Why raise your landing gear 2 feet off the Damm ground
Bro's flight is overloaded and no picking up on speed or altitude so he retracted gear to reduce drag
After V1 and rotation you're going flying....period. There is insufficient runway left to stop and if you try you will likely die. So, get rid of the drag (the gear) ASAP and accelerate. What's smart in a complex single is not always the same as a jet.
So suck up the gear and then turn that speed into altitude so that you can clear terrain (if necessary). Energy is GOOD, especially on these older and relatively low powered jets (when compared to todays big ass fans). What he did was beautiful and extremely well done. Most magenta line-A/P cripples could not perform that maneuver.
