- OH MY GOD. Did you see that movie?!? Oh my GOD. YOU REMEMBER THAT ONE PART?! I remember that part. and they did the THING
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Like you said I absolutely loved how they depicted Maria. She wasn’t this perfect near flawless individual. She was a kid. A kind hearted kid who was the first to look at Shadow not at this scary thing but rather a potential friend. Everyone else in this movie who first saw shadow their first reaction was shock or anger, hers was to smile and reach out. So when she is taken away that pain is truly felt.
Plus they took good time in building her and Shadow’s relationship
honestly it was the best part of the movie and i needed more shadow
Honestly yeah. The scenes they added with her gave us a proper idea of what her personality was. She was a kid and a mischievous one at that when playing with Shadow but also seems to truly love outer space. Also, it was interesting how she reacted when she first saw him. That her first instinct was to laugh at his scowl and draw a silly face over the glass. It shows a lot about how she doesn't judge and her playful personality we didn't really get to see before.
Honestly I preferred the movie version of her for that reason, that she felt like an actual character instead of solely a motivation piece for Shadow like she kind of boils down to in the games.
I really loved her scenes with Shadow ngl, they were cute as hell.
Honestly, I agreed with your Gerald Robotnik take until I got to the end of the movie. Because the second he goes “You’re no Maria” is the second it all clicked for me; that is, that everything he was doing was just a ploy to get his revenge. He was broken and insane, we just managed to see him in action in the movie, while in the games we only saw him for a few seconds in his manic state
Yes a
YES! That one line changed EVERYTHING.
It’s a shame he went back to fighting Eggman like a goofball after that. It kinda undercuts the “I was acting like that to trick you” thing, but it was definitely there, and it was a pretty interesting take on the character I thought.
Yeah. I liked this version of Gerald
Sonic 3 reawakened something in me that I thought died years ago
Damn Sonic is awesome
That's beautiful
Was it a penis?
Literally going through a Sonic phase after watching this movie. I haven’t gone through a Sonic phase since I was 12… I’m 21 now
I booted up my Dreamcast, and played Sonic Adventure 2 again after so many years. 😊
You never leave the Sonic fandom. Not permanently.
It yanked me back into fantasizing over OCs again, and now I'm interested in the IDW comics.
Sonic the Hedgehog walked, so Sonic the Hedgehog 2 could so run Sonic the Hedgehog 3 could FLY.
This movie is absolutely BONKERS in all the best ways. What a time to be a Sonic fan.
The absolute comeback Sonic has had in the 2020s is something to be studied.
Sonic 3 didn’t fly…
IT TURNED SUPER AND AIR SKATED
Sonic 1 walked, so Sonic 2 could run, so Sonic 3 could fly, so Sonic 4 could *GO TO THE MOON*
the first movie was good
the second movie was great
the third movie is awesome
the forth movie better be outstanding
and the fifth amazing
And the fourth will blast off.
@ 4 will piss on the moon
One thing I wanna touch on is how instead of the whole "If I kill you I'd become just like you" schtick that movies, especially kids movies like to pull it's more of a "By sparing you, I prove that you can be just like me" which makes far more sense for Sonic's character and also hearkens back to a similar exchange Sonic had with Scourge in the Archie comics
"A little bit of decency... and you'd be just like me"
@@silentnight6810 "I, I..." I love that scene.
One of Archie's best scenes. Sonic saying what he did was him basically flipping that on its head.
Yeah, because Sonic had no problem with killing Eggman in the second movie. It's more that Sonic was losing himself in his anger and acting out of revenge. What happened with Eggman in the second movie wasn't revenge.
@@matti.8465 To be fair, in the second Sonic movie, he still didn't try to kill Eggman right away. Only after Eggman STILL tried to attack Sonic, Sonic fought back and basically let him fall to die.
In comparison to with Shadow, Sonic immediately went after Shadow, straight up ignoring the eclipse canon because he was so enraged and out for revenge. It's very different.
My theater was mostly calm throughout the movie, but as soon as Amy showed up in the post-credits scene, we cheered wildly. It was beautiful and I will never forget that night. Toot toot Sonic warriors!
Same. I was in a theater full of mostly kids and their parents, with it being silent throughout most of the movie’s run. One kid wanted to leave right when the credits rolled, where her mother had to stop her so she wouldn’t miss the post-credits scene.
But once Amy appeared, a few kids did get excited, and then questioned if there will be a Sonic 4.
I wanted to scream so hard at the post credits scene with both metal and amy, that was amazing
Same, but for me the light up started up when Metal Sonic Terminatored himself into the film
Same here. As soon as Amy pulled down the hood, the theater clapped.
Same, everyone clapped
Truly the perfect way to end the year of shadow
you know what?
HELL YEAH
Agreed
Absolutely!!
The year of shadow?!?!?! Bro you should copyright that name it’s sick tbh
@@johnmartinez6864 That's what sega themselves have been calling this year
Super Sonic vs Super Shadow nearly made me jump out of my chair and spill my drink. The punching across continents with Sonic dang near warping to Shadow and comboing him, the POV shot from space, Sonic punching Shadow to the FREAKING MOON and nearly killing him? It was just so…cathartic. Seeing Sonic become so serious and menacing just felt…right. Also, Shadow knocking the emeralds out of Sonic, Knuckles-style, Sonic actually winning the fight for the most part, everything about it was just breathtaking. And it wasn’t even a curb stomp battle from either side, they felt equally matched.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, they just felt SO powerful in those scenes. Like, we know how powerful their super forms are, but something about the movie made them feel more powerful? I don’t know, it’s hard to explain.
I just…LOVED IT!
god dude I gotta go see it again
@@huntarbates2814 well, if Sonic X counts, they did fight in “A Metarex Melee”(and the Japanese intro, technically). It was pretty brief, but it was still a fight
@@RelanTheManyeah but this fight was way better imo 😭
I think the fight between Sonic and Shadow is the closest that we got to what dark Sonic would be like had he gotten more screen time.
Yeah, it's crazy they let Sonic show emotion
You gotta respect their commitment to never changing Metal Sonic's design. Modern, Boom and now movie-verse he keeps the same peak design.
If they are feeling spicy, we might get a Neo Metal but Metal stays consistently classic.
Part of me wishes it had a more mature look cuz Metal fit younger Sonic more, but it fits movie Sonic well
You can't change perfection
@@TakatoCell
Ngl i kinda don't like the fact that he looks exactly like game Metal, feel like he needed the monoeye
This movie really saved this year for me. After losing my grandma and my great uncle, my sweet boss getting diagnosed with terminal cancer, and almost losing my house, my husband taking me to see this movie on opening night really lifted my spirits. I got super into the Adventure games during the lockdowns of 2020. Those games kept me preoccupied and prevented me from going insane. I’m so happy how far this franchise has come and I hope that when I become a parent, my kids will be able to enjoy this amazing franchise too.
I sincerely pray that your heart is filled with peace in the coming times, my friend. Despite everything, I believe God has many good times coming for your life, and they may come sooner than you expect! Happy holidays, God bless ya and Jesus loves ya! New times lie just ahead!
My favourite part of the movie was when Shadow turned towards the camera and said how much he loves me and then dabbed.
22:46 Considering?
Sir. This man straight up said “We have our orders.” I’m pretty sure he had already made up his mind
I saw someone theorizing on Twitter that Metal might be a contingency plan that Robotnik put in place in the event of his demise. It kinda fits the character if you ask me.
I’m hoping for a sonic heroes route for the character (robot gone rogue) but with a sonic cd plot
I can see that. (Through I can also see him make a ai of himself as a contingency as well. Would be a smart way of having eggman without Jim carry.)
That's some Dr Wily type of plan.
What I heard before watching the movie is that The Chaotix were gonna unearth Metal in a post credits scene. It turned out to be wrong but Metal still showed up, so I’m happy.
I think people need to understand that movie Sonic has always been about family first and foremost. It's been about finding where you belong, and that theme can work extremely well for Shadow! Canonical Sonic being all about always moving forward and never looking back is great, but there's no issue with the films tackling a different theme and message with these characters.
@blackfox4138 It's just superhero movie writing
@@galten7361Yeah. And?
@@galten7361
Canonical Sonic just doesn't work for good writting, he is great, but too stagnated, and his personality only works to develop other characters, sonic himself can't be developed as he is in the games.
Also, just super hero movie writting? How weird, it's almost like this is *suposed* to be a super hero movie.
I saw fire in the second post credits scene and yelled out "Is that the Flames of Disaster?", and I heard someone chuckle
nice to know someone in your viewing actually watched the knuckles show lol
@ThunderSlasher_Official I watched a little bit of it before but I never got the chance to finish it. I heard that joke though, and it's hilarious 😂
This movie had me in FRIGGIN TEARS OF JOY. This was a gift wrapped Christmas present for all Sonic fans. I loved every single second of this film and I cannot WAIT for the fourth film to release soon!
Spring 2027 for the 4th movie, so it's got a bit of a wait. But that just means more time to cook up something good...
@ you bet. I can already imagine how flooded the theater is gonna be for that one, probably just as much as the third one was if not more.
34:58 Maybe it was the lighting, but I could've sworn the first Metal Sonic to appear was blue and the others were white, which makes me think he's the leader.
I think the same, I just got out of the theaters
My theory is that sonic 4 will either represent the CD saga or the Heroes saga, but as shadow comes back in the post post credit scene, i guess it gotta be heroes the next, which also means metal overlord will come! 🔥🔥🔥
@robson8b567 honestly, I think it's gonna be both.
youre right, there was a Main Blue one and a bunch of Grey ones.
Emperor Metallix.
Funny story, the credits of this movie ACTUALLY made me think of you. I remember you saying you wanted to see a classic Shadow sprite, so when the credits used Saturn style 3D models instead of sprites I wondered if you were disappointed.
Not at all, Sonic the Fighters style is always welcome
@@GameApologist very true, although it is a shame that this still means the only time Shadow ever appeared in sprite form was in Sonic Battle, and that game used modern style instead of classic
@wakeangel2001 he was in advance 3 too, but same issue
@@scrunkoreShadow was in advance 3?
No he isn’t
Honestly, the scene of Sonic and Shadow talking on the moon and just...relating to each other's pain...is my favorite moment from the movie.
Yes, it is a bit of a repeat of the scene from the second movie.
BUT...
It still hit all the right emotional and thematic notes it needed to, and in a way that I'd argue is done even better than in the game the movie is based on.
More importantly, I feel like the conclusion of that scene - where Shadow chooses to defy Gerald and stop him from lasering the Earth to death - does a better job of making that choice feel like a very conscious one on Shadow's part.
To elaborate, one of the criticisms I've heard about Shadow and the way he's written in SA2, is that he sometimes feels like he lacks real agency; That a lot of the things he does kinda come off as less him making active decisions, and more him sorta stumbling ass-backwards into choices that were kinda made for him. And I have to admit that I kind of agree with this critique.
This movie, by choosing to streamline much of the extra fluff - and more importantly, keeping most of the interactions between Sonic and Shadow specifically - not only ended up making Shadow's decision to save the planet feel more like *his* decision, but I think also ended up inadvertently planting that seed of showing how and why Shadow will likely come to really respect Sonic as both a rival and an ally, and in a way that really makes that clear to the audience.
...All this is to say: Yeah, Sonic 3 is a damn fine movie.
Maybe it doesn't *quite* hit the same highs as the second movie, but still more than holds its own.
If ya haven't seen it yet, I'd strongly advise giving it a shot. At the very least, I'm sure you'll be very entertained.
I think the moon bit also just…works so well closing off their fight given what Sonic was actually trying to do. I feel he never really hit that point with Knuckles. Tails getting hurt in S2..Sonic mainly took that as his own fault, but he seemed aware Tails would be fine. Shadow hospitalizing Sonic’s father figure and first Earth friend, where it’s questionable if Tom would survive? Putting him pretty much exactly in Shadow’s place made that moon bit hit so hard for me.
And fully agree on how it really lets the decision to change be Shadow’s, no memory manipulations, no suddenly remembering what she truly said. But hearing a better way to work through the pain. Those two lines were great, imo: (paraphrasing..) “No one wins with revenge” and “Their light still shines even though they’re gone”
I cried at the moon scene. I didn't care if it was the second time they did that. It hit close to home. It's just insane that I'm even saying that sonic 3 made me cry but it did.
Metal Sonic and AMY FREAKING ROSE existing in the post credits scene leaves a distinct possiblity that the ARCHIE COMICS UNIVERSE CHARACTERS ARE COMING TO THE BIG SCREEN.
Which leaves open the possibility that ROBO-ROBOTNIK COULD COME TO LIFE and Jim Carrey wouldn't have to keep doing the role as he is loathe to do sequels.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HYPE FOR MORE SONIC CONTENT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
I was so happy with the post credits scene. They've been pretty faithful to the characters in these movies, so I look forward to Amy using the threat of Metal Sonic as an excuse to be clingy and annoying to Sonic.
What'll be interesting is if she's from the future too, and I'm pretty sure she is. That gives her an excuse to know a lot about Sonic's historic deeds, but not a lot about him personally, so we can watch their relationship develop.
Honestly, I’m kind of nervous about how they do the next film. I don’t know how Metal can be a threat anymore, because Amy killed like 10 of him with one swing. I feel like they wouldn’t go the Neo Metal route, so I can’t be sure where they go from here.
@@BaconHairDefaults You're not wrong! However, I do think, since there's a bunch of Metal Sonic, that they will lean into some upgraded form (even if it isn't Neo Metal). Either that or they'll just use sheer numbers. We'll have to wait and see! They've done a pretty good job so far, so I'm hopeful.
@@BaconHairDefaultsAs a lot of people have pointed out, in that scene there’s a bunch of gray Metals, and one blue Metal, leading many to believe that the blue one is the “real” one and the others are weaker copies
@@Mechanicalamity My problem with that is, just by the way the scene is naturally lit, it is VERY hard to tell if they’re blue or gray. After reading your reply, I looked it up and played it at .25x speed, and I genuinely can’t tell. If you’re right, I think that could actually work very well.
I'm not so sure about the "annoying" and "clingy" part of Amy showing (since we've seen Sega's removal and change of that since Forces and Frontiers), but I am REALLY hyped to see something like Amy being from a future where Metal Sonic has invaded all and eventually leads to Silver (or maybe Blaze?) showing up for the next few movies.
I guess they really decided to LIVE & LEARN.
I’m pretty sure Junkie XL was replaced, or his involvement was minimised. The soundtrack seems to be a lot better than the first two, actually using the songs from the game.
the music in the movie was actually so spot on compared to the other two. I still can't get past the weird sudden rock music during Knuckles and Sonic's fight at the temple. It's so...sudden. Here when music suddenly starts, it feels more fitting. Such as the live and learn moment.
Junkie XL composed all the music for this movie, and he always wanted to use songs from the games. What actually happened is likely that Jeff Fowler loosened up with his restrictions a little.
I don't think so. The official album on Spotify is under his name, and he's the only name under the album. So it looks like he did the music himself.
Pretty sure junkie xl did the live and learn rendition in the movie
@@AceHufflepuff Dunno if you know this, but it’s for a reason. That song isn’t from Sonic 2. It’s a reused song from Ant-Man and The Wasp. It’s very strange.
They tackled the very complicated story of shadow pretty well. They cut down some of the confusing or odd ins and outs while still leaving room to expand on his lore. As a fan it can be easy to forget this will be millions of peoples first introduction to the character and dont want to alienate them
Sonic crushing on Amy instead of the other way around could also be a call-back to the old manga with Nicky. That said, if Eggman's truly dead, then who made the Brotherhood of Metallix in this universe?
@johnnygyro2295 It can be the Black Arms/Black Doom. The movies already established Shadow just fell off the Black Comet one day. There is nothing requiring Metal to be modeled off Sonic alone rather than just the hedgehog race. It makes an easy way to get Shadow right back into the plot and not write Eggman as the obvious villain after 2 movies with him playing that role and the 3rd one where he aids the greater threat only to learn he's just a pawn. Not to mention already doing 3 movies where Sonic faces a "dark mirror" (Eggman in 1, Knuckles in two, Shadow) with Metal not really having a characterization in line with how they write villains.
@galten7361
I don't know. The Black Arms feel like they'd be saved for a Shadow spin-off...
@@johnnygyro2295 They aren't going to include anyone else as a non-Eggman villain who'll actually be the big villain of the post-Shadow movies anytime soon.
@@galten7361
Like I said, the Black Arms could show up for a Shadow spin-off. If Eggman's truly dead, then I'm interested to see who created Metal Sonic in this universe. Maybe Lyric gets another chance in the spotlight?
I don't really hate how they handled Gerald, but I do wish they could have done it differently.
When he goes fully mask off at the end, I wish he could have stopped with all the wackiness and just been completely dead serious. I know Jim Carrey can do serious roles, he could have done very well with a Gerald that's written like that.
Instead, after he already says he's going to destroy the Earth and die along with it, he proceeds to continue with the comedy even as he fights Ivo, using a giant nano-hand (that he says was gonna be used for a cosplay as Green Lantern 2011 at Comic Con) to spank Ivo like a disobedient child.
The lack of dignity that he has in most of the movie is what really gets at me, and it's the only real complaint I have.
They did Gerald pretty dirty, the only good part was when his eyes were full of tears at the death of Maria, everything else was sillyness which downplayed just how dark and broken Gerald was right after her death in the games
@yourcollegedebt8384 It's Marvel movie villain writing. Just look at how Ultron was written in his movie.
@@fadadioX I thought the "you're no Maria," was a really good line. But yeah, overall, I do wish a little bit that Gerald had been more somber or serious.
@@galten7361
Fake Ultron fan exposed. Ultron’s characterization in AOU is dead on.
He’s a deeply emotional being driven by fear and arrogance, which he gets from his creator.
The avengers cartoon was the thing that fucked him up.
Made sense to me considering who his grandson is
Seriously a movie hasn’t made me so hype in a long time. The latter half of the movie is probably my favorite piece of media in a long time if not my favorite of all time.
I smiled my way through the whole entire movie.
I almost cried when I heard the Live and Learn song, knowing I played Sonic Adventure 2 this year. The movie was literally everything I wanted as a Sonic fan and personally, an amazing birthday gift for me.

I was ultimately fine with it, but the one big criticism I had with Carey's Gerald was that, after revealing he wanted to genocide the entire planet (himself included) he should have remained as sombre as he seemed at that point and in the flashback that followed. Snapping back to standard wacky Jim was a hell of a whiplash, should have just has that aspect of Gerald be an act to lower Robotnik's guard imo.
He’s manic. It’s how he copes with his plan. “Don’t think about it get crazy, get angry, they deserve it”
I’m actually going to be excited for the Sonic and Amy dynamic in the 4th movie. I do agree that Sonic might have a crush on her, and could be embarrassed by Tom and Maddie like Parents would do, but I think that relationship between the Hedgehogs must be written well and must be part of the story in some way
It could be like Mario movie where there were a romantic relationship hints to Mario and peach.
I’m definitely up for a crush swap. As a Sonamy fan that’d be fun to analyze and give the notion that Movie!Sonic is more in touch with his emotions as well. Amy could be more standoff-ish while still growing to like him. Either platonically or romantically I’d enjoy it either way.
I generally hope he does not. Sonamy fans are already fucking annoying. Sonic and Amy becoming canon will make them more annoying and any future Sonic discussion unbearable. I will never get the hype for Amy.
@@chamila249 Movie!Sonic shouldn't have any of Sonic's core dynamic with Amy at all. Game!Sonic doesn't care about being a hero/would blow off a policeman lecturing him on responsibility/wouldn't think he owes anyone anything if he doesn't care and more importantly avoids Amy since he finds the notion of actively settling down or compromising himself for others repellent. He avoids Amy since she's a girl so tries to push marriage and children while he's the ideal boy so he's says no to that.
The movies' Sonic writes him as a furry version of DCEU Flash or a PG Deadpool or Starlord and doesn't really see the world and his life the way Game Sonic does (namely since Game Sonic doesn't think the world needs a full time hero for it and helps as he goes or when it's amusing rather than run around stopping bank robbers). Movie Sonic already pretty much is written to show a nuclear family with a picket fence in Small Town America as great so that alone is a major difference.
@@chamila249 True
1:15 - I wouldn't even say that Sonic 3 relied on nostalgia.
They streamlined the film well enough so that general audiences could follow along without being overwhelmed. Moreover, the many references to the video games were treated as easter eggs rather than important plot points.
I love your points on the biolizard. It’s not a character but more so the physical representation of the pain, suffering and vengeance that Gerald and shadow feel. In sa2 shadow facing the biolizard is him defying that hatred, fighting the very monster he became, not a dangerous experiment, but a tortured soul consumed by rage.
It’s not needed in the movie because as you said Gerald and shadow encompass that, Gerald’s rage is in the saggy flesh. The only thing that I would’ve changed about Gerald would make it more apparent that the goofiness was just a facade to manipulate Ivo and once he reveals the truth it tears away.
The cutaway from live and learn to the slapstick comedy fight was just kind of stupid and a more serious fight between eggman and Gerald could have been used.
Shadow on the other hand didn’t need the biolizard fight because the super sonic and super shadow fight acted as that realization for him. Instead of facing the mirror image of the monster he would have become if he stayed on the path of vengeance he tries to pull sonic on that path, asking him to kill him because at this point the plan is finished and he has nothing left to live for.
Instead sonic acts in place of Amy and becomes the one to relate to him. In game the biolizard was his true moment of clarity after Amy triggered his memory. However shadow didn’t need some fight against Gerald or the final hazard in the movie because his defiance is opening up to sonic and helping him stop the canon.
The biolizard was just a physical way to show shadow abandoning revenge but sonic works just as fine especially with the parallels established from the movie.
The only parallel I feel was missing was sonic being entirely a natural being compared to shadow being lab made. They had something similar with both of them possessing powers and being taking advantage of over them. With the ones they love suffering for it. I feel the core of their dynamic was really good and changing that more deeper parallel was fine because they replaced it with one that fits in the context of the movie.
We got to see Super Sonic and Shadow fly around in space while Live & Learn plays on the big movie theater screen. It's all I ever wanted. I can die now.
Wonderful review!
What I also loved about Sonic 3 the most (other than the 100% best animation and lighting from any of these films) was the subtle details. Like Sonic almost crying over Tom before immediately switching into blind rage.
Shadow being able to smile and play off Sonic near the end and seeming to be less stoic.
Tails standing up to Sonic multiple times. A person he’s viewed as a role model. The little guy had a back bone the entire film and I was so proud of him for it.
Not to mention Knuckles putting himself between Sonic and Tails to protect the fox. You could tell Knuckles grew from the sequel and told Sonic he wasn’t emotionally well enough to have the master emerald. Knuckles recognized the signs and reacted accordingly.
All of the neat character moments or emotional range we rarely see for these characters were presented perfectly well and I enjoyed every second of it. Can’t wait to watch the film again to find more!
We have
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3 .... And knuckles
And fuckels
Saw it with my girlfriend. We had a great time and at the end something happened I haven't seen in a long time, a round of applause for a movie. I take that as a sign a movie is doing something right. Also my goofy sonic brain melted at metal sonic.
23:12 alright funny thing, a child in my cinema yelled "Yay!" When Maria died. Funniest shit ever
Someone understood the assignment
Shadow and Maria's relationship was essentially the meme of a brooding character looking up at the rain while the other silly character sticks their tongue out drinking it. She's kind and innocent, but by no means a perfect goody-two-shoes. She had an air of sass and mischief that made her interactions with Shadow more humorous but still very endearing. It's a shame there wasn't more cute little adventures with them.
Also that popcorn scene was just pure hilarity.
To put it simply this was the best time I've had at the movies in 2024, and honestly I cannot get over the portrayal of Maria and Shadow in this movie, absolutely incredible!
In my eyes, while shadow was angry, I got a sense that he was also a little bit apathetic, like he didn't have too much feelings to keep him going.
Like he was driven by grief yes, but not the drive to stay alive, just a drive to complete his goal.
That's is while Shadow lost his super near the end of his fight with Sonic. There wasn't much to keep him going.
Absolutely adored this movie, had this biggest grin on my mouth the entire time. A lot of the jokes nailed and hell I even liked the DANCE SEQUENCE of all things. So many little easter eggs throughout such as the Sonic Heroes flying formation and SEVERAL musical ones (I loved the E.G.G.M.A.N. theme for Ivo's ringtone). I was also blown away by Keanu's VA performance. I thought after playing the DLC for Shadow Gens it would be very monotone and lackluster, but no! You can feel some raw emotion and passionate anger in his deliveries. Overall I couldn't have been happier with this movie, they really did hit this one out of the park.
"Had this biggest grin on my mouth"
It's honestly amazing the glow up Sonic has had as franchise in just the last 5 years, I came in around 2014 just after Boom had come out. Don't think I could go back in time and explain to my kid self how big he is now, even bigger than he was in the 90s?
idk I wasn't born yet
Whoever edited this is hilarious lmao, you speaking about eggman sacrificing himself and the footage being of him humping a tree
That’d be me, thank yoooou!
Bro the fact I read the comment just before it happened 😭 God bless bro
I’m glad you let yourself enjoy this movie man, like you said it’s a celebration for the fans and it’s a more than well made movie.
We all fs have our gripes but man, we have an adapted version of one of the most loved Sonic games on the big screen!!
At this point, I have seen this movie twice. THIS is how good it is. It's super fast, and I just wasn't able to take it all in one viewing.
The ONLY issue I have with this movie is that Paramount spoiled too much in the trailers. I loved seeing the departures from the SA2 plot, which was very surprising. For a lore purist, I actually liked the portrayals of the characters... MORE than in the games! We have no stupid Knuckles here. No cowardly Tails. No spotless-perfect Sonic. No ridiculously edgy Shadow. I loved the characterizations, and even the humans were done well this time (by not having nearly as much screen time as in the previous 2). 10/10.
@mikdan8813 "a superhero movie with furries is more accurate to how the characters are supposed to be than the actual games"
Are you just going off fanfics or stuff like Archie or just repeat takes from reddit and tumblr and Musk's Net? When was Sonic in the games not a paragon who always win in the end and come out on top over Shadow with other rivals or be who others need to learn from since he knows what's best for what's important (let alone how he doesn't actually care about being a hero or protecting the world/small town out of duty/responsibility)? Knuckles was never supposed to be Worf or a Warcraft Orc or Piccolo Jr and was always goofy with Eggman easily setting him against Sonic. And Shadow was always an "edgy" character who was never supposed to be Batman or Benedict Cumberbatch.
The moment Metal Sonic popped up, everyone stood up. My little brother was happy to see Metal Sonic on screen and my god Metal looks so good in live action. My brother’s reaction to Metal was something I won’t forget because he loves playing Sonic CD. I got excited when I saw Amy cause she looks very good in live action. And honestly I can’t wait to see what role she has in the movie. Kinda something very important like they did with Peach in the Mario movie.
Sonic 4 is absolutely going to adapt CD & Heroes at the same time.
I’ve been a Sonic The Hedgehog fan for the longest time and I gotta say that 2024 did the franchise justice. Whether it was attending the Sonic Symphony concert to watching Sonic 3 everything was back to back banger.
To your point about potentially seeing Silver sooner rather than later, I wouldn’t be surprised where instead of him coming from a future destroyed by Iblis, he would come from a future destroyed by an army of Metal Sonic’s (basically really lean into the Terminator reference). Which would honestly give him a more legitimate reason to go back in time and destroy Sonic. Destroy the guy that “inspired” whoever created Metal Sonic, future saved right?
A name I see thrown around to be the next big bad for the series is Neo Metal Sonic, but I also honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they bring Jim Carrey to portray Eggman Nega. He’s already been Ivo and Gerald, might aswell have him be Eggman Nega also. I’m sure he’d have the acting chops to play ANOTHER version of Robotnik.
I like the idea of bringing in Eggman Nega. But as he is in the games, he's not that different from Eggman. So I think he would have to be the literal opposite of Eggman. If Eggman appears again as a villain, Nega should be a good guy. If Eggman appears again and stays good, Nega should be the good guy who turns evil. Jim Carrey is also getting up there in years so if he should ever do a cameo, he could come back if they ever did a storybook type movie where he isn't a villain. Just some dude who looks like Eggman.
Having no city escape was absolutely criminal for this film. But other than that I deal with not getting a real adaptation of SA2. Jim Carrey offered top tier schlock in the greatest ways possible!
(MAJOR SPOILER ALERT, DONT READ IF YOU DIDNT SEE SONIC 3 (2024)
One thing I LOVED about Sonic 3 (2024) is how it explored very dark and mature themes of grief, trauma, the cycle of hate and revenge, and how emotions and feelings can twist us into monsters. Also, seeing Sonic vengeful against Shadow expands upon Live and Learn as a song with additional context, and it also complete the theme of hate and how this is a cycle that continues as long as anger feeds it. It feels like a rewrite of Sonic Adventure 2 and they NAILED IT.
Better than The Last of Us 2. Sonic becoming vengeful was so much more effective because he's never known for being like that, he was never willing to threaten his own friends to have his own revenge against anybody.
Gerald's rage and insanity were disturbing and it showed just how far gone he was. Shadow broke the cycle even though he perpetuated it by putting Tom into a coma. Sonic kept the cycle going by giving into his anger, nearly murdering Shadow for hurting Tom.
Also, Maria's death scene was excellently done, it's so heartbreaking and the added detail of Walters and the GUN soldier struggling made it feel more real. Also, the fact that Maria died in front of Gerald and Shadow becoming filled with rage afterwards was so dark. Seeing Shadow filled with rage in the present-day thinking about her death was done so well.
the movies not being 1:1 adaptations of the games is great imo bc i loved how streamlined this version of SA2 was. it also gave us the opportunity to see shadow's reaction to being sealed away for 50 years
in the game we saw shadow's reaction as he gets jettisoned to earth, but we never see him as he's captured and placed in his capsule. the movie's version of events lets us see that and it is WONDERFUL. the look of fear, horror, and betrayal on shadows face as he's placed inside the tube as it began to fill with liquid is palpable, and the way his expression shifts to anger and resentment as he's completely enveloped is sooooo good. from being treated as nothing but a test subject to be studied since his arrival to earth, to having the one person that treated him like an actual person being taken away by his captors, THIS was the point shadow broke. this final act of judgement placed upon shadow through no fault of his own cemented his desire for revenge. as soon as that capsule finished filling up shadow already decided that someday, somehow, he'd get out and make humanity pay. the 50 years only kept the pot boiling
This Movie was a God send and the fact theyre talking of bringing the Chaotix into the Franchise feels like a dream. As a long time Sonic Fan, and a Chaotix boy 1st, I am glad this movie is doing well and opens the realm of possibilities
I wonder if they will keep him like how he originally was in chaotix. A stylish dude believing in god…and wants to strike it rich (they retconned his good Christian boy side in future releases)
Predictions for Sonic 4:
-Eggman is fully dead, the main antagonist is some variation of Neo Metal Sonic using classic Metal Sonic drones as foot soldiers
-Neo Metal is operating from the future and is trying to get his hands on Sonic for some reason
-Amy may or may not be a time traveler, but is definitely trying to make contact with Sonic to help beat Neo Metal
-Silver will travel back in time on his own mission to stop Neo Metal, but under the belief that killing Sonic in the present is how to go about it.
Hopes for Sonic 4:
-Amy comes from a colony/culture of anthropomorphic hedgehogs and the movie will be about Sonic (and possibly Shadow) exploring the roots they never knew they had.
-More lore on the Owls and how Sonic ended up in Longclaw's care
-Main antagonist is another surviving member of Longclaw's tribe
I think that Amy will be from a tribe of hedgehogs, and Sonic will have to choose whether to go with her or stay with Tom
They can’t die Neo metal Sonic because we need Shadow and Chaos. And Chaos has already be briefly shown in the background of Sonic 2 underground master emerald temple. The seem to be doing Sonic CD of they get Amy and Metal together.
@@MarxistClownism meh. They've already established that they’re willing to skip atound with the order of events for the movies. They went straight from Sonic 3 straight to Adventure 2 and are just stsrting on CD
Sounds pretty accurate, to be honest.
I think they might save Silver for movie 5 and focus on getting Amy down with stopping Metal Sonic from invading the past and conquering it, pushing back to the "Bad Future" where he belongs; only to THEN have Silver come from an even distant future where a great titanic battle occurs between the Metal Overlord and the world which causes him to try to eliminate the cause of it (leading to a Sonic '06 "Destroy the Iblis Trigger" scenario).
Nonetheless, it'd be great to see Silver for movie 4, but might take some time for people to fully wrap their heads around that's happening.
I think we're gonna get Metal Overlord for the climax, which in this version will probably be all the Metal Sonics combining themselves with Neo Metal
I just got back from watching sonic 3 and seeing you have this video now made me very happy. Love your stuff!
I like that shadow let sonic win because he felt guilty about Tom.
Best of the three, great heart, and definitely made me feel like a kid again at times. Most importantly, my own kids loved it.
Just walked out of AMC theater with my shadow head band shadow cup and shadow popcorn tin and I get to listen to this on the drive home awesome timing Nick
i just wanna say i'm super glad you're still consistently making videos (i haven't watched any sonic content in like a year)
you're a great youtuber!
Thank you so much!! That’s an incredibly lovely thing to say!
I'm not sure if it's the lighting quality, but, SUPER SHADOW WITH THE PINK GOLD AURA GOES SO HARD!!!!!
33:31 I could see movie Sonic being the one with the crush, but I think it would be a more fun dynamic if Amy returns Sonic's feelings, and the poor boy has ZERO idea what to do when a girl likes you back. Lol
I think that would be a cuter concept, personally.
Yo, a couple minutes ago I searched this up because I watched the movie today and then a few hours later you post this my God crazy how life works like that
PS that wasn’t a classic shadow. Are you paying attention to the eye color? Also, isn’t it suspicious that they didn’t do it 2D style
Regardless of my issues with Sonic 3 (especially the horrible pacing of the first act)… it was very clearly a labor of love by those who made it and I am grateful.
Can we all give hats off to Jeff Fowler? Dude went from working on CG cutscenes in the Shadow The Hedgehog game, to bringing that character to life on the big screen.
Seeing Shadow portrayed as a real character again is so refreshing after how he was treated in the 2010s. He’s so much more than just the cringe ‘edgy the hedgy’ memes.
Praying to eventually see Team Dark in some fashion :)
@CakesWarden Shadow's actual game characterization hasn't changed in any notable way post-06. He's still terse and isn't friends with Sonic but has him as his rival he'll pull one over on and has Rouge with Omega as his coworkers/comrades and isn't fond of mankind and brutally insults his opponenents.
Just got back from seeing sonic 3 and it delivered. Keanu did shadow justice. This trilogy has reignited my interest in the franchise again. I’m excited for what the future holds for the movies along with the games.Long live team sonic
This movie is everything I could have hoped for and holy shit there is going to be a big budget Hollywood movie with metal sonic, That is all I need!
couple of things that stuck out to me;
1 - Robotnik mentioning not getting around to 'cloning' agent stone...? i think we could potentially see eggman again (provided Carey is on board for sonic 4 but only time will tell!)
2 - i feel like we were missing some kind of huge plot about G.U.N; the main dude talking about not trusting anyone... and yet we never sort of saw anything that would explain WHY he was so paranoid? even the 'big mean' new gun commander was... just... not wanting to let the eclipse canons cardkey end up in ANYONE elses hands? feels like some side story got axed but i don't think that's necessarily a bad thing- just curious as to what they had planned for it-?
3 - with the appearance of metal sonic, Amy, and shadow surviving... could sonic 4 be some kind of sonic Heroes adaptation~? they'd probably drop some elements like the chaotix... most of Amy's team... but we have pieces in place for Metal sonic being the penultimate bad-guy? maybe its to much of a haphazard script to adapt into a movie but i mean, elements are there? (this is offcourse assuming they don't write something wholly original)
also just want to say the minute that live and learn leitmotif hit, it punched me all the way back to 2001
weirdly there was a rumour of a chaotix spinoff at some point which could flow into a heroes adaptation, but I'm not so sure about that one lol
@@scrunkore oh snap actually i do remember that! and i mean, 2 years is a lot of time to move something like that out :o
@MilkshakeSkunkette They wrote G.U.N. that way since they were both trying to have them be somewhat like their Adventure 2 role and play on the wider "military or government characters be antagonists to heroes" but without going too far in attacking the American military/agencies. Pretty much how the MCU does it. We'll continue to see single characters in G.U.N. or aligned with be antagonistic or incapable but otherwise won't see them be a major antagonist.
@@galten7361 i get that they wouldnt likely make them a major antagonist- but they really went out of there way to make the director weary of some kind of traitor in there midst with the whole "dont trust anybody" sorta thing... only for there to kinda be no real reason for it in the final flick~?
like id kind of been expecting robotnik to have like a mole in there, or some crazy power-hungry character like the new director? just feels like something got cut to me xD
Eggman cloning himself could also open the door for someone else to take the mantle if Carrey is definitely finished with the role. It could be an "imperfect" clone or something like that.
For me seeing super sonic and super shadow blast through the gun robots with live and learn blasting in the background brought the biggest and dumbest smile on my face
For as much as I was fanboying over just how unashamed of its source material this movie was, I was utterly blown away by Jim Carrey this time. It felt like he was truly let off what little leash he's usually kept on and Sonic 3 was the movie he was born to ADHD his way through in peak absurd fashion. My earliest movie memories are of that man doing his thing, just like Sonic doing his with games and this was as much peak Jim Carrey as it was peak Sonic.
So i actually really liked Gerald's portrayal in this movie because he plays along with Eggmans goofiness until the scene on the eclipse canon where he says "You're no Maria" and reveals he was just a manipulative maniac. Also i thought the woman in the military joke was more so a joke about him being old, and i also thought the delivery was hilarious
But even after he reveals he was just using eggman, he STILL acts goofy (by spanking eggman) which I think is stupid. After he revealed his true intentions, he should have STAYED serious
24:00 Eggman...please stop.
33:59 I am glad that I am not the only one who thinks Neo Metal Sonic is reason why there are multiple metal sonics
@Fnaf160.10 It's the Black Arms.
@galten7361 the black arms are not involved in this in any way
That could be it!!! A Metal Sonic from any future (bad future, heroes, etc) who is tired of losing to Sonic goes back in time and sends copies before Sonic is fully the adventurer he could be. Could be why Amy is already confident. Could be how Silver comes in.
Time travel could also be a way to bring Eggman back from death too, even change the actor if needed. Maybe Agent Stone is the one looking for the Time Stones (heh) to bring back the Doc, and finds some blueprints for a metal sonic to help him. Idk, could work!
I immediately recognized how unapologetically evil Gerald was and realized that we'd never actually seen, and I mean *really* seen, Gerald after he fell into madness. At best, we got a long monologue about how GUN robbed him. I like how very early on, it's established through a subtle line that he's well aware of his own insanity. He's gone off the deep end, knows it, and still intends to act on it. I personally thought it was to the movie's credit that it barely showed any proper kindness from the mad doctor.
Tl;dr- I wouldn't so much considerate a different take on Gerald as opposed to a "what if" on him: "What if Gerald was alive to execute his revenge himself?"
Or not idk
I"m just a kid
I'm glad no "Cap That Kid" campaign you put out their Nick was over!😊
praying for metal overlord to appear in the big screen, that would be sooo peak
"JAMES SHUT THE HELL IM IM TRYING TO RECORD"
That made me burst laughing hahaha
I have friends that dont care about sonic (that i may or may not have dragged to the theater) and they actually liked it, which to me means that non sonic fans can actually enjoy this, not just people that played SA2
As an older Sonic fan who grew up with the 90's games as a kid, something about the cinema experience (I saw it this morning) was just the absolute joy of seeing the younger generation getting to experience the wonder and excitement. Now while obviously my focus was of course on the movie itself, there was an incident that pulled me out of the movie in a good way.
The scene in the Chao Garden restaurant when the live show happened, my eyes were suddenly distracted when in my lower preferable vision just below the screen I noticed all the kids in the rows in front of me just spontaneously started bobbing their heads from side to side to the music. It was adorable and it made to smile to think of these kids having such a wonderful, formative, experience at the cinema, just as I did with some of the Disney resonance movies.
Also at the end of the movie when the credits started to play, 2 young kids ran down the isle and just started dancing in the space between the front row and the screen, it was just so wonderfully wholesome.
100% going back to see it again, this time in a slightly different format, the cinema in my city offers 4D screenings and wrap around screenings. I'd been meaning to try those out at least once anyway so I might as well do it for Sonic 3 since it was always my intention to see the film 3-times anyway.
1st to just experience raw
2nd to focus on details now I am not distracted by having to follow the plot
3rd to think about more critically, both what really works and what doesn't
Also I really hope I've done my part to get even more sales for this movie, I'm not trying to toot my own horn and looking for complements but I work for a local council children's social services, like a lot of councils, run a scheme where children from struggling families can get anonymous Christmas gifts from council workers. I picked a family with 3-kids, and 8-year old boy, 11-year old girl and 12-year old boy and along with a bunch of other stuff I got them a Switch with a bunch of games including Sonic Mania and Shadow Generations along with a Sonic baseball cap for the 12-year old (along with a Mario one for the 8-year old and an Animal Crossing one for the 11-year old) and a family cinema voucher. So with the 2-Sonic games, specifically Shadow Generations, I'm crossing my fingers the family go see Sonic 3 as I want the film to do really well.
Between Sonic 3 and Deadpool and Wolverine, I'm not sure which is my favorite movie of this year
Sonic 3 had me forget about Deadpool and Wolverine
This movie is genuinely awesome, and the fact that it is beating a Disney movie is INSANE!!!!
I honestly my favourite out of the trilogy, it got the basics done in the run time, nice action, incredible character dynamics between all our favourite furies, I like that Tom and Maddi had a good amount of screen time with feeling tacked on and in a way that actually serve the narrative and Sonic’s arc in the movie, Jim carry being more and more Like eggman as these movies go on (all be it still more Jim Carry-afied), how they streamed lined and altered shadows story while staying true to the spirit of his character, actually game music AND THAT MID CREDIT SEEN!!!!
9/10
While I loved a lot of the easter eggs in this movie, I was a little disappointed that nobody said at the end "Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog."
There’s a song in the soundtrack titled “Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog”!
Apparently they went with the original Japanese dialogue which was "adiós, shadow the hedgehog". And at least they used the OST from that scene "event: the last scene"
@phonesjuda7318 I did notice during the opening minutes of the movie, there was a brief glimpse of Maria playing that ending song on an acoustic guitar.
@@Morgil27 some people say she was playing live and learn. Event the last scene played out while Sonic and the group were making the cake, before the last race
@@phonesjuda7318 No, I'm certain she was playing Event: Last Scene.
I loved this movie when I saw it yesterday. From Shadow breaking out of his prison, to Gerald and Ivo's family bonding, to the Super Sonic vs. Super Shadow battle that ended with Sonic *_punching the Super out of Shadow,_* to the finale and stingers... A-plus, 10/10 movie for me.
Not gonna say too much because I want to comply with keeping this video discussion positive. I will say I wasn't as entirely blown away and screaming "PEAK" as most people I've seen are. You're right about Jim Carrey's Eggman being a make or break because I felt it was a bit too much here. Mainly for Gerald. When we entered the final act and he dropped the mask I was super excited to see the real Gerald...but then he got right back to being goofy. Would've been more effective I think if literally all of that bonding with Eggman was acting to get what he wanted. Not a fan of getting two seconds of Live and Learn only to cut to Jim Carrey spanking himself lmao!
But I did enjoy myself. You briefly mentioned the scene so I want to say that the part where Sonic is ready to fight Knuckles is one of my favorites in the movie. I thought all of them gave great performances there.
I agree there. Too loose a leash for Carrey, they should have done the fight between the Robotniks more seriously, but it is what it is.
I still had a blast watching this, and basically just accepted a while ago that these films aren't going to be exactly like the games with their lore and all.
I think Gerald was portrayed as good as Eggman was, Gerald was always supposed to be an Eggman parallel even in the game will Eggman had no family who cared about him, Gerald had a family who did and that was taken away from him, making him evil, while both in the games and in the movie Eggman is becoming a better person and a good guy, in the movie he even sacrifices himself, while in the games he saves the world multiple times( after ruining it but still) incense Eggman keeps his goofiness while making his change from villain to Hero it makes sense while Gerald would keep his goofiness while making his change from hero to villain, remember, Gerald would always bring Maria around so he would have to have at least a little bit of a goofy side in him, to keep her entertained before Shadow came along.
@@omariwashington2570 "while both in the games and in the movie Eggman is becoming a better person"
No. Eggman is a still a villain in the games. He is supposed to represent mankind and mankind still pollutes and wages war etc. so Eggman can't change overall.
This film was fucking peak man. Everything we wanted as Sonic fans was delivered on. Respect to Shadow, acknowledgement of the darker stuff, Game accurate suit Eggman, LIVE AND LEARN! And the after credit oh my god I flipped when Metal Sonic showed up, and then Amy too. Metal looks so fucking good too oh my god! I am so ready for whatever they are cooking for Sonic 4… also perhaps a Shadow series of him trying to find his place on earth? I do wonder if Eggman is truly dead, I mean Metal had to come from somewhere, so who’s to say Eggman wasn’t nuked into oblivion but instead flung into the future. Also little thing you didn’t touch on, but Shadow in this came from a meteor that look a little like the Black Comet, so the Black Arms are most likely being set up or at the very least considered to be future antagonists and I can’t wait for that. Sonic fans have been feasting this year and I am so here for it!
While it had its ups and downs, I LOVED THIS MOVIE! Making differences, but also remaining true to their cores!
I’ve seen some people complain that they changed Shadow being created by Gerald, but I’m good with it. Honestly, being a direct adaptation to SA2 was something that bothered me in Sonic X. If Sonic and his friends were from another world, why create an anthropomorphic hedgehog? How did the Eclipse Cannon use Chaos Emeralds? That made no sense. Here, he’s just another alien, but with arguably more chaos abilities. Now, with the inclusion of other hedgehogs, I feel like this might give us a chance to finally explore more of not only Shadow’s past, but Sonic’s as well. I feel like there could be a real reason Longclaw raised him in hiding outside of the echidnas.
AND THAT POST CREDIT SCENE! I was so happy seeing Meta Sonic show up, but when I saw that hammer, I FREAKED! Amy’s entrance could not have been any more amazing! I love the twist where she’s the one saving Sonic! Having her as the adventurer feels like it could be a good setup for having Sonic want to explore more. And hey, even without making Sonamy a thing, I like the idea of Tom and the others teasing Sonic about Amy. It’s funny.
@NightFuryLover31 The movies will just make Sonic something like a Kryptonian.
4:19 Thank you for showing me I had no idea that was there
Amy rescuing Sonic from Metal Sonic is a neat twist on their introduction.
I imagine they would pair Silver and Blaze in a similar way.
@noob_jr_2sjrkc "Watching Fanon/IDW Silver"
No.
YAY!!!! Love this video! I also really enjoyed this movie and my favorite part of the movie was Super Sonic fighting Super Shadow since it was rare to see Sonic this angry in the movie franchise! Can't wait to see the fourth movie!
I find it SO Funny & Weird that EVERYONE like "Oh, are they going to show Maria getting shot & such!" when (from what I remember) Adventure 2 itself didn't even have the Balls to directly show it, only Shadow 05 really did!
i was just happy to see sonic finally taking itself seriously again. i appreciated the movie's confidence and how unapologetically it screamed to the audience that it was a sonic film. not a buddy cop, not a roadtrip, but a sonic movie. the score was even less generic and made more references, which was a breath of fresh air. simply a magical experience for sonic fans. hearing crush 40 in a theatre, even if it was only for a few seconds, was one of the best moments in this entire year for me. wonderful movie. i can't wait to see what's next.
As a Sonic fan whose favorite character is Shadow, and whose favorite game is Sonic Adventure 2, I really liked Sonic Movie 3. My only complaints with it are very minor things or things I kind of wish were in the movie but weren't.
Just came home from watching it; loved it!! And the post credits sequences made me excited for what’s next!!
Speak for yourself. I saw both movies and I enjoyed both of them. I so enjoyed seeing my favorite black hedgehog on the big screen and also I love how much love Tails got in the movie. Also the SA2 quote was amazing.
What makes this movie so special is that sonic has been on a nearly 20 year losing streak. Sure there will be good games like generations, colors, unleashed but they all come with a caveat (the game is too short, didn’t like the warewolf half, etc). Then we get a movie and the design for sonic is horrific. But then something special happened, for the first time Ive ever seen in movie history they redid nearly the entire movie for the fans. They truly didn’t have to, the movie makes money from the kids who will see just about anything. That was purely out of passion for the project. Now this is the culmination of it. A celebaration that the movies made it this far when everyone doubted, that the 20 year losing streak was turned into a trilogy of genuinely good movies, and this one just went above and beyond. Everyone makes fun of edgy shadow with the gun and the bike, but this movie took it with stride. Gerald was always seen as kind of an odd choice that the movie could easily skip, yet they turned him into nearly the main character. Maria’s plot is a lot for a kids movie, and no one would have been surprised if it was toned down, yet they went leaned into it all the way. The dumb fun dbz battles from sonic fan projects were brought to life. Overal this movie just feels like an absolutely love letter to anyone who has held on during the rough times, the pure dissapointment year after year. Also tack on the amount of IPs that seemingly do the opposite and spit in their fan’s faces for a quick buck. Such a breathe of fresh air to just have fun at the movies
24:15
Ive said this before, but i love that after it seemed Tom died Sonic just didnt give a FUCK anymore.
He skipped the pretenses and any shonen buildup and just went "gimme the fucking emerald, Shadow has to DIE."
And then seeing Sonic have almost a panic attack with Shadow yelling "do it! Kill me! You won!" and Sonic lowering his fist was so powerful.
In my cinema, we were 5 people, 3 of us were friends, and almost each cool scene we cheered (my friends arent fans of sonic and haven't seen the previous movies)
23:59 Eggman what are you doin- AYO
As someone who gets overwhelmed easily, Gerald and Ivo being on screen together got me very overstimulated (too much jim carrey!) When the laser dance scene hit, i just couldn’t take it anymore lol i had to close my eyes i was straight up losing my mind!
That being said, the human scenes were way better than the last one. They all serve a decent purpose, and don’t halt the story in any way. I mean even the Gerald and Ivo montage had purpose; It was all set in a virtual reality, nodding toward Gerald’s lack of true love for Ivo. I loved this movie.
Don't even think this is Eggman's final demise for this because just like Sonic 2, the movie is trying to fool us again by thinking Eggman's dead again because Jim Carrey claimed he isn't gonna retire nor is he done with these movies yet (except when he is doing this for raising a salary but still). He'll definitely b coming back for more.
Super Shadow we kinda knew happened after this past summer with the McDonald's toys leak on Twitter. Then the fight between the supers was just in the cartoons.
I was so excited to see your reaction to the Metal Sonic’s. Can’t wait to see what they do with that!
My biggest fear with the next movie is that they'll do the same thing to Amy that they did to Princess Peach in the Mario movie. I just know they are gonna strip out certain aspects of her character that don't meet certain "modern standards".
My fear is Sonic simping for Amy to please Sonamy fans.
@@zerofudou5689I actually wouldn't mind that, it fits with movieverse Sonic. He is very much a kid growing up and learning about life, and we've all had crushes growing up.
@Morgil27 You need to actually play Mario games rather than go off memes/fanon. And Amy has already had her characterization changed in Western takes of Sonic from Boom onward.
@galten7361 Dude, I'm 40. I spent my entire life playing Mario games, going all the way back to the NES. Don't assume you know everything about me just cuz I have an opinion.
I genuinely pogged out when the opening rift of ‘Live and Learn’ started up. I don’t know how I didn’t see that coming, but I’m so glad I got it.
