After seeing Transformers One opening weekend, I was lucky to find him at the local GameStop. I told myself that he was going to be my Christmas present this year, so I waited three months to finally open him, and after playing with him for an hour, I love him!
It was nice to hear the Earthrise being recognized as the good Optimus Prime toy it is. I love every version of it I ended up buying. Especially those unique ones. Looking at you Nemesis and Dead Optimus. But with that said, having SS86 in hand is such a joy! Being able to pick up and play and transform back and forth is absolutely delightful!! You get that magic of “wow! That square-ass truck just became a heroic action figure and I made that happen!” Sometimes it even feels like a Rubik’s cube to fiddle with and change around. A true evolution for the Optimus Prime main line figure. I’m absolutely delighted with it and will absolutely buy the eventual Nemesis Prime. Though would I buy a white Magnus version? 🤔 Perhaps not. Maybe? SS86 Magnus is so good, but.. Sorry, I’m going off on a tangent! Loved your video!

I loved both Siege and Earthrise Optimus, but I am still excited to get this one in hand. That transformation looks wonderful, tons of tactility that I am very into.
The idea of 9 primes complaining about favouritism, while 4 get to ride in comfort up top they just have to be smooshed into the undercarriage, is very amusing.
I posted about this in the Fb groups, but my experience with this figure has been QC issues across the board. Mine has two of the same ears installed, so it looks like one ear is backwards, with the sprue mark being visible at the front. Because of this, it causes a gap in the two halves of the head, and the ears look janky. The right thigh has a slight stress mark from where the parts were ham-fisted together. The lower rear feet are misassembled. One rear foot part is missing the entire tail light paint application. There are also other paint application issues present. I have not removed him from the cardboard. Will just be returning him, and probably stick to the Earthrise Prime. After posting my own issues, so many other people have come forward with their own to the point that it makes me not want to mess with this figure again. I contacted Toy Arena, where I purchased it to initiate a exchange or refund. They viewed the FB messages, but did not reply back, and no responses to emails yet. My gut feeling is I am going to have to force a return to Paypal over this one.
Sorry to hear it. One of my foot tailights has an iffy grey paint application, but otherwise my copy's been pretty solid. Hope you are able to get your issues resolved!
He looks nice, but I think I'm gonna wait for a Wicked or Nemesis repaint. Between ROTB, Legacy Laser, Legacy Animated, Legacy Armada, Reactivate, Gamer Edition, and the upcoming Legacy G1, I've really had maybe a bit too many Optimus Primes coming in lately!

I have the earthrise mould with optimus and the siege mould with nemesis from the spoiler pack. I like both but earthrise will always have a special place on my shelf but SS is mind blowing perfection
Great looking figure. I do hope DNA comes out with an upgrade kit for him tho. I am not a fan of his ears for one. They would do something to cover up the gaps on the side of his hips. Make some kind of side hip skirt for him, and maybe something to fill in the gap in the truck mode. But really.. it's all small nit picks. He's a great figure and I can't wait to get the two I have on Preorder. I got one for bot, one for alt. First mainline I have ever got two of.
I considered grabbing two, but the transformation is so fun and elegant that I think I’ll just stick with the one since it’s so enjoyable to transform.
The boosters are a cute edition that harks back to masterpiece (and third party toys/addon kits) including references to a thing they did exactly once. Naturally it's best when there's some play value outside that moment, like the axe.
Yeah, It's neat that they included them, I just wonder if there's anything better that could have been done. Although if they were molding the axe in orange anyway maybe it didn't add much overall to the production budget.
Got SG ER and its awesome. Scales mint with SS38 and SS102 Nemesis Prime. But now got this 86 n no "evil" optimus to put up next to it. Trying to find maybe a 3p Nemesis or SG thatll look good next to 86. Really would like to see how the MMC looks. Lol found a good deal on the SG but hesitant to buy it.
To prevent the red side panel from chipping when it goes in the leg, the screws near the front feet needs to be slightly unscrewed. This allows the side of the gap for the side panels to be pulled and make it easier to insert the panels in and out without worrying the red paint chipping. Also to prevent the bottom part of the bumper from paint scraping when transforming it is to have the blue bottom piece down first then firmly hold the top of the back and slowly pull down the back while avoiding the end of the bumper from hitting the top. These are some tips Overall I say this is the best G1 Optimus Prime toy made even better than all the Masterpiece. The back does not bother me.
12:40 how would i risk damaging it by removing the pin? Seems like a pretty simple process. Anyone care to share why this may be damaging? Nice review btw. I do feel the vehicle mode got way more time than the bot mode though.
It depends on how you do it. There are a lot of safe ways. My old method involved a small pin or rod and a hammer, and sometime that would slip and either mar the toy or injure my fingers.
I missed out on the Amazon preorder BUT last week while checking Amazon the preorder opened again and was able to place an order. The listing was probably open for a day because I checked the following day and the preorder was unavailable. Mine arrives mid next week. So pumped.
Already ordered mine for the second wave but I’m gonna keep my Earthrise due to sentimental value and it’s resemblance to MP-10 (especially if you’ve added the trailer upgrade kit and toyhax stickers). SS86 on the other hand is much more like MP-44

Love your review but I think the blast accessory is a good choice. Other than the leap his takeoff was a highlight in his limited screen time. And the MP didn’t have that effect.

Someone said the best point about the differences between the Studio series Optimus and the Earthrise one. If the two designs were DC versions of the G1 design, Earthrise is Zack Snyder Superman and Studio series is James Gunn Superman
You may not think them blast effects arnt as impressive but you give it to a professional photographer for an hour and after hes got in in decent lighting and added some smoke effects i guarentee it looks awsome
@@peaugh meeeeeee toooo. I was a hair from buying one off of eBay for $129. I decided to make sure one more time he wasn't in stock elsewhere before giving a scalper money. Glad I did. He was cheaper, but more importantly, I gave a great shop my business instead of a cancer on collectors.
You should please be aware that for the under storage, there is a little latch. That gray facade pops out first to unlatch it all! Don't break yer trailer frenz!
Gotta disagree, I love the truck blastoff effects. It's just such a cool and iconic scene, even if it doesn't translate that well - it's *that* scene! For me, I just wish he had a deeper elbow bend and that hip skirts weren't a thing, like the Earthrise did with the hips. I really wish all hip skirts were eliminated. Otherwise, looks about perfect.
Oh, I don’t hate them at all, I just think it was an interesting choice to put the tooling/manufacturing costs/effort to recreate half a second from the movie. I’m not opposed, just curious why that and not something else.

My Prime's cab also sits ever so slightly forward as well. Everything's tabbed in correctly, but there's still a light angle. So it's not only yours.

I don’t think MP-44 is crummy, but it’s definitely very intricate and overly engineered to the point of not being super enjoyable to transform.

This didn't replace earthrise optimus, I still kept all 4 of them.
