I think a good idea for these type of lists would be to create a Letterboxd list for people to then use to track their watches and log them! Keep up the great work
Hi guys not long discovered you and making my way through your vids. Thank you for this list. After the 80s. Video where I had seen 97% of the films listed I was grateful for this list where I have only seen 10/15% of the films listed so now I have a place to start on a new decade 😁. Thank you again
Anthony says “you’ve never seen a film like it before” so much I swear to god this mf has never seen a movie before in his life All jokes aside you guys are awesome
Anthony confuses another Werner Herzog film with Aguirre: The Wrath of God 😅. Unsubscribed! Fitzcarraldo is the Herzog film about the struggles of pulling a steamship over a mountain. Herzog and his crew really did pull a ship over a mountain while making the film and ironically many of the same struggles that plagued the characters in the film also afflicted the production crew. Literal example of art imitating life. Les Blank made a fantastic documentary called Burden of Dreams about Herzog and his crew’s exhaustive undertaking making Fitzcarraldo. It’s one of my favorite documentaries and highly recommend anyone that has watched or plans to watch Fitzcarraldo, to watch Burden of Dreams after.
My 70 (so far) Claire's Knee - Last Tango in Paris - Klute - Life of Brian - Halloween - Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore - The Wicker Man - Smile The Sting - The Exorcist - Serpico - Stalker - Paper Moon - Julia - Alien - Mean Streets - Opening Night - Walkabout - Invasion of The Bodysnatchers - Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia - Dersu Uzala - Carnal Knowledge - Bad News Bears Day For Night - Don't Look Now - A Clockwork Orange - The Rutles: All You Need is Cash - The Heartbreak Kid - Get Carter Close Encounters of The Third Kind - Scenes From A Marriage - The Enigma of Kasper Hauser - McCabe and Mrs Miller Amarcord - O Lucky Man - Ai No Corrida - Annie Hall - Cabaret - A Woman Under The Influence - Nashville - Days of Heaven The Tree of Wooden Clogs - Network - The Parallax View - Midnight Express - The Man Who Fell To Earth - The Conformist Lenny - The Killing of A Chinese Bookie - The Godfather part 2 - Performance - All The President's Men - The Last Picture Show Chinatown - The Lacemaker - Cries and Whispers - The Godfather - Deliverance - Barry Lyndon - The Spirit of The Beehive The Conversation - The French Connection - Apocalypse Now - The Deer Hunter - Aguirre Wrath of God - Five Easy Pieces Badlands - Taxi Driver - Dog Day Afternoon - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Great list boys, Taxi Driver at 1 for me but no complaints. Nice to see Aguirre get some credit (although you've slightly confused it with Fitzcarraldo). My only additions would be Get Carter (1971), The Candidate (1972), Scarecrow (1973) and Watership Down (1978).
Unless I missed it, I didn't see any Hal Ashby films. He had a perfect decade (The Landlord, Harold and Maude, The Last Detail, Shampoo, Bound For Glory, Coming Home, Being There)
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ that would make my year! Save time by just making the list on there before doing the pod make it public after it’s uploaded?
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ In his bio Michael Caine was asked what his favourite film of all time remember he is 94-95 years! He wrote “All that Jazz” also explained why!
Huh? No Valerie and her Week of Wonders? No Black Christmas? Belladonna of Sadness? The Night Porter? This is rigged! Jk 😜 nice list! There’s some movies in here I haven’t heard or watched yet.
The 70s in film are very interesting. The artists of the time stand on their own, but the confluence of factors made it what it was. The floundering of the studio system gave this new generation of directors carte blanche to unpack radical ideas in a post code cinema that integrated a wealth of new filmmaking techniques from around the world, and brought them straight to the American mainstream many times. I'm not one to often fall victim to secondhand nostalgia, but it really was a pivotal time. You could make a movie today that is just as good as Taxi Driver or The Godfather, but it still wouldn't be as groundbreaking because you just can't recreat that cultural zeitgeist. It's lightning in a bottle. Edit: Suspiria is not Giallo, UNSUBSCRIBE
No Blazing Saddles or Slap Shot? Take off Barry Lyndon and Eraserhead and replace them with Blazing Saddles and Slap Shot and you will have the best list of 70s movies. The 70s are not arguably the greatest decade for film it definitely is the greatest decade for movies.
This episode helped me decide to see Network today instead of rewatching Fargo for the first time in a few years. I want yous both to know that I do not forgive you. Unsubscribed!
