the movie was ok, the scene with the rat trying to kill her mother which she could only view via the computer screen was actually genius, i was more scared and shook because we had no idea what the mother was really seeing.
My biggest issue was that the mom said there were "rats" and the game showed only one big rat which makes it goofy (although the animations were creepy af, the shaking and panicked expression of the player) and when she went to examine the apartment you see that it must have been a big rat if it chewed a hole in the middle of the door. I guess it's best they left it to the imagination.
Nah, that was obviously the case of "we can't afford CGI creatures, so we're just gonna make the viewer can't see it and expect people to think it's scarier that way"
@@rekkou1880 Nope. What you're describing is exactly how horror works. "The imagination is more powerful than the visual." You leave it up to the imagination, because the viewer will think of what specifically terrifies them, turning the monster into a manifestation of the audience's fear. That's why all the best horror movies leave a lot hidden until the very end.
The thing I don't like in these movies is that the protagonist always has to consent to being involved, but everyone around them just gets screwed for shit completely out of their control.
I know! I don't understand that logic. It's as if the one person consenting to the game automatically consented for everyone else in their lives. Doesn't make sense.
Hi, just for clarification the mom wasnt watching a movie when we first see her. The ragged stuff animal she holds is like the ones from build a bear where you can record audio and then insert it into the bear/stuffed animal. The audio we hear is from the mom replaying that audio over and over.
My theory as to why Hal was allowed to stop playing and distribute the game instead is because he wasn't suffering. He seems happier after torturing his family, so the game wasn't getting any power from him.
Uuuuuuh…. What? No the game manipulates him into distributing it under threat of further harm to his family. Thought that was pretty obvious with the whole “continue game or make copies”. Why would exactly would he continue? The game pffered him the choice to end his own game and pass it to others or continue on his own. He made literally the ONLY logical decision…. Furthermore you see about 20 seconds of him “after torturing his family” (which he definitely didn’t do btw) so what makes you think he’s suddenly happier? Just bc he doesn’t have a beer in his hand the next time you see him? And even FURTHERMORE, he’s assuredly the one who created the game so it wouldn’t have any “power” if not for him. This is a terrible interpretation. It makes literally no sense.
@@richardtherichard26 But he's the only one who gets that option, and he certainly seems happier when we see him later in the movie after his wife and kid are terrified. I think it's round three that he gets the option too, which gives Hal enough time to know what's coming for one round and not suffer the way the game wanted. He went from never being in control in his life to finally having choices, even if they're bad ones. I don't think he necessarily enjoyed torturing his family, but I think having the game and being in control of his family's fate made him feel powerful, which is the exact opposite of what the game wants you to feel.
@@Ganymedia9 well so I just watched the rest of the vid and I think I’ve gained a bit of a better understanding, and your explanation does hold some weight however I think it’s important to note what Foundflix says @ 23:25. “It seems the game is more interested in spreading than anything else” the game doesn’t care about Hal in the long run. He wasn’t the dev but he was certainly a means to an end. The game used him to get distributed bc that’s it’s ultimate goal. Spreading its influence to the masses is more important than simply torturing this 1 ultimately inconsequential man.
the sequence involving the rat and her mother was actually so terrifying bc we didn't know what was happening. The movie was decent but that scene really stuck out to me
I enjoyed watching this movie because it was so fun and creative. But the ending felt extremely rushed and killed the vibe. I think it would've been better as a limited series.
I totally agree, I thought the same thing when I got to the ending with the convo with the developer. To me it would’ve been so much better to either leave receive the a phone call with him introducing himself as a cliffhanger tor a potential sequel or like you said, make it a limited series. I thought the premise and delivery of the story and levels were super creative and well-done. Had they done a limited series, they could’ve introduced the company as more than just 1 dev, making it into a sort of mystery revenge story uwith her taking down the developers/company in charge of the game. Whereby our “hero” tracks down those involved who used the game to benefit themselves at the expense of others and taking them out, destroying their copies of the game, which wou also improve her life. It’s a shame that they chose to go the rushed ending route instead, as this IP had some serious potential.
I think one of the big reason this movie flopped is because the levels were pretty uninspired and not really scary. The rat one was the only one that stuck out as being creative and interesting. The rest were pretty lame.

I don’t really see it as her killing her best friend. Also, her friend told her to do when she tried to stop. He knew he had to suffer for cheating, just like how he said in his game cheating cost you.

I need to watch it again to find holes in my theory, but I still really believe that it all might be a trick. That the game plays audio to make people hallucinate. The hallucination angle might work if it wasn't for the 'reality warping' aspects of the story, as well as the part where the "final boss" was playing in one room, and his family was arguing in another and the game being able to work its influence over any amount of distance. The audio thing could have worked if it was about subliminal messaging, but we never see the "player" actually involved in any of the "games", except as a passive observer (with the only interaction being the choice being made), so it's not like the story is about the player committing any of the "choices". :/

I hope it wasn’t just me who thought this, but I thought this would be like the Black Mirror: Bandersnatch movie, where you get to pick what happens and your choices can completely change the ending. I was pretty disappointed that it wasn’t like that. That would have been 🔥

I really liked the lead but didn’t love this movie. I did end up watching Incident in a Ghostland tonight after seeing you covered it last week and really enjoyed the movie! I was definitely way more invested than in Choose or Die.
The movie was ok at best for me. For being only about 90 minutes long there were a few too many storylines that just felt like they could have just been left out (for example Lance) to flesh out the story behind the actual curse. The premise was very promising, but it was barely scary at all. The whole Ricky plot line left me feeling disappointed because it had literally no emotional impact, just because I never really got too invested in it. I did love that they left all the gore to our imagination using sound instead of pictures, I believe that the scenes I pictured happening in my head were a lot more realistic than what they could have achieved with cgi. In the end it just left me wanting some lore and logic behind the curse instead of just throwing plot conveniences at us saying that things are just as they are because they are...
I had alot of fun with the film. The premise is really awesome and even if execution wasnt the best it was still very watchable. Def one of the better things ive seen recently.
Anyone else think the pregnant chick was going to suffer at some point? I hated how on the nose it was; the White guy complaining to the black chick "aRenT i AllOweD tO bE tHe GoOd GuY aNyMorE?!"

The VHS showing the curse being tested gave me a bit of an SCP vibe. Honestly the scariest part in my opinion was when the waitress was forced to eat pieces of glass, she was aware of what was happening, but she couldn't stop.

Asa's character dying doesn't matter, but it just doesn't make sense, -The cassette tape wasn't even important to the plot, also he could of just eat the tape,
The being "chosen one" is kinda pointless either the old dude or her would've died. It just takes on the deeper meaning because she's the main character of the story. If the old guy won, the game would've just sent another one, so the plot is pointless.
It boggles my mind how you were able to watch the whole movie. I usually am able to watch most gory movies but I had to stop after the bartender scene cause it was to messed up and weird.
@@themischief420 the waitress was being controlled by the game that the main protagonist was playing. She was forced to break glass and clean it up by eating it.

Tbh I thought the the big reveal would be that they are part of the Curser game and being played for the amusement of other players beyond the viewers comprehension. Hence why to me the whole movie felt dreamlike and disconnected from everything.
In the movie "Hackers" they illustrate recording a dial tone sequence on a tape, THEN playing the sequence to the payphone, by-passing the need for quarters. Apparently this used to be partially true as certain grids were run by computers that used the dial sequences to know who to call and how much to charge.
See that’s really confusing to me Instead of just having each button complete a circuit to count as a press they had the buttons play noises and then analyzed the noise to figure out where they were calling? What?

Then if they really wanted to go Netflix bandersnatch /maize runner with it they could have something else referring to the “real world” being in a tv show, like maybe a “the view chooses what happens” kind of approach like in Black mirror bandersnatch (or whatever it’s called)
Netflix I’ll be expecting a check
“Your family is safe… for now”
D-Duolingo? Is that you?
I really liked this movie and was kind of bummed so many others seemed to not enjoy it. The concept is really unique a bit on the nose at times but still a fun watch.
Yeah same!! I enjoyed it a lot and expected it to have a good reception. Come to find out most people seem to hate it or think it’s terrible :/
I genuinely don’t get why, it was really good and a cool unique idea
Good acting as well
Been a subscriber of this channel since the Krampus review. Keep it up! Always enjoy the explanations for things i don’t notice and your review.
Thank you for the pod casts as I enjoy watching your videos as well as listening. Now I can work and listen!!!
you do these reviews better than any i've seen on youtube, glad I subscribed.
I hope it wasn’t just me who thought this, but I thought this would be like the Black Mirror: Bandersnatch movie, where you get to pick what happens and your choices can completely change the ending. I was pretty disappointed that it wasn’t like that. That would have been 🔥
So did I and I was confused when it wasn’t like that.
The curse's choices are also pretty much like a Wishmaster or Leprechaun wish - someone gets hurt no matter what the choice is.
@ラテちゃん why are you replying to every comment 💀
I was not feeling the movie at first, bit it redeemed itself. I enjoyed it! I would like to see more movies like this
Lucky for you, there's a bunch of shitty movies with this shitty plot out there
Am I the only one who didn’t really like this movie? Idk just don’t find it compelling. Especially when they revived the guy (side character), and then just automatically killed him off again in the next scene, just find silly and his death had no impact. I literally don’t even remember any of the characters name lol
you’re amazing man. thanks for getting me through the pandemic
Ooooo do Stay Alive ending explained next :D since this is pretty relevant
I remember these old choose your adventure games....
Thanks for putting your videos on Spotify, I love listening to them while I do other things, so not having the actual video is no problem
We on spotify now, Hellz Yeah!! Good job guys, get to listen to you guys on my way to work now!
I love that this video is like 30% of the movie's length lol. It was a great watch, straight to the point and grabbed my attention
Oregon Trail was still harder. Poor Samantha dying from dysentery! The struggle was real! 😭
There’s actually a way to eat glass without harming oneself but it requires practice and the glass that the waitress was eating is too thick to eat imo
I'm glad you're on Spotify!
Someone told me to watch “the game of death” instead of this one and I was pleasantly surprised if anyone else is interested ☺️✌🏽it’s more of a horror comedy
Ahhhh nice Cinema Summary also just covered this last week! Love when that happens and seeing the difference in what y’all pick up 👏🏻
Hooray!! A new video from one of my favorite RUclips creator
Dang, I only ever hear of these cool movies from you! Most of everything you cover makes me think “I wish I could have seen this before watching his ending explained!!”
I like this format so much better than the Vlog format. IMHO
Please do Stay Alive!!! 2006 movie hidden gem you'll be surprised which studio put this slasher out
18:52 OMG it's General Sam!! I can't believe he found enough time between Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown to take an acting gig!
I feel like the date being 1984 might be a ode to George Orwell’s disopian book 1984 were the ppl lack freedom/control of their life kinda like the game has control over them
A foundflix podcast!!! My prayers have been answered 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I’ve been waiting for you to do this film, I couldn’t get through it
I personally really liked this one. Would love to see a sequel.
That guy kind of looks like Harrison Ford a little bit I thought it was him at a quick glance!
Perfect, another bad movie with a good premise I don't have to sit through!
I really liked the lead but didn’t love this movie. I did end up watching Incident in a Ghostland tonight after seeing you covered it last week and really enjoyed the movie! I was definitely way more invested than in Choose or Die.
Loved the premise, didn’t like the execution. I had a feeling you’d do a review though 😊
You say the mother is watching a video when introduced - it's actually a recording within the toy rabbit.
I just watched this movie and before I started I said.. I really hope they do a ending explained on this! ♥️ Awesome.
Why does netflix exclusive's main characters always so easy to hate. It's like they set up their horror movies where u want to protagonist to die .
There's just something charming about this movie, I can't quite figure out what, but I enjoyed it way more than I expected.
Excited that FoundFlix is on audio!!
Oh my gosh!!! A podcast!! I’m dying!!! Thank you!!!! ❤️❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️❤️❤️
Suddenly dawned on me choose or die has the same kind of plot to the fear street films
I had alot of fun with the film. The premise is really awesome and even if execution wasnt the best it was still very watchable. Def one of the better things ive seen recently.
Me too I think its a decent movie
Let's talk about the fact that this is Bruno from The Boy In the Striped Pajamas....he's all grown up now 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Love that you referenced Dexter at the end 🔥
I was presently surprised by this movie. Maybe it's that my expectations are very low for movies these days, but I enjoyed it overall.
You're on spotify now? I'm subscribed NOW - Love you FoundFlix thanks for all of the great content!
Yaaaaay I'm so glad ur reviewing this! Can't wait to watch
This movie is like Zork crossed with the Give Yourself Goosebumps series
Anyone else think the pregnant chick was going to suffer at some point?
I hated how on the nose it was; the White guy complaining to the black chick "aRenT i AllOweD tO bE tHe GoOd GuY aNyMorE?!"
How did the movie flop? People are just way too picky now. Can’t we just enjoy a movie without ppl picking it to fucking pieces??? I liked it because I don’t pick everyone little thing apart. Anyone else agree??
The VHS showing the curse being tested gave me a bit of an SCP vibe. Honestly the scariest part in my opinion was when the waitress was forced to eat pieces of glass, she was aware of what was happening, but she couldn't stop.
I don’t think I’ve ever commented, and I should have! I luv ur content. I never miss a video, and you have made me want to see a ton of movies I never even knew about. I’m an OG sub, sorry I never said thanks before. So there, if I die tonight, I said it. ❤️
i had no idea how much i liked FF comment section until it was disabled
the glass eating got me. now i wanna watch it.
EDIT: whoops. suddenly its boring after the diner scene. nvm then.
Have you seen the rat scene yet?
Asa's character dying doesn't matter, but it just doesn't make sense,
-The cassette tape wasn't even important to the plot, also he could of just eat the tape,
Love your videos man. They have gotten me way more Into horror movies that are actually deep and philosophical.
podcasts!! that’s awesome! I’ll definitely be listening on Spotify
laughed out loud when I saw Ozone Mastering Suite used as an audio decoder. love it. movies.
Let’s play “will found flix cover this bad Netflix movie” until the next video comes out
This movie was Actually a 3.5 out of 5 . A creative B- or C+ Movie and Extremely underrated and Highly recommended!
Thanks for Reviewing!
The being "chosen one" is kinda pointless either the old dude or her would've died. It just takes on the deeper meaning because she's the main character of the story. If the old guy won, the game would've just sent another one, so the plot is pointless.
Loved the little jab of Hal not getting to be the "hero" anymore.
It boggles my mind how you were able to watch the whole movie. I usually am able to watch most gory movies but I had to stop after the bartender scene cause it was to messed up and weird.
which scene was that?
@@themischief420 the waitress was being controlled by the game that the main protagonist was playing. She was forced to break glass and clean it up by eating it.
I love how the command prompt was on Kismet's logo.
I agree. It shouldn't have gotten such a bad rating 😅 I thoroughly enjoyed it
6:46 The cake is a lie, the cake is Always a Lie! 😂😂😂💯
Thank you for your consistently entertaining content. You’ve been a part of my daily routine for years. Keep up the awesome work!
Choose or die
That’s what my mom says about dinner
Had some interesting concepts. But failed to really grasp me.
See that’s really confusing to me
Instead of just having each button complete a circuit to count as a press they had the buttons play noises and then analyzed the noise to figure out where they were calling? What?
I think I spotted you at texas frightmare on Saturday!!
22:29 Damn, almost thought Hal was Sharlto Copley there for a second...
Usually I don’t have a problem with horror but when it got to the restaurant scene I couldn’t stomach it.
Finding an evil retro game in a random yard sale is the most creepy pasta shit
"It may seem random now but will make sense later on" I named one of my homebrew tabletop gods Kismet I know what it means and where this is going IMMEDIETLY 😂
Glad you got the comments up and running again. Also, please do Inner Senses starring Leslie Cheung. I remember watching it as a child and it scaring the crap out of me. There are also rumors the movie predicted Cheung's untimely passing.
