This was interesting to see. I grew up in Roan Mountain and going to downtown Elizabethton was always a treat. I no longer live in Tennessee, I just come back to visit my parents, but I remember some of these shops. Picket Fence has been there FOREVER, as has Ritchie's Furniture. There used to be a cafe called the Duck Duck Goose inside the Duck Crossings antique store, it had the BEST food. Was so sad when it shut down. There also used to be a little shop called Retro Toys that had ALL the old Star Wars, Transformers, and TMNT toys a collector could ever ask for, and some other fun stuff besides. I loved that place. Dunno if it's still there or not, but man, many mowing-yards pocket money was spent there.
I’ve lived here for 4 years and have had sooo many locals tell me about Duck Duck Goose. Everyone speaks highly of it. There’s a used toy shop called Retro Relics. Not sure if it’s the same place but it is a real throwback and has a ton of collectibles. I had to fight the urge as a 46 year old man not to buy the plush Alf. 🤣

It really is (although it’s growing pretty fast!). We have family in Hampton and moved here in 2020 to be closer to them. ❤️
