You may note that the games doesn't look like 60 even if the fps counter shows 60. That's bc of my recording sadly.
are you preparing to revisit the topic of similar Orange Pi 5X product with box86 box64 even steam latest gaming review?
well, opi 5 series are a complete different product. way more powerful yet expensive hw.
This is awesome! I didn't quite catch, which model was this (how much RAM)?
4GB ram one.
Well, it's amazing for the price. Just don't expect it to be fast haha they are 4x low power cores. But it's fun to play with it bc of the price.
@@microlinux I'm wondering how it would handle Batocera for some lower-power emulation. That, or a cheap way to play mid-2000s PC games (source games) and newer 2D titles like you tested. All for $35, that's a pretty good deal!
@@dylan_00 the "new" titles were linux x86_64 ones, there is a lot less overhead than wine stuff. Don't expect new windows titles to work at all haha. Batocera should run fine on mainline.. in fact, I should test it.
I would love a Batocera test, especially if they already have an image ready to go. I would love to stick one of these out in my arcade cabinet. As for x86 games, I figure Windows games from the mid 2000s should probably run acceptably well, like Half Life and Half Life 2? Probably nothing much more than that if I had to guess @@microlinux
How on EARTH do you have access to those exclusive images? Just curious because I've been waiting for an Orange pi zero 3 image from Armbian since 2 months'ish ago and they still haven't delivered.
Still, great video... and great board.
I didn't. It's nothing exclusive. Just built armbian jammy with legacy kernel for the orabge pi3b with the armbian builder (without desktop). Booted, installed ubuntu-desktop, added amazingfate ppa for rockchip multimedia, then woth apt installed chromium,mpv,ffmpeg... everything has vpu acceleration then. Gpu works out of the box but for vpu you need the media framework ppa from amazingfate ppa.
The armbian builder is publicly open source. I built my own armbian images with it on my rock5B.
Orange pi zero 3 uses allwinner, it's completely different
@@microlinux Alright, thanks for your explanation. (I'm really trying to rev up my game and come up with my own images instead of relying on third parties.)
@@GustavoMsTrashCan armbian releases are mostly on mainline, bc the board performs decently on mainline, it even has vpu for h264 on mpv (with amazingfate mainline vpu ppa) like I shown on the mainline video. Armbian user's prefer mainline at all cost, even at the cost of losing some vpu acceleration. Gpu is accelerated by panfrost like here (this is an strange case in which both legacy rockchip kernel and mainline use the same panfrost mesa driver)
I see the github image link posted for the RK3588 pi5. Is there one for this demonstrated RK3566 pi 3B? Have you installed the image to bootable emmc storage? Thank you for sharing.
Well, no, It just be the same on opi images once they fix their issues woth the device tree (already fixed at armbian). I made my own system with the armbian builder, armbian jammy cli on legacy kerbel, then installed ubuntu-desktop at first boot. It seems that armbian releases won't deal with rk linux and they decided to just offer mainline linux.. so, I will be testing that soon. Specially bc those are the releases, there is no legacy kernel release at armbian afaik. One can build your own of course, but that's not a thing for normies (even if it's not that hard to do on arm64 linux, I use my rock5b to build armbian umages)
Yes, I mentioned that I did installed it into the emmc. I booted from sd, then copy it to the emmc from armbian-config. I have a video demo os such from last month. In this case, bc I didn't have an opi emmc but a pine64 one. I had to set boot on the mtd (the spi) system on something else, then emmc. But on opi emmcs should be just boot on the emmc, system on the emmc. That will copy your sd system to the emmc.
I checked opi3b armbian site, there are rk 5.10 builds at the bottom, but no jammy release (only trixie which is debian and lunar), so the amazingfate ppa will not have the packages for that one for vpu.
I have a problem where install of any image to the emmc storage will not boot after setup/updates. Since nobody seems to have a solution yet everyone knows about it, I would say that orangepi doesn't seem like good value at all.
@@MrTuxit09 your mileage may vary depending your skills. The hw it's an excellent value. But opi should do a much better job on their images for the normies.
Can you please update this image. Because this image is not properly loaded for Opi3b v2.1
ehhh yeah, I could, but it turns out you can just use joshuas ubuntu releases. also, nowdays there are armbian builds for opi3b, but I would recommend joshuas ones, check the video description for joshuas github repo.
i will make an update video on that board
@@microlinux defencedog from github ...thanks very much
i want to use orangepi cm4 with uconsole will this tutorial work the same?
This wasn't particularly a tutorial, but yeah, it should work the same. You get an opi3b image, edit /boot/armbianenv.txt and chance the FTD path to your cm4 dtb instead of opi3b.
@@microlinux thank you very much
@@nnoo inf things I am not so sure it's about the display, it may use an overlay you will have to add manually. You will see that overlay somewhere on official uconsole software. But yeah, if you are planning to use opi cm4 on uconsole and they don't support that.. prepare for troubleshooting
@@microlinux i appreciate the extra info, I will do my best to configure but it may be beyond my pay grade, im more of a windows guy truth be told.
@@nnoo then prepare for failures. Success it's at the very end.
how did you managed to enable wifi? i downloaded your img and i cant enable wifi, i tried apt-get update and armbian-config but there is no wireless to activate.
i think you have a different model with a different wifi chip.
@@microlinux mine is orange pi 3B 8gb ram 😢
@@mayday2011 but its the newer model with the new wifi chip and the new relocated m.2?
@@mayday2011 i will make a quick update video on this board.
@@mayday2011 dont worry, you bought a great board for the price.. grab armbian or ubuntu from joshua.
Buenas, podrás recomendarme algún SBC que pueda correr blender 3? segun leo hace falta soporte para OpenGL 3.3.
Gracias!
Where do I download this image?
Check my video on the armbian build for opi3b
Please make an XFCE4 image ... ^ God Bless you from Pakistan
yeah, I will make an xfce4 one. thanks
@microlinux And sir please provide a link. I do also believe that you can make a dietpi image (with GUI being the headache of the user) ... I installed dietpi it ran OK ... however GPU as usual didn't allow me to use it as home media server via JellyFin
