Jesus mxr is straight up murdering the overdrive pedal market these days... Between this and Duke of tone honestly how could there be a gritty tone they do not produce. Spent the last couple of years getting wicked into ehx and tc electronic stuff (which I still adore and use weekly, they are road worthy and sound absolutely top drawer) but mxr might be the next phase for me (no pun intended).
Wellll Allllrighty then!!! Sounds pretty clear and warm yet metal! (Classic) I'm gonna add this to my setup with a distortion pedal for extra METAL \m/
Very smart idea coming out with a better version of an ocd when fulltone stuff is skyrocketing in price. Id rather buy anything other than fulltone anyways. I still like the custom badass modified overdrive……my fav mxr drive pedal. Anyone know what kinda circuit it is? I always assumed it was based off an od-1 or sd-1……..like a modded dod250. Guess i could open it up and see when i get home, i know just enough about circuits to see what kind of clipping it is and sound like a dumass tryin to explain it…..lol
@@redeyeddogproductions4222 I think my tubes might be old. Probably need a change. But somehow, even when it was new, it didn't like pedals. I always play it on channel 3 in Mark 4 mode. No pedal can touch that tone.
I love this pedal & want one. Problem is they release it AND YOU CANT BUY ONE ANYWHERE.!!. I guess they decided to give away all their overstock to Utube reviewers. I've used mxr & Dunlop for years but looks like I'm done with this company.
@@joeytosi guitar center is Not a legitimate or respectable company. They ripped me of on a guitar I got through them. Months later I tried them again for just a pedal. Guess what, they ripped me off on that too and it took a month to sort out. Currently all my my Mxr & Dunlop products are in a huge box destined for donation to the college music program. I will Never do business with Mxr or Dunlop again. sorry for the rant...
On a side note, I've been trying for months to get a Carbon Copy delay & you can't get those either ! There are plenty of other companies out there that Want to do business such as : Keeley, Sey.Duncan, Native Audio, Missing Link etc. Not like Mxr or Dunlop hold the key to the only good tones. As for Guitar center, wouldn't do business again with them if they were the only company.
Almost every od pedal responds to dynamic so nothing new here. This new Mxr badass cuts a lot of bass from the signal...same old pedal like other millions out there. Sorry but this is sad true. We hope the next one will be better and more innovative.
What an Obscene Cool Device
Love the vintage vibe .
wow, well that was a trip! didn't see that ending coming.very cool sounds and tonal range
Always a lot of fun hearing what James comes up with for your demos.

I owned a few MXR pedals, this one is not my thing. Great Demo!
I am on the same page.
I haven't bought an overdrive since the tumnus deluxe. I am considering this.

Very nice!
Is this MXR's take on the OCD?
Sounds pretty close except a bit brighter
badass '78 also sounds like OCD
@@jomqwe that’s actually a DS-1!
@@nachogames6562 yeap, with the Keeley mods
@@FullMetalDMZ yup that is a ds-1

I'm pretty sure I saw Josh from JHS say it was based on an SD-1
@@luketylerguitar yead, sounds right. I heard it somewhere too, just couldnt remember
Based on OCD
is a Expandora type Overdrive
Nice!! 😎🤙
Review picks malmsteen signature
Full range pedal
so where do i buy one of these bad boys the super badass line is legit, I have the super badass variac fuzz and the super badass distortion as well
Is this designed primarily for a clean amp or will it work to push an already overdriven amp like an sd 1
Wonder how it would sound through a Mesa mark v
Probably not good. I have a Mark 5 and it doesn't play well with pedals.
That could be how you have it eqed. I have the 90 watt head and I run the badass modified od and it works great

Your preamp tubes might be worn, I use the mkiic+ mode. I have a video or two on my channel of it with the overdrive on
The baseline tone sounded like a thin fart, then you made it worse. A thin fart under a wet-blanket.
hahaaaa maybe he had some bad tacos?

Have you tried Guitar Center? It is a Guitar Center exclusive.

@@joeytosi Gross. Boycott Guitar Center, that place sucks.
Dude, I love this pedal. How many watts is it? Does it come with speakers? Asking for a friend
I like my Fulltone and Fender Hammertone a lot more than this MXR
sounds horrible, it doesn't sound like a tube amp plus very limited touch sensitivity and no top jacks is a big engineering flaw
this was a bad demo
