@Barry Bryan .. what an amazing primary school you had!! 🥰🥰 I heard this for the very first time last week on Classic FM and now I absolutely adore it!! 💞
The school was an ordinary state primary school but, inter alia, it had a wonderfully, enlighted Irish music teacher named Mrs Moody. She taught us to sing this song together with many Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English folk songs. I shall never forget her.@@fionawall3215
@@paulokello5981 Well, looking back, I guess it was good but it was a so-called, bog-standard council school in Southall, Middlesex. Being just after the war, most of the teachers were ladies and the music teacher was an Irish lady called Mrs Moody who fired us up with unforgettable songs.
I can honestly say that I had never heard of Silent Worship until two weeks ago. I have since listened to many RUclips recordings and the majority of them are excellent. I feel slightly embarrassed to admit that I sing tenor (Decani!) in my church choir and I should have known this piece. I hang my head in shame :-)
Must have been 8. My music teacher taught the older class this song. I was waiting eagerly to join his class the next year so we could learn it too. The following year my government changed our curriculum. I never learnt the song. The older class would not teach me. 20 years later. I am here. Brings back memories.
@@terrymoran3406 You are right, it is a love song after I paid attention to hear the lyrics. But Handel did write a lot hymns since we sing them at church . His Messiah is very popular. This song has the church song's flavor, I am going to learn it.
Did you not hear my lady Go down the garden singing Blackbird and thrush were silent To hear the alleys ringing Oh, saw you not my lady Out in the garden there Shaming the rose and lily For she is twice as fair Though I am nothing to her Though she must rarely look at me Though I can never woo her I'll love her 'till I die Did you not hear my lady Go down the garden singing Silencing all the songbirds And setting the alleys ringing Surely you heard my lady Out in the garden there Rivaling the glittering sunshine With the glory of golden hair.
It is indeed a lovely song and very well sung but I haven't seen one commentator acknowledge the most sensitive piano accompanist. "Accompanying" - which should better be called "partnering" is a great art i n itself. Without the fine pianist here, the musical effect would be much diminished.
I really LOVE this arrangement and both voices are beautiful and so musical. Could you tell me where I could purchase this album and possibly the duet sheet music please?

I first heard this song in movie Emma. Absolutely lovely ❤️
I am 79 years old and was taught this song at primary school aged about 9 years. I have never forgotten it.
Thank you for sharing this with us and I hope that you are well and in good health!🙂

This is so exquisite. The sweetness and softness of these voices, combined with this incredible lyrics... It's heavenly!

I wish nowadays our children can still learn beautiful hymns like this at school. I wish we could still worship God just like the way it was.
What makes you think it's a hymn?

This is so lovely. This is music! I'm enjoying it here in Brazil. Thanks for posting. Really liked the vocal arrangement.
To me it's the most beautiful song I know
This song by G F Handel featured in the film "Emma" (1996) in which starred Gwyneth Paltrow sang a duet with her Scottish co star Euen Macgregor.

Irish voices have a unique quality.
Well done, Owen; your addition for the RUclips audience is a welcome presence to return to when a clear voice of love and peace is needed.

Written over 250 years ago, and human nature is the same today.
Reminds me of Bweranyangi music class

With the glory of golden hair.

Adore this beautiful and sensitive arrangement. MWW
Normally this is a male/female duet (ie in lots of Jane Austen films) but it works better, I think, with two men.
I'd like to purchase the arrangement as well. Can you tell me where I can get it?
anyone else here bc Emma 1996🧍🏻♀️
Where can i get the full music notes for this song?
