Oddwolf 799 GENERAL KENOBI
Season 7 made Maul's hatred for Obi-Wan make more sense in Rebels. Not only does he hate him for taking his legs and removing him as Sidious' apprentice, but Maul hates him because, in weird way, he was banking on Obi-Wan arriving on Mandalore instead of Ahsoka so that, together, they might have a chance to defeat Anakin and Sidious. Instead, Obi-wan ignored him and they lost the chance to prevent the rise of the Empire. Maul blames him for everything that happened to the galaxy after the Clone Wars.
And I think he's right to do so...
Obi Wan and Ahsoka both live long enough to realise Maul wasn't evil entirely and regret not listening/believing him before the rise of the empire he knew all the secrets and deduced correctly even more the only real reason Palpatine didn't kill him is that he knew that Maul was smart enough to put a deadman switch soto speak on anything he knew and beacon that info out through all the crime families who would unite against the empire for money and power that's if the Jedi didn't find him and even Sidious is reluctant to enter a fight of jedi , bounty hunters, rebels and criminals United against him
That's why he punished Maul another way
Which Maul just blamed Kenobi for anyway and well hes right.
You think maul would’ve tried to ally with obi wan? I interpreted it that he would’ve killed both obi wan and anakin but more importantly anakin
And in the end I think Maul saw that Obi was also another victim of Sidius, like him.
I really wish the prophecy of chosen one being Skywalker stayed the same. But Disney happened and everything is pointless now.
And thats a polt I wouldn't have expected from Disney. It gave me hope for upcoming Star Wars series or movies

Except for the Martinez sisters
Breaking bad
@@MrDogboy678 honestly the martinez sisters thing wouldn't have been that bad if it had been the first arc, then we'd gotten bad batch. But it was a step down over bad batch so it made season 7 feel a bit roller-coaster-ish instead of a steady climb in intensity. I rewatched the season the other day in that order, and it also works pretty well having bad batch afterwards because it builds a bit more tension with the ahsoka/Bo plotline since it doesn't immediately move into the arc that resolves that.
the25thprime yeah that would have made a lot more sense starting expand ending with Ahsoka. And hinting at the siege with bo Katan showing up. And then bad batch hinting at anakins fall.
Would you rather:
Lose against a 60 year old man or lose against a 16 year old girl?
Darth Maul: I've done both. *T* *W* *I* *C* *E*
Well, Obi-Wan was 25 they first time he lost to him, so...
Lachlan Reade I believe Ashoka was the more skilled duelist, she had held her own against grevious twice, not to mention that she was lethal with her two sabers. Her being skilled in acrobats gives a huge advantage. I believe Ashoka was the strongest Padawan, also maul lost to obi when he was a padawan, and Ashoka is much more skilled then obi at his padawan stage.
Maul Disarmed her 3 times, Maul the superior fighter. He was going easy on her because he wanted her to join him to stop Sidious and Anakin
Filoni himself said that Maul is the supirior fighter, he only "lost" due to his overconfidence and also because he wanted Ahsoka to join him. You should also consider the fact that he was tortured for weeks by Palpatine and Dooku, He saw his mother and brother die in a short amount of time and he is mentally unstable. Sam Witwer confirmed that Maul is in his weakest form while fighting Ahsoka and Ahsoka is at her strongest in TCW era and even with all this Maul clearly bested her and disarmed her multiple times. So I wouldn't consider this losing.
Maul was the master of form7 according to sidious. He also had the best physique among all force users during the TPM till his death, even better than Anakin's. Zabraqs are naturally slightly stronger and swifter than humans in the star wars universe. Plus clearly Maul didnt want to kill Ashoka, he wanted her to join him. She would be the ultimate physcological weapon against Anakin with the exception of Padme ofc
Maul: Creates entire plot to bring Obi Wan and Anakin to Mandalore.
Ashoka: Arrives instead
Maul: ‘Task Failed Successfully’
Disney: Rey is the strongest female character !!!
Filoni: Hold my beer ...
Panos Koronios Ashoka would easily won
Panos Koronios Ahsoka would kick Rey’s ass and burry it in the sand
Rey has become a joke.
PERIODT
Funny. Because almost everyone hated Ahsoka at first when Clone Wars The Movie came out. It took several seasons for fans to grow to love her like they do now.
Imagine Ahsoka’s reaction when she realized Maul was being truthful...
I think some part of her knew it was possible but didn’t want to believe it could be, just how Anakin didn’t want to believe Palpatine is evil.
@@macabre_mess I think there was no part of her that believed it. Not in this episode at least. Remember that something similar happened to her in S06 where everybody believed she was guilty and the only one who believed she wasn't was Anakin. And he believed her innocence 100%.
@@otakarbeinhauer I think she has doubt though. She doesn't believe it per se, but the way she looks at Maul who speaks with such certainty seems to show that she has some sort of shock. It's almost as if she convinces herself his "vision is flawed."
Probably the same as Obi-wan's when he realizes he had a solid few years warning about Sidious from Dooku.
We kind of SAW her reaction in Rebels when she, at last, realized who Darth Vader was. Needless to say, she was horrified.

When a group of amazing writers, directors, and stellar voice acting turns you from a one-off bad guy with two lines of dialogue into the most well-written villain in the entire Star Wars saga
(Aside from Vader, of course)
Honestly, I’d say that Maul’s got the better story, outside of the lore, because he was just a two-line villain that does one thing before CW develops him into such a fleshed out character.
Vader, however, had six movies in which he was one of the star characters, as well as Clone Wars where he stared in countless arcs.

The best thing about this how is that it makes the Clone Wars actually feel like a long war with many losses and wins, with no side really winning, with the end being filled with so much dread as you know it is coming to an end. And this battle is quite similar, because if Ahsoka has lost, Anakin would have never began his path back to the light side, as he would have never found her lightsabers on that moon in the finale.

Of course it is. The duels in the sequels suck
I don't think they can really be compared. The fights in the prequel era are focused more on cool moves and choreography, while the sequels' fights (Or at least Episodes 7 and 8's fights) are more focused on gritty realism. What I personally love about the fights in the sequels (again, excluding episode 9) is that the people involved genuinely feel like they're trying to kill their opponents or are desperately trying to survive. Also while the prequels undoubtedly have better music, I think the sequels have an edge in terms of sound design. The amount of skill it takes to come up with this choreography on short notice is insane.
Massive respect for Ray Park and Lauren Mary Kim.
Ray literally created a new fighting style for Maul to account for Maul’s new legs.
I’m absolutely in love with the move at 0:30 it just makes so much sense and is perfect for this fight.
The b-twist over Ashoka’s saber when she forces it back at 0:36 is great.
Lauren Mary Kim’s part at 0:40 is so good it’s just technically flawless.
The image of the window with the shape of Maul’s saber. The animators also doing their part with the poses and the entire set piece. Ashoka showing us how absolutely hard this is for her in her facial expression (after this particular clip of the fight) going against the likes of a master swordsman in Maul. Knowing that Maul isn’t even going completely all out in hopes to get her on his side which the whole story of Maul in this season is unbelievable, the fact that he was in the right and not wanting Kenobi...but Skywalker was SO good it gives me chills.
The fight on the beams after this was equally incredible and another amazing idea.
Maul YET AGAIN wins the fight. He had it, just cut the beam. But again, he let himself get too cocky just like in TPM and Ashoka rightfully took advantage of it. And to our surprise he was caught. Screaming “We’re all going to burn, We’re all going to die!” Perfect.
Truly the best fight in TCW and best fight period since the prequels.
Ashoka vs Maul is always something I’ve wanted to see and we got it.
I hope we get more Mocap fights in the future
Absolutely love your observations and review. One thing though, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe at 0:36 that Maul used a Corkscrew instead of a B-Twist. A B-Twist is when your body is parallel to the ground and your body spins in midair, like how Maul jumped over Obi-Wan's blade in TPM.
I just realized, even if she wasn’t part of the Order, this was her trial. She would be a Jedi Knight after this most likely.
Brandon Miller If she came back into the order at the end of season 5 instead of leaving after they falsely accused her, she would’ve been promoted to jedi knight, but she refused
The only way she can stay a Jedi is by turning her back on the order.
True. In the canon Kenobi uses a similar argument for Anakin, stating that his experience and victories in war count as his trials. Hell Kenobi himself was promoted to Knight for supposedly killing Maul, she CAPTURES him. What other Jedi can say they CAPTURED a Sith outside the Old Republic?

Lan Gnomes it is holy shit I they are moving so fast and fluidly it’s amazing
@@krovian990 It's not, while Ray Park did do Mocap, unfortunately the animators couldn't use it so they recreated his session by hand
I can't decide on whether "mother level" is a spelling error or not, but it works so well in describing the choreography that I want to use it in other sentences.
This scene makes the scene in Rebels where she meets Vader so much better, cuz now we know that she realized that Maul was telling the truth
The Duel of the Fates music puts the gravity of this fight into perspective. The fate of the Galaxy really does hang in the balance, but because of Ahsoka's loyalty, she doesn't see it yet.
This episode adds so much depth to Revenge of the Sith and honestly makes the movie even better. The fact that if Ashoka had worked with Maul they could have stopped Sidious and the rise of Darth Vader. It’s also chilling that Darth Maul has the most knowledge on what’s about to happen and has prepared extremely well despite his downfalls.
nah, even if they work together, Sidious can still destroy them.
Simon Wang What I am saying is they could help the republic from falling and even stop Anakin from turning. They probably couldn’t defeat Sidious in combat but they could have stopped his master plan.
@@smghero585 Not likely, I should think, for Anakin would well have turned before anyone of them returned to Coruscant. And then, Sidious was ever the master planner. It would not be surprising had his contingency plans been supported with more contingency plans.
This is supposed to be a movie and it shows. Unlike the other fights in the CW, the movements are a lot slower and less animated. They are more realistic.
@Spider-Flash it was motion captured
id prefer smooth and realistic instead of too fast to see what's happening
Spider-Flash true, but this fight had more moves and fighting style compare duel of the fates and this fight and you’ll see why Motion capture Asoka and mall could not go faster, and who knows maybe they did slow down lol
@@zaccarmean9091 smooth yes but its not really that realistic. Watch shadiversity's breakdown of light saber fights and you'll realise the chore here is a bit lacking. Probably not my favourite animated duel but definitely still up there (Ahsoka vs Vaders comes to mind as well as Obi Wan vs Maul/Savage)
That's why its great
Also to everyone it wasn't entirely mo-cap, they basically used the mo-cap animation as reference, not "plug-n-play"
This one lightsaber duel is only a minute long and it's far and away better than any lightsaber fight we got in the sequel movies.
And why do you think that is maybe because the fighters in the sequels either weren’t trained for as long or as well or they are just trying to lure one to join oh wait no sorry clone wars good Disney bad sequels bad go ahsoka we love you🥴🥴
One of the things that I love about Maul’s portrayal in this scene is that he’s described in one of the novels as moving like a dancer and not shifting his weight when standing still and the direction, mocap, and animation have all captured this fact perfectly.
This battle felt like I was watching the fights from the prequel again. Oh god the nostalgia. And people I don't care what you all say I love the prequels better than the sequels. And I love the fighting better than both the original and sequels.
Well prequels were immensely better than the sequels so there's nothing to be ashamed of. The prequels may have been flawed, especially in terms of technical production which had a clumsy aspect to it at times, but they had a soul, and an incredibly strong story arc and panel of characters. The sequels have none of these three essential things. People should stop sounding almost guilty like "im sorry but i like the prequels". Prequel hate was just an internet thing a few years ago.
I'm sure it was intended like that but the fights in the prequels... they're more like dances
@@Bayard1503 The prequels showed the Jedi in their prime. Lucas' idea of the Jedi is heavily influenced by asian culture and some asian fighting styles are based on strong choreographies, because fighting is also considered as an art. I'm sorry but i prefer very dynamic lightsaber duels that almost look like dances at some parts rather than dull boring fights like the sequels lightsaber battles where it looks like the saber is heavier than a double-handed iron war hammer, which makes absolutely no sense. Also, deconstructing the prequels duels makes you realize almost every single move is actually legit when it comes to actual fighting techniques. Deconstruct the sequels fights and you realize more than half the moves are totally nonsensical and illegitimate, and only fool the eyes of the spectator thanks to the filming, the speed and the production.
Frname Should I be ashamed for liking the sequels then?
@@frname7665 dont get me wrong bro i love the prequels and Revenge of my the Sith is one of my fav movies. But you cant beat The Empire Strikes back its the original...
Okay I know it’s mocap but it’s still so impressive like holy shit.
All my money for episode 3 remake in this style
nerfvideos96 Or, realistically, the opening of ROTS.
With the cw voice actor for Anakin. I care so much more about the cw Anakin than film Anakin. So much more emotion.
Lone wolf 4221 In fairness to Hayden Christensen, he had to do this journey from The Chosen one to Sith Lord within two movies, not 7 seasons of television. It also didn’t help that the script and directing wasn’t done well.
@@strikerecho2592 fair enough
dont ge me wrong, i loved the intense beat of the drums to be heard when they were dueling, BUT GOD DAMN IF ONLY THEY HAD USED THIS SOUNDTRACK ONE LAST TIME!
I feel like they missed out on an opportunity to put this song in for this fight cause tbh this makes it so much better
100% agree. This song is synonymous with Maul
These animations felt so different than in any other episode. Because it’s motion capture
Still animated by hand
@@diadokhoi5722
No, this isn't hand animation. It's all still CGI, they just decided to motion capture these episodes
Ügiustus Keiserus Motion capture isn’t quite that simple. While it’s a useful base, raw mocap data is never used in a finished product, simply due to how it’s captured. As with anything else captured in the real world and digitised - be it as a video, an image, a LIDAR scan, or motion capture - there is noise. That noise then needs to be filtered out before the mocap performance can even be used. However, that noise might have resulted in elements of the performance being lost. So with a lot of mocap data, animators need to come in and adjust things by hand, either to remove the noise, or restore motion that was lost due to the de-noising process, or even add motion that simply wasn’t captured to begin with, which can occur if any of the tracking points are occluded from the sensors. The end result is that while some of the original performance might be present in the final animation sequence, it only looks as good as it does because an animator has come in and made it look like that by hand.
Imagine how proud Obi Wan would have been of ahsoka if he had seen this battle
I think we are all a bit proud but only really bo katan was able to give her credit.
This is probably one of the best Lightsaber duels I've ever seen Ahsoka in, can't wait to see her in more Lightsaber battles
I love how they all have a distinct fighting style. Like maul moves the same way he did in the phantom menace, and Asoka move like she does in the previous seasons
I refuse to believe this isn't the offical battle scene
Why do you say that
@@jesserusso5455 original doesnt have duel of the fates
Anthony Cruz i think the music used for the original fit better with this fight. I didn’t think Duel of the Fates fit that well here.

Ray Park did a great job with the choreography. I want a Maul series now
The fight choreography during this arc was bloody flawless.
I hate that this isn’t the full duel, but I love how incredible it actually is. This needs to be put in the movies

I love how Ahsoka's style of dual-wielding uses a long sword and a short sword. It's a unique style of dual-wielding that you don't see often in media. The last time I saw it would be with Shunsui in Bleach, where he uses a katana and wakizashi.
Shinsui never really used it though cause dude was almost always in shikai if fighting at all. If someone wasnt strong enough to make him shikai he usual wasn't fighting them
In star wars its jar kai but with a shoto. Luke used this style against lumiya to counter her lightwhip.
@@magortom Well, he does use it against Starrk. He doesn't use his Shikai right off the bat against him. It's only when Starrk went into his released state that Shunsui did use his Shikai.
@Kevin Nguyen Agreed. Mostly cause we have a dominant hand, rather than being ambidextrous.
That's because it's a stupid form. Sorry ahsoka was stupid when she chose a shoto as a secondary weapon. Ventress is good at it, and it's just cooler.
The clone wars brought us some truly incredible saber duels. This included with the Sidious vs Maul and Savage duel is excellent
What’s crazy is you could tell how Ray Park was faster than the mo-cap people could handle so his moves looked almost slowed down and controlled. Yet still so powerful and intimidating.
What Ashoka lacks in physical strength is more than made up for in her acrobatic dexterity. Fast on your feet wins more fights than brute force
Precision beats power and timing beats speed. I like how she kept a level head despite being visibly exhausted after yeeting Maul though the window.
@@wilfred_ho I can't watch him fly out the window without saying YEET now
Oh! So you are a Dark Souls player? The "fast feet over strenght" are one of our mantras.
Their is actually an interesting topic about this duel. Both combatants are using the most aggressive lightsaber forms. Ashoka uses Form IV which is the “Acrobatic” form by using flips, kicks, and rolls and focuses on quickly overwhelming an opponent. Maul uses Juyo, which is a form that noted for its aggressiveness and unpredictable attacks. At this point, both could be considered a master of their forms, so this battle was really cool.
Unless you start getting cocky. *laughs in Mountain vs Oberyn*
Why do I feel like this is the most badass lightsaber fight ever.
Its deffo a good fight....But Maul vs ObiWan on Tantooine was best...well, IMO.
Yeah, Maul vs Kenobi was nearly all fought before they ever swung their sabers. That part was just the resolution of their battle.
@@terranceaskew3165 you mean de 3 second duel with just 4 moves, yeah im sure that "fight" is betten than this one
@@juanantoniopizanavalenzuel6879 The length of a battle, does not necessarily determine how great it is or will be.
What made the ObiWan vs Maul Battle so great, and really, the greatest in SW, is that it was filled with tension; a battle heightened by two ancient foes, one protecting the future of all force users, and another twisted by pure revenge.
And though it was short, it showed a breadth of emotions.
Of course, it was only possible by a character that we both probably regard as awesome in his own right...and no matter our opinions, he is being touted as taking part in the greatest lightsaber battles, in SW cinema.
Anakin vs obi wan on mustafar would always be the best imo, then Sidious vs Savage & maul then this.
this one fight was better than all fights in the sequels combined
Obviously look at who’s duelling
You thought that you had something that even resembles a point, didn’t you?? This is literally during the Jedi Order, Maul was trained by Sidious himself and Ahsoka was trained by the Chosen One. When it comes to combative skill, IT IS SO CLEARLY OBVIOUS AND ESTABLISHED that neither Rey nor Kylo Ren are even of this calibre, partly because the sequels weren’t also set during the Jedi Order era. People clearly have difficulty differentiating between these two very different eras and so have very similar expectations of the fight scenes. Stating the obvious just makes you seem incessantly annoying and pedantic
you mean "This scene is better than all of the sequels in every way, combined"
U would think Disney would have enough money to get good lightsaber fights, but the sequel fights were just embarrassing even if Rey and Kylo did not train as much.
