Happens to every fisherman anywhere. They just don’t show it. I’ve been fishing for like 10 years and just the other day I lost 4 brand new lures back to back. Just gotta move on

It's such a relief to see that at least some parts of your outings look exactly like mine - I mean getting lures out of trees, cleaning salad off hooks, and losing fish that you thought were on.

I had a nice pike this morning. 42.5 inch and 18.2lbs. Took a 5 inch swimbait from westin in gold perch color. Such a good fight. When it hit it felt like a tiny pike, just a thump, and after 30 seconds she would not leave the bottom then i knew it was a bigger fish. Great film again my friend. I use the savage gear rad rat 10 inch, just bent the lip way back so it cant dive. So much fun
Matt, I’m a die hard musky guy! That musky was MUCH bigger than 40!! I’d put her at 43 - 45! Great job!! 👍👍

This why , when I reel in close I keep in the water as much as possible. I don’t short it when it’s close.

We have to go offshore to get a fish like that. I love fishing for bass at night with a mouse just barely wiggling. Took me awhile to get used to night casting for them. It's all audible and helps to know the water layout.

I have only watched the intro so far and I know this will be good. But I wanted to record my gratitude to you sir. Can't say enough how you have made me such a better fisherman.
Saturday I hit a river I've only visited twice before. Still learning where the best stretches are. Thought I got into a section that was too shallow but I ended up joining a local that has lived on the river for 20 years. After an hour or so we fished a stretch and I hooked into a decent pike about 30 - 35 inches using your techniques and a Whopper Plopper. He screamed "dude I've been fishing this river for 20 years and I never caught a pike out here!"
Caught my PB smallie at 2.14lbs (only my 2nd smallie all this time I thought I have but now I know they were just smaller large mouth.)
After a 5 hr float I was the only one to land any fish. This has been the best for me. Spent my whole life fishing from my dad's boat in the Great Lakes and lately I'm changing everything up going the kayak route and fishing rivers for the smallie and largies. Appreciate you.
For a river catch, that's one epic musk for sure. We'll worth the grind.

Excellent work right there! Probably my all time favorite is the SPRO rat, tried the BBZ30 and was amazed how many lmb demolish the rat then moved up to that 50 and super exciting having them blow up on that thing.

I love that you full send that thing right up into a tree! I don’t know home many $17 whopper Ploppers of mine I can still see hanging when I go fishing.
I appreciate you including your mess ups in your videos. We have all caught a low hanging branch or overshot our target location with our casts before. It’s refreshing to see someone keeping it so honest in their video.

I call those catches temporary trolling motors. Snagged a big carp once that towed me around for an hour before I finally cut the line. Many Pike did it also.

Tied into a 5lb Peacock in the Everglades that made mine shake like that but they shook more when the 10' Alligator swam close to the boat! Keep the vids coming Matt (the best on youtube), they're what get me through from early winter till I hit the Glades!

I just got back from fishing catfish in a little town called Caledonia, Ontario. Caught some nice ones for the size of the river, about 5-6 pounds. Are you thinking about doing another catfish video? I'd love to see it!

Cool. I have to laugh at times at the things that can go wrong. Last week I broke 6” off my rod. Caught two trees. Love it tho….. keep going back. Thanks for sharing

Was betting musky the whole way. Ive accidently caught them doing that ecact same thing. Thinking you're done with the cast and speeding up the retrieve for the next cast...BAM! Boatside crash!

I second that. A lot of hang-ups and slow days are edited out by RUclipsrs to make themselves look better. You keeping those in gives much more credibility to your channel. Having said that, I still think you had a great day with the monster and smallie you caught!!!
An average day, even a slow day watching you fish is better than most guys reeling in their pb's. Such a good channel.

That was a 40”+ Musky all day. Maybe close to 44”. Tremendous job from the best RUclips angler. Nothing beats the top water musky strike. Except the next top water musky strike.

Broke my favorite rod Thursday because I cast into a tree and then got all wrapped up in the tree, kayak, rod.. BAM!#** broken rod tip. I'm an idiot. haha. Not sure how I"ve missed you all this time but I'm subbed now. Will be fun getting caught up. I'll OD for a day or two. Whew, now that's what I call a hit. Wow, what a beauty. I've never done the larger Northern Specials like Musky and Pike. What a thrill. That was a nice Small Mouth also. Thanks for the ride.
I let myself drift into a tree yesterday and had all three of my rods bent up in the branches. I got really lucky none of them broke!
Nice job! I caught a 19 inch river Smallie a week ago and posted a vid of it! I was surprised to get one that big at that spot and he even drew blood!

The river by me in mich has musky but water is so dirty now and flow so slow sense the dams blew 2 years back hope it gets back to normal one day great video keep it up
Finally got out on the water this week. So peaceful and quiet. Lots of blue gills, sun fish, and 1 12 inch large mouth. Restored my calm. The world is so stressful and that 4 hours helped.
Hooking a musky that big with very little line out is a thrill like no other…good job not losing that fish. 👊🏻
I fish the same river often and just picked up one of those mouse lures. Can't wait to try it out

Epic Musky! Great video! I think your hook set issue was that they hit when the bait was way out on the longest part of your cast. Tough with so much line out. Awesome!
mans out here with the determination of catching a monster with only 1 lure that's longer than some of the fish I catch. And the determination was well paid off.
I had a little more action out there today, only 1 muskie landed but I missed a couple others and hooked into a few little pike.
Brother, that was absolutely amazing! I know you’ll never forget that catch. I’m in Texas now sinds 2017 but spend 30 years growing up in Amsterdam NL. I had the same fight ones with 127 cm pike on a big Rapala jointed wooden jerk/swim bait with the blue top and silver bottom. That fight was just as violent, an absolute monster I’ll never forget.. I was by myself screaming for someone to help me land it as I was on a very steep bank on a main river channel. I hooked that fish before and it scared the crap out of me when i hooked it the first time but never saw it good because it was so big that it wouldn’t come up before I lost it. I went back to that same spot right in front of a big tunnel under a very big bridge and caught this absolute freak after about a year and a half trying.. it was a very special catch to me and many others that just wanted to see the fish because many knew about it but never caught it or saw it. Seeing you today brought me back in time, like so many of your videos! Because of you I bought a smaller kayak set up just for river fishing and I really enjoy it. We don’t have many options here but I’m fishing the Colorado river in Texas and it’s amazing brother, thank you for sharing your experience with us 🤙

Never easy to prepare for that first cast fish! As much as we anticipate it, part of us wants to make us think that it's not likely. Kinda like stretching before a workout. Sometimes it takes a few casts to get into the zone. Great catch at 8:08!!

Great catch! I agree with you sometimes you have to work all day for the fish but it's rewarding when you catch them! Also, thanks for the rat lure idea. I'm a big believer that the bigger baits you use the bigger fish you will catch!
I wish Spro still made them, heard rumors they might be coming back though. There’s some knock offs that look almost identical but I haven’t tried them to see if the action is similar.

Speaking of trees ... last October I tossed a "Spook"across a local canal and caught a tree. This Spring, with the canal drained, I went back and rescued it. Along with a few others. Some trees are just more aggressive than others 😂
