years ago, BC, they made a single wheel on a spring loaded shaft you could connect to the lead edge of a gate and that roller would slow the sag. Guess I could make on for my old yard gate.
I've never been jealous more than two times in my life. The first time was when Billy Bob Thornton got to sweat under naked Halle Berry in a movie and this is the second time, watching you rocking those Felders!

Holy mother of moo cow, man... These are some not the most magnificent gates I've ever seen.👌🏽 They ooze perfection, absolutely love them, awesome design and build, mate.👍🏽
Great looking project. Those are some big oak doors. I looked up Briwax "Hard wax oil". It looks like a product for interior use. I hope these gates hold up to the elements with that finish.
OAK doesn’t need any oil last 200 years or more outside with no finish, Personally I don’t like bright orange gates I like to silver and age so I had to hardback soil for the first year or two just by the gate settle
Very nice. I think you laid out the cross braces in the correct orientation as well. The weight load on those should be directed toward the hinge side of the gate. I see some people do it the other way and the end result is sagging.
fox wedged mortise and tenons on your rails would have kept your style edges clean. other than that i love your work, those are by far the best built gates on youtube hands down and ya that's one sweet shop.
I know that watching and watching the videos you learn a lot but sometimes it is not enough and certain details can escape so it would be nice if you made a video to explain in detail how the interlocking system of the vertical slats works 🤗
For exterior doors I always cut my tenons on the tablesaw, but your technique on the spindle moulder is much easier. It generates a clean cut and the tenons remain parallel to the faces of the rails, and dialing in the height of the cut is also pretty easily adjustable. Can I ask for the details of the cutting tool you're using on your Hammer F3? I might purchase a similar one.
Another great looking gate. I'm trying to find the router bits you used, especially the edge bevel/chamfer router bit. You showed beveling/chamfering the top rail, it looks like you beveled/chamfered the mid rail and the bottom rail too. I need to take down my gate and bevel its rails and a fresh coat of finish.
This is so unfair!!! All I have is a couple Festool tools thinking I’m about to make a gate for Heaven and YOU GOT ALL THESE BIG TOOLS😂😂😂😂😂😳😳😳😳 JUST KIDDING--NICE WORK THIS VIDEO KEEPS ME KNOWING ONE DAY ILL BE RIGHT HERE!!!! God Bless!!!
@@ManorWood Okay, I get it. You sprayed the door with oil. 99 to 1 for you. Then I would like to reduce my criticism to the principle that a systematic approach is almost always advantageous.
Hi Manor Wood, which cutter do you use at 4:43, i've never seen one like that. Where can i buy this one? Do you use the high-speed spindle from Felder, for this cutter? Best regards from Austria Gerhard
Thanks for sharing. I was wandering about wood movement as once you've nailed all the vertical wood to the frame at the bottom it won't allow any movement.
@@Ed-ti1ss wood contracts and expands cross grain, so it won't expands upwards. Even thought @manor wood say is not a problem I still see it as an issue.
Great video, always an inspiration. Does anyone know how you calculate expansion/shrinkage in the t&g boards please? I'd like to replicate this for my gates (at a very amateur level) and don't want to see all the boards bowing up the first time the weather changes. Thank you.
They look very nice with those rustic stone walls. Hmm that morticer is pretty good, do you think it’ll take over a lot of work you were doing with the domino XL?
@@ManorWood I think getting the load transferred onto the hinge point is the key from a structural point of view. Anything else puts elements in bending.
Hi Andy. Which dominos are you using? Looks like you are using a mixture of internal and external? As the internal ones are beech it has always puzzled me why they are internal only according to Festool
Not sure what you mean, oak is a traditional wood for historic English homes and farms , I live in a 17c. It’s the perfect choice , aside in my area it’s part of the vernacular
@@ManorWood i was just saying in the uk i would use a different wood if it was for the outside, Oak gets black marks very quickly when when it gets wet or damp, oak was always used yrs ago before we importing different hardwoods, these days doors windows gates wood be made of Iroko or Meranti, most of our joinery manufacturers wouldn't recommend Oak
@@ManorWood looks stunning. Would love to see how it ages over the coming months / years. Full of character and will still look amazing when it’s started to silver. Are you going to keep retreating?
Beautiful gates. You've just given me another job to procrastinate over.
A thing of beauty is a joy to behold. Inspiring! I'm imagining the aroma of oak being worked. Dream job!
Very impressive work. Did anyone notice the shop door at 10:45 into the video? Now that's a monster hinged door.
Stunning. Gorgeous.
Thank you! Cheers!
boy you do some quality work. that is one solid gate, will definitely last generations, if taken care of.

Really lovely set of gates !
What a fabulous workshop and the equipment is incredible, no wonder he can mske such fabulous products
Some serious equipment. I'd love to spend a week in your shop
Excellent job.Lifetime gate !!!
Absolutely beautiful work. And what a workshop!
I seen these bad boys when I was in the workshop and they were looking absolutely beautiful 😍
some wonderful machinery in use thank you for the video

You , my friend , should be proud of that job .

out standing brilliant gates
Nice workmanship!
A joy to watch. If I ever need gates like that I will not be scrimping . Guess fitted price would be around £3k ?
you would get change :)
The braces aren’t triangulated there chap. It’s too rail to stile, for braces. They’re effectively doing nought.
Brilliant. Quality job
Hi Andy, how about doing a little exposé on how you came to be a woodworker and entrepreneur? Would love to hear your backstory!

I'm guessing your slabs are from a wood mill? They look like they would be. And to have those tools....very good, tip top woodwork you do! 😊
Amazing work as usual, love the attention to detail.

cool mortising machine, what is it? Lovely looking gate!
Good job! You're not getting paid for them, but you don't have to pay anybody for labor, design and good looks either ;-)
what you heat your carpentry shop with?
With systematic work you can achieve better results, e.g. the painting.
Paint on English oak!! Wow that would be criminal lol

Felder do help make lighter work of a job, nicely done, a fine pair.

Where's you bought the gate hinge from?

Super 😀👍

Wow. Freaking amazing

Przepraszam , gdzie impregnacja..
Great job. They look awesome especially next to that stone wall. What did you treat the timber with?
Hard wax oil :)
The moticer looks hard work compared to the pull down handle type that i have always used even a chain /chisel one back in the 1960 ,s
lovely gates do you glue the tgv onto your frame ? thx
No glue , just nailed
Very nice build. Curious how many sq feet is your shop?
11m x 12m. I thick
what finish did you go with?
What glue are you using?
Shouldn't the diagonal braces go from corner to corner?
Not always , these are wide, getting the braces as close to 45° is the key . Sometimes have them corner to corner this wide can force the M&T apart
