Cory, this content is going to empower the next generation of musicians. There’s so much delusion on success, especially when it comes to networking and the “who ya know” mantra. Your straightforward and and practical approach in these videos is adding so much value to me at the start of my music career as a recent college grad. Thank you!
Cory, I love how you have made this series almost seem or feel like satire but its not satire at all. Just great advice for budding musicians. And I love your come-up story.
Playing in church is probably the best way to become a great musician or singer. So many working musicians started there. It even helps you with writing music that consistently moves people. You can learn so many aspects of the music game there.
This series is great advice not just for musicians (cos I play, but I'm not trying to be a professional musician), but for anyone wanting a life doing a craft they love! Great life advice too. Thank you!!
this series is so totally amazing. Gives you the real tips and stuff you need to know, with honesty but not scary! and its so well done too editing and writing wise.
Beneath all the lessons, it all comes down to... Cory Wong is a very good person. Your lesson on social conduct is like the essence of being a good person in our social live and everyone, not just musician need to listen to you :))
You’ve heard about the Koz Nod, but do you know about the Bland Stand? Built by my former band’s frontman for getting up on the Glueks stage. Did he play for Alex Rossi or did the Combo play there? Wednesdays? I forget. Anyways, the Bland Stand. Nothing but respect for Michael Bland though. Hero.
I know it’s probably a lot but I would love it if we got a Spotify playlist of that Bunkers 250song catalogue! Love this new stuff you’re putting out, this was just as tight as everything else.
Awesome advice. I really loved the story about how everyone came together. Nothing beats making those in-person directions. I’ve gotten more gigs meeting people at jam sessions then through social media. 👍
This video is absolutely fascinating, thank you for sharing! It's amazing to see how the blend of hard work, contacts/networking, willingness to say "yes" to opportunities, and a bit of luck, all blend together to make a career come to pass.
This is a cool series! I think it's good to mention that, if you're quitting a gig, you might think about timing. Maybe it's just plain obvious, but I'll say it anyway: If the group or artist is on tour, organizing a tour, prepping for the studio, or anything logistically intensive like that, then a "notice period" would be ideal... kinda like a "real job", ha ha! Try not to leave 'em hanging too much!
The Bobby Stanton => "Jack Joe and Theo" thing is a domino/snowball effect. It's actually wonderful. But YOU NEED that little push at the beginning. If you never get that push which can be translated as the "I like how you play, come over to this next week etc..." You're screwed.
Hi Cory! I'm a big fan of your work, but I'm still learning English. I would be very happy if you activated the subtitles of You tube in your videos. I would like to understand what you say. Please
Hey brother- whats the story on that hoodie??? Pool player/saxophonist loves your attitude and expertise- real quality advice here. Gifted and structured analysis...thanks and shalom!!
I have a question. How did you get drummer Nate Smith to show up at jack's house and start playing with a bunch of guys from Michigan? He is a legend that has played with Chris Potter. Did Jack pay him a lot of money or how does that work? Nate Smith is a god.
This is all awesome. Thanks, Cory! And on the tip of knowing someone’s vibe, it’s JIMMIE Vaughan. His first name gets misspelled as often as his last. :)
I think Cory misread that 420 friendly band. I think they are a jam band that plays at hippie festivals, Rainbow gatherings, and community centers. Good times, but perhaps not the most steady gigs. And if you're an uptight religious person, or into metal perhaps not for you.
Just to think, if Prof. Bobby did do that church gig, he would be the guitarist of vulfpeck.
Professor Bobby is probably the best guitarist I’ve ever been around. Monster player
Bro Cory wtf are you doing in my English exam??!?!?!?!?!?????
Long time fan btw
This stuff is actually next level.
Netflix needs you
I'm a game Developer from Canada and I find these videos very helpful for any sort of life passion project, not just music. Thank you for posting!
hey cory, if youre reading your comments: thank you for being frank but friendly with all this and making the culture and lingo clear

As a wise person once said: "Luck favors the prepared."
Woody Allen once said: Half of succes is showing up.
yep. knowing that the bridge goes to a flat 7 dominant chord doesn't come from luck! it comes from respecting the gig enough to put in the work
Thats tsun zu isnt it ?
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity

A wonderful time in life, enjoy it and work hard!
These are golden. School fails to teach this
Cory looks like food critic from ratatouille lol
His positive encouraging twin.
"Totally not a cult" and your reaction, that stuff totally cracked me up! So good...
Not a musician. Still watched this entire thing.
When it comes to guitar mastership the desk lamp behind Cory is the only thing I can relate to.
This series is great advice not just for musicians (cos I play, but I'm not trying to be a professional musician), but for anyone wanting a life doing a craft they love! Great life advice too. Thank you!!
why is this guy so eloquent and entertaining

The little guitar sound effects are excellent.
Actually can you add in a "badabeeeeooow" descending slide thing? Thx
Answer me honestly Cory: did Michael Bland ever throw a cymbal at you yelling "Not my Tempo!!"
before the Koz Nod, comes the Bland Berating
Brb, on my way to get this proverb tattooed on my forearm.
You’ve heard about the Koz Nod, but do you know about the Bland Stand? Built by my former band’s frontman for getting up on the Glueks stage. Did he play for Alex Rossi or did the Combo play there? Wednesdays? I forget. Anyways, the Bland Stand.

This could be titled - How to How To Get The Gig : How To Lose The Gig. Hope non-musicians watch this too because it was insightful (and fun)
Good grief this is just straight gold and deserves 100x the views. Thanks for putting these together!

Amazing video. One of my favorite sayings from an old mentor was “your only job is to get called back, and not slow rehearsals”
I know it’s probably a lot but I would love it if we got a Spotify playlist of that Bunkers 250song catalogue! Love this new stuff you’re putting out, this was just as tight as everything else.

Another thing i learned early on is BE ON TIME. Of course that is also a part of being prepared to know when to show up. Great video and great series.
Wise, wise words....
Hey man, any recordings of your time with CCM artists? I'm interested in hearing your take/flavor on CCM
Wow! "How to Live" disguised as "How to Musician". Great life wisdom!
Cory always rocking the pseudodudo. I see that racked hoodie. Shouts out to Riley

Cory Wong. With more great content for us to use. Thank you again from a bunch of aspiring musicians.

I think Cory misread that 420 friendly band. I think they are a jam band that plays at hippie festivals, Rainbow gatherings, and community centers. Good times, but perhaps not the most steady gigs. And if you're an uptight religious person, or into metal perhaps not for you.
Cory you’re a legend. We should all know this but don’t. Thanks 👍

Thank you for this video "serie"! We all need your wisdom advices! 🙏🖕
So basically it all goes back to the church gig. The Lord works in mysterious ways!
Thank you Cory, aways an inspiration 🤘😁
Can we get a Jason Gray collab project?
Wedding on acid might be pretty fun if you can hold it together
And thats how you get the gig
Cory, how many of your band members came from recommendations?
Billy Franze is killer!
Did you really go to the UMN?
