  • In this video I work with a test project in a GeoPackage that includes styles, tools, layouts and some example data. I create MGRS grid reference vector layers and style them with QGIS, and create layouts with MGRS grids.
    The project (GeoPackage) can be downloaded from plugins.qgis.o...
    On the plugins site you can also find the included QGIS models as separate downloads if you don't need the entire project.

    Hi! This looks amazing and interesting.
    I'm trying to learn QGIS and re-create this side by side with this video. Still a total beginner with QGIS, so bear with me..
    Having a problem with QGIS 3.36.1. When I create labels for the corners, the "nort-west" grid label is missing from every grid (the bottom right one from grid intersection).
    Also, If I save a project, should the grid system be available when I open the project again? It's missing at the moment.

    Hi Klas! thank you for your excellent tutorial. I found however one thing that makes it unusable for me - as in your example my map gets green overlay which makes it unusable. My basemap is of course colored and when I try to print it with any other print setting it generate colorful map, however in all 3 MGRS print presets it appears with this green overlay :( Is there a way to get rid of this?

    Would it be complicated to create layouts for other page sizes (e.g. A4/A2) and scales (e.g. 1:25000)?

    • @KlasKarlsson

      No. Some work I guess, but not complicated. You just need to get familiar with all the components that make up the layout, and start working.

    Hey, powerful video. I just have a few questions now. Maybe you have time and desire to answer them. I have done everything first as you said. That has also worked so far.
    I only work with the MGRS grids.
    1) Can I divide the whole world into MGRS grids. In your video there are "only" 32V,33V,34V,32U,33U,34U. Which is already very strong.
    2) Is there a possibility that the map of OpenStreetMap can be adapted in such a way that one receives a topographic map and one can decide oneself what one can show and hide on the map?
    3) I didn't quite understand about the layer. How do I now get my map section transferred to the layer?
    I must say, my English is not perfect. You have probably already said something to many of my points. Greetings and thank you for your work.

    • @KlasKarlsson
      @KlasKarlsson  Год назад +1

      1) Yes. All at the same time will require a lot of CPU power to process.
      2) Yes. You can use any geodata layers you have access to. OSM is a service that is pre-rendered with a fixed style. If you provide your own layers you can style them anyway you like.
      3) Don't understand your question... sorry.

      First of all, thank you for your answers. I will see if my PC can do that.
      To question 3.
      at minute 30:00 you have a layout (map section). I would like to see the current map section that I am looking at. for example at minute 17:10 in your video. at 1:50.000. do you understand what I mean?

    When I add the project, everything works until it comes to finding the project models in the Processing Toolbox. The whole item is not there. Apart from "MGRS to point layer" in Lat Lon Tools, there is nothing from MGRS in the toolbox. When I try to add a model manually, it doesn't find anything in the project folder either. Can anyone help me with this? For example tell me, where I could find the separate downloads for the model on the plugins site? Thanks! =)

    I'm not sure if you're still responding here, but I have run into a couple issues:
    1) the 100km labelling is incorrect for my area - is there a way to change this? Ex. 0-20km show 53, but 21-99 show 54 as the 100km label
    2) the 100km labels are not showing properly every 10km increment
    if anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated!

    • @KlasKarlsson
      @KlasKarlsson  2 года назад

      Well, not sure what that could be. Check that you are using the correct UTM zone projection for the area you are in.
      There may be some issues with newer versions of QGIS (?) or the required latlonTools plugin. You could try to generate coordinates for another area (other UTM zone/ hemisphere /etc) to see if you get similar problems.

    Hi. Awesome tutorial, I added the MGRS grid as expected. However I'm having trouble with printing the maps. When I use Layout Manager, then select one of your 3 templates, there is no map rendered. It's just white space with some MGRS lines. Also the grid zone is all wrong (33VXF).
    It seems to me that I need to somehow tell it to read my map instead of your example. Could anyone tell me how to do that please? Thanks.

      Map elements are bound to the area where they were created. There's a button that re-centers the layout to your own map extent in the element settings.

      Actually there are two questions: first the one of the labels in the highest points on the mountains making them notice with a single point, I already have my layer of contours. And the other question: with what type of raster can I add layers of vegetation since in my region we have forests, jungle, plains and desert in a single state of my country. It would be interesting if you made a video about it.
