And I thought I was weird when I was looking around for a new guitar and one of the first things that put me off from buying certain brands was the position of the volume knob like this. Ha, ha ha!
@@itnefer4787 Yeah. My pinky bumps it and slowly rolls it off. Super annoying. Another half inch away and it would be perfect. Fender Starts? I have one with a volume, a tone, a hole right next to the bridge pickup.
I'm sure it plays and sounds incredible, but for a fraction of that price I'm making my own version with parts from Warmoth. It doesn't even have the Duncan anymore, let alone the Kahler.
To be fair Jerry used Motor City pickups in his personal one’s starting when William joined the band although he is using Duncan’s again in his Gibson’s
This guitar sounds really good, but the volume knob seems to be a bit too close to the humbucker. I have had the problem with my Ibanez, but I got used to it. I think I have to try one.
There needs to be a Kahler/Floyd hybrid. Low to the body, Kahler has that locking nut for hard tail or string change, right? That if so, but both up and down motions of the Floyd.
Thanks a lot. I watched this video on Monday. It's now Thursday. I've been listening to nothing but Alice in Chains all week at work. I'm not mad, just bragging. 🤘
Random curious question. How do people get along with no tone pot? I've gotten to the point where I have to actively manage my tone unless I want to change my amp settings every guitar. But there are a couple guitars I've always wanted (like the Rampage and the EBMM Axis w/Eddie specs) but I'm afraid, haha.
Not to sound condescending but you just plug it in and play lol. I haven't had a guitar with a tone knob in decades but when I switched, I realized a lot of what I used a tone knob for could also be achieved by subtly adjusting the volume knob. Ymmv.
@@borafett3005 I just don't feel like that works on my LP with Burstbuckers. And in a mix I'm trying to balance out frequencies but still keep a certain bite that I lose by pulling volume down to compensate. I'm not saying you're wrong (far from it). I'm just saying maybe I've learned to use it and now it's kind of a crutch. Especially live when I'm switching to different types of guitars for different songs.
G&l listen all people want is a reissue of the original rampage Jc signature in whiskey and maybe a few other finish options with Seymour Duncan jb in the bridge and the proper kahler bridge … thats it yall are dropping the ball
This is the first time I’ve heard a guitar that I didn’t like the sound of. This also might be the first time I’ve heard Fluff use a clean tone. lol. Congratulations
Dope video Fluff. I'm not a fan of the G&L Rampage at all. Never have been. I played a few in the 3000s. They ripped and felt great to play, but it's the single pickup for me. It's a purely aesthetic thing. If someone digs the single bucker, I'd definitely recommend.
They should make a Kahler and Floyd Rose optional thing, then it will be considered an upgrade with those 24 frets. I won't even buy a guitar with less than 24 frets these days. The Alder body might be a downgrade for many however
I hope people realize a Kahler version is coming soon. There's a fair bit of alteration that needs to be done before that one gets released. People also need to understand the Floyd Rampage is the original concept - I don't recall if this is an old Leo design like the Espada, or if this is more recent. Regardless - this is the original concept and plan. The Kahler version has been in the works before the Floyd was released, but the engineering for the Floyd has been all worked out already. Things to consider: -The Kahler has a different footprint. Floyds to strats, Kahlers to Jazzmasters. -The Kahler is going to require the pickup position changed. Still has to be 25.5" scale, so adjustments are necessary. -The neck pocket is a different depth than the Floyd. -The Kahler is not being countersunk. This is so the the hardtail lock can be used. -G&L is a manufacturer and business - like Ford, 3M, or anyone else. They are just as susceptible to hurdles and technical problems far bigger entities encounter. I'm left with the impression that people who say "this isn't rocket science" don't understand how variations can have drastic alterations to a design. An F150s 5.0 and a Mustangs 5.0 might be the same base engine, but there are some key differences (for further examples, look at the 3.4 V6 in the Tundra and the 3.4 V6 in the Lexus LS500). Have some patience, this isn't artificial scarcity or a company not listening/considering what people really want. This is logistics, this has been planned and accounted for. It'll take some time to work things out. Things happen that can back things up.
My issue with this guitar is for the price, the back cavity is unnecessarily big. I know some might see this as nitpicking, but at $2300-2500, I feel they could have not taken what feels like a CNC template and applied it. I know the original was larger as well but I don't think quite as big. Why all this to house a volume pot? As far as the pickup, I will defend G&L and say their stock pickups are really underrated. Once again though, a case would have been nice at this price point. Another upside is G&L uses a real Floyd (not a 1500 or special) and the Sperzels are a nice touch (although if you're upgrading to 24 frets, why not locking tuners guys?). It's nice to see G&L are making some attempt to advertise now because they do make great guitars. They just need to burn all the Caribbean "Rosewood" and go back to using a species that actually looks like Rosewood. Luckily for this one, it's either ebony or maple.
Agree mostly with what you said but the locking tuners aren't necessary for a FR equipped guitar where you have the locking nut. Just adds unnecessary weight for the small benefit of faster string changes. Not worth it, but maybe it is to some people.
I wish they would just remake the original invader with the ssh config. I dont get why all these cool guitars coming out like the evh star only have 1 humbucker. I couldnt stand just having one pickup i always have liked changing the pickups, mixing them and all that.
Nothing but respect for Jerry Cantrell. He had spent a 4-figure sum for the white one before he was a full-time musician. That's determination. I could never nor would ever because this has only been an on and off hobby for me. That's why I prefer cheap and crappy guitars.
Honestly all these single pickup guitars look very similar to each other with their boring finishes and color palates. Take the logo off and it could be a Kramer, Jackson, ESP, Kiesel, Slick, maybe a BC Rich Gunslinger (if you squint)? Some guitar manufacturer needs to bring wild finishes, graphics and colors to this style of guitar.
@@raycestockton4225 They were pretty transparent about it the minute they announced it. Pretty sure they wanted to get their Floyd version out first because more than likely it will sell the better of the two.
I've never played a Kahler equipped guitar, but from the sounds of it, I wouldn't like it. I hate guitars where the strings sit very close to the body, probably due to all of the guitars I have with ABR-1's, and my offsets with pitched back necks for better break angle at the bridge. When I pick up a guitar with a recessed Floyd or something, I feel like the body of the guitar is getting in the way of my picking hand.
They didn’t do much to it at all and what they did was very wise. Building 1990’s guitars in 2024 just doesn’t make sense. Innovation is what keeps people interested. And with young players you gotta keep up with their demands if you want their business.
I couldn't get myself to buy a guitar with that minimalist style, especially at that price. It screams grunge to me. Looks like it needs a bunch of stickers plastered all over it. Cantrell is finally getting the recognition he deserves. It's just not for me.

It does sound great, and I'm happy G&L have brought it back but I think a good chunk of Rampage enthusiasts want a Cantrell spec'ed version.
Yes, exactly.
I love mine. 2018. Still has the Kahler system. Sounds & plays great. Honestly didn’t think G&L even made guitars anymore
