  • Hi guys,
In this video I have a go at fixing the condensation/fogging issue with the odometer on the Sport Glide. It is a well known issue with a few models across the Harley Davidson range, not just the Sport Glide.
    Cheers

First want to thank you for your videos on the fogging speedo problem. I too have the same problem with my 2019 softail slim. I used your video where you took apart the speedo that quit working after you drilled it, to drill my own speedo accurately. 2nd I want to let you and others know this worked for me, and my speedo works just fine and no longer fogs up. I live in southwest Oregon so have plenty of humidity. I used your video of the disassembly of the non-working speedo to precisely drill 2 holes in the back of my speedo. Just got back from a 3-day ride on the Oregon Northern California coast with absolutely no fogging at all. Inside the speedo where you drilled your hole, I also drilled in the bottom corners of that center piece where the internals of the speedo are a bit tapered and appears to be room to miss the internal workings. I put 2 1/8-inch holes one in each bottom corner, I also did not allow the drill bit to penetrate any more than necessary to make a small air hole. Not real familiar with how to post, pics ect. on RUclips, but I do have pictures of the back of my speedo where I drilled, I will try to post them. Thanks, sorry it took trashing your speedo but hopefully it helps others as it did me. Without your video I would still be putting up with a fogged-up speedo every time.

I'm glad I was able to help. I was able to replace the speedo at a reasonable cost so the learning experience didn't cost me too much in the end

Good vid, I've got a 2005 Softail which suffers the same fogging, and I'm sure it's prevalent in many previous years as well, just one of those 'nuances' that comes with being a Harley owner. Looking forward to seeing how your fix goes.

Hi, the fogging is a deadset pain no doubt. New video up in a few days after my road-test last week.

I've had the same problem with my 2014 FXDWG. I used a LED light along the side of the speedo to determine where the logic boards were located & drilled two 2mm holes on opposite sides to avoid touching the boards. Problem solved. I live in Australia in the tropical north.

I drilled two small holes in 2018 Heritage and I live in Florida. Drive in fog and rain had not had a problem

Every comment I see with this problem is with tank mounted gauges. Does anyone have this issue on a bagger with fairing mounted gauges?

i drilled a hole in mine and it ended up worse, i rode on a foggy morning and the hole allowed it to collect a lot of water,

I may have the solution. I put two small bags of moisture absorber next to the module. You get these small bags when you buy something, it's in the package... No more fog!

Break the glass, remove the broken glass pieces, fill void with epoxy (color of your choice), problem solved. Knowing your presice speed is highly overrated.

Have you tried this yourself? I thought epoxy got hot when hardening?? and thats not something u want to do to an led screen.

@nollidelddik No, it ruins the speedometer but it looks pretty and doesn't bother you anymore.
