10:27 just wanna point out that she says "invest" and not "invent", which means chemtech probably already existed for a good while but Renata was the first one to see it's marketable potential
Despite her being pretty unambiguously evil with her wanting to destroy Piltover, She also seems to have done more good for Zaun than most of the "heroes". She has started a major business that presumably employs thousands of workers, provides cheap equipment for the Zaunite workers, and even handed out free masks during a chemical disaster. All of her wealth was created through legitimate inventions and takeovers, rather than sabotage and brute force tactics. (Though it does sound like she forces some inventors to work for her?) Obviously a large part of that is in service to destroying Piltover, but to the Zaunites I wouldn't be surprised if she is unambiguously a hero. She reminds me of Lex Luthor.
That or Doom lol. Though out of both of them it def seems to me less pride of " behold, ME, I AM RIGHT" and more so her showing the world she isnt that weak girl, her parents were fools, etc ( even if she cared for them. They are naturally good natured - she just stomped hers far far down in a sense)
Yeah, I really don't think Camille would ever be the hero of the story tbh but more like an enemy to the anti-hero that is Renata- unless Riot decides to be really fuckin tone deaf I guess
Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if she is considered a hero and savior for zaunites , and compared to Camille she does more good then evil and would say she's more sympathetic, so i wouldn't call her a villain she walks the lines of anti villain and anti hero
Would Orianna be immune to Renata's mind control gas/poison? I mean...since she doesn't have organic lungs or brains! Also, how is Orianna not mentioned while both have such a connection to the Chemical disaster in Zaun!
Because Orianna isn't a notable character and I doubt anyone even knows she exists. To everyone except her dad, she's just yet another robot walking the streets of Piltover.
7:43 Both of those phrases are true to real life. The difference between a medicine and a poison really is the dosage in many cases which is why it's so important to give the correct amount for the desired effect. Similarly for the comparison between the surgeon and a butcher because but have experience with anatomy and cutting things up, but the goals are different. Should we call Camille a butcher despite her surgical precision because she's killing people instead of healing them?
Quick fun fact: „The difference between mecidine and poison is the dosage“ is a famous quote by Paracelsus, a swiss doctor and philosopher. The sentence is quite common in swiss german, my father used to say it a lot.
8:00 there was a Joker toxin in one of the Batman Animated Movies that was separated into three beauty products and only activated when all the were applied. Only the people that had money and status could afford to buy all three products if I remember correctly which targeted the rich without doing harm to the poor.
I feel like Renata is one of those 'Ozymandias' heroes. While she's more grounded and isn't as idealistic as her parents were. She still has their good nature imbedded in her. Sure she wants to take over the Sun Gate and her Mind control/Berserk products are everywhere in Piltover and Zaun. I think it's a bit of a Chekhov's Gun in which she might actually end up being the one that saves Piltover and Zaun. or Ends both.
she did say that she loves the city but IF she needs to burn it down to take down piltover well... as from that quote pretty much saying that she will do everything to take down Piltover. I wouldn't call her hero but I can't really her a villain either..
@@lag00n54 yeah that's why I call her an Ozymandias hero like in Watchmen because he did villainous things for the greater good. The biggest giveaway for me was when she still cursed Janna for not helping Zaun when they needed her the most. The Chemtech incident was what started Renata on the path to power so she should actually be thanking Janna's lack of interference but to still be cursing her for it shows she actually cared about Zaun and Piltover.
"The difference between medicine and poison is the dosage" is actually a reference to a quote from an ancient philosopher Paracelsus, who said that "The dose makes the poison". But it's just a little nitpick, I love your videos and as always, great work!
She is so well written (and well voiced, might I add) and has such interesting depth to her. Genuinely surprised that Riot would make such a bad-ass champion of an older woman. It's wonderful. 7:13 had me tearing up ♥
I genuienly hope that Riot won't continue this trend that they started with Arcane, and instead every story related content in other media will be canon to the core universe. If it isn't then it will just confuse people who watched Arcane for example. I really hope that they either make Arcane canon and rewrite Piltover's story around it, or not do this same thing with the other seasons, IF they will be set in new regions
The problem is Arcane is a planned out narrative experience while LoL is a spread out worldbuilding exercise. The reason why so many characters got condensed into roles they weren't initially (Singed is Ori's dad, Jayce was Caitlyn's family's ward) is because Arcane writers tried to make a singular intertwined narrative experience where each character is important. Lore of League on the other hand focuses on expanding the universe, creating many independent stories that happen simultaneously that create the feeling of grandeur and that the world is much bigger than the singular person. Each approach has it's benefits and detriments. I would much rather see a seperate game and cinematic universe they stick to and simply exchange ideas when they feel like it. The lore of LoR, for example, is to me very interesting and I much rather prefer they focus on merging these too than Arcane and games.
@@MrBlueKitsune We knew very little about Piltover's and Zaun's lore even to begin with, some things in Arcane are answers to questions that we had for years (Are Vi and Jinx sisters). There is no reason why couldn't they make Arcane into a good narrative experience while staying very close to the canon. They can make good experiences for people, and this doesn't require the games, future seasons of Arcane, or even films not to be canon. There was no reason for the Warcraft film to be different from WoW's lore either. The only thing that you can achieve with this segmented universe is that you will confuse people when they want to explore your universe in other media. The whole making different games or Arcane just partially canon thing makes no sense, and isn't necessary at all. I think it just ruins people's experience
At that point unfortunately, you can't rewrite core League lore to be like arcane without retconning most stuff. I still hope that Vi and Jinx backstory are basically the same in core League and Arcane, tho
@@Korinengamecorp I too hope that Vi&Jinx's backstoryes are very similar to Arcane, because this way the lore in the show doesn't go to "waste". About the retcons, I think they can be very good depending on what does it retcon, and how. Like if they retconned the Ruination event and made an entire new story, nobody would be angry about them doing it.
i appreciate that the newest female character is fully covered. they even gave her a mask to really hammer it home that shes most certainly not kai'sa.
And in doing so made her so intimidating, so stylish, and so appealing of a design! It conveys such *character* unique to her, rather than being another cookie cutter young thin mandatorily sexy lady. She's middle-aged, grizzled, broad-shouldered, *and* sexy!
I just love characters like Renata and Silco, that express their power most by influence and persuasion, not exactly intimidation. None of them order their threaten their subordinates with death, but punish them with it for treason. You can still be useful if you keep loyal, you can still thrive if you show that you are not against them, the only thing is that you will have to give more of yourself to make up for your failure. Interestingly, you can also see that their strength and resilience induce people to thrust and respect them more, enhancing their charismatic figure. Riot really made me take off the hat for that, because it was such a careful and interesting study of contrasting Zaun's most notorious counterparts: Noxus' strength-expression intimidation and Piltover's death-threatening intimidation.
Like most enchanter supps nowadays are played :D Staying in backline, occosionally healing & stuff but otherwise letting the adc/other teammates do most work
@@wladynoszhighlights5989 it’s just the community view of enchanter supports. Aww I kind of want to hear more from her like an interaction with Dr Mundo and Urgot but still I'm quite satisfied with her compared to the other recent champs
The health potion line is a reference to Arrested Development, when the character (Lucille) says "It's one banana, Michael, what could it cost? Ten Dollars?"
4:30 Wasn't it always known? Or at least heavily implied. In Tales of Runeterra, for example, she on a whim manages to use a Hextech power source for a rocket launcher. It didn't work exactly as she wanted, but still.
I always thought that Jinx being smart was canon because she wouldn't be buying her weapons and explosives so she was cleary making them. Anyway now it's confirmed
Wait how does she not have an interaction with Urgot??? The man's whole thing is trying to destroy the Chem-barons, you'd think she'd mention him or something
I hope she allies with the heroes, she seems like a great character, not evil, just not altruist. She isn't even that greedy, she could even help someone who has nothing to give to her, just for loyalty. Of course she wouldn't be helping people when she has nothing to gain, she is not 100% good, but I love the way she likes to work.
Tbh before I watched Arcane and before it came out I was expecting Riot to retcom lots of Piltover stuff to match with the show. Ant it actually makes sense, I wouldn't be mad about it. So many other champs changed lore with time, some not even with a reason. Making Arcane canon was expected to me and still... it didn't become reality.
@@that1nerdyblackgirl736 Fair enough, I do hope they integrate some key parts like Jinx and Vi's backstory, Vi and Cait being girlfriends, Singed's new personality, Jayce and Viktor's personalities, and pretty much every bit of new lore about Heimerdinger as canon. Everything else I can chalk up to as "artistic license for Arcane" with varying degrees of acceptance.
@@ScorpionViper1001 welp Vander is Warwick is up in the air. And i still think riot looks like they want to update ekko model to have dreadlocks (I never fully understood why the Mr.T Mohawk look was agreed upon for his hair. But that me being nit picky)
"I mean its one health potion, what could it cost? Ten thousand gold" is actually a reference to an arrested development quote where lucile says the same thing about a frozen banana. Lucile Bluth: . “I mean it's one banana, Michael, what could it cost, 10 dollars?”
I mean. In the LoR piltover cinematic Jinx does build a rocket with heimer's invention. So while it wasn't outright stated, it has been implied she's at least a decent engineer.
9:40 Your take doesn't make sense. If someone swears loyalty, then they'll be doing what she wants. That's not more steps. This line is more signifying that she is a manipulator, not a brute. She's saying "You will either willingly give me what I want or I'll trick you, bribe you, drug you, or control events around you to get it." Oh. And calling Camille a possible hero in a future story is a bit naïve. Renata isn't evil, just ruthless, and Camille is a paid assassin. A simplistic view of morality doesn't really apply. I mean, yes she gave out breathers to Zaun after the chemical spill with at least mostly selfish intentions, but she still gave out breathers. She still did that. She could have rallied them up into a fervor with rage, or countless other options, but instead she chose to take a HUGE loss to her business with an act of charity. She's about as evil as anyone else who lives in Piltover and Zaun. Or anyone else in the LoL universe. The only truly Good people in that world are children or spirits that can't be anything else, the only exception (that I can think of right now) being Braum. Just some thoughts for future script writing.
7:39 The difference between medicine and poison is the dosage... Yes you can take it as a mirroring reference to Camille's vioce line, but it can be a mirroring reference to Paracelsus too,: "All substances are poisons; there is none which is not; the dose differentiates a poison from a remedy (medicine)." *He was also a physician and alchemist during the Renaissance. Maybe Riot got inspired by him, maybe not, who knows, but Renata Glasc certainly reminded me of him when she said that voice line.
I mean Rek'sai's growls (for me) feal frequent as the voicelines of Irelia mentioning all the peaple that died in the war. But the fact that most of the gameplay she is borrowded you hear less voiceline. The deapth of the voice line is another thing, she litterally narrate all the books of Dune if you combine the audios
"I mean its one health potions. what could it cost? 10000 gold" is a reference to Arrested Development when Lucile Bluth says, "It's one banana, Michael. What could it cost? $10 dollars?" 2 rich older women who have no idea how much things cost.
The "How much could a health potion cost? 10,000 gold line" is actually a reference to Arrested Development where they say the same thing but about a banana

10:27 just wanna point out that she says "invest" and not "invent", which means chemtech probably already existed for a good while but Renata was the first one to see it's marketable potential
People think investing means inventing just look at Elon musk whole public recognition. People think he invented every single thing his companies make
@@josea.ram.457 Yup... a lot of people really do think that paying for something to be made is the same as making something...
Despite her being pretty unambiguously evil with her wanting to destroy Piltover,
She also seems to have done more good for Zaun than most of the "heroes".
She has started a major business that presumably employs thousands of workers, provides cheap equipment for the Zaunite workers, and even handed out free masks during a chemical disaster.
All of her wealth was created through legitimate inventions and takeovers, rather than sabotage and brute force tactics. (Though it does sound like she forces some inventors to work for her?)
Obviously a large part of that is in service to destroying Piltover, but to the Zaunites I wouldn't be surprised if she is unambiguously a hero.
She reminds me of Lex Luthor.
That or Doom lol. Though out of both of them it def seems to me less pride of " behold, ME, I AM RIGHT" and more so her showing the world she isnt that weak girl, her parents were fools, etc
( even if she cared for them. They are naturally good natured - she just stomped hers far far down in a sense)
She's fit to rule because she takes care of her people for the exchange of their loyalty.
Because she probably didn't know about her, the others are either bigger figures like jinx or viktor or just a nuisance like ekko and zeri
Because Orianna isn't a notable character and I doubt anyone even knows she exists. To everyone except her dad, she's just yet another robot walking the streets of Piltover.
Isn't Oriana one of those forgotten characters collecting dust?
I think it’s cool how she called Seraphine a traitor because she was from zaun parents that moved to piltover.
1:41 "Camille might be the main hero". Too many murdered parents to be a hero, i think.
Those parents had it coming.

I feel that there are other champs that have stories connected to zaun and pullover they need to finish before they do that
@@CyrusL I agree
she did say that she loves the city but IF she needs to burn it down to take down piltover well...
as from that quote pretty much saying that she will do everything to take down Piltover.
I wouldn't call her hero
but I can't really her a villain either..
Its from both
It's weird that there are no urgot voice lines. He's the baron slayer. . . She a chembaron, I thought that was like his whole thing
Fr dude like wtf man i was so dissapointed
Like if they retconned the Ruination event and made an entire new story, nobody would be angry about them doing it.
you realize the larger a property gets the harder it genuinely is to do that
I assumed Jinx was already smart and an engineer since she builds her own weapons. I don't think that's exclusive to Arcane
i appreciate that the newest female character is fully covered. they even gave her a mask to really hammer it home that shes most certainly not kai'sa.
I agree!
I love the irony of Renata. She’s a enchanter support but she kinda makes you work for her lol.
Like most enchanter supps nowadays are played :D
Staying in backline, occosionally healing & stuff but otherwise letting the adc/other teammates do most work
@@wladynoszhighlights5989 it’s just the community view of enchanter supports. Everyone always thinks enchanter supports are played by UwU girl gamers like “yeah here I’ll heal you now go shit on them!” But Renata is like “yes I’ll peel for you now shit on them FOR ME otherwise you literally just die and be useless”

Hopefully that will get a bit of meat behind it in Renata's color story. Right now Zeri's a bit underbaked in my opinion.
"finally, i will see them again"
Excited to die? Aatrox? Is that you?
Man I can't wait for the lore event where Renata gets cancelled by Piltover on twitter for making hairy perfume
Seraphine stans attack on Renata perfume page confirmed, this battle will be legendary, better prepare my best Lux skin for this occasion
Aww I kind of want to hear more from her like an interaction with Dr Mundo and Urgot but still I'm quite satisfied with her compared to the other recent champs
I really wanted an urgot interaction too :/
Sucks for Silco! Even though Arcane isn’t cannon, he really tried to make an independent nation; only to have ruled by another sad person.
The sad thing is she has no interactions with Urgot :(
Her joke is a direct reference to Arrested Development, when Lucille says "How much could a banana cost? Ten dollars?"
The health potion line is a reference to Arrested Development, when the character (Lucille) says "It's one banana, Michael, what could it cost? Ten Dollars?"

Wasn't it always known? Or at least heavily implied. In Tales of Runeterra, for example, she on a whim manages to use a Hextech power source for a rocket launcher. It didn't work exactly as she wanted, but still.
Yeah, kinda weird for Necrit to say that when there's a bunch of canon examples of her skills being shown or at least implied...
I always thought that Jinx being smart was canon because she wouldn't be buying her weapons and explosives so she was cleary making them. Anyway now it's confirmed
After Aphelios, I think honestly, Renata is the only jaw dropping and truly "different" champion
Wait how does she not have an interaction with Urgot??? The man's whole thing is trying to destroy the Chem-barons, you'd think she'd mention him or something
Feels like all the new champions have a jab at Seraphine wish they’d try to make her more interesting lore rather then just being seen as a joke :(
I hope she allies with the heroes, she seems like a great character, not evil, just not altruist.
I'm hoping they're waiting to see how fans react when PNZ's story is fully done to start retconning stuff. But yeah, feels bad man.
Which i feel as horrible misstep in riots part but hell if comic books empires can have multiple storylines why not video game companies
All the Jinx's weapons are handmade by her. This was always indicated in the lore.
This voice line technique was the reason why I love and played a lot of Lissandra. I love tragic story
9:40
Your take doesn't make sense. If someone swears loyalty, then they'll be doing what she wants. That's not more steps. This line is more signifying that she is a manipulator, not a brute. She's saying "You will either willingly give me what I want or I'll trick you, bribe you, drug you, or control events around you to get it."
Oh.
Yes you can take it as a mirroring reference to Camille's vioce line, but it can be a mirroring reference to Paracelsus too,:
"All substances are poisons; there is none which is not; the dose differentiates a poison from a remedy (medicine)."
*He was also a physician and alchemist during the Renaissance.
I'm sorry but camille being the hero against renata? You've got it wrong renata must reign supreme ❗❗❗
They're like Kyogre and Groudon with their eyes
Urgot would be Rayquaza to Camille and Renata's Groudon and Kyogre
Atleast she knows what kindness is. She calls it foolish but still she knows its kindness.

"I mean its one health potions. what could it cost? 10000 gold" is a reference to Arrested Development when Lucile Bluth says, "It's one banana, Michael. What could it cost? $10 dollars?"
2 rich older women who have no idea how much things cost.
"I'll make you kill your love ones is a far bigger threat than any gun." By far my favorite voiceline by her.
