I've been meaning to watch Total Recall for a while, and it's not available on any streaming service in Italy. Such a shame, I guess I'll buy a blue-ray because I refuse to rent a movie online for 10 bucks
7:40 "I need an explanation how he's still alive." OK. He wore body armor so his heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, spleen, stomach, all the vital stuff, didn't get hit. His arms are a mess. The final shot to his head is usually fatal. But... The American Medical Association statistics say that about 10% of people survive being shot in the head. Murphy almost made it into that 10%, but not quite. He survived briefly, but still flatlined.
There is a community remake of the entire movie, done by parceling out scenes to entirely different groups, all with their own vision. It is absolutely not suitable for your first experience with this movie, but is now worth checking out. (Just checked for reuploads on RUclips; there is one.)
I think you're underestimating the quality of the writing. This movie has a lot of social commentary in it. In fact, I would say that's what makes it so memorable for people like me even though it's a fun action movie as well.
It actually seems to be a common thing in sci-fi movies from the 80s, to have a layer of social commentary hidden underneath the explosions and the cheesy one-liners! Terminator had the same thing going on
You didn't understand that time had passed between Murphy being shot and Robocop waking up. That's because you're young. Not your fault. But I'm talking about how movies are made now and how they were made 4 decades ago (or older). Today, we are used to seeing "6 months later" or some such thing. That's a fairly modern idea in movies. But, I bet most of the movies YOU have watched were made in the last 20 years or so. Back when this movie was made, most directors didn't put text in your face like "6 months later". Instead, they just showed you. The montage of scenes with Murphy losing his remaining arm, the Christmas party, the handshake, etc. This lets you know that time is passing. Then a short while later, we see his home with old leaves in it, like it's long abandoned. Then his partner tells him that his family thought he was dead and they moved away. This all adds up to YOU figuring out that time had passed instead of the director splashing text on the screen. That's how it was done in the old days. Today, people don't really like figuring movies out, so directors tell us everything. If this movie were made today, it would start with Robocop walking through the police station, then we'd get a "6 months EARLIER" text, see Murphy being shot, then we would see a couple of his medical staff telling us a giant exposition about what they cut off, what they saved, and why they didn't tell his family, all of it would happen in the first 5 minutes. Why the change? Streaming. If people today don't have all the info and understand the entire movie within the first few minutes, they change the channel. That wasn't a problem in the 80s.
First time watcher. Where is Penny, her speech intonation, pentameter, and accent are very intriguing. The colorful commentary is spot on as well.Gonna check out more reactions now.
Cotton Eye Joe!!! OMG really?!?!?! That is hilarious!! I always love your one liners and you had many good ones in this movie reaction and typically there is a music reference too but "where does it come from, where does it go", was just over the top!! I'm glad I hadn't just taken a sip of something because it would have sprayed all over the place!! LOL Great reaction Penny and thank you so much for the belly laugh although I can tell I'm going to be singing Cotton Eye Joe for the next few hours if not days!!
The writing was actually waaaay more intellectual than people give it credit for. "Robocop" exists as a pure sci-fi film on one level, and on another it serves as a scathing satire on unchecked American capitalism on the verge of complete dystopia. It's smart, brutal, and above all...prescient.
Notice how both Dick Jones and Clarence Boddiger used the same "Good business is where you find it" line? The line between blue and white collar crime is more smudged than most might think.
20:01 "He's also a llama, apparently" I almost spat my diet coke over my computer screen. XD Also Robocop was made in roughly 3 months. In the boardroom earlier in the movie, Bob said they could go to prototype within 90 days.
@9:50 -- in fact, the robosuit was too big to fit in a regular car, so weller didn't wear the "pants". so robocop wasn't actually "smaller than he looks". from imdb: "peter weller didn't fit into the police car in full costume. when he needed to be in the car, he wore the top part of the costume and sat in his underwear. to maintain the illusion that robocop wears the entire suit while inside a car, most shots show his robotic feet exiting first."
There are two actors from Twin Peaks in Robocop, Miguel Ferrer (who played the rude and arrogant FBI agent Albert in Twin Peaks) and Ray Wise (who played Laura Palmer’s father Leland in Twin Peaks).
Wonderful reaction Penny! I really like this movie series, I hope you watch the rest of them! I love your commentary and jokes! Best wishes always!! 🙂❤
I am so happy I have found your channel! Really enjoying your commentary, I will likely be binging your videos for the foreseeable future. Keep up the great work! 😄
People liked this film. It is fun. At same time ,you see Robocop's problem, his memory is broken but he feels his past. He was a robot and understand he was human and accept his new life as cop. A second life for him. And the bad Clarence is so sympatic (if there is no money to kill you). Stopping the film on "Murphy" is an incredible idea (the hero is here).
The first reactions always call this a simplistic script, I think this is one of the strongest points of this movie. At first sight it´s a very straight forward story and it works perfectly as a sci-fi action movie, but if you start thinking about it there is a lot of meaning behind.
I would love to do a Robocop cosplay, down to the opening thigh compartments and sliding gun holsters, but that would be time consuming and expensive to replicate. (Due to the fact that the gun holster never actually functioned the way we see in the movie behind the scenes. To achieve the fact a full-size prop replica of Robocop's leg was made that a puppeteer could pull a lever and make the holster open on its thigh. But the suit Peter Weller is wearing doesn't actually have it. Movie magic, awesome but disappointing at the same time.) Maybe the gun holster is wishful thinking, but the outfit would be awesome.
Yesss Night Goddess Penny, greetings from an old Software Engineer from Chile. I've Been watching all your reactions and they are so assertive and creative. Love your italian accent, and how you end with double consonant almost every word❤❤❤! Yes, no doubt you must react to Totall Recall, Starship Troopers, and of course Robocop 2 & 3. Include in that list The Running Man, The Madmax & Furiosa movies... and don't Forget Equilibrium (no one has reacted yet) & The Fifth Element!!!!
Ronnie Cox played Dick Jones. He was also in Total Recall with Schwarzenegger and in The Car (about a demonic car). Robocop 2 has it's moments but that where you should stop. Have you seen The Blues Brothers? Lot of car action in that one!
I only saw bits and pieces of The Blues Brothers on tv, never the whole thing! Plus, it was on the Italian television, fully dubbed, so they probably changed a lot of jokes as well. Definitely gonna watch it soon
There have been quite a few examples of people who survived penetrating trauma to the head. Most probably didn't have as many other injuries as Murphy did, but I think it's acceptable for this movie.

The big guns at the finale are based of real guns but the fear it was too iconic so they build a plastic shell over it too make it look bigger Theres a funny story and clip on youtube off a behind the scenes /documentry of robocop where peter weller the actor of robocop had a brief spat with the sets weapon master randy e moore
Loving your channel and reactions so far!!! Hope you come back to The Man With No Name trilogy soon and watch Clint Eastwood’s “For a Few Dollars More” And another phenomenal film that you will love! That will be right up your alley! “True Romance” (1993) Cannot recommend this film enough! You will love it!
You like the ACTION!! Very nice! A scan of your channel and I don't see the LETHAL WEAPON movies (x4) or the DIE HARD movies. The first of each are set during CHRISTMAS 🎄🎁 Great Reaction Penny! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
Some weeks ago I came across this attractive young lady's channel and she immediately captivated me with her clever and hilarious sense of humour and enchanting Italian accent. 😊 Dear Penny, now, after having watched three or four videos of yours I finally subscribed and would like you to know you how much I am amused and entertained by your film reactions. Great work! I'm looking forward to seeing more... Greetings and best regards from your neighbouring country Austria! 🙂
Great reaction video. I don't know what you've seen but "Total Recall" (1990), "The Running Man" (1987), "Die Hard" (1988 ?), and more recently "Train To Busan" (2016) are absolute winners. But maybe don't guzzle all the greats too quickly.❤️
Hi Penny, I loved seeing your reaction to this classic film from the '80s. Please can I ask, is your accent Italian? I think that you have a lovely voice by the way.
Greetings Penny! I'm enjoying your reactions very much. I sincerely hope you have haven't seen the Back to the Future films because I really want to see your reactions to them. They're absolutely classic, loads of fun, and the best movie trilogy ever. I don't care what the Lord of the Rings fans say.
I've only seen those with full Italian dub, and I don't know how much of a good job they did with translation and adaptation! I really want to rewatch a lot of movies I've seen as a child, but never in the original language, because I know sometimes translations have been sloppy
@PennyisWatching ok, well, the movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Robert Downey Jr. & Val Kilmer is a clever mystery, if you haven't seen it, and it's perfect for the Christmas season. Great action scenes too. Some of the best writing on screen. Looking forward to your next upload. Happy holidays!
The most worrying and disappointing thing about this future America/World, is the coldness, de-humanisation of it all. that is not Science fiction, but reality, the tone being set by the national Government, & corrupt Corporate World, between them after the 80s it was "the caring 90s" but now in 2025 were seeing a forced return to the past that ultimatly failed
Every Halloween, I tell people my costume is Morticia Addams. It's the laziest costume ever, I just have to put on a long black dress and exaggerate my make up - cheap and effective, mother nature did the rest
I’ve been a big fan of your reactions and have followed you for quite a while now. I have both the special blu ray editions of Robocop 1 and 2. Part 3 is garbage. Robocop 1 is the best. I believe part 2 gets a bad rap. Not as good as 1 but an enjoyable movie in its own right. Will you be doing a reaction to part 2? Would love to see it. Keep up the great work!
They told me in the comments that if I watch part 2 I'll discover what happened to the wife, and now I feel invested so I'll probably end up watching it!
Hey Penny! are you going to do any content related to the new nosferatu movie ? a video react to the first nosferatu movie maybe? I hope so. you have a perfect look for it. an aristocratic villain look, very cool.
Can you believe that in the US they made Robocop into a kids cartoon? The cleaned all of the gore and killing out of it of course, so to most 80’s kids it wasn’t as good as the movie lol Also Robocop 2 doesn’t get a lot of love, but it’s a really good sequel imo. Make sure you stop there though, the Robocop movies after that are god awful.
robocop is pretty famous, so if his wife is still alive, she must either be really far away, or not wanting to have a robohusband.. she mightv signed his body over to them for money too.. she seemed a little odd in his memories.. but so was murphy.. so.. who knows.. it almost feels like the wife and son were killed, because of the strange condition of the house.. but, that might just be because the city is so messed up, and they were showing burned stuff and things left by the family there for some reason.. or it might just be so that it will bring back robo memories for movie sake
They say in the movie that he signed the papers when he joined the force, they had a clause that gives them permission to do what they want with his body.
@@platinumspider7859 who knows what kind of papers they had.. you have to be a dr seuse charactor to understand legal crap in this world, or robocop world
You have to see Showgirls by the same director. It's so bad it's good. Kyle MacLachlan stars. Not sure you could do a RUclips react bc of the amount of nudity. .

I've been meaning to watch Total Recall for a while, and it's not available on any streaming service in Italy. Such a shame, I guess I'll buy a blue-ray because I refuse to rent a movie online for 10 bucks

OK.

@@He11aHunn Yeah, I saw some stats all over the place.
I took the lowest one I found.
Yeah a friend of mine was shot in the head and survived so it's definitely possible
I thought the body armor could only help for a few shots, and then it would become useless. Guess I was underestimating how effective they can be!

14:19 The actor playing Emil is Paul McCrane. For a while he was in the American medical drama series _E.R._ as Dr Robert Romano.
It feels like that character losing his arm was a nod to Robocop.
McCrane has had several gnarly deaths
Oh. My. God. How did I not recognize him??? I was basically born watching ER and saw the whole thing because my mom loved it
20:00 "He's also a llama, apparently" was unexpected ... loved it.
Another from this director: The original 'Total Recall', with Arnie, guns, explosions, grizzly deaths, etc. Hilariously stomach-turning. ; )

robocop is pretty famous, so if his wife is still alive, she must either be really far away, or not wanting to have a robohusband.. she mightv signed his body over to them for money too.. she seemed a little odd in his memories.. but so was murphy.. so.. who knows.. it almost feels like the wife and son were killed, because of the strange condition of the house.. but, that might just be because the city is so messed up, and they were showing burned stuff and things left by the family there for some reason.. or it might just be so that it will bring back robo memories for movie sake
Not sure you could do a RUclips react bc of the amount of nudity. .
Love too what up there.
The sequel is pretty good. After that, not so much.
You look like Morticia Addams
Is it just me, or do you sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger's little sister?
