I love hearing positive feedback from people who relocate to Myrtle, I’ve talked to a lot of locals and you always hear nothing but the best… Looking forward to retiring there myself in about 4 years.
Cons: traffic, heat, humidity, tourists, parking fees, horrible, HORRIBLE drivers, pollen season. Pros: Beach, great weather(yes i know hurricanes), palm/palmetto trees. Lots of things to do around the area outside of myrtle, many places with great food. Open carry state. No regrets moving here. Would we move back to pa? Heck no! Thanks for sharing Carmen and Brian
Funny the pollen here is better than where we moved from in NC. There were tons of huge trees everywhere there so it was really bad. Glad you have no regrets like us! :)
@CarmenandBrian but then again we live in Conway. I think the pollen is worse and the heat & humidity is just as bad. The pollen was not bad this year. I swear our next car will be yellow, lol
I am in such anxiety about moving to Myrtle Beach, missing my friends and family, and having more cultural resources, but I can't afford to stay where I am! I appreciate your sharing very much.

Yes and they are both in Charleston also. Since we're in Myrtle Beach both are quite a haul. We usually go by Charleston on our way back from Florida to pick stuff up.
I wish I found your channel three weeks ago. My wife and I vacationed there for two weeks and yes I love North Myrtle but explored all of South Myrtle as well! I am planing on moving there next year for 6 month and 6 months in NY
We just moved to Conway. I agree with all your positives. I have one negative to add-the cost to register a car and the yearly taxes to pay on it. But hey, living near the beach and so many choices of things to do negates that. 😊
Thanks for the good information. You’ve given us a few things to think about. We are planning on moving to MB in a few years but we need specialized healthcare…
Most likely, depending on how specialized, you'll have to go to MUSC in Charleston. That's a one and a half to 2 hour drive one way depending on where you live in the Myrtle Beach area.
Totally Awesome Video!.......Been going to The Grand Strand for over 40 years....Heading back again in August....I have always Dreamed about retiring and moving there....Great Stuff...Thank You

I am thinking about moving here with my younger two sons and hubby. Only thing holding me back is how much I will miss my parents and friends. But I am tired of being miserable here. I live in a not so great area in Connecticut. I know it’ll be a huge change but I’m ready for it. Been thinking of this since I was 21. In 29. This encouraged me to move.
I gotta wait until my sons older to move down but some benefits that I see to is 1. Fun things to do always 2. Jobs 3. Food options 4. The beach as you said 5. Fishing options 6. Paradise me personally I’m more happier when I’m down there versus anywhere else
Moved to the Conway/ myrtle beach area in 2006. My job transfer didn't happen so I got screwed on that. Husband is a very skilled welder with decades of experience and it was pulling teeth to get $12/hr. If you think you're going to get a well paying job think again. And housing costs are out of sight. Horrendous traffic in the summer. Allowed 1hr to drive 15 miles to work. That's my 2cents. We got out

We have been thinking about moving to the area as we are retiring soon. We looked in Florida in the insurance and property cost have gone to high so moving to the myrtle beach area to look around plan on a few trips between now and the end of the year. What do u think of little river and conway?
Oh wow, I always kinda thought you grew up in the area. I have to watch your moving series now! I'm hoping to move down there in retirement...hopefully in about 9 yrs. So can you say whereabouts you moved from? So AGREE on the flat, I like to bike the rail trails here in Maryland because they're flat and always bring my bike down with me on vacation because you can just ride everywhere down there...no hills!!
very cool on the video, pro's and cons. nice to share that with folks. something to share with folks maybe is are you both still working, or are you retired? sometimes that makes a huge difference to people coming to the area. if you have jobs that you can work from home or remote, makes a huge difference, jobs in the area are tough i believe, depending on what you do. its so funny how i read people move to south carolina or to the beach and don't do some homework first about things, as you stated. doctors, insurance, etc. then they can't find jobs if still working, then move back home, or can't make it there. it is paradise there, but you have to no what is good for you and your family. but so great that your willing to share all that with your fans. keep up the good work. enjoy your videos. venture up to NMB more, please lol
When we moved here I was still working remotely. I would hope someone would research the job market or have one lined up prior to moving but I guess not everyone thinks that way. :)
You didn't mention the low property taxes. Once you have lived for a full calendar year, you get rebates for tourist tax and you pay no school tax. For seniors you can get a homestead exemption and a military exemption that further reduces taxes. This combined took a $3500 tax bill down to $1000 (living within Myrtle Beach city limits).
Great points if in the city limits and the homestead exemption.! We have a detailed video on the residential property tax process. ruclips.net/video/zJhFsJ2AolQ/видео.html
We want to do this so so bad but we are scared of the floods and sad to leave other daughter who is reluctant to come. I’m at the age where I’m ready been for years and I probably just have to take the leap
It is definitely hard being away from family. That's probably the toughest part. And yes the storms are not fun either. Good luck with your decision! I can say that we do not regret ours.
I'm new to your channel, so forgive me if this already has been asked; why did you leave North Carolina? I used to live in Charlotte and loved it before moving West for a job.
We had a vacation home in Myrtle Beach for 20 years before we moved. We spent every weekend and vacation we could at Myrtle Beach and decided that's where we wanted to live.
Well Carmen I liked this video alot. Why? Because since I retired 3 years ago its always been a place my wife and I were going to move. She passed away 10 years ago from cancer but still want to do it. I want to move to the garden city beach Murrells Inlet area so I'm actively searching with realtors. I need a house big enough for my kids and grandkids to come. Maybe if I win the lottery all will be fixed lol. Thanks for all your videos. The pros out weigh the cons. I already live in SC. Spartanburg. Larry
Glad you enjoyed the video! I’m sorry about your wife. We pass through the Spartanburg area on the way to visit my family that lives in the North Carolina mountains. We were fortunate because property was worth a lot more were removed from than it is here. Obviously depends on where you want to live here, but overall the housing is cheaper here than where we moved from.
@@CarmenandBrianwell where I'm looking to move there is the garden city beach area or Murrells Inlet. Say hi when you come through Spartanburg we are friendly southern people. Id love to meet you and Brian on one of our trips down to the beach
My husband and I have thought of retiring to Myrtle Beach( 5 years ) but as you said the traffic is terrible in the summer. Still thinking of snowbirding for a month or two in the off season. I think we would miss our family too much to move full time. Do you live in your vacation home or did you move somewhere else?
Tourist season runs roughly from March through the end of October. There's also a peak around Thanksgiving and around New Year's. The busiest time is May through August.
More entertainment, easier access to more non-tourist stores like Costco, Kohl's, Sam's Club, Coastal Grand Mall, etc., closer to Charleston for "big city stuff", but mostly that's where we've had a vacation home the last 20+ years so we just like that area.

Where did you move from? Im asking because to give context to your perspective of living there (ex someone moving from a small rural area versus someone moving from an urban area, etc. )
Ok. Yes we would be moving from a pretty big Midwest city and used to a lot of amenities! Also, I think the winter onslaught of tourists and traffic may be a dealbreaker for us. Thanks!!

I have two realtors that I’m working with to find me a nice condo, preferably I would like to stay in North Myrtle Beach that is where I’m looking. I like barefoot Landing, and a few other areas. Tell me what area you live in and what you would recommend out of the flood area?
There are FEMA maps that can help you find out if what you are looking at is in a flood zone and your realtor should be able to advise you as well. There can be flood zones within a neighborhood while other parts of it aren't a flood zone so it's really important to look at those maps. Good luck!
