Amazing Test! I Recorded this today and its way more powerful now, it did the same as Ravenstruther and shook the ground and I could even feel my chest vibrating. It was amazing and I love your vid too, keep up the good work 🤩
I find it's often the dodgier ones that are often the most interesting, like the FS Thunderbolt 1000 that sounded like it was trying to impersonate a 3 port Elektror S4 which I just watched as I got the notification for this video.
As always an interesting video, well done for all your effort travelling to get these videos ! Do you have any info on how the sirens are actually controlled ? such as private wire / modem control etc ?
It's a system similar to the old wb1400 systems used around Britain for air attacks. Inside the control box are a couple of tone receivers connected to the same phone line. Each is activated by a different frequency. Each also independently activated a different function.
I remember that broadmore sirens have there dampers close when winding down if they work it looks like both of the Solenoids that move the dampers shitted out when doing a hi lo test
@@AutoUnder Kinda the opposite to what you said but the prinicple is the same. It won't carry as far but you will still hear it if you're close enough (which isn't that close) but yes of course,
I think one shutter actually is open. Not sure as I can’t see though, were you able to see both of them closed? Because it does sound like the low tone shutter is open!
mrmattandmrchay ah! This one does alright to be fair to it, although it’s not my favourite siren in the system- that’s a tie between rein-stree (H) or Carstairs West End (D)
The many uses of Google Maps lol! Wonder how they were cut - this is the disadvantage of having sirens so low down and not under the protection of a tower, like at Broadmoor.
At 2:22 Shouldn't both of the Shutter Mechanism boxes have a orange wire going to it? It looks like the Shutter that's stuck closed hasn't got a wire connected to it. /:
See 5:32 - one side won't open (power cable has been cut) and the other side is mechanically stuck open. I doubt it's jammed as the cover is still in place preventing anything getting in there. It's probably something in the shutter mechanism but no way to confirm.
As @al66class59 states, these are run by 240VAC. See ruclips.net/video/WcSXAXPQyzE/видео.html as we had the opportunity to open one and see inside the mechanism.
Oh man someone cut Off the cable to the shutter wow Not nice. Someone should get in Touch with the company to as quickly as possible to Repair the Problem, maybe the constructor only had One Cable wow
These are no doubt Pyro cables (or officially known as Mineral-insulated copper-clad cable). These are really solid, fire proof and very hard wearing (and a nightmare to terminate - you can't 'strip' them, you need the right tools and putty! ahem, just memories from college!!). I suppose if someone were to pull or swing on them, then ultimately somethings got to give and it's likely to break clean off at the fixed parts - like where this one is broken. I would suggest that someone had damaged this. It must have been done recently, OR I'm surprised its not been picked up on and fixed by now.
@@mrmattandmrchay either way be it a "oversight" (I'm more inclined to thing that it was accidentally unplugged by a absent-minded technician) or blatant vandalism (though one would have to really *try* to break the cable straight off (I doubt this is even possible to snap it just by pulling hard enough) unless they *somehow* have access to a tool that can easily make short work of this cabling). Anyways, if someone would've wanted to silence the siren, it's likely they would have tried to attack the control box.
It sounds like a person saying “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee yayayayayayayayayayayyayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayyayayyayayayayayyayayayayyayayayayayayyayayyayayayayayayyayayayayayayayayayyayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayay”
Well there's a couple of possibilities. This is the least likely but it could be that the solenoid is being constantly powered so it is always open. Or it could be that the shutter has jammed open at some point. Or as MrMatt said it could be an issue with the fact the mechanism has failed - return spring not working.

What’s up fellow enthu 😁
Sounds very unhealthy, I wonder why the second shutter has been disconnected.
Probably been cut by somebody wanting to be a pain
Ones stuck open ones stuck closed, they need some oil and new parts!!
To make it sound creepier
@@WarningSirensOfUpstateNY hell no lol why would they do that to make it "sound creepier"
An angry Karen probably cut it but forgot to cut the other one
Fantastic siren tests, a rotary siren sounds so much better than these crap electronic sirens.
Ack! Sounds like you had a bit of a nightmare trying to get this one recorded. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it, thanks for the comment
the two shutters are still jammed open and closed, but the siren is far more powerful than it was in this video.
When both shutter jam the Life of rotors motor will be shorter than the normal life
The life will be long with the shutter jammed as the rotors aren’t moving nearly as much air
2 dampers are broken??? I think this is the first cs8 siren I've seen that has 2 dampers broke.
I've loved these videos. After lockdown is lifted I'm planning to get a cheap flight to Scotland on one of the test days to see these sirens in action
Did you ever come up to see them?

mrmattandmrchay I agree Volvo B10M- look at the amount of attention the Ravenstruther siren got!
@@randomores That one sounded like it had just been rescued from a scrap yard, and yet it was awesome.
Volvo B10M that was a real brute. I love that one!

Seems to be phone lines, at least that’s what I’d suggest based off my own experience seeing these sirens.

awesome siren video i film The Siren In My home town Going Off 1 Week Ago At 9:00AM ON A Tuesday

The gaming tiger Toy Edan Bartley actually, if you look closely you can see that they actually have been disconnected.
Why do these sirens look like 3T22s without horns and are on there sides?
Why the shutter is jammed shut
Because no wires is connecting and problems
It been vandalised
It sounds like it uses the same attack timer as all Sentry sirens
Also known as a federal signal 3 t22 attack timer
This is probably one of the Lowest sirens i've ever seen!
What is the point of having a rotor heater? Apart from heating the rotors of course. Is it to prevent ice build up or something?
Yes
I'm thinking they might've disconnected the other shutter so the siren will be quieter because it's right next to a playground
@Jd It's one less siren technically so it would be quieter.
@@childishtombino1275 technically yes but not by much at all, won't be enough to make any difference

5:08 definitely a stuck-open shutter :)

That was a good day 😊 hopefully the next siren I cover will sound a bit better than this one!
Yeah!
I’m probably off to Lanark in two weeks to film that one, subject to the rozzers being ok with it 😂
hi tone shutter isnt connected up.. you can see at 2:20 and the low tone shutter seems to be stuck open/broken.. but awesome video as always! :)
Perhaps you wrote this comment before getting to 5:57 when I explain exactly that ;)
Indeed I did!.. sorry about that
Also in 2009 on google maps it had the wire going into the shutter control box.
The many uses of Google Maps lol! Wonder how they were cut - this is the disadvantage of having sirens so low down and not under the protection of a tower, like at Broadmoor.

@@mrmattandmrchay Yeah lol I wrote it as soon as I noticed it. XD
Maybe as your next siren hunt you could track down and film all the sirens in the Rampton system and the Ashworth siren
Some recordings just end up like that.
Yeah
sounds exactly like a Thunderbolt 1000
Who turned on the siren?
the right pane no longer closes and the left pane does not open during the ringing, is it blocked?
Doesn’t get a power supply. It’s not being given the current to open it
See 5:32 - one side won't open (power cable has been cut) and the other side is mechanically stuck open. I doubt it's jammed as the cover is still in place preventing anything getting in there. It's probably something in the shutter mechanism but no way to confirm.
@@mrmattandmrchay do you have a facebook profile ?
Looks like the shutter is pneumatically activated and the hose on the non-working shutter is cut.
It’s an electrical supply cable (an electromagnet opens the shutter) that’s been disconnected, but close enough

Imagine if both shutters were jammed open
So a klaxon GP8
the other vids of this series when the siren goes off it gets darker and winder and it gets more creeper becuse on this vid i see an orb on camera
They stay on for too long, before their wind-Down and thanks for the video
Gee that CS-8 is low! Must be very loud under it lol
This reminds me of the CS6 because it only has the lower toned chopper 😂
Haha brilliant
More of a GP6 to me.
first one looks like the shutter near the camera is welded shut
I thought these were big but its so low mounted and small looking
The shutter in a left is stuck the shutter on the right is stuck to
When you try your best and you don't sucseed...

It’s the grossest in the world I’m never going to test it
Always treat a siren a person
Yikes... It's as if someone vandalized this unit and cut the wire to the shutter to try and silence the siren...
Or just pulled it off during maintenance and not reconnected. Had it been cut the orange electrical tape around the receptor would still be there
