Kevin, nice hike and scouting, too bad the ground was still frozen at the last location. Hopefully you can get back before the fields grow and the ticks come out.👍

Site 1: A ground probe when the ground thaws a bit.
    Site 2: A metal detector.
Site 3: A rake and shovel.
Now all you need is spring thaw! Happy Hunting!

Kevin I always like the hikes in the woods looking for a dump site. The woods in your part of the world is beautiful ! That third site looked amazing. Looking forward to seeing what you find there in the Spring Time😊

Hi, Kevin: OH, where to begin...you gave us a lot to delve into here, a triple whammy exploration. My experience in pioneer 1800s sites tells me there is a lot of historic potential here.My first pick would be the no. 2 cellar hole site..did you say late 1700s??wow, the possibilities of rare early Canadian and American glass and pottery are huge there. If that isn't enough, the first site looks like it could have been a stopping place for travellers by coach and wagon, especially if near a pioneer road. All those wheel parts and overgrown fruit trees are big clues. The last place could be full of surprises because it be actually quite old. Most of all, you will definitely need to metal detect the first 2.I think there is all kinds of glass, etc. under the dirt, moss, rocks, and dead falls. If it were me, I would get after these great sites asap. The competition will soon be breathing down your neck!

Yes, The date I came up with is based on some nearby gravestones. These are very old roads leading from the bay shoreline. I'm hoping a couple of these sites I've been checking out start to pay off. I need to utilize the probe and metal detector more often.

I found a site identical to your SITE ONE. All metal pieces; hubs, rings, chains, pails, etc. The metal detector would be beeping. No glass at all ... disappointing!
    SITE THREE looks promising.
Trekking through the woods keeps you warm!

Yes, Darryl... I've found a few places like that. It's like they put all their scrap metal in one place and all their glass items somewhere else... kept then seperated for some reason.

Oh yes... two years ago they were advising people to not even go in the woods around here, that's how bad they get. I've been bit a few times so far. The worst was one that was on me for a few days, but I just went to outpatients and got some antibiotics as a precautionary measure.

@@Travelling..Bottle..Digger Wow that's scary Kevin, especially if you don't notice one right away. My friend down south stepped on one at the beach and ended up with Lyme disease.
