So after wearing the same two hoodies on rotation for the past few years, I decided it was time to invest in a quality pair so naturally I went out and bought one at every price point to find out where the best quality for value lies. We're going to be testing 6 hoodies to find the best hoodie for men on the market.
Let's start with the cheapest and work our way up to find the best mens hoodie. Here we have the Champion Reverse Weave Hoodie. This has a boxy oversized fit that is super heavy. The build and finishing on it is okay but it gets by due to the price it's offered.
Next we have American Giant's Pullover Hoodie. It's marketed as the Greatest Hoodie Ever Made was I was excited to test it out. This one was built super well, all in the USA. The details and finishing were great. This had a regular fit, not quite as relaxed as Champion or as tight as some of the other ones. The hoodie is nice and thick making it perfect for cooler days. Overall it was a huge step up in quality from the previous one.
Let us move on to Asket's Hoodie. Asket is a great brand that makes sustainable clothing. The hoodie here was constructed well and had a cotton exterior with a terry interior. The fit was on the slimmer end but it looks great when you wear it with jeans/chinos versus joggers. You can tell that it was definitely made to wear out and look put together.
Next we have Reigning Champs Hoodie in the head to head to find the best hoodie for men. Reigning Champs is a Reddit favorite so I was excited to get it in. It had a more deconstructed look with the flat lock seam details compared to some of the minimal options shown here. It's a thinner hoodie making it good for year round wear and the fit is similar to Asket's hoodie.
Lady White Co is next on the list. I got my hands on two of their hoodies but am focusing on the Super Weighted hoodie. It's substantial in terms of weight and features a relaxed fit. The construction makes it seem like it's a cropped hoodie without it actually being so. It's very comfortable and the details were all perfectly executed. The fabric is an 18oz ring spun cotton with a coarse terry interior. I wear mine year round but it shines in the cooler months.
The John Elliott Villain Hoodie was popular a few years back and was worn by a ton of celebrities. It features two zippers on the sides and a soft, thinner cotton fabric with a terry interior. The hoodie's style is quite dated but the quality is really good. The price point is high for what it provides but it's regularly found on sale.
Finally we have Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Hoodie. It cost $850 at retail and fit very slim so size up 1 or 2 sizes. It's a heavy cotton hoodie with features similar to Asket's Hoodie. The signature design of this hoodie is the screen printed minimal Saint Laurent Logo. It's a subtle flex and turns heads when people see you wearing it. The build on it is great but you can find similar quality at much lower prices.

Believe it or not, my favorite hoodie is the Land's End Serious Sweats full zip hoodie. It screams "classic".
My go to hoodie is one from Paul Smith. Its a pretty dense One, so its for colder days, but im from Sweden, so we have lots of em here 😉
not my favourite because i dont have one yet. but the best cost no object hoodie ive seen from an objective standpoint is from Boncoura a Japanese clothing company. they have the best pocket t as well. ive got the pocket t and at 9oz its the best and the fitting is based on old kimono fittings for a cool twist.

Hey, quick tip on clothes in general, you can't really tell true quality until you wash the clothes. A lot of these may change in fit, soften/roughen, or even pill hard as you wash them. Brands have also shifted to providing multiple fits (such as relaxed or fitted) and multiple thicknesses (heavyweight, midweight, light, etc)

Thank you for posting these videos, they’re a great insight into men’s clothing. I recently brought a Reigning Champ hoodie which I’m very impressed with the quality of this garment. Lovely attention to detail and sturdiness. I also tried on a Saint Laurent Rive Gauche hoodie expecting that ‘wow’ factor but was left a little disappointed! There’s only so far you can go with a hoodie, it’s a basic essential. I don’t think the Saint Laurent hoodie offers good value for money, being heavily weighted by a designer label.

Great video, I also own the AG and RC ones and I also tend to gravitate towards the AG one. For a round two I would love to see Aime Leon Dore hoodie since its 185 and 21 oz made in Canada, so overall seems like a decent price for a premium hoodie.
Love ALD need to snag some pieces from that at some point

Im a sucker for higher end items so saint laurent is my fav out of evrything you showed, while asket is second (just becuase I love the brand so much!). Was very suprised by white lady co becuase it looked great on you.
If you're looking for more categories I would recommend chinos since there are so many great options ( everlane for budget and asket / norse projects for crazy quality).

Saint Laurent was great but for most people the Asket will be more than enough at a much lower price. That being said, my Saint Laurent one isn’t going anywhere haha
my fav of all time was a lighter weight reversible hoodie from Vince, sadly I wore it so much over a 5 year period it started to fall apart but they make pretty nice hoodies that aren't hard to get on sale. Clothing sales not doing so hot these days. James Perse is also nice but their stuff wears insanely quick.

AG no longer replaces their garments when they fall apart and after a couple years, the cuff on my classic began to split. The more expensive storm hoodie has a plastic zipper and is lighter in weight than the classic. Not sure where the extra $$ is in the storm hoodie. Prefer the classic except for the poor sleeve cuff quality. Also have a mid weight RC hoodie and love it.

These were all cotton based for the most part. Really want to get my hands on some cashmere ones one of these days

@@asim yeah I’m not trying to sound rude. I think that most purchases over $100 should be for a jacket that hits more bases. My favorite would be the Arc’teryx Proton LT (I’m a rock climber.) but that jacket is incredible!

I just ordered the RC graphic series slim fit midweight autograph hoodie and sweatpants both in heather grey (satin stitch autograph logo embroidered on chest of hoodie and thigh of sweatpants). I wanted a matching set 🙌
I really appreciate that you are conscious of sustainability. I've been trying to buy clothes more responsibly. Thank you for taking this into consideration. I'd love to see a video for best sustainable company overall. So many of the companies that make clothes that are eco friendly look like they are making clothes for cult members. I do not want to go live on a commune, I just want clothes that don't involve slave labor or the destruction of the environment.
Sustainability is huge, not to generalize but for the most part as long as they aren’t fast fashion place, you’re normally okay
@@asim You're absolutely wrong about this. A lot of luxury brands source their materials from forced labour and share little to no information about their sustainability practices. You should always do a quick search for info on that matter after having decided to buy something from a brand you're not sure about. It doesn't cost you much time, but sure is worth it!
Yeah I wasn’t trying to generalize with that statement. I always try to do my due diligence and run searches but when information isn’t readily available there’s not much you can do.
You should definitely try the Essentials FOG hoodie in your next vid cause it's said to be the best bang for your buck!

Could you do a video on how you wash all your clothes from hoodies to T shirts? Whenever I wash my T shirts and hoodies, the quality of the fabric seems to go bad after a few washes.
Yeah for sure but not much to it. Turning clothes inside out, washing on cold or warm instead of hot, and hang drying the expensive stuff seems to work the best for me. Not going to lie and say everything hasn’t hit the dryer at some point or another
wish you would have tried a Fear of God mainline hoodie instead of the YSL (Not Essentials) but you should check them out sometime

American Giant makes a fantastic hoody. Pricey but very good construction, heavy and warm. Nothing feels cheap about their hoodys. I also have a Champion hoody and that thing is trash compared to the AG. Champion is 50% cotton and 50% poly with a ton of pilling. It’s too loose and baggy but I keep it as a beater hoody for gym workouts.

Dude, I've been following your videos over the past few years after finding them in r/FrugalMaleFasion and they are second to none. Exactly what I was looking for. Could you please do one for long sleeve shirts or Henleys? I look forward to all your content.
I want to like American Giant (ordered a jacket from them), but the fit is sloppy and that hood is cartoonish.
The Asket looks sharp, yet with only 4 colors that eliminates them. O
My go to is Cuts. They have some incredible colors. The only problem is that that they are always cycling in new Colors and some seasons have nothing for me.
They are my go to company for hoodies, henleys, t-shirt hoodies. Again, just hit and miss depending on the season.
Luckily Askets colors cover 90% of your bases. Cuts was slightly tight in the mid section when I bought a tee from them a year or two ago but I need to check out the rest of the lineup one of these days.
@@asim those 3 Asket colors certainly don’t meet my color needs. (I don’t count the mud green because it’s atrocious).
I only have one cuts t-shirt, but about 10 hoodies and henleys, a polo, a t-shirt Henley They do offer multiple fits, but I stick to the classic. I like that fitted, clean look.

Been a RC fan for a couple years. Own a hoodie, couple pairs of sweatpants, shorts. Great quality all made in Canada. Swear by the brand. If you’re overweight I’d look elsewhere.
