Nowadays most people are choosing to lease. I just leased a Ford F150, STX. The 2.7V6 , which is one model that has good reviews. Agree! "This stuff hurts". I wonder if they will be affordable again like they were a few years ago? Maybe since they went up so much under one administration they might be able to go down under another. I hope so. I am in no hurry to get a new vehicle with these prices. Look how much the trucks were then. Crazy thank you Jason again! : )
The damage done from the rampant inflation won't go away by much. The dollar isn't getting any value added back to it but cheaper energy will make every month sting less. Get rid of absurd mandates and abusive regulations from EPA/CARB etc. and you might see affordable and reliable vehicles coming back. The reason these trucks are getting so expensive and complicated is they are being forced to chase increasingly outrageous regulations which have nothing to do with the actual environment anymore.
I’ve been in the market for a used 2023+ 1500 with the 3.0 duramax and a 6.5 ft bed for a few months now and they seriously will pop up for $55,000. For a used 1500. I just can’t fathom how someone would/could pay that much for a used half ton truck.
By used, not even from a stealership. They add on the new add ones,I've noticed. So they recharge for stuff already paid for. Avis or hertz have good cars. I've had some good luck buying my last two cars thru them. Warranties are only for a year. Still better deals.
My 2020 Chevrolet Trail Boss 5.3 l l LT sunroof loaded ❤ 57,000 what time I got out of Finance it was 61,000 payments of 925 a month 7 years absolutely ridiculous extended warranty in gap insurance included love my truck though have 92,000 miles ❤
You have to go in with some positive equity. Never put more than $1000 down. You're better off making double payments afterwards with your cash but ALWAYS have some positive equity on your trade.
saw a dealer just other day selling 24' silverado 4x4 5.3 liter 1500 LT for 44k....had about 10 of em all white there are deals out there but you have to put in some time/ work to get it, no different than any other time
i got a 2020 f150 and a 2010 f150, the 2010 is alot better truck than the 20, of course its paid for, almost got the 20 paid and cant wait to finish paying for this thing
My '03 F150 has 223k on it and still gets from point A to point B just fine. I'm not willing to cut lifestyle OR investments to allow something to spend most of its life in my driveway.
Before Covid they where decent price I got my all new Chevy Silverado rst 2020 with 0 miles for 42k in 2020 then Covid happened it jacked up everything sucks
You tell us to negotiate, Give some examples. Show a window sticker price the explain the price we should go for. Example f150 MSRP $63,210..00, what should we try to get this for OTD before tax, license, Doc Fee etc. I bought a 2024 F150 XLT MSRP $63,310.00, OTH price I got was $50,310.00 did I get a good negotiate price? They said fair price was 52,210 before I got this OTD price. So 13K off MSRP and 1,900 off their fair value listed price.
Too many variables. Specific dealer, discounts, supply and demand, your negotiating skills, how many other same vehicles in the area, different regions, etc. Do the best you can to get the best deal you can for where you plan to shop and that's the best you are gonna do. There is no set rule or parameters
Got a new Ram 5.7 but do not believe it will reach the 540,000 miles on my old 2010 Mercury 4.6 that has less crap to break ans cost less when they occasionally do. Yea its a boat but better built.
I consider myself middle class. However, I just negotiated a pretty good deal, on a 25 Silverado 3500 Duramax Trailboss LTZ. I also had a very sizeable down payment. I can't believe people are financing these things, 100%! That's a mortgage payment! How do people sleep at night?!
I don't think a 90K pickup truck is even close to middle class. To comfortably afford one, you should probably be making 400K each year; you'd spend 20% of your yearly income for one year then insurance/maintenance going forward. That's doable but still sketchy in my opinion because you could spend the difference on so many other things. Now if you're "only" making 120K per year, or maybe your household income is "just" 250K a year, then no you cannot afford that pickup truck, but 120K earners are the top quintile ie you're closer to upper class. The curious thing is that these pickups are extremely common where I live in the South. Must be a lot of rich people.
@@langhamp8912I agree with your line of thinking if we are talking about buying a truck every few years. But if you buy new and keep for the life of the vehicle (12-15 yrs) then no you don’t need to make 400k per year. I bought my F150 platinum cash back in 2017 and I didn’t make 400k then nor do I now. I have no debt including no mortgage.
I wish I still had my 1996 F150 Eddie Bauer Edition I think I paid $12,000 for it but I guess gas will never be .50 / gallon again either it is what it is . I can’t imagine how things will be for my grandkids
Curious as to your thoughts on leasing in this current car market. With the wildly inflated prices, I feel like if you do NEED a newer car, leasing might be more worth it currently. Kinda feel like it makes more sense rather than taking out a mortgage for a car lol
My local GMC dealer contacts me twice every year to ask when I plan on trading in my 2012 Duramax. I keep telling him I chose to put the $1500/mth in my retirement account, instead of his. Nice guy, he gets it. 😅. I like this 12 yo truck more and more every year. When it breaks I fix it. It does everything I ask.
I think it’s idiotic to buy a new vehicle, especially if you finance it, without a large down payment. Personally, I wouldn’t finance anything. If I can’t pay cash, I don’t need it.
I remember all the way until 20 years ago I would buy a new van for work Chevy Astro $11,500. Another one I had was $13,000. These were for trucks that made you money. It’s sick. It’s disgusting and this is how they want you to feel, and don’t ask who they are because I’m sure you know
I understand but a lot of every generation that is old are not broke. I had too much fun, I’m not saying I’m broke, but I can’t just buy whatever I want. I struggle just like you kids. I’m not even bullshitting. how’s this? I bought a house 30 years ago. Sold it move down to South Carolina made myself debt-free now I need a small loan to buy another home put 50% down. I’m being denied that’s bullshit. Homeowner for 30 years. I’ve bought and sold three homes in my lifetime they don’t want anybody to own a home or anything
All I see are people buying new HD trucks in our area. Look at Lithia Motors stock and earnings. That huge dealer isn’t hurting. People are just butt hurt that their paychecks didn’t keep up with inflation and praying for a crash that isn’t coming. Vehicles will just continue to get more expensive along with all the commodities which have been reinflating the last few months. Now the Fed may not even cut again for a year.
Suburban living is expensive and Americans are waking up to the fact that owning a house with 2 or more cars is becoming increasingly unaffordable. You're welcome to move to a city in one of the cheaper areas and use public transportation, or you can use inventive financial tools to try to pay for your house and two cars, but one is a solution and the other is an outcome.
Between all thew new cars being so poorly made and designed to barely make it out of warranty, no thanks. A local guy yesterday shared that his 6.2L 2024 yukon engine started rod knocking at 28k. The dealer yea there are 6 more in line before you to get to new engines, but more then likely you have to park it here for 30 days for lemon law to kick in and we are forced to buy it back. Nation wide shortage of short blocks apparently too.
It's amazing how the times of affordable vehicles have changed to the worst. The middle can no longer afford to buy a decent new vehicle. Looks like the middle class is going back to the old days, horse 🐎 and buggy. Lol
My wife and I wouldn't have been able to afford what we bought back in 2019 had I not been able to pay cash for our home. We didn't have the jobs we have now and weren't making near the money we are now.
It's been key to me living the life that I always wanted to live. If I want to buy a classic car or truck to restore I can, if I want a new truck or the wife wants a new SUV we can, if I want to go spend a week in Ohio or New York hunting I can, if the kids need something no problem. Being able to save, and pay cash for the house was a god send
Wrong. Boomers are absolutely buying these. I see old retired guys getting out of 2500 HD Denali trucks All the time. Its because all the 70 year old boomers have fat retirement accounts and pensions and they houses are paid off. They are the ones that can afford these truck prices. Almost ever person I see in town driving these trucks is old guys
@mkaestn My towns a small retirement fishing town, and I swore a saw a self driving f150 untill I drove by and saw a 70+ old lady behind the wheel not able to see over the dash. Tons and I mean tons of old timers with mint, white trucks driving around to go shopping during lunch hours.

What's sad is people who can't walk away and move on from pickup trucks. They're not even attractive when I see them on the highways. If you do work then write it off as a business expense and stop making them your identity.
Sorry but any moron that pays $40k+ for a truck deserves to be upside down a few years down the road when they try to trade in. I've been shopping for a truck for 4 years and haven't pulled the trigger. Only very recently have used truck prices come down a little. Ram will lower prices and it will force Chevy, Ford and everyone else to do the same. Patience is a virtue. For those who have waited patiently the time is near.
I'm 70 years old and I have never had a car payment never in my life... I have slowed my business down and we're down to four trucks.... In my town of 100,000 people it is well known that I will buy your truck for cash... People are crazy for renting money... Pay cash for your stuff you idiots... You'd never get ahead making monthly payments.

Thanks 🙏 for doing the peoples work ❤great job 👍
Thanks
Even if you buy one of these, the depreciation off the lot will kill you.
People who buy these don't think that way. So long as they can make their monthly they're good to go. Or so they think.
If you get a good deal the depreciation is very small.
If you plan on keeping it, you really don't worry about depreciation.
I’ve been in the market for a used 2023+ 1500 with the 3.0 duramax and a 6.5 ft bed for a few months now and they seriously will pop up for $55,000. For a used 1500. I just can’t fathom how someone would/could pay that much for a used half ton truck.
Prices can be LOWERED....I don't want to hear it....greed is prevailing over everything else....
By used, not even from a stealership. They add on the new add ones,I've noticed. So they recharge for stuff already paid for. Avis or hertz have good cars. I've had some good luck buying my last two cars thru them. Warranties are only for a year. Still better deals.
Do these 100k vehicles go to work for you?
I use to always lease. Not anymore. I can uber everywhere for 300$ a month where i live. No gas no insurance no 600 dollar payment.
I need a crew cab, last time a bought new was in 2015. I need to learn to shop smart in these times.
Yep it's important to get the deals
@Jason-Samko you videos are tremendous help, outstanding keep up the good work 👌
@urielrdz30 thank you
I bought many new vehicles 2019 was the last Vehicle I bought. They finally became to expensive to justify buying new.
The voice of reason in my head is telling me to buy a small Hybrid SUV. At least I could get a small win on fuel savings.
Yes especially if you buy two new vehicles.
And most family's are a minimum of 2 cars. With teen to adult kids could be 4 or 5 vehicles. Insurance alone is crushing
If cars are too expensive, why are yearly sales at all time highs? Why aren’t sales at all time lows?
That’s an extremely good question. Who is buying these and paying $1500 to$2000 monthly car payments?
People buy them. But can't really afford them. Repos at an all time high, delinquent payments at an all time high. Negative equity hovering at 10k
Those reports are bogus and bullshit, don’t believe everything you hear that they want you to hear.
The difference between A Chevy and A GMC is they use lock washers on GMC .Chevy dont have that option.
Those prices are ridiculous
Thanks For Sharing
saw a dealer just other day selling 24' silverado 4x4 5.3 liter 1500 LT for 44k....had about 10 of em all white
there are deals out there but you have to put in some time/ work to get it, no different than any other time
Can’t afford used either cost of fixing them once they take a shit after 100k miles lol!
Very true
i got a 2020 f150 and a 2010 f150, the 2010 is alot better truck than the 20, of course its paid for, almost got the 20 paid and cant wait to finish paying for this thing
I can afford a $50K vehicle. I just can't afford the insurance, I've checked.
Hopefully things don't get any worse.
Nope, I will keep my 2008 Toyota Camry and 2009 Acura TSX. Old but run excellent.
I like the custom and the stx but not for the prices. Totally crazy for a depreciating “asset”
Better built old boats are the best. Sound like a nice Panther.
Where do you suggest buying a truck from ? Or would you recommend waiting ? I’m not financing, will be purchasing it with cash.
No simple answer. But working multiple dealerships will show their true colors
Middle class doesn’t spend 90k on a fancy pickup truck
@@HaveFaithWV leasing is good if you get a great deal. Have to make sure the math adds up
My local GMC dealer contacts me twice every year to ask when I plan on trading in my 2012 Duramax. I keep telling him I chose to put the $1500/mth in my retirement account, instead of his. Nice guy, he gets it. 😅. I like this 12 yo truck more and more every year. When it breaks I fix it. It does everything I ask.
As long as people buy them why should the price go DOWN
I will drive my 10 yr old paid off Honda fit till the wheels fall off
I think it’s idiotic to buy a new vehicle, especially if you finance it, without a large down payment. Personally, I wouldn’t finance anything. If I can’t pay cash, I don’t need it.
There is just no way. I can't buy any of these. Gonna need a new 4Runner but they are also 50 60k plus . Can't do it
All a sudden a 4K fix is alright lol even 5k
Apparently people can afford it because the sales seem to be up on these vehicles
Jason , are you polish ?
@@michaellarson7572 on my dad's side
Jason, I hear that Dodge Ram prices are coming down in 2025. Would put a Ram 1500 well under 50 grand. Do you think the others will follow?
If one drops the others will too
Plus the taxes on the sale and taxes every year.
@@Magoo-1199 true
Nowadays people are leasing. At least for the first 2 to 3 yrs, then buy it when the lease is up if you want.
That works too
Really wish I would have gotten a suburban in 21 instead of my 21 Tundra now I can’t afford a $70k vehicle with tax interest that’s $80k
I’ll keep my 05 Tahoe haha
Yet Ford & GM sales are up led by their trucks
Smiths keeping up with Joneses who are chasing the Arnolds who want to be like the Fredericks who can't stand the Smiths.
Toyota is too
If middle class cant afford it. Then there is no need for tips. I'm just saying.
Nah, I’ll go 3 years used with all the bells and whistles.
All brands are having way too many problems
Truck payment hasn’t been 250$ since 1987
Yet I've owned 40 nee trucks and never had a payment about that until early 2000s
Truck prices will not be going down all that much with the new administration. They might stop climbing higher. But they will only go up not down.
We can't afford used either they want to much who has 35,000 for a 2 or 3 yr old used suv rediculous
True
It's amazing how the times of affordable vehicles have changed to the worst. The middle can no longer afford to buy a decent new vehicle. Looks like the middle class is going back to the old days, horse 🐎 and buggy. Lol
GMC is just a chevy with all the bolts tightened down
Lol
Minivan
My wife and I wouldn't have been able to afford what we bought back in 2019 had I not been able to pay cash for our home. We didn't have the jobs we have now and weren't making near the money we are now.
Paying cash is very nice
It's been key to me living the life that I always wanted to live. If I want to buy a classic car or truck to restore I can, if I want a new truck or the wife wants a new SUV we can, if I want to go spend a week in Ohio or New York hunting I can, if the kids need something no problem. Being able to save, and pay cash for the house was a god send
@traebishop3846 love it! Yep living debt free is a great way to live
BS, bought a 25 platinum tundra for 62 w/1.99 apr. Look around!
I don't think the middle class considers 62 good
Over priced and there's barely any middle income folks in America any longer to boot.
Retired boomer status symbol.
Boomers aren't buying these. Try a 35k Subaru. Keeping my 12 yr old.Duramax.
@mkaestn
My towns a small retirement fishing town, and I swore a saw a self driving f150 untill I drove by and saw a 70+ old lady behind the wheel not able to see over the dash. Tons and I mean tons of old timers with mint, white trucks driving around to go shopping during lunch hours.
Don’t blame older people I’m 62 years old I was born the last year of the boomers and for the most part we are broke
Ditto.
Where do you suggest buying a truck from ? Or would you recommend waiting ?
What's sad is people who can't walk away and move on from pickup trucks. They're not even attractive when I see them on the highways. If you do work then write it off as a business expense and stop making them your identity.
normal car is ford focus, toyota corolla, what you are showing is luxury cars
your right, the middle class is left out, only the rich and the poor class can afford it, lol
I'm telling your right now, give it a few months, and things will turn around as the new administration hits its stride. Just hang on, guys.
And when those Chinese evs come, the big three will be driving American car buyers right onto their lots.
