It can be done. I've spent the last few months building a motorbike pretty much from scratch but with a few parts from a couple different bikes, and I took the harness from the main bike I took parts from and modified the shit out of it so that it had proper connectors for every single part I was using, and done properly with relays and insulation. It can be done. It takes forever but it's super satisfying. I have an aftermarket speedometer, switches and usb charger on it but If I ever need to replace any of them, I'll never have to cut or modify any wires whatsoever. Just buy the same part and it'll plug right in. It's been worth every second of doing it.
dude your seriously really lucky to have a women that love being with you and doing what your doing helping build stuff women like that are rare and a good looking one at that
If you find no joy in the rain, you will have no joy but still the same amount of rain! Love what your doing to the chinook! Keep the great content coming.
Yes on the wiring harness. One of the best aspects of the content you two post is the authenticity of your efforts. Your willingness to share with us is refelcted in the rapid growth of your subscriber count. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be blazing past 200K subs like you would go racing past a shitty ex broke down on the side of the road.....
scheel-mann seats 100%. Vario F's are so nice. Heated bottom and back, arm rests, adjustable thigh length for you and your lady,4 way lumbar...etc etc. Toby is a super nice guy and has always given me great service over the years dealing with the US and German branches. They also love cool shit and this build is just that.
I have been watching you guys since the first build and what an adventure! My hobby is to rebuild/restore vehicles and even though you are "over your paygrade", you guys always find a way and thats what it is about! Thanks for sharing yalls journeys with the rest of us.
Thanks for bringing me back to my old Chrysler dealership days, using a rag to get the window regulator clips off 9:45, haven’t seen that in years, liked and subscribed!
Miss your travel videos but I appreciate the build videos. Re-building a vehicle like this definitely covers the spectrum of excitement, let down, frustration and finally satisfaction. Just have to keep at it even when you dont want to.
I’m so excited to watch this build happen. I hope y’all film as much as possible. I’d be down for some longer videos of yall in the shop just working. Doesn’t have to be super cinematic
I’ve been restoring/restomodding my 69 Bronco for a couple years now. It definitely adds up and takes its toll. You guys don’t need perfect, just travel!
pls show the wiring harness process. Its fairly foreign to me but I love watching it get done. Maybe one day I'll tackle that on one of my cars. stoked to see the new version of this rig!
Heated leather 98 forester seats fit pretty decent in first gen 4runner. Even shortened they are higher than stock which is nice if your head isn’t close to roof. Leather is super easy to clean and heat is nice.
I could watch you guys work on the Chinook all day. Keep pumping out updates! Installed a roof rack today and lights are next. Watching you guys work is nearly aa satisfying and a lot more relaxing
lol, looks like my civic right now 15:11, hell yeah brother! (and sister? haha) love this channel the wife and I marathoned a bunch of your content last month. also, LS400 seats!!!
Love you two and will watch whatever you guys put out...because it is real and genuine! How you only have 164k followers is beyond me. I only watch 2 channels religiously...yours and Itchy Boots (I'm a motorcycle fanatic). Keep up the awesome work and just keep being "you"!
This is why i took my build to WA in a space that costs the same as an apartment in BC. Trying to concentrate and do good work on a vehicle in the cold is hard.
I’m happy with the approach you guys have taken, clean the garbage up so it won’t fall apart while addressing living comforts but at the same time not spending years on “perfecting” the restoration. Definitely my favorite channel you guys are awesome!
I'm super excited to see where this goes. The old Hi-Lux cab is so cool for the look of this truck, I for one am thrilled you're keeping it. As for wiring harness work, I once built a whole harness out of scrap Toyota/Lexus harnesses and it worked beautifully. Take the time to draw/source good diagrams and use the heat-shrink-solder combo connectors!
As long as you guys are having fun, it is all good, 4 years ago we built a van from Home Depot stuff and painted it with Canadian tire paint and drove it from southern Ontario to Tuc over to Alaska down into Bc and back.👍👍
Awesome progress. These old Toyotas seem to have a way of having hidden rust. One tip is a good 2 k epoxy primer to seal the metal. It really makes a good barrier to keep the rust away. When we stripped our 1972 celica to bare steel I sprayed it in grey epoxy. It’s rough around the edges so I’m ok with the primer as a top coat. It’s sat about 2 years in the elements and no rust has returned.
Seats that swivel would be great. They add a lot of room to the living area when you're parked. I don't know if that would be an option, depending on clearance from doors and transmission tunnel.
Thank your for being vulnerable both about the car and life circumstances. That take a massive amount of courage and I admire that. As for the car it makes me happy to see it in the good the bad and the ugly because it feels so relatable. The truck looks awesome and I can’t wait to see more.
My heart cried when you took the engine out The brain siad rest assured it only get better For our restored cars we always made a new harness with a plate of wood We wrote on it what we needed nail to the part on the plate And then pull your cables Have FUN and be SAFE
I have only ever heard good things about Scheelmann seats. I think anyone you ask who has a set will tell you are the best. Corbeau makes a decent seat if you want it to look more "racey" but anyone you ask will tell you the Scheelmann are more adjustable and comfortable. Watching you cut the harness was wild.
6:55 Oldsmobile bravada seats, they are fully electronic leather seats with heated function all self contained and only require 3 wires for the functions to work.
Very interested to see the harness work. I feel electrical inside our vehicles is a hugely underrated upgrade that very, very few of us are skilled in due to fear 😅
@ I’m about to put on my 76’ chinook camper on my 86’ Toyota pickup with sleeper cab conversion next month..Volvo seats more comfortable then my 93’ 4Runner sr5 seats🤙
Continue to be yourself and be authentic guys. I believe it is VERY IMPORTANT. People should see the struggles if you want to be truly influential. Keep the old saying in mind that "nothing good comes easy." I've done vehicle builds as well and they are a CRAP LOAD of work that can't be understood unless done personally. Your smart, have a good woman helping you, and will succeed. I'll be watching in anticipation.👍👍✋😎
One more thing....😂 Those "skeletons in the closet" are the most important/interesting thing to see because it makes it REAL and is actually a HUGE motivator. Just saying. Don't forget that PPE🙂👍
I love your channel, amazing content as usual. One thing i can see you having problems with, if you go to europe, is having problems with the Police for lack of wheel cover. You need Fenders, the Fenders need to extend outward to be vertically flush with the tire edge when the steering wheel is in a forward position.
Good work over there! I tink I recognize those headlights and have them on my 2cv as well, but the "low beams" do not have a straight cut off line. You can open them up and place a half dome cover over one of the bulbs and you'll get a very nice low beam (I 3D printed my covers but any half dome will work)
Great to see the final teardown of the chinook. Interesting to see what engine choice you decided on. For seat wise I found seats out of a 94 Toyota 4runner very comfortable. Also seats in a 2019 Honda crv is also very supportive. Can't wait to see the next episode.
If you are making the front fenders wider, its a good space to mount an eberspacher heater, plus your a/c dryer, as i know you want a snorkel on the other side.
Just found yall on my feed and glad i subbed. Stoked to see where this latest iteration of your truck goes. I’ve got a similar era truck i wanna build on my channel and yall are definitely inspiring me to send it. Watched the whole panamerican hwy episode, this one and a couple others today yall are killing it.
FYI, the rust on a body works based on galvanic corrosion. Or basically an electrical potential. You need a sacrificial metal like zinc on the coating to create a protective oxide
A wise man once told me there's "There is no end to Cherry". With that said, the least you can do is prevent more rust from forming. Look into the POR-15 products, the VW community has used that stuff with great results.
The Westcotts of Turtle Expedition fame which I followed growing up since their first builds swore by Scheel seats. They always said that spending a lot of time in the seat you will appreciate the support and comfort of a well built aftermarket seat so Scheel-Mann for the win.
This was the video I have been waiting for! Super excited to see the V2.0 build and where it takes you guys next 👍🏼👍🏼 PS. Please show us the wiring harness overhaul!!
The truck of Theseus. Proof that a good vehicle can keep going. Something we need more of. More in depth of the 'How' it was made would be awesome. When Sunday's next iteration is ready, I would love to see what a current Toyota engineer thinks of it.
Thank you for being honest about having a great life and stop struggling at times, and having a good life taking discipline and hard work. That’s about as real as it gets and not heard enough
Thanks so much for sharing your adventures! Your 30 min film of your trip is a masterpiece 🖤 Couple tips that’s helped with my rig: Auxbeam switch panel - absolute simplest wiring option for lights. Also, I noticed you didn’t have a fan shroud when you pulled the engine. You’ll get much better cooling with a shroud cuz they’re not designed to work as well without it. For seats, I’ve heard of ppl pulling early 2000s Camry XLE seats for third gen 4Runners but idk if it’ll fit your rig. Brand new check out Corbeau, they’re a little spendy but for how long you’ll spend in them I think totally worth it
Another awesome video you two are awesome keep up the good work. Love your line, perfect is not done you should put that on one of your shirts or bumper sticker look forward to your next video.🤙🏽🇨🇦
My understanding of vehicles is put the key in and go.🤷♂️I admire your drive and ability plus your patience.I do similar work with houses.Considering you’ve gutted Sunday why not remove the windshield?Im sure there is rust around it.Would suck to get a rock on the Alaska Highway or Dempster only to find bigger problems during replacement.🤨🇨🇦
I'd love to see the wiring harness work! I'm super into your desire to do things right.
It can be done. I second that!

Well damn, sounds like we might need to give Toby a call! The adjustable thigh length would be a dream.
100% interested in seeing the rewiring video
Scheel Mann seats. I put them in my build. 11/10 highly recommend for the longest roadtrips
I have been watching you guys since the first build and what an adventure! My hobby is to rebuild/restore vehicles and even though you are "over your paygrade", you guys always find a way and thats what it is about! Thanks for sharing yalls journeys with the rest of us.

We can make that happen. There's certainly lots to be done 😆
I’ve been restoring/restomodding my 69 Bronco for a couple years now. It definitely adds up and takes its toll. You guys don’t need perfect, just travel!
Oh man, those 60s Broncos are beautiful.
Working on it!!

I almost don’t want to watch the episodes until the entire series is out! Ha. Love it!

So rad!! And noted 🤘🏼
Definitely show that harness rebuild dog!
Hey guys, good teamwork with the renovation! Sunflower the campervan said rotating, swivel driver and passenger seats bases could be awsome.
You should try 2nd gen Lexus RX seats, they’re heated and electric and they have a nice centre arm rest.
Love you two and will watch whatever you guys put out...because it is real and genuine! How you only have 164k followers is beyond me. I only watch 2 channels religiously...yours and Itchy Boots (I'm a motorcycle fanatic). Keep up the awesome work and just keep being "you"!
Jeep grand Cherokee seats are the most comfortable I’ve ever seen😊
It was absolutely fascinating to watch the first rebuild and your journey to Patagonia. This part 2 will be over the top.
Over the top is the goal haha
You lot are insane, good luck with it all!
Gotta be nowadays!
This is why i took my build to WA in a space that costs the same as an apartment in BC. Trying to concentrate and do good work on a vehicle in the cold is hard.
The whole border thing is a bit of a hangup for moving lol
love the progress, super inspiring! Can't wait to see how it will turn out version 2.0
Gosh, where to begin... You're both so amazing, brave, clever......... I'm loving this ❤️
great video, so enjoying this new venture! thanks
Glad to hear it!
Excited to watch the build! Scheel-Mann seats, you can pick 'em up in Oregon!
I’m happy with the approach you guys have taken, clean the garbage up so it won’t fall apart while addressing living comforts but at the same time not spending years on “perfecting” the restoration. Definitely my favorite channel you guys are awesome!
Thank you!! Glad you're behind the philosophy!
Using the rag to take off the clips is definitely going in my mental toolbox 🤙 can’t wait to see the rest of the build, you guys are awesome!
make sure yall hit any bare metal with Etch primer each day to prevent flash/surface rust
PRP elite seats in the heated and cooled version if you are feeling spendy!!
Right on guys .. painless wiring harness is the way to go
Love you guys still! Thanks for continuing to inspire me and my friends.
🤘🏻🤘🏻

Our cab is sadly too small, and they would be lower than the rear floor sadly. Would be rad though.
Gone but not forgotten - on to a cab that has air and a bed that has heat - can't wait to see him progress - as always, much love 🤍
I want to see more! Keep on going😊
More to come! Sleeping and editing get in the way
Perfect is the Enemy of Progess.
True!
Keep up the good work.

Appreciate you commenting on it! Thanks for being here.
Scheelmann custom seats.. would be bliss!!
perfect timing to watch before bed :0)
My heart cried when you took the engine out
The brain siad rest assured it only get better
For our restored cars we always made a new harness with a plate of wood
We wrote on it what we needed nail to the part on the plate
And then pull your cables
Have FUN and be SAFE
Travelling > Perfect Rig! What a massive effort guys, you've got this 🙌
Thank you!! Feels crazy!
😮you taken it this far, maybe just build a full on Total composite camper box on the back. I think it would look killer!
We're set on keep the vintage charm alive with the original shell!
Remember the block heater and necessary glue on pad heaters for drivetrain and batteries.
Your Journey inspires me
Thank you for this 🎉
Spray foam and under coat the underneath of the cab so you don't loose space inside
I've been patiently waiting for this, so exited to see the full transformation.
Us too!

Yes please show the wiring!! This serie is going to be amazing!!!
Early slat bar headrest Volvo seats perfect size and easy to mount using original rail..very comfortable driving position
On my 86’ Toyota pickup
Lots of valvo recommendation!
@ I’m about to put on my 76’ chinook camper on my 86’ Toyota pickup with sleeper cab conversion next month..Volvo seats more comfortable then my 93’ 4Runner sr5 seats🤙

You need Fenders, the Fenders need to extend outward to be vertically flush with the tire edge when the steering wheel is in a forward position.
We'll be making custom fender flares for the Chinook!
Looks like so much fun. Also looks like your 3D scan found all the hidden rust holes 😅 This is siiiick
Super Awesome! Yes on the wiring detail thank you .

You really should do a full harness from scratch, its much less complex and much more reliable at the end if done correctly!
If you are making the front fenders wider, its a good space to mount an eberspacher heater, plus your a/c dryer, as i know you want a snorkel on the other side.
Good call!
Looking good. Keep up the hard work. It’s going to pay off huge.
Can’t wait to see it finished but love watching the journey. You guys have come so far in the last two year.
Thanks for sticking around!
All the work is looking great.
Best seats to come in any factory vehicle by far are second gen 4Runner seats by far.

Cloth jetta seats are comfy
Love this!!! - bloke with a broken foot stuck at home ( victoria Australia ) with an 80series i cant drive haha
Corbeau seats are cozy and you can get seat heaters for them
I dropped a 1UZ into a '87 4Runner about 10 years ago and it turned out amazing. It was for my brother, so I didn't get to drive it much. That

I push the Like btn first and then watch the episode. It cannot disappoint
Cold and humid but you really put the things in pieces !
Keep em coming, great job 👏
For seats, I have a pair of SR5 seats from a 1986 4Runner in my 1985 4Runner and they are great. The side bolstering really holds you in.
We have them in Jade, not bad for sure!
Another awesome video you two are awesome keep up the good work. Love your line, perfect is not done you should put that on one of your shirts or bumper sticker look forward to your next video.🤙🏽🇨🇦
