It is a great song sung by the late Dan Seals. This was a gathering of legendary country musicians you notice, this song hit home right through their hearts. You can see the facial expression of BJ THOMAS. It was such a beautiful realistic song applicable to most travelling musicians trying to make it big. Great reaction Michael.

Thank you for doing this. It is one of my all-time favorites. I'd just like to note that he's playing that guitar left-handed, too. I always thought that falsetto just added to the vulnerability- he's just so wide-open in this song.

Couple of things Y'all missed. That's a monster 12 string he's playing upside down. Perhaps more importantly, he's making all the arpeggiated picking patterns, that a right hander playing a right handed guitar would, except he's playing them perfectly from bottom to top, not top to bottom.

First off this is a beautifully written song, I was hoping you would notice or point out though that Dan was playing left handed, but if you look closely it’s not a left handed guitar. It’s a right handed guitar flipped over and he’s playing it upside down and left handed!! Pure talent from that man, not to mention he played a lot on a 12 string the same way!

Good country song's are able to just paint such a vivid picture that u can begin to relate and even picture yourself in that story and feel that emotion they're going for. I love good music!

First, my name is Mark and Marta is my wife. She is a concert pianist from Argentina & I used to do videos for her. I just now found your channel and really enjoyed your musician perspective. This is a real tearjerker of a song and my favorite from Dan Seals. He was earlier in England Dan & John Ford Coley and his older brother James, was half of Seals and Crofts in the 70's with several top 40 hits between the two groups. This song made it to number one in the U.S. and Canada in 1986 and the year before he hit #1 with "Meet Me In Montana with Marie Osmond" that is worth a look. Thanks for the insights...I have subscribed! Best to you & your family.

As a military father I get this song so much! Training, deployments, nights on duty. Every missed birthday, sons football game, daughters violin concert, or a books at bedtime even. And the workload of the military wife at home. You sign contracts for 3 to 6 years at a time. Unfortunately your in the military so long it's no longer a choice, it one day became your life and starting over is hard. When your closer to retirement your children are teenagers need you and your guidance the most you loose more to leave than ever before. Yes you CAN retire at 20 years but you pay a HEAVY price.
Another song in this vein I SO RELATE to is You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive by Brad Paisley. A song about a coal miner that worked himself to death even though it was killing him long term cause that's all he knew how to do. Brad Paisley's most underrated song.

Excellent reaction-alysis Michael, always loved (England) Dan throughout his career and you certainly paid due respect with this offering. I would like (again) to request that you check out Danny Gatton as he was considered "The greatest unknown guitarist" by Rolling Stone mag in the early '90s. More specifically, The Sun Medley feat. Delbert McClinton on vocals. (heavy Elvis vibes, which is probably why he wasn't as popular as he could have been since he's primarily considered rockabilly). I was fortunate enough to see him live 6 months before his suicide and I will always remember this performance. (Playing awesome slide guitar with an open beer bottle and continuing to play while wiping down the neck def added to the experience!) Regardless, enjoyed this vid and your Zebra video that I watched before this one. Rock on sir!
