBeard_Adventures  Год назад +1

      Iohan had a number of things that compounded his depression. Being a solo traveler was not one of them. This was his way of moving through life. Yes, a little quiet and slightly introverted, but he was really quite a character. He was not alone during his last few years… far from it. However, severe sleep apnea, lasting issues from high-altitude sickness, and restraints from COVID restrictions all played at part. He sought help in the last few days. At his most vulnerable time our medical system failed him. Failed us.

      I'm a few years older, and I feel the same. I look at how he has inspired so many people in such a short time, and that inspires me to get out and explore for myself, and also share with others the same feeling of discovery as we learn of new (to us) places and chance encounters along the way. I look at his work, and know I have a long way to go in achieving something remotely similar, but it doesn't lessen my passion for trying to reach those goals.

      The music was one of Iohan's favourite songs. The Parsons learned this, just for the event, and it was quite touching. Most people at the event knew the connection Iohan had with this particular song. It was the ONLY song that I wanted. I'm glad you enjoyed my documentation of the event. We all have a void in our hearts left by Iohan, but maybe, over time, we will find a way to fill it with our own experiences out on the road of life.

    I wish I had been there. A great tribute. As with so many people who have literally superhuman powers (and HE DID!), his passion, like his insomina, and ultimate suicide were feuled by a gentle , beautiful soul who had much darkness in his past. That's all speculation but I really believe that sometimes awful things create beautiful compassion, art, determination and generosity. Whatever happened, we got Iohan branded beautifully on all of our souls. He died the day of my birthday and at the same age as Jesus. While Iohan didn't save me, he was certainly a huge inspirational figure since his videos came out years ago.

      My birthday is shortly after. I learned of his passing the day before I left on a 3-week trip. It was hard not to think about him, especially when the weather was bad… there are so many other things I learned about him during this event, especially from the group of treeplanters that worked with him over the years. Quite a kindred, gentle soul…. And prankster.

      HEY MIKE!!!! Great to hear from you. So happy you had a good (long) trip. You definitely had the right attitude, not letting any dilemas dampen your spirits. Good on-ya for that. I had a great race... until (spoiler) a few forest fires dumping ash basically shut down my lungs 115km from the end. I really contemplated pushing through, but when I got to Princeton, locals said the road was restricted to heavy equipment they were hauling in to a fire just west of Tulameen. Thwarted again. --- another video will document the second attempt.

      No apology needed (thanks to Google Translate).
      I agree that for someone many of us have never met, he took hold of our hearts and brought us along on his travels, allowing us to experience his ups, downs, follies, and triumphs in a very unfiltered way. It was his way of telling the story, and making us ponder life with his deep, meaningful words. He was a very different person that the rests of us. I think that's why many of us connected on a different level. The yearning to me more like him, to have such a soul would be liberating. Which, makes his passing that much more heartbreaking. Be safe and live life.
      ~~~~
      No se necesitan disculpas (gracias a Google Translate).
      Estoy de acuerdo en que para alguien que muchos de nosotros nunca hemos conocido, se apoderó de nuestros corazones y nos llevó en sus viajes, permitiéndonos experimentar sus altibajos, locuras y triunfos sin filtros. Era su manera de contar la historia y hacernos reflexionar sobre la vida con sus profundas y significativas palabras. Era una persona muy diferente al resto de nosotros. Creo que es por eso que muchos de nosotros nos conectamos en un nivel diferente. El anhelo de ser más como él, de tener un alma así, sería liberador. Lo cual hace que su fallecimiento sea mucho más desgarrador. Mantente a salvo y vive la vida.
    I only knew him through his videos on youtube and was in awe of his travels. This memorial is such a contrast to the recent UK one. Diolch Salty.
      I'm glad you enjoyed it. Iohan was living with Dan & Melanie he was back in Canada, and at the time of his passing. This type of event was needed to help many who knew him first-hand, from cycling, tree-planting, or just offering a house to do laundry, rest his head, and fix his bike.
    I subscribed Iohan channel back in 2014. We talked on Messenger that he will visit me in Poland when he will be in Europe. Sadly it will never happen 😢
      Yeah… Iohan and I chatted a few times online and when he was riding around during covid he was going to stop by on the island… we never did ride together ~ I feel the same :’(
    Very nice Rob, I'll never be the cyclist you and Iohan are/were, but you both inspire me to one day gain editing skills! Great job, and thanks again for all your hard work and the sacrifice of your time.
      Yeah... I found it difficult playing organizer, and also wanting to absorb all that was going on. So many people and conversations I wish I could have had more time to enjoy. However, I personally really enjoyed the event, the company, the ride, and the emotions that came over me.
      Not planned as such. There was someone last year that did an anniversary ride in Chile.
