For a site saw the Dewalt can be set up to give very accurate cuts in a workshop setting. Cut accuracy close to a heavy shop table saw can be achieved with some effort on setup. That said I have a Dewalt jigsaw which is an absolute pile of crap so anyone who just buys for a brand is crazy, this guy has the right idea, just get the best tool for you regardless of brand.

You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice ruclips.net/user/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

I have pretty much all dewalt. Mainly due to the fact that you tend to stick to one battery platform. Dewalt set the standard with the rack and pinion fence on their table saws almost 20 years ago. I have not found another brand of table saws that have liked as much. I also run the flexvolt miter saw and tablesaw. Love the versatility of being cordless. I also have a the festool track saw and domino. Love both of them.

I don't have time to check the fence for squareness with each cut. Such a thing I would just expect on a table saw. Only Dewalt understand this.

Scott- I've tried many Dewalt and owned a few Makita miter saws. After many years, I've settled on the 7-1/2" Makita Miter Saw. Its only 25 lbs and its so accurate. Its one of the older models (had really bad experiences with their newest cordless miter saws having faulty results when bevel cutting) and I think they just build it better somehow. It was 100% perfectly square and blade plumbness (bevel angle) was so easy to micro adjust and fine tune to perfectly 90 with the base. For framing, we pull out the 10", but most of the time, I find myself wanting to pull the 7-1/2" when doing any trim work.

Tried lots of brands over the years. I run mostly Makita cordless, festool corded. Festool drills are bulky and underpowered. (Except the little 10.8 is amazing especially with right angle attachment) Makita cordless I find lighter, smaller powerful. Dust extraction, tracksaw etc is festool. I am in UK so am in and working 95% indoors, flats mostly where need great dust extraction so festool works great for me. Battery platform is what ya got is what you buy bare tools to add to. Makita has great range for that. Things change though so this will no doubt in future. Running sustainers has made my work life so much more organized which makes such as massive difference for me.

  • @fishbiscuit2000

Scottish carpenter here. I chose the Makita battery platform, so almost all of my battery tools are Makita. Like you however, and for the same reasons, my mitre saw and my table saw are DeWalt. The thing I love about the DeWalt table saw is the rack and pinion fence adjustment and it's ability to swap the fence pins to the wider setting to cut wider materials. That rack and pinion adjustment is the most solid I've ever come across on a job site table saw. I'm kind of interested in their new battery operated version - but because I'm invested in Makita batteries I doubt I'll go for one - they do look pretty good, but I'm so used to buying the bare tool and using my existing batteries I'm not sure I want to spend several hundred pounds extra just for batteries. Different if I'd gone for DeWalt in the first place I reckon.

I switched from Dewalt to Makita when I went cordless and have not looked back. The prime reason I chose Makita was they have more of the specific tools I wanted cordless. As I’ve continued with them I find I usually prefer their ergonomics, they run smoother, and most importantly where it matters Makita usually seems to have the better accuracy.
The Dewalt miter was my biggest irritation. For really fine work, I could never calibrate it to be accurate at more than one angle at a time. The angle would even visibly skew off mid-cut, even through woods too soft for it to be the material causing blade deflection. Not bad enough to be a bother if I mostly did decks or framing where a little slop gets covered over by drywall, but for boxes with multiple complex angles or other “fine carpentry” type things it was frustrating and no way to fix. Had the same problem with both a 12” and a newer 10”.
Agree that Makita’s larger miters and table saws are large and hefty. Not a problem for me as I don’t move them out of my garage, but they aren’t good choices for job site mobility. I got the 12” slider and most recently the little 6.5” miter and couldn’t be happier. Very accurate, very smooth. Even the choice to get the Makita table saw despite most people preferring the Dewalt hasn’t come back to bite me yet...but that was a selection where I was definitely letting myself be a bit of a fanboy. Still it’s been a lot more accurate than I expected and I prefer the larger size since I don’t hardly have to move the thing. The fence has not been as awful to deal with as everyone makes it out to be but perhaps over time it will wear or something. My only gripe is the magnifier on the fence obscures which fraction of an inch you’re on especially as it gets dusty.
It’s weird to me Makita hasn’t come out with an awesome job site table saw. Usually when they go compact is when they shine. Not a tool I need but I would see it making waves if they came out with one especially cordless. Their 7.5” slider at only 30lbs seems like their take on a job site miter.

@@christophercrawford2736 In Australia and NZ and maybe other countries the Dewalt 20v system is sold as 18v and the 60v Flexvolt is 54v. Same tools and batteries just different labels. So as long as the 18v drill is the slide battery type it will work with a Flexvolt 54/60v battery

I use whatever tool brand I can afford and whatever tool brand can do the job I ask of it.
And I use a mix of brands, from DeWalt circular saw, thickness planer to a Bosch glide drop saw, Hitachi Nailguns, to AEG power tools... to even some older Worbrandsds but the AEG is only because I am kind of locked in with the batteries.
My bigger tools ie; tablesaw and bandsaw etc are toolshed and have had no issues what so ever.
So I don't by based on the brand I buy based on can it do what I want it to do...

I had that newer Makita drop saw, it was a thing of beauty, HOWEVER, I took it back and got a refund. There is a known issue where it won't true up from a full extension back in due to the dual rails. Nothing I could do with all the mods and tricks out there would true it up. EVen Makita couldn't help. Got the 12" Flexvolt DeWalt. Never looking back.

I honestly chose DeWalt over Makita and Milwaukee because my dad is a DeWalt guy. Not sure what it is, something about using the same brand of tools my dad and uncles love makes me feel great about using them. Also the black and yellow is beautiful.

I'm Festool and DeWalt. Festool have a few gaps that DeWalt fill perfectly like their tables saw and impact driver. I have the same tablesaw and with a good guality sharp blade it is an awesome saw, you can't beat that rack and pinion fence (unless you get a SkillSaw table saw that isn't avaliable in NZ).

I do like Dewalt table saws even tho the one I " had " , had to be replaced 3 times before i got refunded for the saw. Now i have the small Bosch 10" table saw but its maximum rip width is less than 19" .

I used Milwaukee cordless tools for roughly 10yrs from the 28v set and then 18v. Excellent tools.
About 18mths ago I switched to Makita and have absolutely loved all their tools. The circular saw and planer are excellent. The impact and drill drivers are also great tools.
All the leading brands have good, reliable and well made tools. It's just what suits you and your type of work.

I was looking at Milwaukee’s range recently as they have some really niche stuff that I would love to get ... then I look on eBay and see soooo many of them ‘for parts’ or ‘not working’ ... and think maybe that’s for a reason. Their packout system is fabulous - expensive but top quality.
I went with Makita as in my country there’s mainly 3 options: Makita / Dewalt / Bosch
Out of those, Makita has the widest tool offering available. And there is local repair centre available 10mins down the road. Although I import most of what I want as it’s far cheaper.

that deflection in the blade while cutting is because of your blade, I used to have that problem as well until I picked up a really high end blade. The thinner the blade, the worse it gets as soon as the blade is used a bit.

Yes, I would agree, for mitre saws I have a Bosch blue line and that thing is incredible. But for a table saw, the Dewalt is simply better. In terms of drills and drivers I am mostly happy with Ryobi, but their accessories are a bit cheap and flimsy. For a palm router again Ryobi do a pretty good one in their One+ line. For a lunchbox planer, I'm using a Triton and I swear by it.

The makita you show at 1:22 is very cumbersome to work with and move around. The fence doesn't move horizontal to add width when needed, they only pull out and clip onto the black bars you see on either side of the table. I used that exact one for a few months and the same problem kept coming up, it's no good for cutting crown or large profile mouldings. I've since gone back to my 10" dewalt and never looked back. Not to say I'm bias to dewalt at all,. I have a variety of brands based on the application. Cheers

I got one of the new style Makita 10 inch corded saws, LS1019L. So far so good, it’s action is silky smooth and it’s really quiet.

I did a lot of homework on the net and the 745 came up with great reviews.
I'm only a hobbyist but I just love both of those machines.
Other than that I've gone Ryobi as it's not like I'm punishing them every day and with a 6 year replacement guarantee I figure they'll do what I need.
I've still got some remnant Ozito stuff but am Gumtree-ing it away gradually.
It was good to start with but kinda sucky and pretty easy to outgrow.
But for a one-off job where you just need something that will do a basic job or that you use once in a blue moon and don't want to shell out big bucks for it can be a good choice.

I’m a makita man too, but seriously considering investing in dewalt 54v platform. The cut off grinder and track saw look top notch.
The chop saw looks good too.... although I do like the look of the new Makita one with forward facing rails.
Would be nice if one company did a small 18v chop saw for doing architrave, skirting. Pelmet and cornice.
I don’t use chop saws for framing anymore. My 18v skill saw and a roofing square does the job and cuts in situ.
My chop saw barely gets used anymore..... I’ve been doing allot of loft conversions... mainly framing.

The festival is kind of a joke for durability issues. Festivals great in a shop, what for that price point I would be worried about rain and damage and all the rest of it but happen on job sites. When I was undecided in buying a Bosch 10XC or a Dewalt DWE9412, the rack and pinion fence on the Dewalt sealed the deal. As far as I know this in the only fence system in this price point that guarantees parallelism with the blade.
The Bosch however is a fine machine, featuring soft start and a sliding mitre. But in the end, I just get the impression the Dewalt is built better. You can also add an aftermarket soft start and you can just replace the mitre gauge with a better one from Banggood, so the Dewalt still wins hands down. Lastly much, much better dust extraction.
