VVR is notorious for overcharging on services and goods. Back in the day they would resale items left in the hiker box as well.

Smelling like McDonald’s. 😂 that should be the name of your PCT full-length documentary.

In '96 I did half the John Muir Trail southbound, leaving the trai near Muir Trail Ranch, and hiking to the end of Florence Lake to take the water taxi out that way. An aunt had given me a mosquito head net, which I stowed away in my pack, but thought I wasn't gonna need it. On the 2nd to last day on trail, we went from Pocket Meadow (below the south side of Silver Pass) to Upper Bear Creek Meadow. We encountered the worst mosquitos on trail at Upper Bear Creek Meadow, and for sanity's sake, I'm so glad I had it. The morning of the last day on trail, we had the toughest ford on Bear Creek, and this was in August when it was flowing pretty low. The channel was just pretty narrow, deep, and swift.

You are going to need to practice that Ric Flair “woo” 😂😂. Do the socks on top of your pack smell sweaty?

You're the 1st hiker I've seen mention the price of the Ferry or the price of food at VVR. Wow! Nothing like taking a platinum hike without the plantinum! AT seems cheap in comparison.

New subscriber here : the way you take videos of the trail is amazing. I know it’s more majestic in real life. Thank you for sharing.

Saving money by not taking the boat ride, means more money for pizza and beer. 🍺🍕🍺🍕🍺

The takeaway I have gotten from watching you thus far on this trail is that there is so much price gouging going on I think it’s horrible! People are charging way too much because they know they basically have got you. Not a fan. Glad you got some pizza anyway.

Fireball is your mischievous sprite 🧚‍♂️. And your Peter Pan off on once-in-a-lifetime adventure. And VVR pirates have captured with their cunning and robbing you blind . The scenery is
awesome . Be careful and safe!😅

Hiker Math: You spent $100, but you saved $40 by hiking, so you saved almost half of what you spent (don't check the math, haha)! Yeah, sometimes a wrong turn earns you an adventure and sometimes it's just a slog, either way you guys have got this handled.

Chap, I'm sorry to tell you that your so-called "Connected Footsteps" illusion is only a Pipe Dream. You should have taken the boat! Now THAT's an adventure worth having. I hope you're lucky, because I know another thru-hiker in 2022 who dreamed the same connected-footstep dream, and all it took was one wildfire in Oregon to dash her dream to bits. Just the same, "Hike Your Own Hike" is the real key to happiness, so you do you, but don't let it rob you of other experiences. BTW: I definitely love Fireball and her spunky spirit, so I hope she changes her mind and rejoins your tramily. Carry on, and I love your videos!

Given a mulligan, I have no doubt you'd take the ferry next time, especially after the hike back to the PCT.
For context on costs, VVR is deep in the High Sierra, and the barely maintained, sometimes single-lane road to get there takes 3+ hours from any wholesale supplier.

Hi there, perhaps a naiive question, to avoid perpetually wet feet would it be better to swap your hiking boots for the Tevas, then switch back after the crossing? This is not a gotcha question, I truly don't know. I assume it's just a pain to keep switching back and forth. The flip side is ur specialty insoles are getting wasted! Let us know so that we can all learn!
    Thanks for your videos!
    Paul

Some of the crossings are too swift for Tevas. Ned the full foot protection.
