How about discussing the jam space/studio space and how the organization, setup, lighting, acoustics and such effect overall mood, productivity and vibe? Aside from acquiring gear and learning to use it this has been a major area for me to get right. Whether you're getting paid sessions or just playing with multiple people, having a good sense of how the environment effects the function of the musicians is key 🔑
Hi Cory ! How about an episode on INTERVIEWS ? What is a "good interview" and what is a "bad interview," and how has the art of being interviewed (and of interviewing) change over the last years--and this year in general ? I'm especially curious because I find that some interviews (be they filmed or written) often change the way I think and appreciate given bands, etc., so I'd love to know what goes on in your mind-from the musician's end.
Hey Cory! I would love to see a video on touring. I know that's not the very first thing every musician gets to do, but I know it's something a lot of musicians aspire to. 2020 has definitely complicated for touring and live music work, but just knowing about how you've gotten touring gigs or organized your own tours, what sort of things to keep in mind for gear, maintaining physical/social/emotional/mental health on tour, etc. I think that would be rad, for sure.
Hey Cory, good stuff man. Can you talk about hierarchy in the music industry. Lets say if I am a singer/songwriter and I want to have a big deal with major labels. How does that go? Thanks :)
GREAT QUESTION. thanks for letting me know topics you want to hear about. Ernie Ball is feeling generous and going to send you a bunch of cool stuff. plz email social@ernieball.com and they'll get some stuff sent over to you! peace! cory.
I teach a studio performance module at a university in England. As always with these things, 90% of what was said here is stuff we already tell the the students, but there are always a few new nuggets of invaluable information. It also seems that students need to here the same point being made by me, a colleague, a guest speaker and then someone like Cory in a video, before it actually sinks in! Will be sharing with my students now, hoping they take on the excellent advice.
Merry Christmas from Ireland Corry! and thank you so much for doing this series. The in depth and objectivity is invaluable. As a music student I wish there was an industry module that was taught like this. While the lecturers have their musicianship, instrumental and engineering modules down it never seems to glue together unless you do it yourself. Maybe this is by choice in order to weed out those who don’t have what it takes but I love the upfront and honest way you talk about things? All the best in your future endeavours and hopefully next time you play Cyprus I’ll be able to catch the gig 😊😊
Been doing a lot of remote work for a long time in both a musician and engineer role (a lot of times both simultaneously) and this really hit the nail on the head for me. Every point made lacked absolutely no detail and really validated a lot of my outlooks on making music.
Topic: how to get a good at-home studio up and running. Many many guitar players have just been playing, and don’t know shit about the rest. These days you have to do it all and it can be a steep learning curve. How about some tips on must have studio gear and what software to use to get going. Thanks for the great content.
Love this series! Idea for future video: how to keep learning/improving/practicing as a musician, what kind of things do you learn from, how conscious are you about it, how to practice something new and how to incorporate the things you've learned into your playing
something else for people who need to practice their session stuff: DO YOUR OWN SESSIONS! i do my own sessions all the time because im recording covers of stuff or im working on my own music. that has opened my eyes to how initially bad my timing and intonation could be and has helped me figure out how i need to be better. same will happen for anybody else
One time at a session I literally was given the direction to play more "aaah" (coca cola ah sound) and less "gaah" followed by her spreading her arms open and saying you know?
Love this. I feel like the biggest thing I got was... ask questions!! Communicate. Get the best idea of what someone wants before making mistakes you don’t need to make. Thanks Cory!
Love the teaching style, Cory. The nature of session work has completely changed in 2020, so I appreciate the information on working remotely. Sending revisions back and forth can really be a hassle though! It really slows the process down compared to creating together in person.
I love you're music and dig your solos. Groove and melodic feel are my favorite parts about your music. So maybe a video on melodic soloing and/or locking in the groove?
People always talk about being a good “hang” will get you hired over someone who’s musically better but has a bad attitude, so how do you be a good hang? Obviously this will vary per situation, but how do you navigate a fast paced and demanding studio environment?
"You're playing like this *swings hi hat* but I want you to play more like this *swings hi hat*" I can't even tell you how many times I encountered this when I was studying music lmao 🤣
hey Cory, I'm really enjoying this series, many thanks for recording it! I was wondering about one thing - for remote work, do you send your tracks with reverb or delay mixed in, or do you leave this for the mixing engineer to figure out?
it depends on if it's an integral part of the SOUND. i normally play pretty dry so i leave it that way. unless the verb is one of the main things that makes the guitar part work...it it works the same way without the verb or delay, i leave it out
Topic suggestion: It's not fun, it's not sexy, but what kind of team around you do you need to do this right? And no, I don't mean a bass player who can keep time. I mean the accountants, the lawyers, the friends, the family...as you start out and even more so, as you build success it's so important to know who you need to help you protect yourself, build a foundation to thrive, etc.
This is a GREAT question and not talked about enough. I'll hit this next go around. thanks for letting me know topics you want to hear about. Ernie Ball is feeling generous and going to send you a bunch of cool stuff. plz email social@ernieball.com and they'll get some stuff sent over to you! peace! cory.
Can you talk a bit more about tone and equipment, like pedals and interfaces and mics and stuff, like what all kind of equipment is important for studio work vs going on the road etc?
Great content! Love your style of videos! Signal messenger app for your phone or computer is really good with sending files too. You can send fairly large unzipped files if youre sending wav, flac, or aac files securely and it's completly free to use
Brilliant tips! Done a couple guitar sessions for other people recently and really feel like I could've done with these tips before hand. Will be sharing this video around with my musician friends
Topic Suggestion: Stage Presence/How to work a crowd
Yesss, Great idea
+1
This series is so criminally underwatched. More aspiring musicians need to hear what Cory is saying here!
Maybe it's just for the chosen ones
*comment below what topic you want me to discuss in the future. winner comment get's a bunch of free strings and stuff from Ernie Ball!!

Balancing real life stuff (family, errands/chores, personal time/hobbies) with the music 'job'!!

To quote jack stratton "is what I'm adding another hook"
Still don’t really understand if it’s good or bad for the thing you’re adding to be another hook
I'm a voiceover artist, and this hits right in the feels.
You are very generous.
Thanks.
I could watch this over and over.
Ah! So nice to have someone say it all outloud.
“I want you to play like a dolphin... no, *two* dolphins!”
hahaha
Topic suggestion: How to come across confident, but not too cocky, and humble, but not a push-over, in the music industry.

Im in ireland too, what course are you in? Im curious
Hello fellow Irishmen
Been doing a lot of remote work for a long time in both a musician and engineer role (a lot of times both simultaneously) and this really hit the nail on the head for me. Every point made lacked absolutely no detail and really validated a lot of my outlooks on making music.

I think a video on practicing, preperation and that kinda stuff would be very useful personally
It´s timeless advice. I really love your content Cory, your sharing your wisdom and show us how to be professional
Reminded me of that dude, 10 years ago, Reggae man, who wanted a "Melancholic" Drum pattern for his Hip-Hop song.
something else for people who need to practice their session stuff:
DO YOUR OWN SESSIONS!

I came here to learn something about being a musician and i left with a big smile on my face
Beautiful
Love this. I feel like the biggest thing I got was... ask questions!! Communicate. Get the best idea of what someone wants before making mistakes you don’t need to make. Thanks Cory!
Effective song learning strategies
Another great one, Cory. And that mustang bass with the full-sized P and J pick ups is a beast! I got one of those on account of muh tahny fangers.
Solid advice.
Nice. Teaching people how to be a musician gives them hope that they actually can be a musician
Who’s the 1 thumbs downer that’s frustrated with their lack of session work??? Crushing it per usual.
Definitely hit dislike by mistake
This episode couldn't have come at a better time for me
god bless you man
These videos are super inspiring. Thank you for taking me to school. I love it
Even outside of music, this is excellent professional advice in general.
Topic: When and how to take a break (In the studio, band practice, stage rehearsals, solo practice, etc.)
Doing my part for the algorithm. Keep doing your thing!
Suggestion: Regular Practice (Not preparing for a session or a show)
Thanks Cory, this was really helpful. I think your tips could apply to any creative job that requires teamwork.
I'm not even a session musician and I found this pretty dang interesting and educational! Maybe by the time I'm 60 I'll be a session ukulele player.
Cory you ARE iconic!
People always talk about being a good “hang” will get you hired over someone who’s musically better but has a bad attitude, so how do you be a good hang? Obviously this will vary per situation, but how do you navigate a fast paced and demanding studio environment?
"You're playing like this *swings hi hat* but I want you to play more like this *swings hi hat*"

Man. Thank you.
Keep on musicianin'
Awesome content, awesome tips ! Thanks a lot !! Intense ads are kind of annoying though (6 on this video)
Cory in an establishing shot is so fucking inspiring
Topic: how to prepare yourself for the gig or how to keep yourself prepared for a random gig?
This series is sooo underrated
This is exactly how my music teacher in school speaks
How should/do you run a band rehearsal? How do you prep for a gig/tour with a group of people?
now that is valuable as fuck insight & help
How to be prepared for the gig
Many thanks to you for your guitar work on the Hit Machine song “You with Me” produced by Mark Heimermann in Minneapolis.
Another brilliant episode!!! Thanks Cory!
You’re the best! Care to do more on songwriting??
Brilliant!
That serie is beyond great!
Fascinating, though (or because) I don’t work in the music industry.
Topic suggestion! How to promote and release music on DSP’s , play listing etc
This series is extremely helpful and insightful... and I'm saying that as a magician
20:09 : my reaction to the entirety of 2020
Thanks for all those tips but I’m also trying to learn where you got that sweet sweatshirt.
This is the true money right here
Thank you very much Mister, we need it! Happy Holidays and I wish you'll have a great new year! 🎄
these are so awesome, not to mention goddamn hilarious
Great video Cory. Thank you for all the effort you put in to making these!
Proceeds to tell us how much pressure is on you in a studio.
"Now that I've sugarcoated it for you......"
Lovin the series man. Happy holidays Cory!

@@CoryWongMusic thanks a lot, that makes a lot of sense!
Do I have to live in Nashville , nyc , or lA to be sessions musician or could I live in music city like Denton tx of Memphis
"MAKE IT SPARKLE!!!"
I would love to know how youd promote yourself/get gigs during covid? The quarantine concerts?
Amazing videos. I love your sketches bruv💯
Remember the "producer switch" technique by Leland Sklar too! Please check the RUclips video if you don't know it 🤩

@@CoryWongMusic Awesome! Thanks! I'm a huge fan of yours and am humbled by being selected. Keep on doing what yer doing and take care of that family!
This is a quality video, nice work man and also this information is super valuable. Thank you man! Merry Christmas :)
How about how to really get yourself to practice more and to do so more efficiently (I'm really struggling with that)
Next topic : splitting up your time, practice, work, and family etc?
I've never done session work, and this is kind of a stupid question but how long do you get to come up with something?
usually....listen through the demo. take 5 mins to talk about vision and how each musicians role fits in...and then you go for it!
Soooo useful
Bi-pedal 😂😂😂😂🔥
Can you talk a bit more about tone and equipment, like pedals and interfaces and mics and stuff, like what all kind of equipment is important for studio work vs going on the road etc?
12:27 "Cause in the end it doesn't even matter"
someone listens to Linkin Park!

How’d you get Bob Rock in for the first two minutes?
mono or stereo, dry or with FX printed?
He said "iconic" and I just immediately thought of Ziwé 😅😅
dont know why, but i want to see cory wong play some metal dropD kind of stuffs.
Brilliant tips! Done a couple guitar sessions for other people recently and really feel like I could've done with these tips before hand. Will be sharing this video around with my musician friends
In a world where charts are dominated by music who lost guitars, What does it mean to be a guitarist in a band and in a solo career?
Oh I feel seen.
Been there, done that… LOL
Anyone got an ID on that sweatshirt?
Install Yousician for YouSession
Ok ... uh ... i think ill just try to be 2 Doplhins first and take it step by step xD
Theres a frame skip at 0:15, fight club shit.
thats exactly how 2 dolphins sound
his pants are so white that it lit up the room
a dream destroyed lol
I hate how technology is making everyone think they are a "musician" because the can click a mouse
Second.
Wow...congrats...
first couple minutes have this vibe ruclips.net/video/_LC0JjvAJt8/видео.html
First.
Wow...amazing...
