The best crime film of all time. It's not even close, there's zero competition. Perfection.
💯💯
I did see Heat for the first time in a theater. Something I am eternally grateful for. At some point I hope they screen prints of it at neighborhood legacy theaters we still are fortunate enough to have. Like the Uptown/Landmark theater, where I saw The Piano, Train Spotting, Boogie Nights, The Wild Bunch and Citizen Kane on a rainy afternoon. Sat right next to the projection window so I could see the lense pattern hitting the screen.
@@willdenham so cool!
Ton Loc completely steals that little scene in the club🔥 can't get enough of it
Pacino and De Niro are generational acting talents. These are 2 performances that not only will stand the test of time because of how great they were, but will be studied for years to come because how impressive they truly were. Great insight and deconstruction on the film gentlemen.
Thanks!
The amount of people who don't know this film is criminal. Pardon the pun.
Heat is a masterpiece.
Legit
No human being has ever looked cooler than Val Kilmer in that shootout scene.
For real
Al Pacino
Joe Pesci
Harvey Keitel
Robert De Niro
Jack Nicholson
all 5 of them are the best actors of their generation they all are
Agreed
Great list, and it's great Pacino and Nicholson got to work with Scorsese in The Irishman and The Departed, respectively. The other three had many projects with Scorsese, all five collectively in these films, make up so many amazing performances. And so many outside Scorsese films, like Pacino and De Niro in Heat, Keitel in Bad Lieutenant, Nicholson in The Pledge, to name a few, I think Pesci's best performances were in Scorsese's films though.
I know everyone except Harvey Keital
I watched heat a few months ago and I have been listening to everything related to that movie and I am really enjoying this episode.
Thank you for this episode and I would like you to do a new episode about heat 2 either for the book or when the movie is released.❤
Glad you enjoyed!
Christopher Nolan interviewed Michael Mann about Heat(1995) in a Q&A
Best Heist movie EVER!! Saw the movie in theaters when I was a kid. When that shootout happens in downtown LA, I thought the fillings in my teeth were going to rattle out. 🤯
That’s so cool!!!
Looking forward to Heat 2, just hope the casting and performances will come through, and do justice to the original. At least Mann is at the helm though, I think it will be high quality, the book was fantastic, especially in the "prequel" sections, getting to see Neil and his crew in action. Also, in the original, so many things to talk about how great each film component is, but the sound component, not just the realistic sounds in the shootout and other scenes where guns are fired, but the original score by Elliot Goldenthal, and the rest of the soundtrack, and how Mann uses all of these pieces of music in the film, is huge in regards to the character and greatness of this film. I disagree what you said about the scene with Neil and Eady at her place, overlooking the city, think it definitely has stood the test of time, the whole movie has, in that particular scene, LA is the backdrop, is a character in itself in the film, but we are focused mainly on these two characters, the dialogue, the performances, and De Niro delivers a fascinating line in that exchange that is directly related to Heat 2, which is related to his back story, but i don't have a problem with that scene at all. The acting, Cinematography, music are all top notch, I think the look in those shots, the composition, draws focus to the characters, and is important because this is the beginning of Neil's deviation, becoming involved with someone.
There will never be another *HEAT!*
Let sleeping dogs lie, man.
This movie so fire. I'm about to put this on when I get home. I think this is mann's best movie. Im still convinced if people think deniro plays the same roles or Scorsese make the same movies, they don't understand anything about cinema
I thought that Waingro and Roger Van Zant are two of the most unlikeable characters ever
Wait until you see the antagonist in Heat 2 when it's probably released next year in cinemas. After reading the book, as crazy as it sounds, he makes Waingro look relatively tame. This new antagonist is about as deplorable as it gets, does things that majorly impacts some key characters.
Percy from from green mile and captain Vidal from pan’s Labyrinth say otherwise.
Woop woop! I saw Heat at the cinema in England back in 1995, the single most incredible cinema experience I've ever had in my life! Close second was Die Hard with a Vengeance the same year. Can't wait to listen to this! Thanks!
That’s amazing!!
Manhunter(1986) introduced Hannibal Lecter before The Silence of The Lambs catapulted him into superstardom
Heat(1995) is in my Top 5 favorite movies of all time
What’s your top 5?
1:23:31 William Freidkin had similar bad cgi with Tommy lee Jones in The Hunted
regarding Grand Theft Auto V drawing inspiration from Heat(1995)
Trevor Philips is based on Waingro
Lester Crest is based on Kelso
Periodically, I want to live in 90’s LA
I thought both Al Pacino’s and Robert De Niro’s performances in this film was better than their performances in the godfather.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Know this movie word by word
Same 🙌
I’ve had this in my watchlist for a while but never got around to it yet. Definitely will check it out and come back to your review after!🤘🏼
Awesome!
Tom Noonan even appeared in Manhunter(1986) as Francis Dolarhyde/The Tooth Fairy
This movie is a classic and a huge part of my childhood I remember seeing this on the TNT channel as a kid.
Sam here!!
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ awesome !
Great review and breakdown, fellas! It's hard to point out the flaws of this film. Especially against the green screen, zero soul films we get these days.. just watching it over again recently I don't think Eady and Neil's love really works as it's so rushed she seems nuts for sticking around but I'll take that over focusing too much on it and lack the tension and action built by the rest of the cast and story! Definitely a film that deserves as much praise as any in the genre. 👍👍
Thanks so much!
I disagree they worked perfectly fine
I just watched this over the weekened for the first time ever, so great timing, but I couldn't help but think Nolan was inspired by the opening heist scene. All I kept thinking about was the opening heist in the Dark Knight. Awesome movie.
Absolutely 🙌
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ Not me at the 11:38 marker where you made that exact point lol smh, great minds think alike

😂🙌
Did you like the original Open Your Eyes?
@RandyWhite-e6t i do! I didn't even know about Open your eyes until about a year ago. I do think Vanilla sky is better in every aspect though. Vanilla sky is the first movie i ever saw that made me really feel something and still to this day it pulls on those heart strings.
@ I doubt vanilla sky is better than any aspect to be honest
@RandyWhite-e6t well I respect your opinion
Grand Theft Auto V draws inspiration from Heat(1995)
I agree that Michael Mann’s an underrated director and he’s in my Top 15 best directors
Michael Mann has never been underrated
Also, if De Niro doesn’t deliver your pizza in 30 seconds or less, is the Pizza Free??? 🤔 🍕 🔥
🤣🙌
Hardly.
The greatest drama/crime film ever made...
Couldn’t agree more.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ my thoughts exactly.
the night skies look real just like The Thing(1982) and Jaws(1975)
Loved the tactics used in this film
