    Very thorough and easy to understand. An 8 point grid coordinate would have made this video perfect. Thanks !!

    The map has local origins for each square kilometer in the grid. Do modern artillery maps also have global designations, GPS coordinates for these local launch points?

    It's amazing. I'm here to get a recap on what I learned before a long time ago. The teaching I got in a truck on the fly was a trillion times more sensible amd clear than this convoluted video. Awful job, I'll be looking for other videos still.

    • @dtimer319
      @dtimer319 Год назад +1

      There is always a smaller square. Also, you would use another digit after the initial coordinates so you would go 115(3)833(8). The numbers in brackets narrow it down further.

    i stopped watching at 0:42. if i knew my place on the map then its really easy from there on. the question is how can i determine my position on the map

    • @paperbagperson5634
      @paperbagperson5634 4 года назад +1

      You look for landmarks, rivers hills etc.
      Also check the time and what direction the sun is facing.
      Getting even with grud knowledge is still a peculiar situation.

      If you know what city or village you’re close to, determine what direction you are from that point and use associated landmarks to determine your position.

      Yes also look for mountains and depressions around you and find it on the map then set an asmat on what degrees its on then on your compass to determine your location then you can set your protractor to see the degree on that.

    seems like a very confusing way to map coordinates. especially while under fire. is there a reason for this ? to confuse the enemy ?

  • @StraitD2
    @StraitD2 3 года назад +1

    So why is longitude and latitude flipped? The international standard ISO 6709 quotes, "Latitude comes before longitude." That's how we were taught in the military.

    • @StraitD2
      @StraitD2 3 года назад

      It's the standard that designates what is positive, negative, north, south, east, and west. Without it, it can be confused, and drop bombs on the wrong house during a war.

      Compare that to when entering Cartesian coordinates, where you enter the x-coordinate first then the y-coordinate. When you draw a vertical line, you are cutting an x-axis that indicates your x-coordinate. Then you draw a Horizontal line that intersects your y-axis which indicates your y-coordinate.

    Why do American's pronounce protractor 'pro-tractor' when the word is protract, with or on the end? So English speakers the world over would say protract-uh, but they say PRO-tractor. Like it's a professional tractor driver convention. It's so freakin' weird. I never know what they mean at first.
