As an Indonesian myself, I'm proud that this movie is known internationally especially for this channel. It was like the movie that broke new ground for Indonesian horror movies standard, since then tons of horror movies in Indonesia tend to copied whatever Satan's Slaves did and failed miserably. The director, Joko Anwar is truly one of a kind in the Indonesian film industry, he's a saviour especially in the horror genre. His level is unprecedented compare to most Indonesian directors working today. Also for those who don't know, this is a remake of the classic 80s Indonesian horror of the same name. In terms of remakes, this is easily one of my favourites
This film is excellent, even if it is a remake of an Indonesian horror classic! Of course now I have to go watch the original film 😁 Any reccomendations for more Indonesian films I should watch?
Every once in a while, I find myself watching these, and still get scared from the movies, even though it’s just you explaining them. Well done to the movie makers.

Including the fact he also made 2 superhero movies, Gundala and Sri Asih, which, despite their flaws, are much better than most of the recent MCU installments.
I don't know what sign language they are using (probs the Indonesian version), but the sign that Ian uses at 22:21 when he is being pulled away looks exactly like ASL "I love you". Which is heartbreaking if that is ASL they're using, because imagine being 7 years old thinking you're going to die via demon-ghost and the last thing you want to say to your big brother is that you love him. Oof.
As soon as you said Joko Anwar directed it I knew I was in for some good shit! The man is on another level, not just in Indonesian horror, but horror in general! One day I'm gonna sit and do a marathon of all of his movies, but until then I greatly enjoy your summaries and explanations! Can't wait for the next one!
4:51 the same prayer chants you're talking about after Marni's funeral is a common prayer we use to praise God that says "There's no god other than Allah". May sound boring to non-informed people, HOWEVER, this prayer is meant to show a huge irony for this grieving family since the parents intermingled with satan.
Right! Like yeah I know I want a large ramen beef bowl doesn't mean I going to be able to make it like a chef or have the motivation to do it that night after work 🤣
