  • Nogi (Without a gi on) is becoming very popular. You will either find a school that trains only nogi, or nogi classes will be offered. Nogi is great for a faster pace as you can't hold on as long as you could with a gi grip, and so you have to be smart when grabbing your opponent. I recommend training both gi and nogi to supplement your training and to create more variety in this sport you enjoy.
REMEMBER: All these nogi grips work when someone is wearing a gi!
    Nogi Grips:
    Controlling The Arms: (00:00)
    Underhooks: (03:43)
    Controlling The Legs: (07:21)
    Controlling The Head: (09:39)
Controlling The Head and Shoulder: (11:54)

"Shout out to my American friends" lmaoooo. As a blue belt who is coming back from 3 years off due to a hip surgery this playlist is great because I've forgotten so much! I've actually seen you two at Van Isle for a leg lock seminar years ago! Training in North Vancouver now though :)

Fantastic. Starting to transition into No Gi classes more as a blue belt. It's def tough since most of my game has revolved around sleeve-based guard work. The 2 on 1 Grip makes the transition easier since I use a variation of it in the gi.

Really enjoying this series. My coach sent me a link to the playlist, saying that anything on it would be gold, he wasn't wrong. Still got a lot (i.e. everything) to learn, but this is a great aid to that. Thanks.
