This very morning, my wife sent me for dark rum. She needed it for a cake. What kind, I ask? She says Myers's Dark. None to be found in our local North Carolina ABC. I pick up some Captain Morgan. She says, no Myers's Dark? I say nope. None to be found. She shows me the empty Myers bottle. It has a Camp Lejeune price sticker $12.99 I retired from Camp Lejeune in 1999! The Myers's Dark lasted probably for over for 25 years.
Myers always seems to get overlooked, pushed to the back and forgotten. On its own not the greatest but combined with other rums can provide a more rounded balance of flavours and characteristics so blending it seems the way to go.
In my part of the US every bar keeps Myers stocked; if you order anything with a dark rum and don’t specify the rum, Myers is what you’ll get. I also don’t stock it because it’s so cheap I don’t even look at that bottom shelf. I’m definitely going to consider a smaller bottle to use as a mixer or to add to soft drinks.
We only get the normal Myers OD here in the UK. There's no point them releasing their other lines here as they have zero market share. Myers wouldn't really ever feature as a Household name here for most Rum Fans. It's a totally different scene in the US as Myers is a huge seller. Here...we simply have A LOT more better Rums.
😂😂😂 Yes Myers was my favorite for decades. And I've just started my real journey with rums and the whole tiki thing just in the last 4 months. And it's quite interesting how you're trying to describe Myers I can say that it has a taste of its own but it is hilarious as you're trying to distinguish it and I think that when I get off work today I might just go home and pour some in a Tumblr and see what I came up with lol But I have found other ones that are more my favorite now. But Myers is one of my staples in my little collection I usually have a gallon and it's right below 50 bucks for a gallon
Most bars here have meyers. It works in a pinch. I don't buy it personally. I think I saw it at 17 dollars. A few dollars more I can get something better. When I was younger I would buy it and sip it neat, but I didn’t know any better.
I just checked and Myer's, which was well under $20, only a couple of years ago, is no longer priced in the budget category and usually runs around $30 or more. For that price, I can better far better rums.
Hi Steve. With reference to ester and funk from a Jamaican rum how would Hampden compare to Wray and Nephew overproof. Obviously very differnt rums. im trying to gauge what is a high level of funk etc. Ive tried Appleton up to the 12 year old and would not describe any of them as funky😊
Thanks Stevo! It's ulikely to be a sipper for me, that'a for sure☝I got a question for you: In the world of brandy and cognac is it necessary to buy an X0 or Extra X0 to enjoy it?And as to a cognac is there a good one a wee bit over 50-60 pounds ?
Ha, so as i mentioned before, I only really do Expensive Brandy. Its hard to explain, But in Brandy world, Price comes down to Quality more than anything. Yes age is a factor, but they're not intrinsically linked like Rum or Whiskey. Not only that, in Brandy world, you don't get those really Oaky/Barrel Notes that you get from Rum and Whiskey. Hence why I love Younger Rum. Cos I want Rum to Taste like Rum. Not Rum that tastes like Wood. With Brandy, there's no denying, that even on an 8-10yo Brandy, it's still Grape juice first and foremost. Recommendations; Depending on Prices. Actually... to start, find samples from brands that do an VSOP and an XO. Even mainstream brands like Remy/Hennessey/Courvoisier you can tell a real difference between them. Some people prefer VSOP and that's cool. It's like me with Younger Rums. But 2 of my favourite Cheaper Brandies are Cognacs, check out something like Pierre Ferrand 10 Generations. and the Frapin VSOP. But if I was going for what I really enjoy drinking; Ferrand Selection Des Anges. That is my All Star Brandy!
Thanks Steve for the detailed answer and i got all this mainstream stuff in my collection. On the whole i prefer vsop to xo. My favourites are those "golden oldies" like 1)Hennessey vsop, Courvoisier X0, Remy Martin Accord Royal 1738( Napoleon class-min. 6Y0) Frapin vsop, Chatea de Montifau vsop, Nairy 20 (from Ararat) Charles Aznavour Signature Blend 25 (fromArarat)..."Armenia 10yo 45% ABV, Dvin (Armenia) 10yo 50%ABV (from Ararat) Just as a couple of days before I saw Ferrand 10 Generations on sale (50% sale) but the package and the "decanter" itself, looking awful, discourage me from buying it. Now I know that i was dead wrong(((@@StevetheBarmanRumReviews
Living in China and I just paid 68 rmb lol which is 9.37 usd at this time 😂 this is the average price here I couldn't believe it, every store had a similar price.
Myers is my favourite cheapo rum & coke for me and I always restock it especially as it's only 20 EUR for a 1 litre bottle in my neck of the woods. And don't get me started on the spelling mistake "Myers's"... Whatever next "Colour" without a U? Hmmpf 😡
Myers and o.j. the go to drink. Not sweet and the o.j. cuts the sweetness even more. Why would anyone go looking for bananas in a sugarcane drink? If you want banana put one in and make a cocktail. Just saying.
I am def not a rum connoisseur, plus I'm quite limited by budget, so my go to in Canada is Screech made in Newfoundland. Well the liquor store was out of Screech and Meyer's was on sale, and it looked interesting and... yuck! All I can say is yuck. Do not like it. At all. Kind of like ew just alcohol with no redeeming taste/features. Anyway, that's my review.

Myers is lovely. Great in a rum and coke. Personally, I add 0.25-05oz to my mint juleps. Adds a lot of interesting flavor.
Myers is good in cocktails. Really works in hurricanes! I use it sometimes when Demerara rum is called for. Lots of smoke and caramel

I retired from Camp Lejeune in 1999! The Myers's Dark lasted probably for over for 25 years.
I’ve always used it as a dark rum when it’s called for in cocktails. Never considered it a Jamaican Rum. Love me some Myers and OJ!
I love Myer's in Hurricanes and in a weekday Jungle Bird
It is a good rum for baking 😘
A great option for cocktails in parts of the world that don't have access to Worthy Park, Hamilton Pot Still Black or other more premium dark rums.
I used to drink Captain Morgan but then I tried Myers and Coke at a wedding. I’ve never looked back.
Myers always seems to get overlooked, pushed to the back and forgotten. On its own not the greatest but combined with other rums can provide a more rounded balance of flavours and characteristics so blending it seems the way to go.
There is no better rum for eggnog than myers dark. So buttery and smooth.

Since we are talking about prices. €12,90 in Germany. Mai 9th 2024.

Was this maybe the big 1.75 L bottle?
Try tracking down their Platinum White expression too
At our local grocery store, it is like $20.99 for the 750ml bottle of Myers Dark. The Myers white rum though IS $10.99.
Myers and Coke was my go to in college. Everyone else hated it.

There's a Wray video up this week. If that doesn't answer your questions. Come back to me! (Wednesday I think)
If you're baking and run out if vanilla, it's perfect.

You think its made with bluffwood? And some extra wood in the drink of the barrelll to age? Maybe...
Best part of booze shopping in Nebraska is places are allowed to make a clearance sale of whatever they want half off to even more
$20.99 for a 750 at a big box store near me in Austin, TX.
I tried this rum, I would describe its smell as a punch in the face that knocks you back. And it tastes like drinking a burnt rubber tire.
I LOVE Myers rum. I add a splash to my maitai. 👌
Living in China and I just paid 68 rmb lol which is 9.37 usd at this time 😂 this is the average price here I couldn't believe it, every store had a similar price.
$18.99 at my local liquor store here in California
Rum and ginger beer is the way to do it
Prueba el old port rum video

I want rum to burn down the throat. Meyers has that wood taste. What rum would burn the most? I don't like whiskey.
Myers’s colada’s please!
$40-45 for 1.75 liter in South Carolina Myers Dark
Myers rocks. I’ve had elite rums and I’d rather have Myers. Maybe I’m just a hopeless plebe.
$25.99 here in Napa California
Austrian here: 14€ for 0,7 l and 18€ for 1,0 l.
$15 for Myers. It’s so inexpensive I’ve never considered buying it.
I paid 13.99$ for a 375ml bottle.
$18.50 for 750ml in the US for me
I add it to root beer
Myers works wonders in a hurricane
Myers and o.j. the go to drink. Not sweet and the o.j. cuts the sweetness even more.

Do a Hamilton review.
Already done... I referenced it in the video!

Definitely not a good rum captain Morgan is definitely better
