I’m re-discovering Dinosaur Jr, listening to their numerous albums, and lately I had the nearly definitive conclusion than Farm is one of their best production, a real master piece. While I also love the song "Don’t pretend you didn’t know", which is on another album, I forgot which one.
I can say I'm a newer fan of this band. I listened to so much music in the 90s and somehow I missed Dinosaur Jr! I knew and liked Feel the Pain but I never truly listened to them. But one day my younger brother insisted that I give the album Farm a listen. I was hooked. I've been spending time since then catching up on all of their material!
Dude! The 90’s was the time for music, there so many bands just bursting out of the underground from the 80’s like indie punk, thrash metal, industrial rock, hip hop, it was a like candy store for music lovers..as a early teenage in the 90’s it was beyond awesome..it wasn’t all about Weezer, STP, and candle box..Dig deep there’s many gems like Dinosaur Jr
Farm is a really good album. I wore out their debut and Bug and Fossils a lot soon after they came out. Went back to them earlier this year and discovered Farm. Not many bands can stay this good for this long. Great songwriting and playing.
Understood. Great band. Try checking out the earlier albums like "Bug","You're living all over me " and "Green mind ". All these albums are great and listen to them front to back. The songs are put in perfect order. Rock on. I'm sure you'll totally enjoy.
Yea my only beef with this show - change guitars between songs, have the guitar tech tune up the one not in use. Too much noodling between songs. J Mascis is like a hard rock Jerry Garcia, can be melodic and sing and crunch all at the same time.
I thought they hated eachother after Lou left. Its so cute how they made up and lived happily ever after. Its like something out of an early Taylor Swift-song.
Came because despite never being a big Dinosaur Jr fan in the past, I just bought the Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster and wanted to hear his in action. I really wanted an affordable Jazzmaster, and his model fits the bill nicely. Stayed because I was wrong for never being much of a Dinosaur Jr fan in the past. I might need to change this soon.
@Chris E. Yeah, Well the thing with being an adult and having gainful employment is that we adults also tend to have financial priorities that come before dropping 1k + on a guitar. These 'made for jr high kid guitars' really aren't that bad, and there's a whole Offset guitar group on Flakebook that would tear you to pieces for this cork sniffer bullshit you're talking. With that said, go run along with those lawyers and dentist friends of yours that do drop absorbent amounts of money on guitars.
Grunge is what US post punk/indie guitar rock was called when it was no longer indie, after being commercialized by bands like Pearl Jam and marketed into a mainstream format. This band is the real deal, as it was before the whole thing got picked up by MTV, so please do not call it grunge, that's a sacrilege!! I mean, you wouldn't call Hüsker Dü grunge either, or would you?
this is so fuckin really dinosaur jr, without great play lou bass & without murph hammer, dinosaur not life. love J and really dinosaur. SORRY I'M ASIAN GUY WITH BAD ENGLISH SPEAKING.
Godlike solo on Cure song. I saw them when they were starting, at Vassar College about 1989 and he had an old suitcase with a bunch of Big Muffs in it and a tangle of cable. At the end of the concert they jammed out until some bizarre transcendent climax where the bass player was lying on the stage howling into the microphone while Jay Mascis hammered on a single major bar chord , a drone under the repeated tortured sounded wailing of the bass player. I suddenly found my consciousness altered, everything glowed sort of as if luminous from the inside. It was transcendent. Thanks a lot, Dinosaur Jr.
@TheBoi353 I wouldn’t say opinion. That’s fact. They are CRIMINALLY underrated and J has to be the most underrated guitarist of all time. I hope I get to see Dinosaur live sometime :(
I remember the Where You Been tour at Brixton Academy in 93, it was so loud this younger girl in front of our crew immediately fainted and we had to get her out, I couldn’t hear for days
There are the top Grungy Altpop bands and Dinosaur had always in the top of the list was one of the only East Coast guys.. I'm working to create a band. Not an easy thing to do as people are very scary these days
The only thing keeping me from holding Farm as the best reunion era album is the mixing-Lou’s bass is so hard to hear and that sucks. It’s so much better when the bass is right there with J.
@7 Angels 7 Plagues Thanks for allowing me to fuck myself. Nice job douche. I get that a lot, actually, so get in line. My old man is still alive, so no bastard here, douche.. My old man is still has plenty of spring in him, which I'm grateful for you douche. :)
Not saying guitar solos from Slash or those of Pink Floyd and many other aren’t giving me some goose bumps too, but the guitar solos of J. Mascis remind me those of J. Hendrix. Both having this little magic I can’t explain but can’t ignore at the same time. Guitar/Bass/Drums trios are the essence of rock music (in my fucked opinion!). A second guitar or any other good musician never hurts, for sure, but I think there is some kind of purity, of inevitable musical honesty and power in those trios.
J great guitarist that actually can play???? Right! My dishwasher sounds better than this crap. Oh by the way, a tuner for Xmas would do him some good for starters...
He did what on his keyboard? He wrote? This crap? Bro, if he managed to screw his keyboard/piano tunes so tragically bad: 1.) he has nothing to be proud of; 2.) should find and pay someone to reassure him (persuade him is a better word) of his "refined musical taste"; 3.) at best, his knowledge is mediocre. Him being No. 86 on the Rolling Stones list of Greatest Guitarists is an insult to common sense!
watching this for me is like... "Oh, I forgot about these guys" I was into them heavily at one point, so much I started writing rip off Dino songs until I caught what I was doing... embarrassing! they used to be on letterman a lot... they made the cameras almost shut down because of the volume!

love him coming onstage and just tuning his guitar out loud for 2 minutes. legend
This band looks exactly like you'd expect them to look 30 years later, and I'm loving every minute of it. ❤
Sooo rare that a band can come out with an album that is as good or better (best) as their first after 20 years of doing it. FARM
I’m re-discovering Dinosaur Jr, listening to their numerous albums, and lately I had the nearly definitive conclusion than Farm is one of their best production, a real master piece.

I wish I could play same like Lou eh

@Brandon Guillermo piss off, bot 😂
I honestly think it's because he's playing a p bass and it's cleaner than he usually plays so you can actually hear it

Damn, this drummer is good
@@christianjones1854 seriously? Damn i didn't know that, Murph is a legend though

36:11 LOL
I've seen a lot of bands, and Dinosaur Jr is LOUD. Easily top 3 loudest bands I've seen play. They were unprepared.
Motorhead, Dinosaur Jr and probably QOTSA are the loudest bands i've ever seen live.
success! haha
Probably waiting for another band after Dinosaur Jr. Something more poppy.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Only J could get away with tuning between every song without muting the guitar while at a major festival. Classic!
If it's good enough for Hendrix to do, it's good enough for everyone that will ever pick up a guitar, as none of us will ever be Hendrix...
he use vibrato ! ....

@@gregkut1 I always thought of him as Neil Young-like. Warbly vocals and melodic crunchy guitars.

I love Lou's vocals on Feel The Pain
J Mascis, I never get tired of his music. Like a hard rock, high volume high energy version of Jerry Garcia.
Hi I totally hate everything jerry he ever did however Jerry Garcia is now cool in my book now that you outlined how Jay is like him

Whenever you see a Hiwatt onstage, be prepared. Let alone three Marshall stacks...
it depends, sometimes most of the stack is spare or for show.
@@me_faultI've seen this band from the 80's on... they have every amp on, trust me... no dummy cabs on the stage
They all three are very impressive. The bass playing is quite unique, and what the drummer produces from such a minimal drum set is stupefying.
I saw them in 2009, they had this exact setup in a small bar in State College.
Was deaf for a literal week, it was awesome.
Having seen both Motörhead and the Cure ... Dinosaur Jr were / are the cream in the proverbial Jurassic cake !
