Dan released this song in the middle of my divorce in 1985. It was very sad for me at that time. It got me through it. I was in the US Army at the time. @@rexoates4484 You hit the nail on the head, Rex. Soul is desperately needed and sorely missed these days. I also miss Harmony singing in both Country and Pop. The 60s and 70s had countless artists/ bands with excellent three/four part harmonies. Whatever happened to Harmony singing? Surely the record companies understands that and its a crowd pleaser too. Maybe there ain't artists out there today CAPABLE of singing tight harmonies? I love the warm Harmonic blend of England Dan and John Ford Coley. Midland is a blast of fresh air and their music is a mix of The Eagles and George Strait. Nice too see real talent finding massive success. The 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s had a well of superb artists but Country lost its sound in the 90s and don't get me started when discussing the Country music of 2000-2021.....I was born in 1980 and got introduced to the fine Pop music of the 1960s through my father. In the late 90s I discovered Country music and consider myself a massive fan and a serious record collector and I've been studying the entire American Country music history, from the late 1920s to the current times. I'm a Norwegian and a songwriter. My favourite pop bands include The Beatles, Beach Boys and Gilbert OSullivan and my favourite Country artists include Don Williams, Paul Overstreet, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and The Everly Brothers. Oh...and my All Time Gospel act is The Louvin Brothers!
true. Now a day's only few song's is really good to hear. Old song's still the best. Until now I still remember the old song's I might forget the tittle but the choros I can sing it.
@@flordelizapanhon3999 You've obviously got a great taste in music and older songs ARE better than newer songs! Dan Seals was half of the 70s Soft Rock duo England Dan and John Ford Coley and together they scored a string of hits between 1976 and 1980. If you're not familiar with that duo, please check em out on RUclips, Spotify, CD, LP or whatever music outlet you use!
I don't know...there was quite a lot of success all gathered together in that one room. The thing about music is: IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE COMPETITIVE. It was mean to be enjoyed together not to be a contest. It was the business people, the lawyers and the sales people who made the competition angle to try to push sales and make more money. Ask any of the artists and they'll all tell you they hate the idea of saying their song is better than someone else's song. While you may LIKE or PREFER one artist over all others, it doesn't necessarily make them better, just more to your taste. Whereas another may have a completely diffferent view. So to say any one in that room was better than all the rest is only a subjective view and probably none of the people there would agree with that. They're all different and their musical output is different - as it should be. In order to have any kind of fair competition, you have to remove all of the differences and make all exactly the same.
@@Rx_Bluegrass I wholeheartedly agree with you. Thats why I don't like music contests. It's not based on quality its based on popularity. The most popular song will always win and just like you I don't judge music that way. But there IS a case to be made for calling a particular artist greater than another. I mean, you HAVE to call Elton John greater than say, Justin Bieber in terms of musical quality! The same with the charts. It's just a popularity thing and that's fair enough but I've never thought of music like that. I miss music shows where they simply let musical artists appear and sing their songs without judges making their so called expert comments. No scores, no points, just let the music speak for itself! I'm definitely on your side but none of my friends who are into music agrees with me. I used to watch Eurovision Song Contest but I had to give it up because I knew there was no way to decide which song is "better" or " worse". It all comes to down to individual taste. The thing is, there are ballads, rockers, Jazz inflected songs, and other kinds of music in these contest and its useless to put these up against eachother. Of course saying Dan Seals probably was the greatest of them all is my subjective view. Trouble is, for many people they would call that absolutely objective! Ive talked to several people regarding music and how were judging artists and musical genres and they honestly believe THEIR favourite artist or song IS the best and how dare I even question their stand!😁
@@thomasmarthinussen8978 There is not doubt that as far as musical knowledge or instrument prowess there are going to be vast differences among different people. Case In Point: In the movie Amedeus, Court Composer Salieri (played by F. Murray Abraham) is always comparing his talent to Mozart's and can't quite hold up to the genius. So if it were a contest of who could write more songs, or who could pick more notes in a minute, there would be lesser and greater all across the board. But that's not the same as saying "this song is better". Just like you can't say that "Moonlight Sonata" is better than "Hey Jude". They're not in the same genre, not in the same century and not in the same country....but there will always be people who say: "Hey Jude" is the best of all time....or "There'll never be another song like "Layla". It's just human nature. What they really mean is THEY LIKE IT BETTER. But it's a character flaw just like when they say: "You make me so very angry" when in fact, it is they who make themselves angry because they don't like what you do.
That's Barbara Fairchild. She had a #1 hit in the '70s with something called "The Teddy Bear Song" and then had another song called "Baby Doll." Her country career was short, but she went into gospel music for decades.
I had the pleasure of having dinner with Dan Seals back in the early 90's when he came to play our county fair. The fair manager invited me to the home-cooked dinner his wife put on. Dan was a genuine down to earth guy. What a gentleman, and what a show he put on for our little county fair in Waterville Washington. Rest in peace Dan, many folk miss you dearly.
Pain in this life produces the most beautiful people. The talents those people cultivate make numbers like this right here. Dan is still underrated. So was Van Gogh in his day.
Never ridden a horse, never seen a rodeo (they don't have them in England), Never owned a cowboy hat, never had a broken relationship, so why the hell can't I listen to this without crying? Because England Dan has so much emotion in his voice I guess?
Ray Green So glad to hear that. I think it is a respite. There is something raw and pure in his voice that reminds you of what is quintessentially human in this inhumane world.

When you write a song so great, kind of as an outsider at that time, and you get the greatest of the great to sing along….. well, that’s why I write songs. For just one moment like that.
Just noticed he's playing a right handed guitar, lefty. Does anyone know if that's just how he played? What a phenomenally beautiful song. Still listening in 2024 & here's to years and years of more enjoyment. Cheers, Dan.
One morning in the late 90's my alarm was set to radio and went off at 6 am. My wife was already up cooking breakfast. This song immediately came on. I'd heard it many times and even played and sang it. But as I lay there listening, it was like angelic music coming from that cheap radio/alarm. I'll never forgot that moment.... how beautiful this song was that morning.
i've read your great comment since last year, and today after one year once i watched the video i found myself looking for your comment to read it once again. try to write something at least one page a day you are talented!
So many greats in one room. It’s sad country music can’t be like this anymore. So much emotion & great storytelling. You don’t have to be country to appreciate how great songs like these are. Country music today needs to go back to this blueprint & make this genre relevant again.
You know you are star when you have some of the greatest country singers quietly singing along with you. Beautiful song and a great talent. RIP Dan Seals one of the many greats that are gone but not forgotten.
God I miss this time...I mean SERIOUSLY miss it. What a time to be alive and enjoy such music when it was there. God Bless those Gen X'rs that remember and appreciate.
One of the best versions of one of the best songs ever written. I have to mention the guitar playing. He’s playing a right handed 12 string guitar left handed and never misses a note. That’s pure talent. Not bad for a West Texas boy from Big Lake, TX.
That's not difficult. Just work out how you want to play it, and then practice, practice, practice. Odd that he wanted to play it that way, but I'm sure he had his reasons. I've played guitar for decades, and I know that eventually it becomes instinctive.
The original studio cut of this one was beautiful. But, this live version is something special. Seeing the reactions in the eyes of Dan's fellow performers to the truth that he speaks of in the song does not go unnoticed. Thanks for posting.
Oh what beautiful musicians we had in country music. Music is about how the heart reacts and responds to the voices, sound and the spirit behind the songs. They don't do such music in our times. Its all gone when musicians were one with their listeners. RIP Dan.
What a song, and what a gathering of greats. Would love to see this same kind of gathering today's available stars. Country artists know well how to celebrate each other.
I absolutely love hearing classis country music..Reminds me so much of my Dad. I grew up with this classic music❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉My Dads Spirit is in the Music and speaks volums to me. Thank you so much for letting me join the group...❤❤❤❤😊🎉
“Hey Dan, want to give that gold glitter song of yours a try? No pressure, you’re only in the company of country superstars and legends.” “I’ll give it my best shot”. Dan delivers. Probably his best performance ever ( my opinion) in the company of country royalty. RIP Dan. Great , great musician.
Glen Campbell singing along with his eyes closed, Kathy Mattea and Janie Frickie singing backup. ❤❤❤ Bobby Bare and Waylon Jennings coming in on the chorus. So many wonderful singers on one stage.
The pain of a breakup lingers on and on and on. This song reminds me of the song 'Whose Girl Are You' by the Old Man. The song is about the pain a man is experiencing in coming to terms with his ex-girlfriend being with someone else. He still loves and misses her and longs to be with her.
I love the way Dan used to keep his eyes closed while he was singing. It shows that every single word was coming right from his heart as opposed to the singers who read the words off the teleprompter or off the cue sheet. You know that he could actually SEE the picture that he was painting for us. That is the mark of a genuine singer/songwriter. I had the chance to have breakfast with Dan back in the 1970s. It was when he was still with John Ford Coley and after a few really big top 40 hits. I was hanging out with a country band and the bass player was a childhood friend of Dans and used to practice with him in Dan's dad's garage. He got a bunch of us together and invited Dan to join us so we all crowded into the big corner booth at Sambo's Restaurant in Phoenix, AZ. I ended up sitting right next to Dan and we had a great conversation. I've had the fortune to meet many Country recording personalities but I can honestly say I don't think I ever met anyone that was nicer and more genuine down-to-earth - No glitz, No glitter, No Show...just honest sincerity and talent. They did a song in their set that was a country flavored tune (Ramblin' Gamblin Man) and I remember telling him they should release that as a single and try to do more country tunes.....He said he'd like to but the label wouldn't let them, Had them locked into a format of making hits. I always wondered if I planted the seed that told him to go back to his country roots.....I'll never know because I never got to meet him agian, but I'm so glad he did go in that direction. I am sorry we lost him way too soon but what a treasure chest of material he left behind. Thank you Dan!

A Legend.!!! He sings with so much emotions. 2022 but we are still listening and enjoying his music. Thank you
Im good and you?😊
Hi
Beautiful, clean, heart - breaking country at its finest. Not to be found today.
Love this man!!!
Dan impressing a room full of country giants.....Thing is, Dan was probably the greatest of them all!
Amen!
Yes he was
I don't know...there was quite a lot of success all gathered together in that one room.
Sitting on the porch in 2024 balling my eyes out one of my favorites
Love howthe lady in the red jacket gives him a richly deserved standing ovation ,after an outstanding version of a beautiful song
That's Barbara Fairchild. She had a #1 hit in the '70s with something called "The Teddy Bear Song" and then had another song called "Baby Doll." Her country career was short, but she went into gospel music for decades.
Dan Seals, like a fine wine, we are sad that your time has come and gone. RIP Were still listening in 2021
You can't beat a great song, sung with emotion.
An Icon in the history of country music 🇺🇲
I hear it with tears in my eyes.
I love the USA and i love this song
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
I can’t believe he didn’t get a standing ovation. Sublime performance
No doubt!!
Facts this was an absolute masterpiece
I had the pleasure of having dinner with Dan Seals back in the early 90's when he came to play our county fair. The fair manager invited me to the home-cooked dinner his wife put on. Dan was a genuine down to earth guy. What a gentleman, and what a show he put on for our little county fair in Waterville Washington. Rest in peace Dan, many folk miss you dearly.

Man I would have been so honored to have sung a song around a group of singers like these.
It's heartbreaking to see so many of these guys that are no longer with us. R. I. P. To the greats. There'll never be a replacement
How many of the Greats in that room had no idea they wouldn't be with us today. That video is immortal.
this song never fails to put a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat. He was a wonderful entertainer.
Pain in this life produces the most beautiful people. The talents those people cultivate make numbers like this right here. Dan is still underrated. So was Van Gogh in his day.
When songs had meaning ,words painted a picture and the story takes you on a journey. Kids this is how it is done.
Loved his music - always great songs. He was also a joy to sit and talk with - several times. One of the sweetest guys in our biz - ever. RIP Dan
Never ridden a horse, never seen a rodeo (they don't have them in England), Never owned a cowboy hat, never had a broken relationship, so why the hell can't I listen to this without crying? Because England Dan has so much emotion in his voice I guess?
Because emotions have no borders, thanks for sharing
Ray Green So glad to hear that. I think it is a respite. There is something raw and pure in his voice that reminds you of what is quintessentially human in this inhumane world.
Ray Green way it just gots j.g.
Just the way it is.
He died about 2 years after he made this video. Tragic.
So beautiful....gosh I miss traditional country singers.....

Perfect performance of a song that a lot of people can relate to. Dan Seals was a great singer ,songwriter.
Good morning Charles how are you doing today
My dad use to play this song when I was little, in uncommon for an African man, over 30 years later I am listening and now I know the meaning of the song.
Hello, how are you doing today...
When you write a song so great, kind of as an outsider at that time, and you get the greatest of the great to sing along….. well, that’s why I write songs. For just one moment like that.
Good morning Ruth how are you doing today
What an amazing performance - sitting in the midst of legends !!
DAN SEALS still one of the best, so underrated and under appreciated, a great loss to the music industry
I’ve always wondered if he did not get his due because of his faith.
How many #1 songs or Gold records does he need to not be underrated anymore? Do you even know what Underrated MEANS?
...this touching, heart-wrenching song can still make me cry... appreciate loved ones, there's always so little time. 🙏💙
Beautiful song, great country singer
I’m 85 still listening to bob seger ,,,❤😂never to old for good music
Hi Shelby💐💐
Just noticed he's playing a right handed guitar, lefty. Does anyone know if that's just how he played? What a phenomenally beautiful song. Still listening in 2024 & here's to years and years of more enjoyment. Cheers, Dan.
One morning in the late 90's my alarm was set to radio and went off at 6 am. My wife was already up cooking breakfast.
This song immediately came on. I'd heard it many times and even played and sang it.
But as I lay there listening, it was like angelic music coming from that cheap radio/alarm. I'll never forgot that moment....
how beautiful this song was that morning.
i've read your great comment since last year, and today after one year once i watched the video i found myself looking for your comment to read it once again.
try to write something at least one page a day

Everyone loved and admired Mr. Seals. What an awesome talent God gave him to share with the world. RIP Cowboy.
That is one of beautiful country song of real country musician ,Dan Seals ,RIP ! Thanks from Croatia!
He's one of my favorites I'm glad that I got to meet him here in Hutchinson Kansas in 1994

So many greats in one room. It’s sad country music can’t be like this anymore. So much emotion & great storytelling. You don’t have to be country to appreciate how great songs like these are. Country music today needs to go back to this blueprint & make this genre relevant again.
How true. I sneer at most "country" artists today. Bobby Bare, Roy Clark, Chet Atkins...pure country talent.
wow
You know you are star when you have some of the greatest country singers quietly singing along with you. Beautiful song and a great talent. RIP Dan Seals one of the many greats that are gone but not forgotten.
Wow the emotion in Dan Seals face when he finishes.. Who hurt you Dan seals?
You'll never see a room full of more talent, and beautiful human beings again in your life..
I've played guitar for decades, and I know that eventually it becomes instinctive.
one of the greatest live performances of all time.
Look at the talent in that room 🤯 ... WOW!! and what do we got now? Jellyroll 😢
The original studio cut of this one was beautiful. But, this live version is something special. Seeing the reactions in the eyes of Dan's fellow performers to the truth that he speaks of in the song does not go unnoticed. Thanks for posting.
Tim Vaughan and csfg
Tim Vaughan some very heavy hitters singing along.
Oh what beautiful musicians we had in country music. Music is about how the heart reacts and responds to the voices, sound and the spirit behind the songs.
They don't do such music in our times. Its all gone when musicians were one with their listeners. RIP Dan.
Well said, Tim.
And the simple "Thankyou Very Much" at the end, just signs off the song so beautifully...
What an amazing group of backup singers and band members.... This must be what Heaven's like.
Heaven's sound is way outta imagination. But then again I bet heaven will be more graced with you in attendance.😉
Look at all the legends in one place. Amazing.

What a song, and what a gathering of greats. Would love to see this same kind of gathering today's available stars. Country artists

This song is the reason I LOVE traditional country music and also the reason I named my first daughter "Kayse"
Donnie Bosarge May I ask how do you pronounce that
I think it's prolly spelled Casey, but who cares...:-)
The song is far from traditional country. He was a pop vocalist before he went country.

“I’ll give it my best shot”.

This invokes so much emotion. This is exactly where my love for country music comes from.
A beautiful song, sang with all of Dan Seals humble heart.

The pain of a breakup lingers on and on and on. This song reminds me of the song 'Whose Girl Are You' by the Old Man. The song is about the pain a man is experiencing in coming to terms with his ex-girlfriend being with someone else. He still loves and misses her and longs to be with her.
@Mark Honest I'm okay. I trust that you are well.
@Mark Honest I live in South Africa.
2022 and still in awe of Dan's talent.
Never get tired of this version. What an amazing flawless performance.
I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes like other comments I miss the old country performed by true artists & musicians RIP Mr.Seals
