  • We are pleased to be able to present a short history of endoscopic ultrasound. Those who ignore history are bound to commit past mistakes. The explosion in the application of EUS within gastrointestinal endoscopy can largely be attributed to research completed between 1990 and 2010.
Initially, EUS was not considered a viable technology as its cost was high and clinical value when compared to CT and MRI was minimal. This thinking was proven wrong through difficult but impactful research. Research, however, has a limited time of relevance and requires ongoing effort - one has to look no further than the rise of CT, MRI and PET scans for cancer staging which has led to the decline in EUS.
Impactful research does not consist of LinkedIn posts or social media presentation of cases. For those who consider themselves "EUS experts" and who are regularly present on the "endoscopy meeting trail", please carefully review your CV. If you are not completing impactful research studies on a regular basis which are moving EUS forward, you should consider pivoting your career and doing less speaking and more research. EUS is enjoying immense popularity and application, especially in the therapeutic arena, but this will be short-lived if the pace of good research is not accelerated.
Please enjoy this brief historical review of the development of EUS.

Great video. Great history. I respect you from the bottom of my heart. I sincerely wish you continued success and development. Thank you for your wonderful live seminars every time. Florida LIVE EUS 2023 up to yesterday was beyond my expectations and I am sure the best EUS live seminar in the world, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the faculty and comedians. I have attended every year and every time it is the most wonderful seminar. I would like to attend next year and forever after.
Thank you all for your hard work. Thank you all so much. From an annual participant from Japan.
