My favourite album. Do the whole thing Justin!!!
The movie you're thinking of is they live, starring classic WWF wrestler Roddy Piper. It's a pretty cool movie
I doubt anyone else is giving this a listen. Always appreciate your open mind.
I totally get that this is not for everyone but I'm glad that you're willing to expand your palate and check different things out. I'm personally sick of all the Radiohead and steely Dan reactions. That stuff gives me yawns
Punilux (Punishment of Luxury). Talk about obscure. Who's next, Fischer Z doing Pretty Paracetamol? Or maybe, The Angelic Upstarts? Saw Punilux in 79, they were support for The Skids, at Newcastle City Hall (Punilux are from Newcastle).
A punk band using 6/4?? I'm glad I was sat down.
excellent - they are still performing and this song is one of the stand outs of their live set.
Never heard of these guys. Very good. Thanx Jim!
My friend lent me this album when it came out and i absolutely loved it, he was and still is very much into Hawkwind, i see a similarity somehow, however, this band are unique and very talented. Thanks for bringing them back to my attention
This feels like a nice band to check out. Thanks
You constantly surprise me Justin, I didn't see this one coming! Sounded great too. Brian Bond is a creative genius.
Ty Terry!😁
I used to own this album (I recognize the cover) but I don't remember anything about it or this band. How about more Buzzcocks or Magazine? You seemed to like them, JP.
Great suggestions! From Magazine, their dark second album Secondhand Daylight (1979) would be an excellent choice in my opinion, and from the Buzzcocks, I'd go for A Different Kind of Tension (also 1979).
Thanks very much Justin. Really glad you liked it. The movie you are thinking of is They Live, though the lyrics make me think more of the old TV series The Invaders, which had the classic 'aliens walk among us' premiss. Apart from the great storyline, I love that Punishment Of Luxury (also known as Punilux) took the punk/new wave style and made it more complex. If you want to try something else of theirs, I'd stick with the Laughing Academy album. The title track is great and has XTC vibes, British Baboon is a tale of a nightclub predator with a great twist at the end, All White Jack is an anti-racism anthem and Obsession is inside the mind of a psycho-schizophrenic, but the whole album is up to this standard.
Saw them live back in 82. I was so fried, i remember literally nothing! 🤪
Hahahaha
Excellent. Fresh as a Daisy 🌼 blew the cobwebs away
It's typical of the period, but interesting. The band's name conjured up something I couldn't quite put my finger on, and suddenly I remembered I had their albums on a hard drive somewhere.... I'll have to listen to that again if I can get my hands on it!😀
By the way, Justin, the name of the movie you were trying to find is They Live by John Carpenter 😉.
I was going to write this off after the first 30 seconds but I stuck with it and by the end... yeah, okay. I'm not going to dismiss them so quickly but I'm still holding a big doubtful expression in reserve for if any further tracks push me that way.
(And a comment mentioning they are from up here in the north-east helped sway me in the Acceptable direction. I've lived up here for so long now I feel like I'm an honorary Geordie even if I do still let my Cornish upbringing show through sometimes.)
Now that, must be an interesting mix of accents!
I enjoyed that. It's much fancier than it pretends to be, for starters. Seems to "fold back on itself" every few verses - well to me anyway. So has this added "very slow count rhythm" over the moment to moment pulse of it. Well so I say, anyway.
Please check out Blackbraids awesome album Blackbraid 2, (Native American extreme metal). And Meryl Streeks unrelenting debut 796 quite possibly the angriest music ever but still beautiful
There is a more famous "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five.
Thought for a moment we were getting 'Punishment of Luxury' by OMD! Oh well perhaps in the future? As for the band 'Punishment of Luxury'... I'll give them a miss thanks.
Now i know why i haven't heard of them.
longest 4 mins of my life 🙄🥱
Why no Stranglers comment, or am i missing something?
Hey, there you are. 🙃
@@Owlstretchingtime78 SFTLR. And, no, you're not missing much. I'm just paring back a little on stuff. And that includes bands I do like, and some I don't. There's only so many times I can comment on bands who're hitting the channel time, and time again, and the current play list seems to be a bit of a glut of that:
Weather report, XTC, Peter Hammill, Genesis, Wishbone Ash, Yes/Anderson, Joni Mitchell, Jethro Tull.... All have made numerous appearances...I'm holding out for some newer, more interesting albums to appear :)
@@pentagrammaton6793 SFTLR, though I'm sure you didn't lose any sleep :) But aye, i'm still lurking in the long grass, biding my time... I'm just paring back a little on comments.
