This thought is still a jumbled mess in my head, but your comment is a good thesis for an argument in media literacy.
Christian movies have always struggled to be captivating since the resolution of every film is “believe in god” and other questionable morals. Christian media doesn’t even tackle its own past, typically the antagonist is a a demonized atheist or a caricature of a group conservative Christians hate.
What this movie shows is that you can have a film that deals with a spiritual conflict and grounds it in supernatural horror. So that conflict can work. We just watched the evidence that this frame work is entertaining. It doesn’t even have a resolution of “just believe in god”.

When it comes to Jewish lore, I've heard a few things about demons or "shaydim". There are really two camps when it comes to this stuff and I've been in close contact with both.
The main camp is the one that just doesn't really believe in demons and from what I can tell that is most Jews. This is where I find myself. I don't believe in demons and don't like the idea of them so when it comes to things that involve them I don't think they mean anything and I also don't wanna tempt fate just in case. Most rabbis also don't believe in them but acknowledge their belief by others and kinda blow it off. The thing about rabbis tho is they always seem to know more than they let on but that's them.
The next group is the more mystical type that believe in kaballah, Jewish mysticism, the shit Madonna was into. I grew up with friends that had direct ties to the Kaballah center in California and they say some weird stuff. To preffice, shaydim in mysticism are very specific. They are people like creatures with chicken feet, that's how you know they are demons is their feet. What they can do is mimic your body and take over your life essentially, not cool dudes. The big story about them that I think put em on the map was king Solomon got into some shit with a shaydim and they took over the kingdom and disguised as him for a while. Dude got his kingdom back but it was a whole thing.
What I've also heard about shaydim from rabbis is that you shouldn't mess with them and there are things to do to avoid them. From what I remember it's to not stand near a body of water alone at night and don't like say their names or something. Kaballah is weird and I like most yids don't follow the mysticism stuff. It's predicated on some weird rules like you have to have studied all the books of Moses (the old testament), other works by rabbis, be over 40 years old, and have a few kids so when you start you don't just GO INSANE.
I don't subscribe to these opinions but I don't mess with it. Don't have time for these chicken feet demons, I got other shit to do.
Just wanted to give info to those who might be curious, there's a lot of stuff when it comes to being Jewish and I've spent too much time in religious school to not at least talk about it on the Internet. Great vid btw as always.

I love that this demon was......well...a demon, it exploited the weak and there by exploited the empathy of the strong, dragging everyone down with them. It's a cruel and cunning thing and this was not a fight, it wasn't even a game, it was just straight up slaughter.

@@Gumunista Pazuzu was the Akkadian personification of the southwestern wind and king of the Lilu wind demons. Because of his inhuman and grotesque appearance, he was also used in white magic to scare off all kinds of unwanted guests. His main antagonist was Lamastu, the lion-headed demoness who preyed upon pregnant women and newborn children to devour. Although Pazuzu, as the personification of the southwestern wind, symbolized famine and drought, he was also primarily invoked to ward off Lamastu as the only thing she feared most.

Wow, thank you so much for this insightful video! I just finished watching "The Offering" and was completely baffled by the ending, but your explanation has cleared everything up. I never would have guessed that the protagonist's visions were a result of her being a medium and that the whole story was actually a supernatural battle between good and evil. It's amazing how much detail the filmmakers put into every aspect of the story and how everything ties together so perfectly. I'm definitely going to watch it again now that I have a better understanding of what's going on. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and analysis!

It makes it look like a priest's collar. Wondering if it's a reference to Judaism vs. Catholicism in it's thoughts on handling the topic of demons.

I mean, I'm pretty sure that the carvings were into the floor and wasn't just a painting or something. It would take a lot of time to take it off and probably have to destroy most of the floor area, so even if they tried the demon would have plenty of time to stop them
