This is one of my favorite Police tracks because it *is* just an extended jam session for the most part. While I can't deny the brilliance of Sting's songwriting on songs like Message In A Bottle, this song and the title track are them having fun and rocking out - before the dynamics in the group started to turn toxic.
The next track, Walking On the Moon, is the highlight of the album, IMO. To me, The Police is more about how they play rather than the music itself.
Oh! Has he been listening to the actual album track-by-track? 😀
And I agree with 'Walking On The Moon' being its highlight 🤩
It also has always been my favourite song of theirs 😍
@@mightyV444I keep trying to reply but I can’t. I think it’s the word d i s c o r d. Have you considered joining?
Sting channeling Bo Diddley with that bass riff.
This is one of tough things about listening to an album one track a t a time. There are several so called filler tracks on Regatta (Title track, Deathwish, etc) that when the album is listened to as a whole, are absolutely essential to the work of art that is the album. I feel like albums were made more this way in the past, with ebbs and flows, different feels, not just a collection of singles, where some of the impact(not all of course) is lost when the tracks are listened to separately.
Very well observed! 😍👍
How good they were
Copeland killing it again. Andy Summers was always going to turn up somewhere but I wonder where Sting would have ended up if Copeland hadn't pulled him out of a Geordie jazz band. Maybe he would have gone straight to the Lute music and skipped pop!
These guys could play Three Blind Mice and it would sound amazing!
They are SO TIGHT! Love this album and this song!
I understand it cannot be for everyone's taste. But for me it's a special (although deep) track. Not a highlight from this album, but a very good track. This and Bring On the Night are similiar in mood to the last tracks on the first side of the previous album - Hole In My Life and Peanuts. They lead us to unexpected places. The vicious and repetitve riff, a certain musical heaviness, the general mood, the lyrics, everything sounds quite mesmerizing to me. Love it.
"completely ok" - you nailed it
Dropping the 'non de plume' 'ole audiophile... I made quite sure which special copy of this I own, it's the stereo DSD SACD. This sorta explains the means to which I asserted I was an audiophile, I got boodles of catches like this for I'm sure I'm not alone in the search for the perfect delivery medium. Thanx
All three can really play! My biggest critique of Police are the lyrics. It seems that Sting hits the wall lyrically and repeats the chorus ad nauseam ala Spirits in the Material. Love Copeland’s percussion work!!
You can hear the same elements that are in the title song of the album "Reggatta de Blanc" and further "Can't Stand Losing You", from which "Reggatta" was improvised. Around this time they/ Sting had temporarily ran out of suitable ideas of album's worth. Thus the result is uneven. Again, please, react to "The Bed's Too Big Without You" - mono version.
I think you're right, this is a Copeland/Summers jam that Sting turned into a song. It's a great groove that makes for a bit of a filler track, but high quality filler at that.
I was waiting for something. Nothing really happened.
This song is great because of two things: tonal texture and mood
1111! Nice! 😃👍
Sounds like janes addiction on this.
A band we could do a whole lot more of!
@@Owlstretchingtime78 Yes they are great.
I would agree with you that this song was fine but certainly not their finest. But even a song like this, which to me sounds like a very short jam session, sounded SO MUCH BETTER because of those 3 guys!
I heartily disagree. I enjoy the hypnotic beat jamminess of it. Average compared to what? Sometimes I just have to say nuhuh, better than completely ok. It sits nicely in the album and adds some much appreciated dance grooves.
Hey, David. How’s the artist?

Fine I guess, I tried to get in a show and failed, wasn’t chosen…
tried to get ready, finish one, and spiffy up another for another show, wasn’t really happy and just gave up. I was so relieved, too stressful. So now, I’m recovering from tiredness and deflated ego… I’ll get over it, pretty much am. I like deadlines, they push me similar to my days of college and I need that. Thanks for asking. How are you holding up?
I’m sorry to hear about the show. I hope another opportunity comes up.
I’m good. I’m on a much needed break. Work was very stressful this spring and it was affecting my well-being.
@@-davidolivaresI’m doing a lot of gardening and that’s replenishing my spirit.

Nice, enjoy!
"Deathwish" is nothing to be ashamed of, but it never really manages to take off. For me, it's an average track.
I reckon it does take off a little bit towards the end, thanks to Stewart's drumming 😀
Just by itself and purely musically, I do agree, though 🙂
But what does make this song special to me is the memories connected with it from the times when I was 12, along with the rest of the album, and it also is a great 'driving' song 😊
Please…let me hear one of yours that is better.
Watcha mean
lol…meant for someone else who said it was a mediocre track…my favorite Police song is the one I happen to be listening to at the moment….be safe😊
@@PeterSokol-bl5vz i hear ya😁
