Regarding buying a barrel, I've looked into it before. They will keep it for a set amount of years (8 to 10 for the ones i saw) then charge you storage after that. They may also charge a bottling fee, shipping fee and alcohol tax at the end. Overall, it can double the cost of the whisky.
Hey Guys: I am an Irish Gaelic speaker with familiarity with Scottish Gaelic. In Scottish Gaelic, AN CUAN MOR (Un Koo un More) means The big Ocean or Sea See also, Cunard Line the well established Scottish Ocean going shipping company. CUNARD is an Anglicized spelling of CUAN ARD=HIGH SEAS. In Irish Gaelic CUAN MOR means Big Harbor SLÁINTE Mike
IMO synthetic corks are the way to go. Preserves the tradition and esthetic of corks, while using the improved technology we need to keep our liquid safe! Cheers guys! -C
Saw this title and thought I have to watch this immediately to hear you try to pronounce Gaelic, you did not disappoint as you failed miserably. Love what you're doing though guys.
I recently won (twice) £50 to spend at the Whisky Exchange, The first time I opted for Glendmorangie Quinta Ruban which was £44 and a small 200ml bottle of Glenfarclas 105. I had to pay a little more and pay for delivery. Without the Glendfarclas it would have all been free. The second win I went for a bottle of Willet Pot Still Reserve which is £64 over here. So had to contribute towards its cost plus delivery. So I have done both, gone cheaper and then more expensive. All excellent drinks.
I stood in line to get Stranahan's Snowflake Batch #21 last Friday and I'm saving one of my 2 bottles for my future son/daughter's 21st birthday. We're not even expecting yet, but the earliest I could possibly gift that whiskey is 2040. I'll be 51 years old. Guess I better be setting a monthly reminder to turn that bottle...
Rex and I are totally on the same wave-length! I just recently got a $100 gift card, and bought 1 bottle, specifically because it felt like free money that I could splurge with. But I have never spent $100 on a single bottle of my own money.
One suggestion for his child's 21st birthday would be the Balvenie 21 Port. To buy one now not knowing anything about what his whisky tastes will be could be challenging. I would be looking for a malt that is not considered polarizing in the flavor profile.
Glenfiddich Winter Storm is 21 years old. A very different, interesting whisky. Fairly friendly, but can really carry those older wood notes. Tastes best, imo, if you let it breath for a good 20 or 30 minutes.
I have an update from one of my previous comments. After finding Laphroaig 10 very enjoyable, I gave Ardbeg a try. It was very similar in smell, but Ardbeg was much woodier, and a little less salty to me. I'm having trouble picking a favorite out of the two.
Hello guys, thanks for the great content as usual. What do you think about the rising prices of our favourite spirit these last few years? have you noticed any on your side? and what do you think of it? it seems to me that Everytime we are not looking, prices increase slightly and we are seeing more and more pricey NAS accross the board.
I would love to see what you guys think of the Laphroaig PX Cask compared to this. It is also usually more expensive than the Lore I wonder what you think of that!
Answer to question: Do both, one month (or week or two weeks, depending on your budget) I buy one $80, the next month I buy two $40... It works out great because you drink the cheaper stuff more.
Question for both Daniel and Rex: Gun-to-your-head decision time. You can only buy one but you have to buy one or the other, which do you buy, Ardbeg 10 or Laphroaig 10?
@Daniel - How do you compare the LORE with this An Cuan Mor? Could you do a comparison someday if you haven't already? I've found it hard to choose between the two, but you once declared Lore to be your favourite Lapphie so i'm wondering if this ACM altered your view? To expand on that, how do you feel the Lore and the An Cuan Mor compare not only to each other but also to the Laphroaig 18yo? Slainte to you guys and keep up the good work! It's amazing what you guys achieved in such relatively short notice - homing in on 600 videos on this channel alone! Bravo! Also looking forward to the continuation of your distillery adventure!

I know this is old, but a warlock is a wizard/sorcerer who has broken a rule/code of conduct. At least this is what I was informed of from another fellow sorcerer that I know. Furthermore, wizard is the term commonly used within fantasy or folklore, the common term among male and female IS indeed a witch.
Glenfarclas 21: valid option, but the chance of broken cork will be in the vicinity of 5000%. They are notorious for bad corks. in fact: I opened a botlle of 21 just last weekend, guess what happened...
The vault list doesn't appear to be updated... it only lists 833 entries, and several of the donations i have made (that wouldn't fall in the sections mentioned) don't appear in the list. Is is possible the updated list hasn't been pushed to the website accessible location?
Warlock vs Wizard is more of a Dungeons and Dragons class debate. Both use magic, but Warlocks have what's called a "pact blade". The pact blade (usually a dagger or short sword) is used as a focus for casting their magic. Wizards do not need a pact blade.
I was, for some reason 100% sure that both of you gonna immediately know from the nose that it's Laphroaig. I only ever tasted two whiskies from Laphroaig, the 10 and the CQ but when I bought a blended scotch that contained a tiny bit of Laphroaig, I instantly pinpointed it, and by no meaning amI any better at the whisky game than you guys. Just surprised and really curious what this particular release must be like!
I have this problem/question at the moment... looking at 2 bottles of €50 each - so, 2 'really nice' ones... plus spreading some flavours around. My wishlist is so long now... still torn: what next? The Kilkerran 12yo is topping the list I think.

Warlocks are usually simply practitioners of evil magic, though I play d&d so I know them as people who made a pact with a powerful entity to gain their magic powers
@12:24 does Daniel call it...a "Bourbon finished in European Oak" or am I hearing things? Could just be the alcohol talking, but perhaps we need to have Daniel and Rex make another adjustment to that "____ many days since Daniel messed something up" board.
This video makes me realize that I don't actually use "wizard" or "witch" that often. Maybe it's due to years of playing Final Fantasy, but I usually use "mage" or "magician", both of which happen to be completely gender neutral. When I hear "wizard" I do think male, and "witch" female, and while semantically they are an equivalent pair (i.e. they both refer to a practitioner of magic), pragmatically "witch" does tend to have more negative connotations.
To me pear--vanila flavour on top of peatiness is trademark for any Laphroaig, without it, it is not Laphroaig :D edit: the creme chese frosting can be that note, what for me is pear-vanila ...
Yesterday I was going to do the whole buy two decent bottles of whisk(e)y around $100 and then i found that they had 1 last Yamazaki 12 at $90 and also Basil Hayden on sale...so yeah i went overboard a bit...
Dear Daniel, I recently purchased a (quite expensive) Laphroaig An Cuan Mòr. I’ve noticed that the bottle has some sort of very small particles floating around. Looking from behind the green glass they appear to be brown. Could this be residue from the cork or is it because the whisky is not chill-filtered? Either way, how do I/should I get rid of it? Do I need to return the bottle?
Isn't most of the real vs synthetic cork debate about cost and sustainability/carbon footprint? I know when you look @ cork on wikipedia it goes into at length the carbon footprint comparison between the different types of bottle stops.
So, uh, it sounds like you guys are offering free storage. I wonder what 21 years in the Texas heat would be like.. think there'd still be anything left to bottle?
Can maybe the guy who doesn’t know what he is drinking take the lead on comments? Way more interesting to hear Rex work his way toward an impression than hear Daniel who has read all the tasting notes in advance. Or maybe it’s just me.
