Hello all. I’ve had this grinder for over 5 years and love it. But the flapper seems to be the Achilles heel of the unit. Has any made a hack or has Mahlkonig devised a better system? For a while I experimented with a small metal screen, but went back to the silicon. I’ve never replaced the silicon flapper, I just clean it and put it back in. If there was some way to make this retain less grinds, I’d be interested to hear about it. Thanks!
Thanks for getting in touch. Im afraid this grinder is now discontinued. The silicone flapper was the newest update version upgraded from the metal version. We recommending changing the silicone flapper with a burr replacement.
@@MahlkoenigGrinders Thanks so much for getting back to me. A new set of burrs and a new silicon flapper are due to arrive tomorrow. Question, has anyone experimented with the rotation of that silicon flap? In other words, I think the maintenance diagrams show the "hourglass" openings at 3 and at 9 o'clock. Has anyone tried something different, or am I getting too OCD with this. My goal is to grind properly, with minimal retention. I imagine that this grinder was designed more so for a cafe, and retention issues are less important. I use it in my home, and pull maybe 10 shots a day using different coffees. I may end up selling this grinder (which I think is superior) and get the Niche - which suits my day to day needs a little better.
I have this grinder in my residence, and after 5 year of use, I can honestly say that the design of the flapper chute is extremely poor. Seriously, why didn't Mahlkonig design the set screw to be accessible from the top, so you don't have to disassemble the grinder so much for a task that should me so easy, and happens so frequently? I give the company an F, and regret the decision to buy this grinder for that reason alone.
