Funnily enough, I came to this vid looking for info on historical container closures, and there was none of that in the video but I stayed anyway. Lot's of great info on bottles themselves.
Man I found this so fascinating. So awesome. I am not into bottles but I loved this. I learned so much! I will be more into bottles now that i feel better prepared
A couple years ago I had the eye opening pleasure of meeting Carl Pratt, a well known, 30 year bottle (glass) collector here in Southeastern Mass, who has even written a book on the subject...and I couldn't believe the history of the adventures of bottles. "Say what, Carl??? You all rent a backhoe and dig in peoples yards???" :) Haha. I bump into him every so often and will tell him to look you up. Great video, Don. I'm still wet behind the ears, but the all important pontil. And for anyone that has read this far... it was only 8 - 10 bucks, but I sold a broken coke bottle bottom piece that I found at the beach... For free!
This is a great vid. The reason I'm watching it is because I found what looks to be an old distillery in my woods and just wanted to see how to "age" the bottles I found. 👍
My uncle just passed away and he left behind an entire MASSIVE collection of vintage and antique bottle he found in old Canadian ghost towns. I have no idea what I’m doing and there’s just so much, especially medicine bottles, but your vid has been quite helpful thanks! 😅🥲
I love going wandering in outback Australia 🇦🇺 on my mini bike for bottles 🎉I use a little motor bike so I can get under trees 🌲 😂that’s how I find em ❤
Yazoo native here ! I've lived in Louisiana for the past 20 years and currently cleaning the parish canals and creeks I've found so many coke bottles and others I'm running out of room. Many Bogalusa Louisiana coke bottles and Newton ms .
Those embossed coke bottles from the 50's and beyond have two double digit numbers on them. I've been told one is the batch number and the other is the year. Like 32 (c) 51
Big time collecting area. A lot to know and a lot of money to be made. Easy to pick up a couple dozen vintage bottles at a local auction for $5-10 and learn the ins and outs while listing them. Easy ship too!
I WANT TO THANK YOU EITH EXTREME GRATTITUDE AND APPRECIATION YOU ARE A TRUE BOESSING TO ME WITH SUCH BASIC INFORMATION AND SINCERE GUIDANCE I TRULY APPRECIATE YOU FOR THIS SIMPLE BASIC BUT YET EXTREMELY HELPFUL INFORMATION
Thanks for the informative video. I love getting a glimpse of your personal collection. @8:06 - That explains the shape of the Zima bottle. That was a horrible beverage.
Excellent base line information for beginners. I would like to point out that on COKES there is a KEY version you skipped over, it was the 2nd variant of the well known Hobbleskirt design and is referred to as the Christmas Coke as the date as the date is Dec. 25th, 1923 and a small change was made to the 1915 variant.
When I lived in Nashville for a few years, bottle collecting was so popular that the once a month flea market held at the fairgrounds had an entire building solely for the bottle vendors. Lot of crock collectors also.
Awesome Video. Thank you so much. I have a 8 bottles that I purchased in NYC from a flea market. I paid a good deal for each bottle, simply because they were pretty. No idea what each bottle is worth. I will check the website you metioned and learn more about my bottles. Thanks!
I found a braswells juiced rite orange drink bottle 1 cent the other day with a pretty good label says north carolina and 1 cent on the cap it is a 1quart jug but i cant find one online anywere ive looked and looked finally gave up
I just watched your video and found it extremely interesting. I do have two questions for you that you may be able to answer. First, where did the term pop bottle come from? I had been told that originally coke bottles contained a cork with a wire loop. it was explained that when the bottle was filled, the cork floated to the top of the neck, where a hook grabbed the wire loop and pulled the cork tightly into the neck. Then when the bottle was purchased, the buyer slapped the top of the cork with the palm of their hands and “popped” the cork into the bottle. As the Coke was consumed, the cork floated away from the neck. After the bottle was drained and sent back to the company, it was washed, refilled, and the cork floated to the top where the hook grabbed the wire again and resealed the bottle. Is that really the way it happened? My second question is really an observance. In the mid 70s at our business, Coca-Cola delivered cases of product to us and also furnished a Coin operated cooler that we used. When we took a Coke break, each person got a Coke from the cooler. On the bottom of the bottle were supposedly the names of the places where the bottles were originally filled. Whoever drew the bottle from a city closest to our town in Florida had to pay for everybody’s Coke. At some point they quit using bottles with city names on them.
I've found many pieces of old bottles, some pieces were purple, but I did find a whole bottle Even though it was only from 1923 it was laying on the shore of a beach I frequently visited, must have been their ever since.
Hello, I recently excavated a antique aqua Anheuser Busch bottle. My research was very hard to find out any information about it. All I could find out is that it’s early 1900’s and considering it’s a Lynchburg Virginia bottle makes it super rare. I cannot find anything more than this information. Do you have anything to offer me with your knowledge. If you do it will be appreciated. Thanks and I enjoy your videos. 👍🏻
I have found an old Cadillac Ginger ale qt bottle. This was a Detroit Company. It has a Cadillac insinuate on the base and the number 1414. Looking for information on age.

Hello bottle person? My brother and I found a hidden room in my mother's house, where we grew up. We were doing, a lot of cleaning one day. In some of the unfinished walls we found bottles dated 17th and 18th centuries. Wanna see them? I'm tired of cleaning them. I have no idea what to do with them.

Great info. Thank you for hitting the small details and the names of each particular area of the bottle.
Funnily enough, I came to this vid looking for info on historical container closures, and there was none of that in the video but I stayed anyway. Lot's of great info on bottles themselves.
