  • Had a a high end Christie sent in to be looked at for an unknown reason. After some testing I found the color wheel to be erratic. The unit was pretty dusty inside and had all the hallmarks of being dusty inside. I ended up replacing the lens in the lamp since it only had a few hours on the bulb. This model takes two of the 003-004449-01 lamps that can be bought here www.purelandsu... . Thanks for watching.

Been drooling over this marvel of engineering! Of course I have no use for it but I believe it does not hurt dreaming! Excellent video Frank!

LOL. Me too. It's so pretty. I keep trolling eBay looking for used high end projectors, but they are still fetching prices out of my range.

Seing inside this projector really made me think about what we take for granted in smaller domestic projectors compared to this monster!

It was a BEAST! I have a pair of Sanyo's that are very similar to this. Not quite as big but definitely as complex.

Hey frank. Well i took it back apart and im proud to say i fixed it! What i was missing was i didnt pay close enough attention to the stationary 8 or so pin thing that the mother board sits on. I actually bent it behind the metal part when i put that in under the board. Im so impressed and so happy thank you so much for the videos. Ill be passing your name on . have a great night and hope your doing ok with this corona virus chaos. Thanks again for your hard work. Take care.

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know Brian! I have done that more times than I care to admit. Enjoy the projector and stay healthy and safe as well.

I wish I had watched this video when I had the cover of my DHD775-E projector. Luckily on mine C- wheel and the whole projector was much cleaner. Scary to go through all this refine details.

Nice job doing that. FYI, I had to scrap a DHD-775E, so I have all the parts except the mechanical attchment for the lens and sevrala plastic pieces of the enclosure....I am however looking for a scrapped lens for those projectors. I only need the gray metallic place that secures the lens to the projector. Can you help?

I dont think I have anything, but contact the parts folks I use. Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com Give them as much info as you can. IF you have a picture (even from a website) of the part, that will help a bunch.

I purchased this used, and just received it today. My unit appears to be VERY clean in the lamp and lens area, looks new. I haven't taken off the top. It didn't come with a cord, so I used a power cord from another less capable projector that I had. The Christie powers up, I initially get green on lamp 1, and shutter and status. I can access the menu. In about 3 minutes, it shuts off and I get a red flashing status light, which I know indicates a fan failure. Is this something that I can fix myself (I can build a computer) or if I need to have it fixed, what ballpark repair cost am I looking at? Actually - now that I'm thinking about it - this projector was cold and giving me that problem. I'm guessing rather than a FAN being the problem - that the thermistor/temp sensor has failed. Also ---Do you have a source for parts as I need a remote. Thanks!

Its probably a fan like the LED's are telling you. There are a ton of fans inside, so I would recommend doing a visual exam with the cover off and fire it up. I bet you see a fan not spinning or making a noise. I have a few other videos on testing fans in various projectors. The rules hold the same for your projector. The error reporting in these is really good. I would follow what the projector is telling you. The chances of a temp sensor failing is really low. There are many temp sensors in this model and you would likely get a different set of error codes from the LEDs. One thing you might want to try is connecting to it via the LAN interface and use your web browser to get to the control panel and see if it reports which fan is acting up. Most of the time they will tell you "Fan 1 or Fan 2"etc via that interface. That would be on my list of checks for sure. Depending on the fan you need, you can get most of them via eBay or mouser or normal parts sources. They tend to use pretty standard fans with PWM fan stall reporting in these. Some projectors use signal hi on stall when the fan acts up but higher end projectors like this one tend to actually report the RPMs so the fans tend to be PWM output on the status wire. You will see what I mean if you search for the fan videos. You can search "fan" on the video page but to get you started, this is probably worth watching first. ruclips.net/video/kCOSQ8dVZvc/видео.html

I have a projector that is 6 yrs old that turns on, everything works, but it shuts itself down after 5 min. I feel like it is a heat issue. It is a christie dwu-550g. Not even sure how to open it to give it some air. Any quick advice?

    • @FixitFrank

Definitely can help. www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/projector_manual_7531.pdf Here is the manual. Check page 26 (manual page 2-8) for the LED error codes. They are pretty detailed in their error reporting. If the status led flashes red quickly, that is a fan error. If it lights red and no blink, that is overheating. There are plenty of other codes, I would check that first before opening anything. It might even be a bad/failing lamp assembly. The LED codes will get you much closer and prevent any wild goose chases which can get expensive on a beast like this.

So i got bored and decided to fix my benq projector. I didnt have the 5mm so finshed the video and waited to find one. Once i did i did not rewatch the video...i know smart right?. Hi Brian, I'd check to see if you plugged the temperature fuse back in. The 2 wires that go to the rectangle thing on the blower fan. That will prevent the power from coming on to put it in standby and Ive forgotten that wire many times.

Initially i google trouble shooted. And first things that poped up was bulb was bad so i changed that last month only to have the same issues. Then i learned about the color wheel. When it turns on its stroby and off color. So i found your video and cleaned the sensors and it seems to rotate relatively freely. Am i correct to assume if it doesn't work that it would be a color wheel issue or is there something i didn't read about yet. From what i saw i. Your video the color wheel spins extremely fast. Mine was noticeably slower. So im assuming that's the issue. One last thing idk if it matters.(i wish i had your number i hate typing lol) the power cord im using is from my guitar amplifier is there a chance it isnt the correct amount of power?
