- This 2002 Acura RSX Type S is fitted with a modified version of the HKS Turbo Kit for the 2-Liter engine. It now produces 375 Wheel Horsepower and 290 lb/ft of torque, substantially more than the stock 200 crank horsepower.

The owner looked pissed pretty much the whole time after Matt commented about the steering lol
oh yeah, from 3:01 on
Derek OBrien red steering sucks in general I have one and I hate it compared to my eg6. The fucked up when they placed McPherson struts in the front.
Yea i can tell he was getting pissed lol
Wish they had double wishbone. That's a true suspension.
That car looks awesome, you started at the same spot I got kicked out by the park ranger/police for filming a turbo civic.
Guess Acura had more class. Lol
ThatDudeinBlue Its thatdudeinblue
ThatDudeinBlue Probably because you're younger than Matt. The authority hates youth
ThatDudeinBlue lol Matt didn't give a shit about your comment
Kenneth Wilburn Matt only answers questions in youtube comments, if he wants to talk to David or vice-versa they'll message each other privately.
Ack Rite
Nothing gets Matt more flacid than a car without that good on-center steering
My buddy had one of these, it was an automatic but I was pleasantly surprised how well of an auto it was. Handling was soooo precise. Even with 240k+ miles on it, it was solid. Love these RSX's.
Worn suspension bushings is the reason for the sloppy steering. For every worn bushing from the steering rack to the wheel, the more effort it will take from the steering to transfer it to the road.
Fzed 600 never thought of that.
bet he spanked the stock rubber boosting for 20k miles, time for poly...
Worn suspension bushings is ONE possible reason for sloppy steering.. Alignment is usually the bigger factor though.
an alignment will not tighten up the steering. it will just even the dead zone left to right
"An alignment will not tighten steering, it will just even out a dead zone" Hey guess what happens when you fix alignment and lose the dead zone? TIGHTER STEERING!!!!
Seems like steering was not bad off center, and left center was the worst... this is a result of a bad alignment.
Owner: "Stop talking about the steering. Stop talking about the steering. Stop talking about the steering. Matt.. off-camera please bro."
Thats all he knows 👌
Matt's having fun .. car owner not too sure lol
ezar howard Parovl
ezar howard hahaha the look on his face
Looks kind of nervous a few times.
Anyone else surprised when these Japanese cars have tuned motors/suspension but the outside looks stock? I'm too used to the Fast and Furious cars.
Were you expecting neon lights?
Bittertokken lights, wing, stickers...the full shebang!
JP & Co. that's the proper order to modify a car in: suspension, engine, exterior.
JP & Co. thankfully he didn't go that route.
My modding philosophy is very simple. If it doesn't add power, make the car turn sharper or brake sooner, then it's not worth having.
No gimmicky crap on my Eclipse
How awesome this channel is??? One take daily haha??!!?! Matt you are the KING!!
Welcome to TheSmokingTire.
Matt juked him, thinking he'd get a second handshake. Not today Mark, not today. :(
I had a 06 RSX-S with a SC6162S PTE turbo on it, made 420whp on 93. Was awesome! Great video!
i prefer the 330whp all motor the other week
Mysterious Laptop The turbo build he has if he bought it used he spend for all like 5k to 7k... the all motor easily 12k
i think he said the all motor was around 50k(the honda si)
Jamison Foley think he said $15k in the comments.
i most have heard wrong than, i was thinking 50k doesn't sound right
Jamison Foley I heard 50k too
That glove box set up!! 👍🏻 well done sir!
I am the only one that opens the smoking tire video then instantly hits the like button before even watching the video lol?
These are such a joy to watch after i get home from work.
I wanna see you do a Supra
PRELUDE just go look at the Tuned review of one
PRELUDE that would be kind of disgusting ;) lol.
PRELUDE Or an r32... or has he done one of those already?
MannyFresh1x he owns an R32 gtr and did a video of it.
Look at his old videos he's done a green Supra and an R32.
9-3 Aero one take coming? :)
Here is hoping. Saab turbo power!
SuperLaugh20 its a viggen. Thats my brothers Saab.
I saw it, too. Can't wait!
What's done to it? I have a black vert.
That got a check engine light as I was pulling in to the smog station yesterday...
kirbyswarp Full suspension, Bigger Intercooler, T5 Cams, Forged Pistons, Air Intake, Full 3 inch Exhaust, Diverter Valve, Stage 3 tune from JZW. All running on the stock turbo.
nice thing about cars theres always new and modified cars never run out of cars to review
Dammit Matt, I wanna go to bed.
Hector Salamanca hahahahaaha poor grandpa haha. Nice one dude!
i love the rsx
I have always liked theses cars. They where pretty sick in need for speed underground :)
"Go on One Take they said. It'll be fun they said"
There's been a turbo RSX-S for sale by me on CL for years for $10k... At that point, you have to go S2000.
Chris Ireland not if you need a backseat
Chris Ireland not sure where you're from. There's a dude that is selling a DC2 Turbo for $19,000. It's been up for a couple of years
Not if you don't fit
Lol
I love all the recent Acura videos, I've always wondered what modded examples were like
"Drive my 375whp civic with unknown alignment"
K series transmissions always feel crisp close ratio short throw from factory
and with bad 2nd gear synchros from the factory to boot, what a deal!
teh vee teh vee never lost 2nd had 3 different k trans people loose second launching a car with a tranny built to handle 200lbs of tq go from first and slam into 2nd. 2nd gets the most abuse all the synchro are made of same material and same way, knowing it's fwd car I only did rolls in 3rd anyways
teh vee teh vee that's actually due to a faulty clutch master cylinder from factory. really common misconception and can easily be fixed
09+ if you want an Si with a good trans. You can pop 1-4 by 40mph
thanks mark for coming out
i loved the SAAB at the side of the road (1.09)
skurt Thats my brother's Viggen
skurt One Take coming soon
Gotta point the camera at the steering wheel so We All can have a lookzy. Thanks Matt.
The RSX was always a good looking sports coupe.
Air Bag honestly for the price, this is a really neat reliable car
just made my break that much better, beautiful car by the way also!
Love how quiet it is.
2zz Mr2 spyder!!! Make it happen Matt lol
NUYORK07 yessss!!!
NUYORK07 or k20 swap!
No, keep it toyota with the 2zz
I don't mind a k20 swapped spyder. However, I'm interested in the comparison of a 2zz spyder and a lotus elise or exige.
I want to see that so bad! my dream car!
This is so fast and furious! I love this car!!
Noooo, don't make this the last RSX you review.. I want you to review mine when it's done, everything will be done right and it will have no issues..
Why does the owner look nervous af? He keeps smacking his lips like he just drank a gang of lemon juice.
FYI Brazilians mostly use ethanol with gasoline being an alternative which is taxed about 2x higher than the sugarcane-based alcohol. Pretty much all cars burn E100 in Brazil, it grows in their backyards.
almost this.. e85 is much more cheap in Brazil, than gasoline. This is why almost every tuned car here in Brazil uses alcohol
AMR coilovers, very nice. Great suspension set up.
Revving till the cows come home on those flybys.
The guy was having fun and laughing until Matt mentioned the alignment issues LOL
Is that 5th gen accord in the background getting a review? They're surprisingly great to drive, and handle wider corners extremely well with stiffer/lower suspension. My biggest complaint about mine is that it needs a faster steering rack to inspire more confidence going into corners.
Not bad, this is making a nice amount of power.
keep doing honda's we love it !!
That S14 better be coming soon.
My roommate had a 02 RSX Type S not a bad little car, not the quickest thing in a strait line but a solid all-rounder.
Finally another RSX
i thought we done with civics, thank you for brining more civics
RSX was the continuation of the Acura Integra, just renamed.
RSX is an Integra. Just in North and South America they renamed it to fit with their Luxury brand "Acura" to charge more. Anywhere else in the world its still known as the Honda Integra not RSX.
The continuation of the RSX was the TSX and now the most modern one is the ILX. Acura left the sporty coupes to Honda they wanted to focus more on luxury and compete with the Germans, they failed of course so people who buy Acura's couldn't afford the Audi they always wanted so they settled.
+SDD525 I know they are but Audis are even more expensive lol, and whats the closest luxury car to an Audi i would say its either Lexus, Acura or Infiniti and Acura's reign at the top of that list with Lexus.
+SDD525 lmao agreed
Integra in japan, rsx in the states
A trailblazer ss or srt8 jeep would be nice to see on here
Excited for the Saab...
About to get a rsx type s soon can't wait looking at a nice 2004 rsx with nice mods or a mostly stock 03 rsx with a k20a motor swap with 80k on motor I'll make a choice when I go test drive both this week
Alexander Aldana only problem with buying a used type s is past owners beat the fuck out of it, understandably.
Thought Matt was going to say "this is the last ever one take"...
Crazy to see how it’s basically all stock on the outside
I love his menacing ass grin when he's not talking 😂😂
For sure got mad when you said something about the steering. LOL
100 bucks that it has a crack in the manifold!! you can hear it miles away
*DANGER TO MANIFOLD* 💥💥💥
I'm a rwd man, but if I had to choose a fwd the DC5 Integra or (RSX as the Americans call it) would have to be it. Still looks great after 15 years.
It really is a good looking car. I'd love to have one as a daily. Hard to find a manual tho
The deadzone in the steering has to do with the steering rack design on these honda chassis (rsx, ep3, em2), its emphasized greatly when lowered
The steering on my DC5 is quite precise. It's honestly one of the best power steering cars I've ever driven. I'm guessing his steering rack slider is worn out and has excessive play in it.
You're right, its decently precise when in tip top working shape, but far from perfect. Drive a sports car with double wishbone front suspension and you will feel what true precision is.
McSteeze I've driven plenty. The DC5 steering rack is still better.
"The DC5 steering rack is still better" - Lol, ok bud.
You get a 40mm wrench from the dealership and unlock the lock nut on the rack, then you tighten the guide screw then lock the nut back up. That's how the slop is removed. Takes 10 minutes.
Another Honda...hopefully the last one...but good on the owner for not going crazy with the exterior, nice and clean. Although not a car I would get in a million years, you cannot deny that power with arguably one of the best FWD chassis ever built [this is coming from someone who hates Hondas]
But what I really want to see is THAT SAAB 9-3 2.0T. Is that a tuned T7 I see? Those things can make huge power if done right by one of the guys like JZW, BCB, Vermont Tuning, etc. With simple mods, they are deceptively fast - especially from a roll. I love my JZW tuned Saab 9-3, makes great power and the turbo whoosh is addictive. A T8 9-3 2.0T with exhaust, IC, injectors, and E85 makes 330hp/400tq. Very, very fast. A mildly tuned Turbo X is an Evo killer - 350hp/450tq AWD monster.
When will we hear your Busso:)?
As soon as I can get it down to Matt. Perhaps in August. Gotta get it serviced, then on the dyno to tune in the high-lift camshafts and now full exhaust inc. headers. Right now she is still sleeping in the barn....shhhhhh!
I'm from Europe and my neighbour is a huge Alfa fan. He currently drives a 156 and he had a 155 2.0 TS, 146 1.6 TS and Alfa 33.
I drove his 155 a few times and it's a really fun car and I think it's one of the best looking early 90s sedans. I don't think that the V6 is much faster than the 2 liter TS but it sounds better and it's definitely much more special.
Despite the reliability issues he had with his previous Alfas (especially with the 146), he loves them and he keeps buying them - and that is definitely saying something!
Thats my brothers viggen, its a 2.3t tuned by JZW
ChaosphereIX you usually have to get forged pistons above 330 hp on our B207R tho. The fact that those K20 motors can achieve massive power with out needing to overhaul the motor as much is very impressive.
But yeah I can't wait for a Saab on this channel. I need some inspiration for my 9-3SC
Rsx type s or 8th gen civic/civic si for a daily?
JJM for the things I do I need roomy 4 seats. 8th gen hands down. If it is a sedan.
The fan issue is usually the relay behind the glove box.
Seems like all the Hondas in that era had issues with the air conditioning. My 99 Accord would cut out sometimes... fans in cabin vents would spin, but the air was not dry and rather very humid. Would kick in and out for a minute or two at a time.
I love the RSX!
The Rsx and ep3 have issues with wearing out the sliders in the rack, they sell stronger replacements
Why limit yourself to not doing a certain car again? It seems like you're doing these just about every day of the week. You can get through a lot of cars in a year.
goatmonkey2112 ...he tries to do a stock...lightly modified...heavily modified...of each model...a 375whp RSX is it probably until he finds something track ready...
goatmonkey2112 because I have to have something interesting to say. This is my third Acura RSX and I am now out of interesting things to say, so I'm retiring that marque alongside the WRX, GtI, Jetta, etc
But if you release a video everyday you will run out of cars pretty quick if you don't repeat cars.
Never is a long time. I don't care about Acuras, I own one and I think they are totally overrated. But still, think about how many cars you go through each year. I would guess 150 - 200 cars for you? Assuming that you continue to make these videos for years to come, that's a lot of cars. Maybe you're planning on reviewing more older cars at some point, I don't know, but you seem to go for stuff that is within the last 15 years mostly. From where I'm sitting, you will run out of interesting cars in about 2 years (maybe less) of doing small/medium/large builds for each car enthusiasts are generally interested in.
Matt, something's up with your mic, the right channel in the last few videos has a buzz that resonates with engine RPM.
Matt, don't make me ask again, I've been asking for years. Please review a Tykes Kozy Koupe.
🦞 🐙
Hey this car is getting us warmed up for the release to the civic type R.
"On center"👌👌☝️
Farrah should make Smoking Tire shirts that say "ON-CENTER" lmao
To this day, we do not know what kind of short shifter he has LOL
do a weed wacker next!
John Wyskochil u mean the type R weed wacker?
lol
I had a RSX Type-S 06'... it was disappointingly slow. Young me thought it was going to be quick with 200hp. But then i realized its the torque that matters. The car only produced 140 ft lb of torque.
Just get your setup right. My Rsx Puts in all the work, I’ve Gapped, Not walked, 350+ HP cars in my 05 Type S. Still to this day she pulls hard and puts in all the work I need.
it sound nice, good sound good
im determined to have matt drive my lightly modified c5 z06 one day
Man, if it wasn't for the people, I'd move to California. I love my freedom of speech and my guns so I'll just stay here.
Why do people compare the RSX to the Civic ? It’s based off an Integra chassis
A's much as I love RSX's I never really liked the gauges like I do with the integra's... they just don't do it for me and the white doesn't seem as right as the integras.. but otherwise I love this car...
look how salty he got when Matt started roasting his suspension lolol
Thanks to this video I now know how to install a new toilet, thanks lowe's.
rsx is front wheel drive not awd unless you change it
Matt you should do Touge style test with those car, "a la" Best Motoring when they test tuning shop setup!
i would love to; it would be ridiculously expensive though and then i'd have to charge for the video and everyone would call me an asshole.
Underground style, at night!!
Underground touge racing style, that's the way to do it. Call Mike Musto to be the other driver, it would be hilarious to watch him drive a modified Civic or something like that haha
I wanna see Matt do some 04+ Pontiac Grand Prix's GTP or GXP
I have an n/a rsx that has quite a few suspension mods. it's a type s, I will be tracking this year at gridlife. Maybe you could review it.
Matt B he said the last he'll review, so out of luck buddy
LegendInThaMakin Must've missed that part.
this dude mark makes the funniest faces. lol
Matt just totally roasted his car lol, poor owner was salty after 1/3 of the video
I really hope that that 9-3 over there has a TD04-19T or Hollset, to really show what the Saab virus is all about. Nice Acura, by the way!
Ralfs Zemzars that Saab has a stock turbo
:(
Ralfs Zemzars still over 300hp to the wheels
Nice HID projector retrofit. Glovebox seems like an odd place for gauges. If you drive around with it open, doesn't it bounce and bang around all the time?
My question is: is it worth it? I mean, spending money on a turbo kit and other stuff to modify such an old (FWD) car? (I'm not talking just about this specific car, but in general)
lol this dude "I dropped it to be safe" who can't handle 375hp in a fwd car!!
hmm could this be my next car? I do miss evos but I might do something different next. I will have to test drive on.
You should do a stage 2+ MK5 GTI, don't think you've done 5th gen
I had an 04 Rsx type S. Artic Blue. My biggest complaint about it was it being underpowered. If I still had it, I'd probably do something like this.
im sure everyone doesn't always have a wheelwell, so do they have to make one just for you to review their car?
the on center steering issue could be tie rod ends
I don't believe that suspension is very good.
Wait so all turbos get faster high rpm right?
The steering feels like shit because of the bad steering rack slider that no one ever replaces on that chassis! It literally gives you 10-15 degrees of slop
You gotta find yourself a nice boosted or supercharged S2000. Maybe a Nsx if we're lucky.
Lovley car that! Question for your Matt. What's the fastest car you've had the pleasure of driving up the canyon? Not in terms of outright speed but overall package. Cheers
frankay06 the 488 And 675LT are faster than I can think.
