  • Here, I review my Ibanez RG6003fm guitar. Stock except for me putting 9's on it instead of 10's.
    Signal Chain: Voice → MXL 990 → Carvin SM162 → Echo Audio Gina 3G analog 1
    Guitar: Ibanez → Blackstar ID:Core 10 → MXL BCD-1 →
    Carvin SM162 → Gina 3G analog 2
    A small amount of EQ and compression on the voice in Tracktion 4. No post production audio to the guitar, except some eq on the "tight metal" section.

    I got my son one of these for his first guitar, I loved it so much I got myself one. Just had a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker and 59, as well as a 3 way switch and push/pull coil split on the tone knob, it's so great it's inspiring me to play more! Even bought another body in natural finish to build a "Franken-RG."

    • @jamesjrmusic
      @jamesjrmusic  Год назад +2

      I’m so glad you liked it! I love that natural finish. I feel like these 6003s are a great value used. Just make sure on the used, cheaper RG series that the neck is straight. I bought a 6005 recently that has a roller coaster neck. I think it’s because they are thin and 24 frets.

    • @scramblesthedeathdealer
      @scramblesthedeathdealer Год назад +1

      @@jamesjrmusic I paired the natural body with an RG4EXQM1 neck... it has a quilted maple ruby-colored headstock, shark tooth inlays, and a locking nut. 😆 Fits perfectly and feels nice, I'm planning to use it as a lap steel guitar, thus the name "Franken-Steel." I just don't know if I trust myself with the soldering... my guitar tech was even confused by Ibanez's 5-way selector!

    Hey man, dug the video. When replacing the pickups you should consider the Dimarzio Gravity Storm pickups. I popped a set of those in an old RG and they sound incredible. Lots of gain and bite but not over bearing at all.

    Best review on this guitar! Is there a way to adjust string height on it? Maybe with the saddles is only thing I can think of. I've had this guitar for about 5 weeks and have 1 week to return it within their 45 return policy. You know the store, ha ha. Any help, advice on would be much appreciated.

      Mike PJ10 The wood color can vary wildly on some woods. I am also not sure if they’re still using rosewood on the fingerboards or if it’s something more easily imported now.

      They use jatoba now, which has lighter color. I bought used, and the fretboard is rosewood.

    awesome review! Would you recommend putting a Slash signature alnico pickup in a guitar like this? I've been thinking about buying one and adding the slash signature pickups to them

    • @jamesjrmusic
      @jamesjrmusic  7 лет назад

      Pspc72 The Slash pickups are Alnico II magnets. They don't make the Slash set with a trembucker bridge pickup. They do make a regular Alnico Pro II trembucker that has the correct string spacing you would need for the bridge position of this guitar.
      The regular Alnico Pro IIs are also 4 conductor pickups, which will allow you to wire up all the nifty switching options on the 5-way of the RG. They should be very similar tonally to the Slash signature set.
      You only need the trembucker for the bridge position. "Trembucker" pickups have a wider pole piece spacing for Fender-style/Floyd Rose equipped guitars.
      Short answer: don't get the Slash set; get the regular A2 pros with a bridge trembucker.

      I totally forgot about spring spacing and bridge types with pickups. Woops! Where did you buy this guitar? I mainly see this guitar in places like Guitarcenter and they go for way more than 270

    • @jamesjrmusic
      @jamesjrmusic  7 лет назад

      Pspc72 Guitar Center. It was on sale for $279. The refresh of this model has a burl top and center dots, I think. Same guitar, essentially. I prefer the look of the flame veneer.

    Great review! I only have Schecter guitars with coil taps and I'm interested in buying this guitar because I heard that this doesn't suffer from a volume loss when you use the single coils. Is this true? Or do you notice a volume loss when you use positions 2 and 4? Thanks in advance for your time!

    • @Ottophil
      @Ottophil 2 года назад +1

      Do you know how coil taps work? If its half the coil it will be half the volume. Get an HSH if thats your issue

    • @jamesjrmusic
      @jamesjrmusic  Год назад

      It did lose output, as one would expect, the split neck and bridge together position was very nice.

    Just got this same guitar, even same color, this weekend. Pickups look exactly the same, yet online, all the specs say the pickups are inf. They look like and seem to be the quantum's, as you said, however. Are we sure they are?

    • @jamesjrmusic
      @jamesjrmusic  7 лет назад +1

      Harrison Karlin The Infinity pickups have historically had the "INF" stamp on them. The specs I found from Ibanez have these listed as Quantums. It is a 2015 model, I believe. They may have changed the pickups mid-year or something?

    • @jamesjrmusic
      @jamesjrmusic  4 года назад

      I was never really able to find out, but the backs of the pickups lead me to believe they were indeed Quantums. I don't have the guitar anymore, so I can't tell.
