Schaaf: The definition of finest motorcylce content without crappy music. Just pure fun and joy! Thank you so much and keep on going!
Music is something society is putting up inside our asses whether we like it or not
Plus a really clean riding, swift but safe, no reckless overtakes or peg scraping into a blind corner.
@@miroslavmilan Yeah... Unfortunately he had to learn the hard way...
thanks Jan
@@jan3201 Well I cannot truly say that before his awful accident, Schaaf was riding reckless. No Maxwrist stupidity. He was pushing some bikes (not appropriate) too far. But still, I don't remember for ex. much of going into a blind corner on opposite lane. It's really pity for the mistakes he did cost _that_ much. But I'm just happy he's still around. Hopefully without any accident in the future.
Everybody: Kawasaki 650 sounds like a lawnmower!
Schaaf riding a Kawi 650: music to my ears...
:D
I own a Versys 650 which I bought shortly after working at a Yamaha dealership so I can assure you I did not make the wrong choice. It's true the engine is the weak point, because it more or less works in two modes, below 5k rpm and above it. It's perfectly usable and capable for all sorts of riding but when you want to go fast you really have to keep it above 5k or you keep finding yourself with not enough oomph having to wait to spool up. That sounds worse than it is but it's a very small compromise for what the rest of the bike is. Perfectly capable commuter and tourer, very comfortable for passengers and the handling is way better than people give it credit for. It's a testament to Kawasaki's engineering and design that it's made it so many years virtually unchanged save for mainly cosmetic changes. That's just good design from the get go. Suspension is great and adjustable front and rear, not just for preload, which is more than what can be said for most bikes on the market, especially at this price point.
The point is that you get a lot of bike for your buck, and my 07 which is lighter and more compact than the newer ones often feels almost like a supermoto, save for the engine character which is obviously very different than a big single.
Conversely a Tracer 700 seems to be the obvious choice of the market for the category and it's what many will tell you to buy if you express interest in tall sport tourers, and though I completely agree with the fact that the CP2 is a great and fun motor, that's all you get for it. The rest of the bike around the motor is simply not as good as the Versys, so you're basically getting less bike for a bit higher price than the Versys. The Tracer is smaller than the Versys, more bare bones, less capable and versatile with lower ground clearance and turning radius and the obvious weakpoint many have pointed out is the suspension, which is non adjustable.
The fact of the matter is that despite the better engine, it's the Tracer that has to catch up to the Versys and not the other way around.
Thanks for putting the effort in to actually elaborate what I was too lazy to say ;)
Thank you. I have been trying to decide between a versys 650 and tracer 700. You just made my mind up ☺️
Thorough right up man. What about the vstrom 650 compared to the Versys ?
@@tempofugo168 I can't speak for the newer ones but the 1st gen V Strom is a solid bike. Great engine, reliable, a proper little big bike. it's very versatile, roomy, great tourer, punches above its weight in terms of what it offers. I didn't get one because it's not as nimble as the Versys in terms of handling but it's good.
I've never ridden either, so that also says that I've never owned either. I appreciate your comparison. The Tracer 7 isn't available in the USA, but even if it were, even though I think I'd rather have the Tracer, just because of the engine, your review does keep me more interested in the Versys. Every bike has it's pros and cons. Engines aren't what makes the bike the right choice.
Bro these roads are absolutely mental!
thanks Salt mate!
Finally, a video with no stupid music or long-winded subjective commentary...thank you.
I own a 2020 Versys and it's a real pleasure. You can drive smoothly till 6000rpm and then the fun starts. Very enjoyable for long journeys across mountain roads. You want to drive cool and comfortly look at landscapes, stay between 3 and 6000rpm. You want to drive sportly, remain above 6000 up to 10500rpm. Now you have the key of this bike
Thanks Aaron
5000-8000 is it's happy place for twisty road slaying, at least on my 2009. redline is 10,500, but power drops off a cliff at 9500

what an excellent way to start a wednesday, big cup of coffee and this! thanks Schaaf. may all your rides be as fun.
Thanks Mike
Nice raw riding with rev matching downshift 😉😉😉 you killed it mate 🎉🎉🥳🥳
Very impressive! I watched this while eating my dinner and;
1. I am envious of the brilliant road surface,
2. I am impressed by your riding and,
3. I am now feeling slightly sea sick 🤢
Sorry for that :D
These videos put me to sleep. The calm sound of a motorcycle engine, and the wind noise is sweet music to my ears.😄
Glad to hear that!
Absolutely hooked on these 2 cylinder sounds. One of the best, if not the best, videos.
Thanks
The sound is much better in person, believe me. Microphone simply doesn't do it justice.
Thanks for posting, I love my 2016 model, fitted the booster plug to sweeten the bottom end, it pops and bangs I love it. Keep up the great work.
Booster plug?
Sounds great!
To me this engine is one of those workhorse, no fanfare but reliable, types, hardly sexy power figures and isn’t too aurally pleasurable at idle and lower in the rev range either, but once you get on the throttle and as you climb towards the upper end of the rev range, I feel this engine wakes up and you’re greeted with a pretty enticing engine sound. I used to have the Ninja 650 with an SC Project muffler fitted, and around town it really wasn’t all that inspiring, but once I gave it the beans the sounds goaded me to pushing further. Thanks for posting this vid, the sounds heard brought me back to those fond memories. That Ninja was my first bike so it’ll always have a special place in my heart. 😁
Thanks Ben!
Love this bike! Great handling and very practical while still being able to wheelie.
Thanks Andre
Ahh man, I can't describe my feelings. First of all, thank you very much for not breaking my request. Bro, that's the sound that makes me aggressive while driving my 2015. It's been a really crazy ride. I think you are the best and thank you so much again for riding this little beast 🙏
Welcome! Thanks for the comment!
@@Schaaf respect bro 🙏 could you please tell me which tires had on the bike, if you know?
Thank you for posting this! Marvelous.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice motorcycle indeed. And your style is impressive, as always. Kudos to those brave cyclists who climbed this mountain. Cheers from Canada.
thanks Marcel
This road looks fun. Sounds great
thanks
Hi Schaaf! I've been watching your channel for quite a while now, and your videos help me relax and feel excited about riding. I own a Versys 650, and I've been looking forward to seeing you riding it. Now, it's my birthday and you upload this WONDERFUL video. It's a great gift, thank you!
Cheers from Brazili
That is awesome!! Happy birthday Daniel!
Bro what is your opinion about wind protection??
@@kebyen the stock windscreen is ok, but not great. If you want something better, there are plenty of after martket ones, such as the Puig. In the end, I think earplugs are just as important!
Cool road and sick shred…reminds me of my favorite road I call the kart track. I found this video from my curiosity of the Versys 650… New sub 👍
Thanks!
Nice run a usual, that little 650 sounds decent 💥💯😎
Thanks again
Exactly what I've been saying for years, put the Tracer 700 motor in the Versys 650 chassis and you'd have the perfect mid-size sport tourer. I also forgot what the stock Versys engine sound was even like, I've had an aftermarket exhaust on my Versys for years. I wish Kawasaki would update their 650 twin with a 270 degree crank and a bit more power, especially down low, also add cruise control to the Versys 650. For 2022 they gave it a TFT display and traction control (which it really didn't need), but alas no new motor and no cruise control
You have the triumph sport 660 :)
YES I posted a comment about that exact topic. If Kawa would update their 650 to something which is more similar to Yamaha’s cp2 engine, all 650 bikes would sell like crazy! Just imagine how good the ninja 650, z650 and versys would be with a more punchy engine with better characteristics.
I wish Kawaski NOT update its engine to 270 crank! I'm sick and tired of all engines sound the same today. 180 degree is fine, keep it there.
@@robsonenduro3316 Yeah. I don't understand the whole obsession with the 270 crank. In my book this bike sounds just fine as is. Hell, not everything has to sound the same. It's like someone always says or writes something in some review and then everybody is repeating it forever and forever.
that's it! A bit more power down low and it would be basically perfect
Your riding skills is nice on this adventure tourer let the good times roll thank u kawasaki.
Thanks Sunny
Had to sell mine in the first wave. Aside from being a little tall for my frame, would love to own one again. It may not possess the V-twin sound but that induction is still intoxicating. Also great riding as always.
Thanks
I need to buy another. I miss my 2014. The Versys 650 has been refined over the years and it shows. Exactly what you mentioned: suspension, agility, brakes, comfort, wind protection are all tops. The engine is fine. Same as a Ninja 650. More fun to rev than a Yamaha CP2 engine, but lacking the grunt and character. I have my eye on the updated 2022 model Versys 650.
Good choice!
Watching you thrash a parallel twin is just so right! 😆
Thanks!
Mental road! Love it!
thanks
as a Versys 650 owner my self, I do find the engine to be just a wee bit quiet, but it really comes alive in the twisties, all day long fun and the fact you don't have to worry about the fuel with its 5.5 gallon tank is a plus for me. it's really a functional bike over all
it is versatile, as promised ;)
How was the sound recorded or with which microphone and where did you put it?
Nice video, you mentined than handling is good, but wanted to ask you did you feel that the engine vibrates a lot and is disturbing because you feel it in handlebar, pegs and saddle? Also did you feel that it is top heavy (in general not with the bags) and it's harder to lean and keep it leane din the corners? I am asking because I am a new rider looking into Versys 650, Vstrom 650xt or Tracer 700 from 2019 and saw some reviews saying that versys is harder to handle and want to straighten up and go straight on braking or acceleraton and that it vibrates a lot above 4-5k rpms. Currently the tracer 700 is top of my list but heard that it has soft suspension and I plan to ride week long trips with passanger and bags and I am really not sure.
Can you please help me with your opinion?
Those roads 😍 there's nothing even remotely like that here in Canada. The intake sound on the Versys 650 is very nice... I prefer that to a loud exhaust since it's only loud when you're wide open throttle. Although that means you're at WOT all the time.
well on a road like this definitely ;)
Thanks man I enjoyed that.
Glad you enjoyed it
Schaaf What is your opinion about versys650 or Honda nc750x I know you've driven both bikes which feel better? Thank you
Megaaaaa
Die Strecke GC 65 bin ich jetzt im Jänner 5 mal gefahren, voll leiwand 👏👏👏

Wow! What a playground!

That road is insane! Love to ride it...wish it was one way. LOL!
thanks
Been there in November with this bike on exactly this road as well. It was leiwand! 😊👍
Very nice!!
Awesome video! I’ve been thinking of getting one of these.. mostly just to commute on.. I love my cruiser, but I think a Versys would be a great “get around town” bike!
The Versys is a great "do everything" bike. Commutes well, is a lot of fun in the twisties as you could tell from this video, and is very comfortable for long distances. I've done multiple 500+ mile days on my Versys with no issue.
it would be perfect for that indeed
I miss my Versys 650. It was SO comfortable and although 220kg is pretty heavy, it felt so playful.
I'd love to hear about your recording setup. I'm a newb at this an only get wind noise 😅
Finally you got on the Versys 650. I’ve got one myself 😎
Nice!
@@SchaafAnd now I’ve had the v1000 for a year and am looking to switch back to the 650, the new one. And in the future, maybe a Guzzi.
I love the left turns
thanks
How to do compare Versys/Tracer7/NC750x? You rode it all.
If I rode that road, I'd have to make sure I didn't eat anything first. I'd get sick!! Sooooo many curves. Looks like you had great fun. You are a maestro on the motorcycle!
I sure had! Thanks!
You never get sick on a motorcycle. You would in a car though.
@@PebbzorI only start to feel sick n a car when I’m not driving. 😂
Great bike I just love mine here in UK👍👍
Thanks Michael
Did I see you mostly shifting up without using the clutch lever, mate?
At last...a versys vid showing HOW to get the most out of it! Keep the motor spinning and mix quick decisions with the momentum. I've had so many bikes but picked up a versys while my bmw was getting a resto (At 87k)...should be called a 3 stroke (halfway between 2&4). Swiss army knife bike...you're not going to fell a tree or do brain surgery but for everything in between its a go to tool.
Excellent road skills to you👏..courtesy and pace without putting others at risk.
thanks a lot Nick
where is its please?
very nice video !
Thanks
wiedergut gefahren, Vale ntin :)
Danke, Zoltán!
Nice driving as always! I own the versys and I feel you could change gear at higher revs to get more power, this bike has really long gears which allows you to maintain the same gear between curves.
Yes that is correct but I couldn't stand the noise it creates in high revs ;)
Haha yeah it gets a bit noisy. Greetings from Guatemala!
Try pacelo engine oils and a b&h filter 😉
@@Akilisgothikit helps?
Nice driving dude
thanks
Excelentttt!!!!multiproposito!!!off road!!!

Stock exhaust?
Had a 2018 Versys, not fancy but extremely practical. Enough for the curve, great visual angle and nimble for the urban traffic.
Nice!
Still have my 2017 V. 😉
great vid as always schaaf, but what did they use to clean the windshield?..it gets al kinda colors in the sun!!....
no idea :)
Did 100k on 07 model so far. Love this bike.
Awesome!
Hello schaaf! Which bike do you think is better overall for touring/occasional twisties, versys 650 or the tracer 700?
Both are excellent choices
Que espetáculo de moto 👏🤘
Thanks
Very nice riding and a great video. I also watched the Tracer 700 video, which one do you like more? This one or the Tracer 700? Because you mentioned you didn't like the suspension of the Tracer 700 ;P.
Somewhere I said it. I need the Versys with the Tracer engine. Then it is perfect
woow the roads!! Where did you mount the mic this time, behind jacket?
yea just like I do with my bagpack but I couldn't bring that to GC so I used a small fanny pack instead
Is this bike top heavy? Is it easy to throw around at low speed? I've currently got a KLR but I'm sick of fixing the thing so I'm looking at one of these, after this video it's clear it can be ripped
Thanks
it's very easy to manoeuvre at any speed!
Stock sound?
I will own one of these one day, just not quite sure in which guise yet? The Versys, Z650RS or the Vulcan 650s? Going to be doing some Touring in the Alps with my son on his CB650R and general riding in the UK, maybe some commuting!
The Versys definitely is my favourite. Does it all
Is the bike equiped with a quickshifter? I didn't notice any clutch handling on the upshift or I'm just really blind
I upshift clutchless
Finaly, but i hope you gonna make video about versys 650 2022
Probably not
@@Schaaf ok
I miss my versys in some ways. Surprisingly competent and flickable in the corners. Even given the front suspension is quite soft.
Thanks
It's been great. So long awaited. Comparing with nc750x, tracer700 and versys, which one gave you more thrill, better handling, brakes and general driving feeling? Which one of the three would you rather have?
the Tracer is the most thrill by far but it unfortunately has the worst suspension. Still I'd get the Yamaha and just change the suspension
Woo woo
Thanks
Oh my god. I recognize this street from Dirt Rally 2 :D That's insane :D
nice!
Love It! I find a bit harsh to do clutchless upshifting on my versys 650 , despite of doing It smoothly with other motorcycles... What was your experience with the bike regarding those upshifts?
I think it's just something to do with the fueling on Kawis; my 400 is sorta harsh doing clutchless upshifts up until about 4th gear or so, even when I'm trying really hard to keep the bike level. 5th and 6th are pretty smooth though.
it indeed was not the most pleasant experience ;)
I found it fine once you start doing it from 4 and up.
@@Snoupityi agree, the higher the gear the better.
The 650 Versys is a great machine for the twisties and for munching miles.
If you love gravel roads just put some TKC70's on her and the fun continues.
I guess one of the greatest and most versatile bikes out there for the price - oh and she's deadly reliable.
A machine for people who love riding and not posing in front of ice cafes.
But as you mentioned - just a bit more power and it would be nearly a perfect bike.
yup!
Hey Seb I echo your thoughts. Can I ask what other bikes you would consider? As the Versys 650 is my first bike and all I know. Want to munch miles comfortably ; have a ball in the twisty and not be afraid to hit a rough gravel road and progress to 4wd tracks. I was thinking Aprilia Tuareg?
Lack of power is probably why I'll have to upgrade. It will be a sad day indeed, my V and me have come a long way, I love that bike to death. 🥺
@@willd0gI guess the Tuareg will get the job done with ease. I like that it has tubeless wheels but I really don't like the look of it. I'm personally also not a huge fan of italian bikes in general but that is a personal thing.
I'm thinking of a Tiger 900 as my next bike but I'm not sure tbh, as I don't want so much electronics and it's not really cheap. And: My Versys 650 brought me to every place I wanted, has been super reliable for 50k kms so far and does everything I ask her for...so not really a reason to replace my workhorse ;-)
What happen to rainbow-ish color on the windshield?
That's just some weird optical effect I can't explain. But everything was fine with it.
How is the engine vibration throughout the rev range on these? Just the sound from the video makes my phone vibrate!
Pfft, it's a Kawasaki get real , it vibes at idle but not noticable after that.
Tolles Bike. Hätte ich nicht so ein gutes Angebot für eine '16er S1000XR bekommen, würde ich immernoch meine '08er Versys fahren.
Sauber
I ♥️ my Versys.....
Nice!
Finnaly a good Versys 650 onboard... Lovely bike, extremly cheap,... Just a note, it sounds and looks like (due to the revs) you were just above the power on the revs.
I was underneath the power most of the time. I couldn't stand the sound that's why I never went there
@@Schaaf sorry english aint my first language and i mixed above and belov. But yes ehat i wanted to say was that you were belov the power. But tbh i freakeing love the sound it makes above 3.5k revs on my 18 versys 650.
Appreciate the content! BTW, how was vibration at handlebar, footpegs, mirrors etc? Say at around 100-120kmph. Thanks in advance.

Which bike do you consider more fun, versys 650 or nc750x ?
Depends on how you define fun

If you don't want the power of a 1000 cc engine but the ride comfort of these type of bikes. Is this a contender or do you prefer a other one. Knowing i will drive it most of the time on paved roads

ruclips.net/video/A_lVU5NGIUY/видео.html
so many people talking about tracer 7 engine. Honestly, the difference in power is splitting hairs and the only difference is the way you have to ride them. Yamaha feels more punchy and alive and kawa 650 more linear and predictable but if reved matches the performance. For a daily ride and prefer a linear motor even if many consider it boring
It's the sound, the delivery, and the vibrations that annoy me on the Versys.
So which one is better...Tracer 700 or Versys?
Neither
Good beginner bike? I know it’s a 650cc but looks mostly tame.
it definitely is
I bought Yamaha Thunderace last year. I love it but i keep thinking maybe a bike like this could be more for me. Not that Ace isn't agile and have much of low torque but something like this could work for me better.
maybe!
